corgi I am feeling your pain - and I don't know how you cope night after night.

dd1 woke up nearly every half hour last night. DH found me asleep on the floor of her bedroom under a cot blanket at 1am!!!

She had such a lovely busy day running around, and not having proper naps (we were visiting her cousins) and I have a little girl who needs will not sleep when she is overtired - ugh!

And Rosie woke at 9pm with a sore windy tummy (which woke dd1). Took 15 mnins of back rubbing/patting to get the burp up.

I tried gripe water - but she was outraged by the taste - though it did seem to work. May go for Inafcol again as it seems more palatable!

FOUR teeth law - wow! Still nothing for Rosie - but she has become quite skilled at manoevering herself in my arms and grabbing my hand to chew my fingers!

loli hope the scan goes well.

Corgi I was thinking in the middle of the night about Rhys not sleeping well (as I was not sleeping either thanks to a snoring DH and a snotty noisy HHB) I wonder if he will be one of those babies that starts to sleep when he is on his front? I know it's not recommended and I wonder what the HV would say, and also I don't know how well Rhys is rolling now, usually it's ok if they are rolling as they can choose their own position. It's just a thought and might be something to look forward to!

So I have now got cold that the whole Slick household has had, although, I have to say, touch wood, it doesn't seem to be too bad yet.

Re: the maths Corgi I found out that everyone in the class' parents had complained about the amount of homework last week and seemingly the teacher said, "Oh well at least I know where you all are with it..." But they were just back after the summer holidays so it was a bit excessive to throw them in the deep end in my opinion. Still, I was glad to hear it wasn't just my DD so hopefully less this week.

We are meant to start decorating DD1's room at the end of this week and doing prep for the bathroom getting done in Oct. Then there's the living room. Plus DD2's b-day in 12 days. Then christmas.... - sorry I just said the 'C' word. I'll get a grip.

Slickbird · 31/08/2009 14:37

Oooh, meant to say, we were all talking about getting fit a wee while ago, and I was told by my back specialist to just get out walking every day when DH gets back even if it's just for 10 mins. I have to say, what a difference! I've been out every day last week, usually for 20 mins to half an hour, and not only has it helped my back, my mood, I have also started to shift weight, most notably on my stomach. Brisk walking that is. But also it is a good excuse to get a break from everyone and clear your head. Wonder if anyone else fancies trying it and telling their partners it's for medicinal reasons! My back specialist had pointed out how hard it can be at this stage with kids to get to a gym or swimming, whereas walking is easy peasy. And he's right.
I hope I keep it up.

meep · 31/08/2009 16:01

slick I noticed a difference round my tummy just from walking to and from nursery with dd1 (and Rosie in sling) - so I've been doing the walking but alas not on my own!

Right - need your thoughts ladies.

Rosie seems to be having tummy soreness and perhaps trapped wind. Last night she woke up after 2 hrs sleep - immediately did a really had sounding burp then took a further 15mins to coax another out of her. Happily downed a bottle afterwards and then slept all night.

Just tried to give her her 3pm feed - took most then started writhing about and crying if I made to give her more. Had done 2 big burps. So tried the gripe water again - kand she threw up spectacularly all over me (I smell lovely!)

She's now on her mat chatting away to herself quite happily!

She has been doing little curdled cheese burps quite some time after each feed.

Any thoughts?

I am not giving any more gripe water as I reckon that made her throw up!

Are you bf or ff.

I've just changed ds to hipp organic no2 and Robbie been doing this, rather then when he was on the 1st from birth one when he throw up milk straight away.

I use infracol when needed.

meep · 31/08/2009 16:43

ff - sma gold - no problems until now. Only change is that I have gone up a bottle teat size?

aaagggh - big upchuck in moses basket - off to rescue..........

OP posts:
lizziemun · 31/08/2009 18:23

Can't help then. I just assumed it because is changed milk. If it any help Robbie throwing up a lot less now.

Good luck with the clean up .

meep · 31/08/2009 18:57

all clean - then very hungry - half a bottle - huge vom - now fast asleep. I suspect it may be a bug. Any bets on how many days/hours it is before the toddler/mummy/daddy/FIL get it too - ugh

thanks lizzie

jollyjoanne · 31/08/2009 20:29

Urggh Meep doesn't sound nice, hope the rest of the family manage to avoid the tummy bug, I mean the LOs have much more sensitive tummys than us so it is possible. I have such a phobia of sick I would hate that.

Corgi I have my fingers crossed for you that Rhys is going to have a good night tonight and you'll get a good few hours of kip. I am useless if I don't get 8hrs! I get soooooo grumpy and clumsy.

Slick I have been out walking with Mae in the buggy as often as the weather will allow and it is the only reason I am not a size 18 (which is what I needed after giving birth). Problem is I am back to work next week so I am not sure when I am going to fit in the walking.

