sambo303 · 17/04/2009 20:45

I am going into work next Tues for a meeting- a whole day away from ds doing some load of inconsequantial crap. Got to get on with expressing for him as I have zero milk in the freezer Managed to get him to drink from a bottle today, progress

Miamla · 17/04/2009 20:50

you know if we don't go back to work we have to pay money back (unless of course you just got the basic amount), do you know if we pay back the amount they gave us or the amount plus tax?

sambo303 · 17/04/2009 20:52

you pay back the net you receive

dizzydixies · 17/04/2009 21:03

ah see now sambo this is when you loose me when you start talking net/gross etc etc

pf delighted to have you back and I'm glad you finally managed to enjoy your time. my DH did the exact same as yours. He had a job application that I told him to get in before we left, eh, no. Told him to get it done whilst up at his mums (internet access etc), eh, no. forgot to bring the charger south so ended up running back and forward to friends house and wasting the sunniest afternoon of the week doing it and then it still didn't get in on time he has also been told you and I deserve a weekend away somewhere with their credit cards

as for the dress, I shall go back and take another look at it as I did overload a bit this morning on the old dress front I'm in a complete panic re what to wear to the sodding christening in a few weeks as am such a lard - its either just on the lighter life for a couple of weeks to try to shift it or spend a ridiclious amount of credit money in Anna Scholtz and hope for the best

dizzydixies · 17/04/2009 21:07

pf do you mean the navy coat dress?

the problem about leaving it till later in the summer is that they've then got the sodding autumn/winter season in BUT the problem about buying it too soon is that you miss the benifit of the sales later on - tis a quandry. Are you the kind of person who would be motivated by seeing it hanging there waiting to be worn, I'm not but some are

I personally think you can't beat a good supportive undergarment so -suckyouallin-- give you some confidence AND a properly fitted bra to get the norks on show. Please remember you'll have the best accessory in the world with everyone cooing over handsome Toby and the kids in their wee outfits

sambo303 · 17/04/2009 21:17

sorry, all this talk of work had me right back into the jargon wot I mean is, the cash that lands in your bank account is what you pay back.

pf that dress would really suit you and you should get some of those spanx or the like that Trinny and Susannah recommend, they are great (not a good look for in front of dp/dh though)

pf welcome back, but sorry your dh was busy during your free time.

I see all the banana and poo throwing has calmed down

Both dcs asleep, dd took 6 minutes, ds took 45min. I am afraid I let him cry it out as every time I went in to pick him up just in case he had wind, he nuzzled into my neck and stopped crying. So I let him settle himself. but think he needed it as he was sooo tired. iykwim
just trying to justify letting him cry really as it kills me.

Deciding to go to zoo with dsis and her dcs tomorow or not

pertelote · 17/04/2009 21:38

Evening.

Cardio update: in and out in ten minutes ! Echo technician quote, "Oh it's easy once they're fixed, there's nothing to see"! So all is well and we're signed off for the time being. Three-monthly check-ups and possible second op down the line but for now no meds, no scans, all good.

Now while your minds are on dresses can I have your opinion? I recently splurged on an outfit in the Hobbs sale - can't link directly but 'Marjorie' skirt here and matching (cotton) top here. A bit more than I usually spend even in the sale but I convinced myself I'd get lots of wear from it. Now it's arrived I love it but can't honestly say it's smart enough for weddings etc... will be lovely for our little not-a-christening-just-a-celebration party but hmmm, don't know... maybe if I got a jacket to match? But the Hobbs one is sold out in my size (cough-huge-cough) and anyway is £ouch (maybe not really, maybe I am a cheapskate after 2 years ish in scruffy clothes?). Any ideas? I do have an old dress that is remarkably forgiving size-wise so could just wear that (again) to this year's wedding (one so far, August - by then perhaps it won't matter that it's not BF-y?) and square it that way? And either way I have perfectly good shoes so am pretty cheap to run really,,, Hmmm.

