Morning, sorry about being grumpy last night.
Have decided to go to race early tomorrow morning now. So hopefully will get some sleep tonight. Will probably be late for the start but doesn't mtter too much as it is a relay.

trace hope L has fun in London sounds fab.

pmk1 · 05/06/2009 13:17

aagh, just wrote a long one and lost it so this is going to be short now...

Kim Glad your friend made it in - sounded like an episode of UK border Force! What a hassle!
Tilly Yes we will have to get together since you are in my neck of the woods - was really nice to see Lady and Arti yesterday. Arti hope the school tour went well. I stopped at H&M baby and got B some things then tried some nice shoes on at another shop which I didn't buy as it was getting late and also had to go to Mothercare. Delays at the tube station and must have carried the buggy up and down about 100 steps as they kept changing platforms for my next train! I'm aching today, and I have one of the lightest buggys out there!
Waiting for a delivery now, and then will go swimming I think. had loads more but can't remember now....

pmk1 · 05/06/2009 13:19

oh yeah, Lal sorry to hear about your anniv dinner - done that before too - yes awful waste of money feeling isn't it.

Bisou · 05/06/2009 13:19

That's annoying about the insomnia SL. I'm often up till 3/4am these days, but out of choice. I am weird like that. Luckily I have super-dad to take over the mornings while I sleep in...

Veggie we sometimes give J a bit of water at night, usually if he hasn't done at least 3-4hrs since last feed. I don't pick him up from his cot, and it's good because he does realise it's not milk, just has a suck for a minute then I take it out, he rolls on his side and goes back to sleep. He doesn't wake much anymore though unless he's properly hungry so I tend to just feed him now.

We're still doing 1-2 feeds a night but haven't really moved on to solids properly, though we sometimes give him a bit of puree pear with baby rice or oats, and I let him chew on all sorts of hard foods just for fun - large bits of carrot, piece of cucumber, and the other day he had a great time sucking on a big piece of apple peel etc. All while I'm watching him of course, and I wouldn't let him chew on anything that might possibly break up and cause a choking hazard.

Regards the night nappies Veggie, we're just using 2 bamboo prefolds in a cover with gussets and it's surprisingly absorbent. It's always really heavy with wee when we take it off in the morning, I must weigh it one of these days to see exactly how much he's peeing at night (Mr Tinkles!)

Is anyone else back at work now too? I've got a massive rehearsal period coming up at work and it's going to keep me away from home like... well, like a normal job! Boo hiss.

Big sloppy smooches to ya'll (except anyone who's got da pox or is germy - you can have air kisses instead cause I'm keepin well away from youz!) xx

daisydora · 05/06/2009 18:34

Sympathies to all of you who have had bad nights. SL I don't know how you cope not going back to sleep. I'm lucky at the mo, DS only waking once and I feed him in a half dream-like state anyway! So I always manage to go back to sleep.

Think I am getting the lurgy - bad nead, sore throat, achey joints I can't wait to get the DC's to bed so I can go to sleep. DD is at a party in the mornning at an indoor ski centre! So I have to be well enough to take her as the party is for my god-daughter.

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2009 20:18

Wow everyone is very quiet tonight. SL I hope you get some sleep and can enjoy the 12hr.

Kayz did you know your MIL was going to cut his hair, I'd be really upset, his beautiful curls!

Oh dear noises upstairs gotta go

Kayzr · 05/06/2009 20:19

Nope no idea!

Turniphead1 · 05/06/2009 20:28

right, bookmarking at the very least or will never catch up with you all.
hello, by the way. Hope everyone is well.

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2009 21:12

Right back now. Funny evening here. I made DS1 beer battered salmon (with sparkling water) and star & moon chips (he doesn't really need chips to be visually exciting to encourage him to eat them, it's just me needing an artistic outlet) and I cut up some fruit for DS2 we all sat down together at the table, DS1 excitedly eating his fish with lots of mmmm mummy this is yummy & DS2 knawing happily on a strawberry. For a split second I thought I was the epitomy of the perfect mother one child eating fruit the other child eating his home cooked from scratch meal (was mulling over in my head what the title of my parenting book should be). When suddenly all hell broke loose. DS2 started going mental over his fruit freaking out because one piece was finished and he couldn't shove the next bit in fast enough. Then because I had got the fruit straight out of the fridge he got a case of brainfreeze and started squealing. At which point DS1 was suddenly incapable of feeding himself and needed me to feed him whilst trying to calm DS2 down. I then got some baby biscuit things for him to knaw on which helped for all of about 2 seconds. Then realized that he was probably hungry and so quickly gave him a feed which thankfully settled him down, and it seems I may not be a perfect mother

LadyThompson · 05/06/2009 21:16

Hello kids!

Just back from London (sooo lovely to see Arti and PMK yesterday and gorgeous respective infants) and I am very tired so I will post properly tomorrow.

