GingerSarah - Your post yesterday really made me smile. I'm so pleased for you.
And I loved your post at 8.23 today, I agree with your sentiments entirely.

Nutty - You dirty stop out, i'm very jealous.

Minush - I understand your concern but i'm sure it's nothing to worry about. The same happened with DD1 and she is a perfectly healthy thriving 2 year old.

WFH - ouch

BB - Stupid bloody nurse, poor Kara.
I have two stones to lose also. I can't stop scoffing though.

Boff - Ow, how are you treating the abcess?
of vax.

Ju - Any boob cheese? You poor bugger.

BabyBolat · 01/06/2009 19:29

yum puzzle - have just eaten a spinach and feta cheese pancake and now do not feel so fresh after the boob cheese!!!

mumblemumhome4lunch · 01/06/2009 19:45

hi all,
apologies fro any typing errors but doing this left handrd while feeding Orson...........not brdause i like to muliti task whilst feeding but the ccomputer is next to ds1 and dd bedrooim and we are currently having a ws serious bedtime battyle. I hate beeing a screaming witch mummy but sometimes they just drive you to distraction. I've been in and read the riot act about 5 times now and they are now bed hopping. I think they may have realisded they are close toi winning this engagement as they have giuven up screaming and are merrily chatting and giggling away and just grinned at me when i went in last time [hair pulling emoticon].

At least orson doesn't seem to mind.

BoffinMum · 01/06/2009 19:57

Kali, might be wind, but I reckon he's just sleeping in the way newborns do. They have quite light sleeps with lots of dreams, and need to learn to settle themselves a bit after each sleep cycle, so they might snuffle and cry a little once every hour or so, but you don't really need to pick them up every time unless they are really howling. Of course, if you are dying to pick them up and cuddle them, you should do so, but just don't feel it's compulsory.

WFH I am so utterly of Orbit's sleeping. I would do anything for a decent night's kip.

TMI ... Puzzle, I squeezed it to get all the pus out, and then put antiseptic cream all over it. I think it might be getting a bit better.

Mumble, I feel for you. Can you not give them a bedtime gin to calm them down???

PuzzleRocks · 01/06/2009 20:37

Oh Schulte, poor DD, and you. How are you managing?

OP posts:
PuzzleRocks · 01/06/2009 20:43

Lulu - You know how we have to mirror each other in everything? Ellen did her first poo on the potty today. Well she did most of it in the shower first [gag] but she managed to get to the potty to finish.
It must be lovely beng home again.

BB - Sorry.

Mumble - Deep breaths, you are doing brilliantly.
[rubs Mumbles shoulders and squirts water in her mouth before the next round]

PuzzleRocks · 01/06/2009 20:44

Boff - Glad to hear it's improving.

frekkles · 01/06/2009 21:26

help! what do you do with a baby that suddenly wants to feed every hour or two and doesn't sleep more than 20 mins inbetween, and won't stop crying? will i ever sleep again?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/06/2009 21:45

oh frekkles you poor thing! sounds like a growth spurt coming on - the only thing to do is keep feeding if that's what they want.

Orbit has only just stopped screaming, he's been at it since about 7pm, if that's any consolation to anyone envious of my unbroken night last night. Boo.

Juwesm · 01/06/2009 22:20

No boob cheese Puzzle , just a spontaneous milk fountain! Phew. I wonder how to prevent the bloody blockages?

Frekkles, yup, I think it's just feed feed feed. Though I can recommend feeding in bed lying on your side, as you can doze off while they're going, watched over by a handy DP if necessary.

Boff - congrats on squeezing! I imagine it was very satisfying!

Welcome back Lulu!

Velcro baby here too. We've passed the magic 6-week mark now, so I'm wondering whether to make a concerted effort to encourage him to be more put-downable. Although, I am beginning to get the hang of the sling. The only problem is that he doesn't like being put down for the time it takes me to get the sling wrapped!

We're off for jabs next week. I wondered if I could get them to give the jabs while he's feeding. He had the heel-prick whilst feeding and barely flinched, so wondered if it might help to minimise distress? Though obv jabs are worse than heel-prick.

BoffinMum · 01/06/2009 22:33

Frekkles, you co-sleep, that's what you do. If you co-sleep your sleep cycles synch more effectively. Pop him on your chest if you like, and you may sleep quite nicely, all things considered. Just don't do it if you're stoned or pissed etc etc.

I have two free hands too!

I can type with left hand

I can type with my right hand

I can type with both hands!!

H has been asleep on DH for hours, which does not bode well for sleeping tonight! Just waiting for him to wake so that DH can also feed him some EBM, so that we can go to bed! Ah, well

Juwesm · 01/06/2009 23:04

I like the boob cheese one!

Morning all

Frekkles, I would recommend co-sleeping too - gosh aren't we rebellious!!! - I put K on my chest and he wakes up and boings himself along to my nips when he is ready and then dozes off again when he needs it, I barely wake up! Also, I know i'm not to push these things but have you tried a dummy or your finger - it may be that Harris just wants comfort rather than food - that's what K did and we give him a dummy sparingly to save my nips and stop him getting too full and then sicky / windy!

