Dog - def talk to a midwifery tutor. They may be able to help you with your existing qualifications. These things are not always cast in stone, I don't think. Maybe they are though so a tutor could help.

DH takes his GCSE maths on Thurdsday, for which he has done no work at all. Part of the long haul to perhaps primary teaching.

He'll coast it as long as he reminds himself about long division without calculator

Oooo I love a fight

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 22:05

Dog - see now that is why I sigh a littl esigh when someone says they want to be a midwife. It is a tough job, cos you want to do the best by people. But it is tough sometimes. It can be so depressing.

Add to that working Chrismas Day or the sheer technology we deal with, or the note keeping required at legal standards at all times, and it's a very big and complex role.

Sigh. But it's ace too

stripeywoollenhat · 17/05/2009 22:06

dog, sure you would make a great midwife

sigh - as in I wouldn't want it to make anyone miserable who didn't know what they were taking on. Training has fairly high fall out rates and the job has fairly high fall out rates too. It made me very very very miserable for the first 4 years or so but I am down with it now.
Hurrah!

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 22:07

WAs Moose thinking of it too? Or had started? Can't remember?

Agree you would be brill. Moose too.

Since 1997. Jesus

The difficulty I had was that I was trained to be very analytical, forward thinking and so on. But I work for the NHS, so I was trained for a job I wasn't going to do iyswim? Mine was a very forward thinking degree.

The job was way more technical, scientific, management-based and demanding than I realised or was taught. Plus I struggled with the responsibility too.

Am ok now though, but I never sleep before shifts on delivery suite. Ever.

but yes, of course, you should do it. For sure. I have learnt that if I think I can change the world for all birthing women I will go mad, I can only help out the one in front of me.

Too scared and nervous! Adrenaline and what have you.

Love the other thread - in a warped 'I know I'm right adn there is no killer line coming to prove me wrong' way .

I really want a cup of tea. I have a sore thoat. But I can't because of Hatts. Now that is right and proper but all the same I really want one. Damnit.

Soya milk in tea is too bleurgh. Tasts like someone put baked beans in mi cuppa! Have tried all other milks [except my own] and it's no good. You can't mimick a nice cuppa.

stripeywoollenhat · 17/05/2009 23:27

i think the light soya milk isn't too bad in tea. but i would drink black tea rather than none.

off to bed, where i will have just fallen asleep when the small girl decides that she's peckish... night, all

Night stripey.

sparkleandshine · 18/05/2009 07:34

Morning all!

Dog - I think being a midwife would be wonderful...

tree - try making black tea or green tea without mild (just make it weaker than normal) also nice with a squeeze of lemon.

rray - an extra pump!! I'd buy a double one if I were you!

rrrayray · 18/05/2009 08:54

whistle stop (again)

Think i have super child. Was prepared for super strong legs as shes always had strong ones... and her daddy walked at 8 months... But...

Esme can now STAND up if she holds my hands?! WHAT? she did it about 2 days ago and i thought it was a one off, but she keeps yanking herself up holding onto me, and standing quite happily.

Freaky Child!!! Anyone else had any experiences of this? Where has my little snuggly baby gone? She'll be running off soon....Boo Hiss!!!!

Will have to snap photos when her Daddy gets home!!!!

sparkleandshine · 18/05/2009 09:13

hi rray - my LO is doing the same! be prepared for early crawling etc!!!

I had the same with DS1 - as soon as he could sit up (which as I recall was roughly 4 months) he moved on really quickly within a few weeks to standing in his cot holding the bars because his legs were so strong, so we went from cot in the top position to the bottom

elkiedee · 18/05/2009 09:27

Moose and Stripey, I'm even older than both of you, I will be 40 at the end of next month, gulp!

I love Christy Moore too. I also like a lot of music that is even older than me, but that was the case from when I was 14 or so.

Pat, dp and I went to the first Wychwood Festival, I'd love to go to another (Wychwood or something else) but cost and inability to drive are a bit of a problem.

rrrayray · 18/05/2009 09:36

Sparkle She is ALMOST Sitting up... again just needs my hands to stop her tipping slightly forward!!! When i saw my HV last week she said to get stair gates etc.... i thought she was joking, but she is obviously About to be off... Eeeek! Her Daddy walked at 8 months, but i walked at 18!!!! (lazy cow!!!) So i wasn't sure which way she'd go!

Dog Good luck to you furthering your education. MY goodness uni was hard enough without a brood of children in Tow. Massive hat off to you!

missj did you express? have you one expresser, or a double one? i ended up buying a second one.... Worked a dream. Felt even MORE like a milking cow... but have a REAL stash in the freezer now! :-D

Tree Really feeling for you with the no diary stuff! Although... Tea... Blurgh... don't understand people liking that stuff! Yuck!!!

Afraid no time to go further back that this page...Maybe later!

have a nice day all xxx

elkiedee · 18/05/2009 09:50

Oh, and moose, my brother's fiancee is a great aunt at 26!

PatTheHammer · 18/05/2009 10:04

ray- my LO's could stand up for fairly long periods of time, just holding hands, at about 5 weeks old. I think its just a sign of very strong leg muscles and good weight distribution. What they actually need for independent sitting and standing is to develop the balance centres in the brain. With DD this was just before 5 months. Zach can sit unaided for a few seconds before flinging himself backwards. It may seem sudden but don't worry she won't crawl overnight, they take a few weeks to get used to it so you do have some warning. My DD crawled at 6 months but I don't think she ever really liked it so she was up and cruising round the furniture at 7mths. She didn't walk unaided til 9mths though, as it takes a lot of confidence no matter how strong your legs are!

I could be wrong though, Esme could be the worlds first child to walk at 5 months!!! You never know!

Tree on the tea front I usually drink peppermint as I don't like milk very much. However I have recently been drinking Chamomile and I swear it has a relaxing effect on Zach.

Dog good luck, whatever you decide to do. I'm sure you will make an excellent midwife. If you need any online tutoring to help do your science a-levels then just give me (or Lenni I'm sure) a shout!

Oh, had a look at that other thread mentioned above, I can't believe how rude people are to each other sometimes! Lots more rucks seem to happen on the weaning thread too where I lurked the other day, too scared to post! Why are some people so bothered about what other people (who they don't even know!) feed their kids and when. Some people offer very good advice too and then just get accused of being smug! It's all good fun i'm sure

juleswastink · 18/05/2009 10:34

hi

we had all sat to ourselves was the meal and cinema.

regarding chickenpox all spots have to be scabs before you can take them out!!

midwife as a career sounds good.

bracken is 4 months today. when u have her on your lap she really leans forward and sits up. on her change table she is very strong pushing herself up and back and nearly off the end, on her moulded bath seat she kicks and wiggles so much gets me soakes and nearly falls off it.
she pushes up on legs when held.she is very strong. dd1 was the opposite and very late with all developmental stage.

dd1 - sat @ 9 months - very small for age, hated sitting . rolled everywhere
walked @ 15.5 months.
first teeth @ 9 months
crawled @ 11 months.

think that bracken will be earlier as chubby and stronger. will be weaning her from 11 am today wish me luck here comesthe baby rice.

pics of brackens room on fb.