Sleep dust to all the tiredies. I will see Veggie and Spot on Sunday night as I am definitely coming on Sunday night, young WG.

I so want to type more. But I need to top up me batteries.

Big lvoe to all.

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2009 21:22

Kayz I actually think that is quite out of order. First hair cut and any child haircut is up to the parents. I had a friend whose DS had beautiful curly hair and they let it grow long and it really suited him but my friends DSIS didn't like it so she took him shopping one day to give my friend a break and got his hair cut. It was so short and actually looked horrible.

Kayz we have just moved DS1 into a big bed, and we got him a Arsenal Duver set. He is so happy in it every night he snuggles under it with a big grin on he face.

LadyThompson · 05/06/2009 21:33

Big love, even.

I am also in a bit of a gloom as the Inland Revenue are not being very helpful re: the muddle about my DH's estate and it's getting me down. It's not the money. It's just wanting it to all to be resolved and desperately wanting not to have to deal with certain people any more.

But off to count my many blessings. Normal service will be resolved in t'morning

jumpjockey · 05/06/2009 21:44

Just a quick one - Thursday 18th, who fancies coming to Cam? just that I forgot about it and arranged for my dad to pop up in the morning, can probably rearrange him but if I'm going to end up being Billy no mates then won't bother...

Come on team, Cam is lovely in the summer, so far we've got me and possibly NJAN, lovely though a twosome would be I'm sure we can rustle up some more...

LadyThompson · 05/06/2009 23:13

I have to be in London early evening sans DD for a house meeting at my flat in London that day (it's our AGM) and it would be too complicated to come to Cambridge earlier as wouldn't be able to deliver her to DP. Sorry JJ. I do want to come to a Cambridge one though. But the 18th is just no good for me.

Just watched Big Brother. Shame on me!

Kayzr · 06/06/2009 06:40

Morning,

Veggie We had got an appointment for today to get it trimmed but not as short as it is. We think he actually looks more like a girl now than he did before. Plus he has lost his really nice little ringlet curl at the side of his face.

I went to Scarborough yesterday and I hate it. Sorry to anyone who loves Scarborough but I just hate it there. I spent most of the time pulling DS1 away from snarling staffies and rottweilers. I saw many PG girls women wearing tracksuits with their entire bump hanging out. Many of them smoking too. But anyway rant over I traded in our xbox that we never use(came free with mobile phone) and got a Wii with Wii fit. It cost £65 because I took in the xbox so very happy.

Hope you are all well!

jumpjockey · 06/06/2009 13:22

Waaaahhhh! I'm a sad git and like to read the baby announcements in the Times from when we were trying to find a name for DD. Someone this week has called their daughter Tuppence.

WG your MIL will be over the moon!

Veggiemummy · 06/06/2009 19:20

Kayz that is brilliant about the Wii. I have fitness coach for Wii and love it but there is the new Wii active out which I hear is good.

Another baby vagina Tuppence in the world. WG can you get your DH to write the word tuppence into one of his shows?!

waitinggirl · 06/06/2009 20:16

well the news at waitinggirl mansions is that madam took 3 oz ebm in a bottle!!! way hey!!! dh sat with her all afternoon as i was doing a workshop and eventually she got grumpy enough to work out how to do it. took a while, mind you. we're going to try again tomorrow to make sure she doesn't forget how to do it. don't know if this is going to help with tomorrow evening's babysitting, but who knows...

mil's first comment on hearing this was - well, now you can start giving her formula, that'll be much more convenient. i despair.

OP posts:
waitinggirl · 06/06/2009 20:19

to add... i only despair because i don't want to/need to give her formula, btw. and she knows how keen i am to keep bfeeding. humph.

VG dh refuses to work tuppence into his show. shame.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 06/06/2009 20:32

Hooray WG on the bottle work, and I roll my eyes in your MIL general direction. I'm kind of hoping DS2 won't wake for a feed I am going to give one last bedtime top up before meeting the girls and just hope he lasts til I get back. What time does it finish by the way? Not that I want to rush off but have told DH he isn't allowed to call me for help while the show is recording but didn't know an approx time when I would come back online for him. To tell you the truth he is more competent than I at looking after and settling DS2 the only thing he lacks are breasts. I did actually look at the formulas at boots yesterday as was contemplating having a ready made box as a just in case for DH but I got riled when I saw the SMA formula from birth onwards has the statement "Best infant milk for birth onwards" in prominent letters then in less prominent the letters "if breastfeeding is not possible or for complimentary feeding". How is it better than other formulas and they are not allowed to put any claims on their packaging that cannot be substantiated or that could be seen as advertising the product. I got so cross I went right off buying any formula and stormed out already penning a stern letter in my head! Obviously I haven't written it yet.

