Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
artichokes · 18/05/2009 10:38

Phew. No baby Artichokes are residing in my womb!

Veggiemummy · 18/05/2009 10:41

Yeah we are starting to get excited but also a little sad about leaving the UK. At least I will get to see Bisou perform. Have been looking at how much we will be paying in rent initially (trying to do some sums so we know how much we need to go home on) and it's not as bad as we thought in the area we want to move to. I think it helps that we can get by with out a massive house and pool.

Good luck with finding tennants PMK it is always a little nerve racking worrying when you'll get someone and what they'll be like but it will happen.

Veggiemummy · 18/05/2009 10:42

Hooray on your unfertilized womb Arti!

daisydora · 18/05/2009 11:15

Good morning...

arti congrats on the lack of fertilization

njan how awful for you DH and his family. So very sad.

At least it puts my shocker of a night into perspective. DS woke at 1am, he fed went to sleep and I heard dripping water, thought DH had left a tap on in the bathroom so went to investigate. Nothing So I went downstairs to find the dining room ceiling half hanging down and water going everywhere. Cue frantic running about turning off water and trying to control the damage. By 5am the whole ceiling had come down. The carpet (only 2 months old) is saturated and covered in dust and debris, the dining room table is ruined, and as for the rest I can't tell as there is a ceiling on it! The Insurance Co. are fecking useless, we may have a loss assessor out in the next 3 days, but we are not suppossed to move anything. I tried to explain this wasn't practical as I have a toddler and a baby and the only access to the kitchen is via the dining room. No dice....I am fuming and exhausted after having no sleep. I cried on the phone before, and am now waiting for the loss assesor to ring.

Aaarrrgghhhh.....feeling a bit better

pmk1 · 18/05/2009 11:15

happy for you Arti - are you planning another in the future?
Veggie - are you going to be selling your London Flat? Where will you be moving to? Syd?

pmk1 · 18/05/2009 11:17

Oh Daisy that's not ideal...so sorry.... Glad no-one injured !

daisydora · 18/05/2009 11:21

Well pmk thats the one thing to be grateful for that the children were in bed when it happened!

Bless DD though she said Grandad could mend it with his string!!

Veggiemummy · 18/05/2009 11:24

Oh oh oh oh oh daisy oh oh oh I cannot believe it what a nightmare. At least your all ok and none of you were under it when it happened. Surely this is considered an emergency. If you fancy popping up to Derby you can dos with us not much room but it's dry.

PMK yeah Sydney we have a little commune of friends in North Sydney so are aiming to end up there somewhere between frenchs Forrest and the beaches.

daisydora · 18/05/2009 11:28

Ah bless veggie thank you! My mum has already offered us a bed for the next few nights, so it will be an adventure for DD.

One small consolation, the plumber that is her at the moment is very sexy. Just a shame DH has taken the day off work

Veggiemummy · 18/05/2009 11:28

Oh that's so cute. Does he fix everything with string.

daisydora · 18/05/2009 11:30

Well he did tie it to a balloon for her at the weekend so it didn't blow away....there you go bit of string problem solved!

Kayzr · 18/05/2009 11:56

Daisy Sorry about your dining room but very happy no one was in there!!

Arti Yay for not being pregnant!!

Veggie V V jealous. I'd love to live in Oz. But not sure if I could handle the heat.

modernlove · 18/05/2009 12:48

Oh Daisy! What a shock! Glad it's being sorted. Reminds me of the time I heard a dripping while engrossed in the start of a film - then I remembered the bath I had started running - water was coming through lounge ceiling and bathroom was flooded. Luckily ceiling survived (big crack there now) and we finally got rid of the horrible carpet in the bathroom (from previous owner!). Anyway - hope you're not drooling too much at the plumber!

NJAN - am sorry to hear your awful news and hope you and your DH are ok. Such a shock when it's a child. Will be thinking of you.

JJ - sorry you had a bad night. I also worry about DH being kept awake and tend to re-attach if any loud crying.

Veggie - glad you enjoyed Whipsnade. Am also jealous of the move to Oz. I have always wanted to move there myself esp since spending a few months there when I was 20 and doing some work experience. Have some relatives in Sydney. We haven't ruled it out but less likely now married and started a family as wouldn't want to leave our families at the moment.

Arti - good news. Although last week when I was feeling slightly sick we wondered about the possibility and I have to say I would have been secretly pleased (my new employers would not have been!). But we are planning to start thinking about another addition next year some time!

