VG yes we have a carseat bag which is waterproof and rip proof, but it's quite large so it fits extra stuff in. When we went HKG-CNS on Cathay P they gave us a pack with 3 nappies, change mat baby lotion, barrier cream etc but no formula. Not all airlines do - mine has spare baby food jars and nappies etc, but they are not automatically handed out like CX do, however for the toddlers they all get a backpack with play stuff and a hat etc on certain flights - ie the disneyland Orlando flight

oooops slight LadyT there....

LadyThompson · 07/06/2009 13:01

When I say sling I am really talking about the Babasling (which is a sort of a hammock type thing that you tie to you) which I did try a few times in the early days but DD always seemed squashed and hated it. I know some people swear by these and Effie is the Sling Guru, but some babies don't take to them and mine was one of 'em, so it was a waste of forty quid for me! By contrast, the Bjorn carrier (which someone gave me) was terrific. DD used to sleep in that in the old days (though I used to fret about her neck) and I know she would adore it now but I just find her too heavy!

She will sleep in the carseat, pushchair, or anywhere flat. I am grateful for this as it means we don't always have to be home for naps.

Right, off to pack...

daisydora · 07/06/2009 13:19

Hello All,

Had a nightmare this morning - got to church after a very clunky journey to discover we had a flat tyre! Thankfully on of the congregation who's a copper put the spare on for me in about 5 minutes. But no tyre places open near us on Sundays, so we are housebound as DH is at work in our other car. DD is miffed as we were off to see my GP's which always means lots of treats for her. Plus DS only ever sleeps in the car and was counting on the journey giving him a good nap. Oh well, I'll have to push the pram round the garden.

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2009 13:32

Lady do you still have the sling does it take older babies I would buy it off you as I want a simpler sling for round the house or while I'm cooking to kind of sling DS2 on my back as I've seem you can do with those over shoulder slings.

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2009 13:33

Sorry about housebound tyre dramas Daisy. Lovely day!

LadyThompson · 07/06/2009 13:38

I will check, Veggie. But you don't have to buy it, sweetie, you can have it. Sorry about the tyre, DaisyD!

tillyfernackerpants · 07/06/2009 14:30

Hi all, I wish I could keep up

ladyt I had the babasling as well & didn't think it was that comfortable for either me or ds2. He always screamed whenever I tried to put him in it!

daisy sorry about car trouble, but glad you're ok. Will dd be pacified with ice cream?!

summer glad you had a good time on your weekend in the end

I have the day to myself today, dh has taken the ds's to his parents. They've been away in America for a month so were keen to see the boys. I've just been tidying up & pureeing every fruit & vegetable in sight! Am now going to treat myself to lunch somewhere.

Hope everyone meeting up tonight has a nice time. Does anyone want to try & do another weekday meet? Unfortunately, I can only do Friday's if that's any good. Or maybe we could even do a weekend?

daisydora · 07/06/2009 14:56

DD now pacified with an ice lolly, and some Cbeebies. She was helping me in the garden but declared it freezing and flounced inside DS only managed a 40 minute nap, and is now cranky refusing to be put down as he is still tired! But I have a cauliflower to puree so he's gonna have to cope on his own for a bit

Bisou · 07/06/2009 15:05

Awh I'm so jealous you all get to meet up
We might be coming over next year though, so I might get to meet some of you then (HURRAH!)

Thanks for all the lovely warm return greetings, you gals warm my heart. I really did miss y'all and it's so nice to be back. Also because it's comforting to know from reading that when DS is waking in the night/grumpy/fussy-with-feeding/(insert-other-standard-baby-behaviour-here), it's completely normal and he's not 'broken' IFKWIM

LadyT I'm involved in 5 operas this season (!) but at the moment I'm cramming for Fidelio, by Beethoven. Nice music, and it should be really good as it's a nice cast and creative team. Not looking forward to being at rehearsal all day for weeks on end though...

pmk - I didn't realise you'd come to OZ! Pity you were up only up north, next time come to Sydders!! And regards the sleeping thing, yep our DS just loves to sleep on his side at the moment and pretty much rolls over as soon as you put him down. Or complains till we turn him. Funny little moppet.