Loli good luck for your scan.

Emma hope you get the results you want tomorrow.

Right got to go Mae is getting very fidgety.

meep · 01/09/2009 09:09

the vomit continues......she threw up everything in her tummy last night then slept until 7am. Cried for food, drank a bottle, then threw up again - ugh.

Waiting to hear from GP about rehydration schets etc

Poor wee thing

But she is chirpy when she is not expelling the contents of her stomach!

OP posts:
meep · 01/09/2009 09:57

quick non-vomit related question - what tog duvet for a 2yo?

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 01/09/2009 10:02

Poor Rosie Meep. Hope she's over it soon and the rest of you don't get it.

Poor Corgi Corgi - sounds terrible on the sleep front. I hope you're coping at work and hope things improve soon.

Welcome back everyone who's been away - Emma, hope you get the result you want today, sorry you've had a tough 6 months. Ellie - pleased things are going better wiht you and DH.

slick - I so agree re exercise helping mentally. It did me so much good before getting pregnant with L when we had had a long struggle ttc. And, I'm still keeping my running up this time and its helping too combat the tiredness and ensuing mental issues which come with that ! It gives me 30 minutes of 'me' time and switch off time which is fab.

Right I have some shocking news .... (nope not up the duff, that would require notifying the vatican) but L slept from 7.30 last night to 6 this morning . She woke and grumbled a bit at 4 but by the time I'd got round to getting up she'd gone back to sleep again. What's changed here ? L is now on 3 meals a day and more formula than breast. So am guessing she's just been hungry. Of course, it might also be a freak night and it'll back to the same old shenanigans tonight but fingers crossed.

Wheelybug · 01/09/2009 10:04

Meep - when dd1 went into a bed at 2 she had an ikea 4 tog which she seemed fine with but that was probably spring time. The winter just gone I did get her a 12 tog as it was so cold but she was almost 4.

laumiere · 01/09/2009 10:37

Well everyone who envied me the easy sleeping baby, it looks like the party's over!

G's woke at 3 am for the past 2 nights and last night did 2 and 4 am before I got the boys up at 6. It's odd because he gets an 11pm feed and was fine to go 12 hours before! I'm hoping it's a growth spurt, DH says he can remember DS1 doing the same thing.

Work emailed and said I can go back earlier but need to give them 2 months notice, so I have to decide TODAY if I want to go back in Nov . I'm thinking it might be for the best, for all my wishing I didn't have to leave G, it'll get DH off night shifts and help us to start having a life as a couple again. Waiting for DH to wake up to confirm.

Slickbird · 01/09/2009 10:44

Meep Hope Rosie feels better soon. I thought to start with that she was maybe guzzling it quickly if she was hungry and sometimes that can make them bring it all back, but it does sound a bit like a bug. Let us know what the GP says. Have you tried a little cooled boiled water? That can help.

Useless on the tog front I'm afraid. I've no idea.

Wheely Hurrayyy for the good night's sleep! Hopefully with the increase in food the nights will become longer and longer! (In the good way).

Emma Thinking of you.

Jolly Are you going back part time? Have you decided to go for the other position? Is there any way you could go in the evening for a wee walk? (All these questions!)

Well I was up from 4.30 til 6am with HHB this morning as his cold had woken him up (and mine was bothering me too), tried to fob him off with water but he had to have 8oz NOW!! Still, he ate tons yesterday so I think he is having a(nother) growth spurt. Maybe he's 'feeding his cold'. He has tho just really started rolling on to his front when he's going to sleep or has woken up, which is bothering me a little as I'm not convinced he can lay his head to the side that well yet. Although he can hold his head up well, he does get tired as, er..he's got quite a large head - it's the cheeks! - bless 'im. I called the HV this morning and she said that as he's nearly 6months I can probably start training to sleep on his side, esp for the flat head business, but it's still recommended that they are on their back. Until obviously he just does as he pleases. Oh well, will watch this space.

Slickbird · 01/09/2009 10:47

Laum cross posts.

Will that be 8 months you've been off? Had you planned to take a year?

It must be difficult to make that decision and it must be even harder having your DH on night shifts. I know it would place a hell of a strain on us. Hope it works out for you.

laumiere · 01/09/2009 11:31

slick I went on leave from 1 Jan and was planning on a year, but looks like it won't happen now. It's a shame, I'm loving being home with the boys (most of the time!)

meep · 01/09/2009 11:45

lau I'm the same - was hoping to take 9 months - but going back after 7 months - 'tis rubbish but the mortgage needs to be paid.

I gave my 2 months notice a while ago - and am going back at the start of November - boo.

slick I alwaus get hungry when I have a cold - given teh weight I have to shift I sometimes wish I was one of those poeple who doesn't want to eat when ill. Saying that if I catch Rosie's vomit bug then that might work!!