Tell mr WG he is assured of laughs from at least 3 gorgeous females if he sneaks tuppence in.

traceface · 06/06/2009 20:34

yes WG because Formula in a bottle is much more convenient than EBM in a bottle That's ace that she's learnt. Ha to your HV!

Well Sports day went well - lucy came somewhere in the middle of her class but and looked so cute in her PE kit! The event took a slight downward turn when I got roped into the mummies race and managed to fall over quite spectacularly half whilst running...I picked myself up with a "I've not hurt myself at all" look and carried on and came last Then in private I sneaked a look at my shoulder which was hurting and I've got a massive bald bit where I've taken all the skin off. Very sore. And big grass stains on my fave charity shop jeans . I won't be doing the mummies race next year!
My other woe is my mouth of ulcers. On in particular is excruciating and I really can't eat or smile. I've also discovered I'm not licking my lips so have got really sore lips but it hurts when I do. I've been using oraldene strong stuff which seems to numb my tongue so I've no taste or sensation of hot or cold, so when I am trying to drink (easier than eating) I keep burning my throat because that's the first point that realises how hot it is! I'm a bit worried it might be infected as my whole face is hurting down that side...would that be a doctor or a dentist issue? Who does inner mouths?
Lucy went to London to day with my parents and LOVED it! She's seen B Palace, royal horses, soldiers on parade, been on underground trains, been on a boat, seen the tower of london, heard Big Ben, bought a raven (of the cuddly variety!) and a buckingham palace fridge magnet and a postcard of the queen (!) and has just zonked into her bed! No doubt she'll be up with the lark in the morning...
P is still not herself. I think she's getting some high (but not very) temperatures and she's just grizzly and wanting to be held and sung to. She's got worse at taking her solids so I'm just focusing on the BFs while she's under the weather. Hope she perks up soon. She's still so snotty and crusty eyed - I'm wondering if it could be hayfever?
Actually on the hayfever subject - is anyone BF and taking antihistamines? The packets all say don't take if BF - but I've been taking them because otherwise I would scratch my eyes out. Do you think they could be upsetting P and maybe that's why she's out of sorts? Guess I could talk to a pharmacist on Monday.
Well I was going to do the ironing but it's getting less appealing by the minute...

jumpjockey · 06/06/2009 20:49

Evening all, trace re ulcers have you tried Adcortyl, it's a mild steroid that comes in a paste type of stuff and instead of doing what bonjela does it creates a sort of dry coating over the olcer so it heals really quickly. Feels bloody odd but always works for me, you can get it OTC. Also I've taken piriton a couple of times while BFing, DH said it was fine. It may be that the companies are covering their backs by saying not to use, just because they've not been able to test it. Is that encouraging or not?!

WG hurrah for Madam getting the hang of the bottle! It's such a reassurancef to know that they won't starve while we're out of the house... Another sigh to your MIL.

Kayz so sorry to hear about the unexpected shearing, did they at least keep one of the curls for you?

Bisou lovely to see you! that vid of baby chuckles on FB is sooooo cute!

SL hope you're getting on ok with the cycling and in fact have probably finished by now. Get DH to give you a bum massage if you're a bit sore after all that cycling (your DH that is, not mine

Well here the sleep has gone back to being a bit crappy, she wakes up and feeds but then is less happy about being put in the crib. We've decided that we'll try putting her in her own room when we get back from Canada, no point trying to make a new routine just before a big jetlagtastic kind of trip away. BUT she did manage to get herself off to sleep in the crib for a nap today, DH put her down and she whinged gently for about 5 mins (while I hovered upstairs just waiting to rush in... ) then all went quiet and she slept nearly 2 hours I think he's a lot better at just putting her down and leaving her, I feel a huge urge to help her which presumably just makes her all the more dependent on help. Sigh.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend, and have a top time at the recording tomorrow, give them a few guffaws for us

Kayzr · 06/06/2009 20:56

Jump Nope not one curl or anything.

DH has gone to the pub, the boys are in bed and I don't know what to do with myself. I've spent ages playing on the wii so don't want to do that. I might have an early night.

JollyBear · 06/06/2009 21:20

Don't do the ironing trace, ironing is a weekday job! Glad L had a lovely time in London. Re the mouth ulcers, I think it is a GP issue. You should go and get them looked at, it sounds realy bad. Are you feeling particularly run down apart from the hayfever?

Nice to hear from you bisou. Glad all is well with you.

I really want to rant about being annoyed with DH (who is not here, hence my annoyance) but it would make for tedious reading. Gggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr . That's better .

traceface · 06/06/2009 21:32

JB - I'm not really feeling run down although P still wakes for 3 or 4 feeds a night so I think 6 months of that is probably taking its toll...bad mouth ulcers is a great weight loss technique though - and I don't even fancy chocolate because it hurts! Sorry about your annoying DH...hope things are better after a good night's sleep