Veg I can't wait till you move here. We're south west though (Peakhurst), can't you move a little closer?

Is anyone doing 'elimination communication' with their DC? You know, when you anticipate their poos etc and hold them over the loo/potty. I'm tempted to start with J, it's so obvious when he's doin the deed, and it supposedly can result in toilet training much earlier than the norm.

Bisou · 07/06/2009 15:11

ps: Trace have just been reading back and am still laughing at "I found it in my bed and I put my finger in it".

tillyfernackerpants · 07/06/2009 15:49

bisou I had thought about that elimination communication with ds2, mainly because he has his poo at the same time every single day!

5 operas? Wow! Would love to see one, & would be lovely to meet you if you do come over next year!

daisy lol @ dd. Maybe I should send ds1 up to help you? He's definitely an outdoors boy!

modernlove · 07/06/2009 18:15

Hope everyone having a good weekend.
Bisou - lovely to hear from you again.

It's the big final tonight - am excited and love this episode when all the other contestants come back to help as well! Will be having a small amount of cheerfulness with it.

Weaning has been fun this weekend. Started on Friday evening and put pureed potato, sweet potato and carrot in front of DS who was inhis highchair. Then kept pre-loading the spoon and leaving him too it. He loved it and although made a few strange faces when he got food in his mouth, he kept going back for more. Last night did the same but tried courgette, potato and carrot. He seemed fascinated by the green courgette and was leaning over to eat it directly off the tray - his face was covered! Very messy though - glad we put newspaper down on the floor. His nappy this morning had bits of carrot in it! We did the same last night and at lunch time have been trying cucumber sticks and baby sweetcorn. Very cute. I'm reading the blw book so getting more ideas of what to try with him.

I like the sound of that elimination communication but DS poos about once every two weeks and I seem to keep missing the event!

We heard very good news this weekend that my close friend has been successful in her first cycle of IVF and is now 15 weeks pregnant! I'm so happy for her.

Bisou · 07/06/2009 18:19

tilly males do seem to be creatures of habit don't they?

Although having said that, with DS some days we get 1 poo, and some days we get 4-5! It's amazing how they vary too, depending on whether he's had BM or formula.

Regards slings/carriers LadyT, we have this one (with the support belt). It's a bit more ££ than some but can be adjusted quite a lot for lots of different carry styles. We needed a really good one because DS is now 10kg at 5 (and a bit) months! So we carry him on our back when we go out and it makes him feel so light. Much easier than trying to haul our pram out, and he enjoys looking around at stuff more when we carry him. The Ergo is also a really good carrier, I've used that one too.

And reading back - that's really disappointing about the house purchase, I'm sorry to hear it didn't pan out as planned. Have you been 'window shopping' as therapy? I'm terrible with property... can never stop searching for do-er-up-ers! Hopefully you can find something even better, perhaps this time with garden.

I'm still so behind with everyone's news. It'd be great to print out the last previous 2 threads and read them as a book. Or perhaps just copy them into a word doc and read as an e-book (better for the environment!) Can anyone give me a round up of the last 2 months? LOL

tillyfernackerpants · 07/06/2009 18:27

bisou maybe we should start our own podcast so everyone can catch up?

modern that's such great news about your friend! And well done on the weaning. I'm going the puree route again, and as with ds1, ds2 also has to have a spoon to hold as one isn't fast enough!

Bisou · 07/06/2009 18:41

oops X post ML

Baby-led weaning sounds great, I must try to find that book. What's the official title - is there more than one BLW book?

We made the mistake of starting with pears, so now all he ever wants is the sweet stuff! We don't give him food every day, but are now just trying to stick with occasional veg to 'recondition' him and if he's not interested then I figure he'll eat them when he's ready and we just stick to milk.

Bisou · 07/06/2009 18:45

tilly like the podcast idea! Or maybe a Yahoo group. They are awesome (Freecycle rocks!)

Oh dear. I just fed DS and he's decided he wants to be awake - he's singing in his bedroom, it's hilarious. It's 3.45am here, maybe he thinks if mummy is awake he can be too

tillyfernackerpants · 07/06/2009 18:52

bisou yep agree, Freecycle rocks! Ds2 also does the singing after a feed, is it a boy thing?!