Well DS sort of went into his own room last night! He started the night there. I then did the midnight feed in there and eventually got him off to sleep in cot at half one. Then when he woke for a half three feed I felt so tired I just cracked and brought him back into our bed. After that we both slept til half eight. I will be stronger tonight!!
Strangely enough he is asleep now - he had a half ten nap and then at half eleven I started to feed him and he fell asleep at twelve - not like him at all but I am not complaining.

Better get some lunch made while I can.

traceface · 18/05/2009 12:49

Daisy poor you, that sounds horrendous. Hope it can all get fixed soon.

Now someone please slap me and make me repeat "I must stop weeping in public. I must stop weeping in public. I must stop weeping in public"

Kayzr · 18/05/2009 12:52

Trace I can't slap you, you are far too nice!!

Starting to get annoyed with my period now! It used to be like clockwork before having DS2 but now it just comes on random days during my 7 day break from the pill.

sybilfaulty · 18/05/2009 13:28

Trace, I misread that as " I must stop weeing in public" and wondered what I had missed! No slap from me either, just a huge hug and a piece of cake. We all have days when it's too much and 4 year old Lucys can be very challenging. Mine was a bit of a handful this am too. I have in the past had to pull over in the car as I am crying so much about something, so dinnae fret, pet, you are not alone. This too shall pass

NJAN, I am so sorry to hear that sad news. I do hope Dh and the family are as OK as they can be in the circs.

Daisy, that sounds awful, I am so glad none of you were hurt. I think you need a coffee and cake sent to you as well. Or perhaps something a bit stronger.

Phew for no baby Arti. Recommend my lovely coil as I lovingly stroke my 5 month old extra pint of wine and caution to the wind baby.

Veggie, I think you are FAB for the way you handle being apart from your DH. I love your attitude and your postings, you always sound so full of energy and vigour, and you really inspire me to seize the day and get on with things.

Hello PMK, good to have you back but boo to the difficulties with your DH's job down under. You would have thought they would be crying out for good anaesthetists. I hope the flat thing sorts itself out. I've always fancied living in Henley.

Modern, I am rubbish for letting DS sleep with me if it means we both get some rest. No wonder he's not a fan of the cot.

Kayz, I haven't had a period for 3 years so can't helf with yours! I agree about the weaning thing. If he is still tongue thrusting it might be a bit early. If he is crying when you take food away, what about giving him something like a rice cake so he can go at his own pace? We did sort of BLW with DD2 and dhe really liked it. Cheese straws not ideal, but better than the cover of the Sunday Telegraph mag which M was eating yesterday. Not a great first food. I am not even going to think about weaning til after our hols, when he'll be 6.5 months.

JJ, sorry for the rubbish nights. Hope you get some kip soon. The boob thing sounds painful though.

Tilly, hope your baby group was good. I have been a bit rubbish at going to things with M , so he'll be Matthew no mates unless I pull my finger out.

We did a pub quix last night which was good fun. However, even though we won, the top 3 teams had to answer a tiebreak Q to get th prize and as all of us got it wrong the £££ rolled over to next week! Talk about moving the goalposts as no one had mentioned this in advance. We went with some friends who can#t go next week, so no chance to try to win it back. I think some of the other teams were not much competition though - the one I was marking wrote that they had come in for lunch but had drunk so much they were still there and thought they may as well carry on....

Hope you are having a good day.

pmk1 · 18/05/2009 13:50

Hi Sybs! I want to go to our local pub quiz tonight but I fear we are still a bit out of sync from the flight back... he's Orthopaedics, but it doesn't make a difference what brand - all the specialist overseas trained are in the same boat
Well I haven't got off the couch (except to console the LO who doesn't know if it's night or day) But I have managed to contact a few agents and organise the paperwork to get it re advertised etc....
Aaaargh.... so depressed.... haven't even got dressed.

jumpjockey · 18/05/2009 13:55

Oh crikey Daisy what a shocker! Tasty plumbers = a good thing, but falling in ceilings = not so good. Hope you get everything sorted with the insurance soon.

well we've had a minor miracle, dd enjoyed her swimming lesson [splish splosh] and has been asleep in the pushchair for nearly an hour perhaps her dodgy nights are being compensated for by napping a bit during the day. Swings and roundabouts, swings and roundabouts...

arti phew on the PG front, you'd have had to leave us for some terrifying "due in 2010" group!!!

turnip good to hear from you, and you sound as if the feeding decision had been the right one - still lots of cuddles for L of course and you've given her such a great start already.

veggie v amused at your chocolate postings from Saturday night!

oh crikey my dad's about to arrive - is babysitting while we go for dinner on my birthday so we're getting dd used to this funny looking man with a beard! more later...