Look how I can witter on about that, who knew. Whither my habitual conciseness?!

poppysocks · 17/04/2009 21:41

Hi pf . Sorry to hear of the strife, but glad to hear the week away was good. Beware the spanx. I witnessed a v. undignified display by a very lovely but rather desperately single friend at a wedding last weekend who, having had one too many drinks decided that said spanx were rather uncomfortable and not likely to help her chances with the chap she'd just found. Cue lots of hilarious (for bystanders) drunken falling about whilst trying to remove said undergarments whilst keeping dress and heels on. Thank goodness it was in the relative privacy of the ladies loo.

Oh dizzy. 400 quid. Any chance of shopping around? At least you received lots of donated alcohol and cake from the good ladies of the thread.

Sorry to hear of the works woe oops. I second the advice to get advice(!) on your situation. My contract annoying states that I may have to repay - ie they can decide what level of bastard they want to be. Oh well. Not going back isn't an option anyway so I will certainly be pocketing the lot.

Generally on the accrued holiday thing, don't forget that if you take all your annual leave on the end of you ML you are accruing holiday whilst doing that too .

poppysocks · 17/04/2009 21:45

Sorry, X-post there pertelote. What fabulous news about M. Congratulations to you all!

Can't advise about the clothes as am a style dunce. However, having recently splurged on clothes, would say that a little of what you fancy does you good.

pertelote · 17/04/2009 21:54

Thanks Poppy!

Oh and sorry to all who've had less good days - bad news/crappy bosses/hurty wallets etc. Have been up since 5.30am so a little manic around now - DH usually v v good at getting up when DD decides it's daytime and letting me sleep but poor chap is not well at all.

sambo303 · 17/04/2009 22:12

my contract states I must pay back my 3 months top up if I do not return and I also have to remain at work for 6 months minimum or have to repay. They cocked up my top up and I am expecting a cheque any day now for £3K, good job I checked it or else would have been seriously out of pocket. I'd advise everyone to check they got what they were entitled to - I have worked in payroll and many mistakes are made sadly especially in mat payments cos they are out of the ordinary and often calculated outside the normal software hence human error

a friend gets 6 months full pay and does not have to repay if she does not go back, very - an ex civil service post perk

pertelote great news on M

ds distressed tonight, have administered calprofen

PMSL ROFL

I LOVE YOU LADIES!!!

Never a dull moment on our threads.

Dizzy that is TOO MUCH MONEY. Can you get another quote from another painter?

Oops allow all future calls from them to go to voicemail then DELETE the message before listening to it.

Pertelote that is INCREDIBLE NEWS! You birthed a strong one!!!!

VG so glad you are back.

Poppy I love your Spanx story. Reminds me of my wedding dress/pant suity thing. Thankfully I realized I couldn't get out of it alone once I was back in the hotel room wiht assistance.

No1 did your DH clean up the poo?

Dizzy you need some Jack Daniels straight up.

PF nice job with the dinner. It's a bit hard to pull that one off here too.

Sambo and Miamla

Steaky I hate to lump folks together BUT I read ages ago a thing about raising children in France and I came away from the article with a bad taste in my mouth about FRENCH MEN and their WAYS regarding family life. This doesn't help you BUT are other men in France similar to your DH in how they "help" with domestic things? How he is being may be all he knows and he may not be willing to change that fact for obvious social reasons.

Sazzles I can totally see dd1 saying that about the bunny clock. Very serious indeed.

Dang...who'd I miss??

Just in from day out in the sunshine with MY NEW JOGGER!!! Pics on FB. I LOVE IT!! It was the last one in stock/store display/discontinued item....so I got it at discount. sorry not a very good singer but I am very happy about the purchase. WHY didn't I get it in the first place.

Off to watch beach travel logs on tv. Jamaica anyone??

DH's cousins are tag teaming the island this month. One just got back today and the other goes in 5 days. CRAZY! The pics are nice. I was so young the first time I was there. I had not clue what GANGA was and brought back a GANGA UNIVERSITY t-shirt thinking it really was the university there.