Bisou · 07/06/2009 18:52

ah good boy, he's self settled. I suppose I should go to bed now too. Have a lovely day y'all! xx

Bisou · 07/06/2009 18:55

I don't know tilly but he can sing higher than I can!

modernlove · 07/06/2009 18:59

Bisou - the book I'm reading is called 'baby-led weaning' by G Rapley and T Murkett. I don't know of any other books but it seems to make sense and is pretty helpful. Haven't yet tried any sweet food with DS but will soon - probably will give pears and banana this week sometime.

Yes tilly - also liking the podcast idea!!

tillyfernackerpants · 07/06/2009 19:00

SummerLightning · 07/06/2009 20:42

Good evening everyone,
Back from bike race now. God I am unfit. I got overtaken by EVERYONE! (including the fattest man I have ever seen in lycra ). But it was great fun and a great course and didn't rain that much.
veggie not sure about what you mean about our team going together? But it was a relay over 12hrs, there was 4 of us, so we took it in turns. Our team did 14 laps and I did 4, I don't know where we came but probably near the bottom of the womens' teams! DH was not meant to be riding but a friend's team was down a rider so he did 1 lap for them just to see what the course was like!

LadyT I would not feel guilty about taking DD out in the pram in the evening if she sleeps. I am very jealous. DS will nap in the pram but not go to sleep for his evening sleep out in the evening. We are trying to train him to ready for holiday so we can eat out a bit later but no success so far. I wouldn't even mind if he didn't sleep but he gets tired and grouchy so it's no good.

Re slings I have a Manduca as well as the close one. DS is a little small for it still but it seems good, it is similar to the Ergo and the Pikkolo one that Bisou has. they can go on your back and your front which is good. Still using the close quite a lot at the moment though, DS likes facing out in it which he can't do in the Manduca.

Re babysitters, does anyone use any of these online sitter services that get you a babysitter? What are they like? I would like to get a babysitter for a night when we go to the lakes so we can have a night out, but I am a little scared to. Seems a bit scary to leave DS with someone we don't know anything about in an area we don't know. Hmmmm....

Is anyone elses DC trying to crawl? DS gets up on his hands and knees and then tries to crawl but just slides backwards. It shouldn't be funny but it is, as he's usually trying to get at something in front of him and he just moves himself away from it!

trace I did have a giggle at you falling over in the mummies race! Especially the extra detail about your charity shop jeans!

kayz sorry to hear about the haircut. when I joked it was a good thing didn't realise that you hadn't actually known she was going to do it! Very cheeky!

Ooooooooooooh apprentice final tonight. Glass of cheerfulness at the ready!

traceface · 07/06/2009 20:59

ladyT Phoebe's purees have so far been:
sweet potato - likes a lot
brocoli - likes if mixed with sweet potato
cauliflower - wouldn't swallow
parsnip - likes a lot
carrot - likes a bit - will eat if mixed with sweet potato or parsnip
mango - eats but pulls hilarious face and shudders with each mouthful
pear - would eat them until they came our of her ears
banana - not impressed
Ella's Kitchen Strawberry and Apple - nearly ate my hand off in eagerness
Ella's Kitchen Brocoli, Pear and Pea - tolerated a few mouthfuls then looked unimpressed
Whole strawberry - sucked happily until my hand was covered in mush - not sure she ingested any!
Cooked Carrot baton - knawed a piece of then had it rudel removed from her mouth by her neurotic mother
Slice of cucumber - spent 30 mins teething on it at the end of which it looked the same as when she started!
Some days she'll eat 3 ice cubes worth of veg and others she won't really open her mouth. She still won't tolerate any beaker/cup/bottle so she's having plenty of BF to get her fluids.

Well I made it to Harrogate and bought myself this to wear for my BIL's wedding next month. It was the only BF dress they had so I got it - but I need your help girls! What do I wear with it? What do I put on my feed? What about accessories? I'm rubbish at this kind of thing. I'm a bit of a jeans and T-shirt girl so would appreciate some fashion advice!

Summer - crawling?!!! None of that here! Although we've had a breakthrough...P went to sleep on her back this evening for the first time ever! Don't know how long she'll last but it's been 2 hours so far! wonders will never cease!