Does HHB roll in his grobag?

Keep your fingers crossed ladies - Rosie just had 100mls milk (wanted more but I wouldn't let her - small amounts and often said the GP) and hasn't chucked any back up. Hopefully she is over the worst. The only good thing about a poorly baby is that they cuddle into you and sleep - but I woudl much rather she was her normal wriggly nosey self.

GP has prescribed some rehydration schets - okay to give to a 5mo - so at least I'll have something if she doesn't improve. Just hoping for a big wet nappy after this sleep.

Hooray to L sleeping through wheely. Even one good nights sleep makes a huge amount of difference to my general crankiness!

Where to start...

Corgi So sorry for the bad nights, and also going back to work Hope it goes smoothly.

Emma Good luck today. Hope you get the news you want

Law I am sooooo with you on the bitten nips. It's enough to make you cry isn't it. Must admit, I'm not sure what I'll do when A gets her top teeth. Grin and bear it until she's one, hopefully.

Meep I hope the sick bug goes quickly and doesn't spread. Horrible.

Hello everyone else and sorry if I've missed anything!

Quick question. Is there a growth spurt at around end of 4 months beginning of 5? Amy is wanting the boob soooooo much at the mo. I am trying so hard to not properly start weaning until 6 months, which is officially 5 weeks away still. She did eat some mushed up banana from one I was eating. She ate it from my finger and seemed to really like it... if we do get through another 5 weeks I'll be surprised. Is anyone else waiting until 6 months, or has everyone else made a start now?

jollyjoanne · 01/09/2009 12:54

Well Mae is at nursery so me and daddy are enjoying some piece and quiet, although actually it has been of a form filling day, we've done the form for the estate agent so we can put the house on the market, the tax credits form, and now thinking about looking at how much a new (old /second hand) car would cost.

Still not heard from work although today is supposed to have been the day when I decided, so I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am back in work next week so it'll probably all come to a head then. I am working four days a week so sort of part time. I could walk in the evening but we don't live in great area (the mnain reason while we are looking to move), so I'm not too keen on going on my own.

I wish I was able to take a whole year off, so I have lots of sympathy for those of you who are returning to work as well.

Mae definitely had a couple of growth spurts around 4/5 months. Which was why we decided to move on to food, which did seem to help for us.

laumiere · 01/09/2009 14:34

grinning G had a HUGE growth spurt at 4/5 mo, went back to nursing every hour for a week , I lost about 4lb!

meep Think I will be going back, the finances make it worthwhile and it means DH has some time to get used to being a human and not a vampire, and to job search (he's got no chance in his current job, he's either asleep or at work and most of the sites are blocked, unsurprisingly)... and ooh, he won't be working on Xmas Eve and Xmas Day, so we can actually have a family Christmas!!! Starting to see some benefits here!

On the plus side since I'm a total control freak over finances and clawed masses of my mat pay at the start to cover the lean months of Nov-Jan, we'll have a nice little rainy day fund. I may even take DH on a honeymoon at last! (Never really had one as we had a 3mo old DS1, had our honeymoon in SW Wales with the ILs!)

MerryMarigold · 01/09/2009 16:59

Hi. Just crashing your thread as I'm giving away a couple of high chair 'cushions' (plastic) that my twins have grown out of. They go with the Antilop high chair from Ikea, so if anyone has or is planning to get this chair, your welcome to them. Email ellena underscore norkett at yahoo dot co dot uk. Ta.

Slickbird · 01/09/2009 20:36

Grinning Yep, all of mine had growth spurts at this stage which is why I started them all on food around this stage. It def helped us. But I can understand why some want to leave it longer.

I was also wondering how your friends are, the one's that got married recently?

Meep Do you know, I tried putting him back in his grow back after my post this morning, cos it had been in the wash, and when I went through he was on his front, head up, happy as larry. So yes, he can turn in it! Bit nervous about tonight as I'm not sure DH will hear him if he turns over as he just tends to grunt a lot. (HHB not DH. Although now I mention it...)

Still, have ordered a sleep curve mattress which is shaped to accommodate a baby's head and help resolve the problem so hopefully that will be here tomorrow and do the trick.

Just been for my 40 min walk tonight, but with the cold, I feel a bit icky. Am off for an early night.

Sleepy vibes to all.

meep · 01/09/2009 20:55

night night slick

Well all this talk of rolling and little Rosie wheeched herself over onto her tummy today - and me and dh missed it - so only FIL has witnesed this amazing spectacle (truly amazing given my non rolling dd1!).

So the wee soul must be feeling better and rejuvenated by finally keeping some milk down - so much that she was inspired to roll! Go Rosie!

Off to google 'sleep curve mattress' - am curious.