JamInMyWellies · 18/05/2009 17:20

HI all,

NJAN how awful thinking of you and yours will give my monsters an extra special squeeze tonight.

Arti YAY for no little beans how embarrasing woukd that have been.

Kayz I would hold off or do as Syb suggested.

PMK sorry you are feeling so down you too trace no slaps just lots of tea and sympathy.

Daisy what a frickin nightmare but woohoo to the tasty plumbers.

Lovely news this afternoon my very good friend Large Gin & Tonic has just won mumsnet mum of the year am chuffed to bits for her.

Still crap sleeping here am thinking of ditching the dummy as am sure its causing more problems but cant baer the screaming whats everyone else doing who is dummying.

tillyfernackerpants · 18/05/2009 17:33

daisy how awful for you, glad noone was in there at the time. Have you sent dh out on a made up errand so you can ogle the plumber some more?

jam I couldn't bear to ditch the dummy as ds2 would just work himself up into a frenzy at bedtime. What we usually do is during his daytime naps we take it out when he falls asleep so he gets used to sleeping without it. We try & do the same at nighttime as well but that doesn't always work. However, he does sleep now until about 5-ish so he is getting used to not having it all night. Does that make any sense?

trace no slaps from me, just passing over one of the choc chip cookies ds1 helped me make & some tea. How was your group?

arti phew for empty uterus!

I really liked the baby group today, it was nice to have something to do with just ds2 for a change. He's usually just tagging along with ds1's activities. Anyway, all the mums were lovely & it kind of reminded me of our basket. One woman had twins (just 6 weeks old!) & as soon as she walked in, 2 others took the twins off her, fed them & made her go have a cup of tea, a biscuit & a natter with everyone else. It just made me think that that's what we try to do in a virtual way .

Kayzr · 18/05/2009 17:46

Jam, it's fab news about LG&T isn't it!!! Couldn't think of anyone better!!

daisydora · 18/05/2009 18:57

Quick update, leak solved and loss assessor coming out tomorrow. They did say we could clean up, so we can at least get to the kitchen again. But the house smells of damp plaster its horrble. Two builders coming in the AM also to give quotes. I just hate living in the mess

waitinggirl · 18/05/2009 20:07

daisy - poor poor you - that is horrid. i know all about loss adjustors - my dad's house burned down in 2003 (no one hurt, thank god, but you can imagine the chaos and awfulness - happened 18 months after my mum died, too - my poor dad!) and we know all about insurance etc from dealing with that. glad you can use the kitchen and hopefully it will be sorted soon and you can have things back to normal.

arti - hurrah! although dh and i are already talking about when to start trying for #2(!!!)

NJAN - i am so sorry. i cannot imagine how hard that must be - we are all so lucky, aren't we?

turnip - so good to see you back - we missed you in fins park - can we lure you out again sometime?

pmk - welcome back!

here's a question for you all... dh looks like he may possibly have shingles, although we're not sure. a red itchy rash appeared a few days after the itching actually started - he's got no real other symptoms. should we be worried about dd who is 5 months old? also, what about friends who are pregnant? also, should he go to a doctor, or would a pharmacist be able to diagnose? he is frantic with work and unable to really go to the doctor unless it is desperate - for lal and jj, he is writing series 3 to a RIDICULOUSLY tight schedule - recording starts in 3 weeks (hence my deadline to get madam to take a bottle so i can be there)

thought i would consult the gurus

OP posts:
pmk1 · 18/05/2009 20:26

Hi WG! sorry about the shingles - perhaps get it checked to make sure it's what it is? Apparently he should stay away from dd and anyone who hasn't had chicken pox until all the blisters have crusted over and then a couple of days after that. My BIL had it when ds was vv young so we stayed away... not too nice.
Daisy glad the disaster is getting attended to! You need some wine.
Tilly where is your baby group? You are near me? No?

tillyfernackerpants · 18/05/2009 20:33

Pmk, the baby group is in Brentford on a Mon am, next one is after the bank holiday. Is that close to you? Would be nice if you could come

Daisy, glad everything seems to be getting sorted, hope its just sorted quickly

wg, don't know about shingles but probably best to get it checked out by a dr