Juw, re jabs - I asked if I could feed K during and they said no but I could feed him to calm him before and after - yeah right - you ever tried taking a boob away from a stressed out child!

Yay for free handed women - K has fallen in love with one of my mums bed pillows and sleeps on that all the time so I am almost always free-handed! although he now hates his moses basket as he has to sleep on his back!

I like the boob cheese and dairy cow one!

I know K is going to be horrid today as he slept ALL day yesterday and ALL night last night - in fact we didn't leave the sofa as we all fell asleep together on one of them and then when I woke up it was 4 and just too much effort to lug everything upstairs for 2 hours so we all stayed put! Good job I am at my parents as I can let them enjoy the crying wide awake joy that it their grandson!

Nutty, I have room for a little one

Does anyone know the rules with babies and flying etc - do they get their own 20kg? what are the rules with prams, car seats and carry cots etc?

LuLuBai · 02/06/2009 07:37

Morning all!

Still trying to get the jist of what's been going on. Pubic hair dye, mail order husbands.... Love it. Why have I been away so long!?!

Appalled that Schulte is back in her jeans . I had to go to Gap last week and buy an outsize pair after bursting the seams on what were previously my fat jeans. Clothes shopping with two children both awake and howling their lungs out, large cubicle unavailable (in use by genuinely disabled person so couldn't justifiably kick up a strop about it) and kept having to plead with the assistant to bring me ever larger pairs of jeans until I got some I could actually do up. Grim.

And then it got all hot and I still have nothing to wear. Sigh. Think I will have to fashion some sort of toga out of bedsheets or something.

BB - You can get away with a lot when travelling with a baby. They don't get an actual baggage allocation in the hold. But you don't have to pay to take prams and you can get away with taking a pretty hefty nappy bag in addition to your usual hand luggage onto the plane. Also you can usually take your pram right up to the door of the plane so you don't have to carry the baby all around the airport with you (v. handy if your flight is really delayed as much as baby cuddling is good - when flight is 5 hours delayed you want to put them down occasionally!).

Oh and you can also take on a bottle of water and other liquids which would normally not be allowed, but you have to be prepared to taste them all. Now my DH doesn't actually mind a swig of formula but when I last travelled with DD on my own I was appalled to have to drink the stuff. Bleeeurgh!

My top flying tip with a small baby is to try and breastfeed throughout take off and landing. This may look tricky as they have to be strapped to your seat belt but is actually possible. And the swallowing motion helps prevent earache which small children are especially susceptible to.

So when are you off to Turkey BB. Has his passport come back? How ridiculous is his passport pic?

LuLuBai · 02/06/2009 07:46

Oh and Puzzle, thanks for asking. Sebastian is fab. Nice fat, cuddly, sleepy baby. Right now he is sound asleep. Completely different baby to his sister - aka the Duracell Bunny on Speed. She's trying to climb up on my shoulders as I type.

Yay for poos too. We haven't reliably got those going in the loo either. I gather DD landed one on her grandparents patio on Sunday when she visited them. He he he.

Right - I had better get in the shower. Have my 6 week check this morning. Aargh - haven't done my bikini line. Is this very bad?

Schulte · 02/06/2009 09:03

6 wk check here too. DD still sick but seems to be on the mend at last, touch wood. Had to camp in her bedroom for 2 nights but H was a star and slept 6 hour stretch so I feel more rested than I have in weeks!

BB re flying, you can put the car seat in the hold too at no extra cost. It's much easier with a baby than a toddler.

bronze · 02/06/2009 09:26

not got time to catch up
off for my six week check and Isaacs jabs
WIll have a bit to read when I get back. Yaya people are posting

frekkles · 02/06/2009 09:29

thanks for all your advice ladies. Happily I can report that Harris went to bed at 10, slept til 2! and again till 6! wow i feel so much better, who knew two 3 hour sleeps would be so rejeuvenating? i'm none the wiser as to what the last 24 hours before that were about though. maybe just a hungry grumpy day.

He is a very windy character though. I'm giving him infacol, and it has improved a bit, but he still looks uncomfortable all the time, like a little frog with his legs up to his chest and grunting and gurning. i'm drinking peppermint tea too and avoiding windy foods. Weird thing is though since i've had him i've had constant wing too, like never before in my life. I haven't changed my diet so i don't know what to think really.

Co sleeping eh? well harris sleeps in his amby hammock next to the bed, so he's within an arm's reach anyway, and when he wakes in the night i can bring him into bed and feed him lying down without rising. i just don't think i could sleep though if he was in bed with us, he grunts and wriggles all night and i'd also be scared of hurting him. He won't sleep on my chest either, really struggles to get comfy on me. i'm thinking my boobs get in the way.

and dummies, cooor well another can of worms.... everyone keeps suggesting one but i'm trying to wait till six weeks. I want to start trying expressing milk this week and then try him on a bottle when hes 5 weeks. thought maybe a dummy too would be too much confusion in the sucking stakes. but it's undeniable he's big on hand sucking, loves my little finger and has almost found his thumb on several occassions now. Och I dunno.

All abit of a minefield innit? too much conflicting advice! it's like being pregnant again. Atleast his bums fine now and his gunky eye is clearing up.
