treedelivery · 05/05/2009 12:11

Dog - cry. Not minor, major. Loads of crap my love, adn it's a pita and a worry. Money is huge, only people who don't agree are either minted or protected from rl by fairies [imo ]

Ha ha, not me, I am on mini-pill! At least I am when I remember to take it

My bets are firmly on you dog! After that, prob chefswife - you're not using contraception are you? And you are always at it !

So... Nye has always been a 'sucky' baby, and we tried a dummy from about 3 weeks but he never really took to it - would much prefer to fall asleep on mummy's nipple. Now he has started sucking his thumb! Used to be hands, fingers, any part he could squeeze in, but over the past few days he has definitely refined it so that now just his little thumb is going in there. I've tried the dummy again, but he spits it out. Should I hope the thumb sucking is just a phase, or should I try harder to reintroduce the dummy? Would much prefer to get rid of a dummy at 2 years old rather than have a thumb sucker at 10 years old! (my brother sucked his until he was 11!).... but on the other hand, maybe it's just natural and not the end of the world.... Thoughts please.

treedelivery · 05/05/2009 13:29

Nah - Ray.

Just got period, explains greasy hair! Good news for egg donation programme but urgh. Didn't miss those.

Feel a bit glum, no longer in baby bubble. Even my body agrees.

LenniEd · 05/05/2009 13:39

My bets are on Chef, Dog or MissJ too - if Dog isn't now then my money is probably on Chef since she's got a 5mo and a sex life oh, and a spare bed

I hope it isn't me too! Just gave all my maternity clothes to the salvation army so better not be!

Dog - sorry about van and boiler - understand money worries making you down. Pretty much all of the big arguments in our house happen when we're broke. It's so stressful.

MissJ - we have same with DS and his thumb (do we have the same baby?? ) but I'm persevering with the dummy for sleep. He sucks his thumb when he's awake but if he is struggling to get to sleep he flails his arms about and can't keep his thumb in long enough to settle. Also I can re-settle him with the dummy in the night if he wakes. Plus the dummy was handy for DD until about 18mo if we were out somewhere and she was tired or scared or just generally grotchety as it would settle her. She binned hers at 18 months and only asked for it once or twice after so I'm not too worried about him having one. There is a bit of snobbery with dummies in the UK ime - I have a spanish friend who cannot believe it when people are hiding them away, ad taking them out for photos. Apparently they all have them there.

Tree nooooo! Fluffy post on way though

EachPeachPearMum · 05/05/2009 14:02

I'm with dog- weaning is such hard work- you're constantly sorting food out I found... milk, food, milk, food, milk, food just never ending... and the clearing up-

DS loves his dummy its just for bedtime though.... I did wonder if he'd switch to thumb once he found his hands, but he seems to prefer the side of his index finger
He definitely prefers dummy to my nipple when he just wants to suckle not feed... he spits my nipple out, but mouths, and makes little noises until I out his dummy in!

pg- better not be me- I gave all mine to Flamesparrow!
I reckon chef, rray, or dog!

tree I know what you mean- he isn't a noob any more, and this time I'm thinking "Oh, I won't have a baby that does x anymore. Oh- thats the last tine I have a baby that does y for the first time" etc etc Its quite sad actually
I never used to like babies, though Ive always adored children- just thought babies were a bit boring, or mental, or back-breaking work... but ds.... well- he's lovely, I don't really want him to get big (and turn into a tantrumming 3 yo )

tinkishappy · 05/05/2009 14:24

Wow, this thread is moving at a rate!!

Dog That chart would be amazing if you have a spare moment! Don't worry if you don't though. I second, third, Fourth the waiting in anstisipation of your test results!!! Exciting buisness.

Having next baby First - Well i totally rule myself out of the running! 1- sex drive not really there at all poor OH, 2- Got wedding to plan and Dress to fit into 3- The plan is to try when Esme 2 1/2- 3 years. So i'm sure someone else will have popped one out by then. maybe missj for first???

Dummies i read somewhere that babies up until 3 months have a suckling instinct ( i would have thought it was longer than this??) Esme hasn't really ever used a dummy apart from occassionally she used to use one while i was drying her from her bath and waiting for a feed. But she hasnt even wanted one then for weeks. She doesn't suck her thumb, just part of her hand!!!

Esme has decided she doesn't want her big long 2 hour nap today (ususally goes 12 noon- 2pm) And is still wide awake bouncing in her tiger bouncer, having had about 20 mins since 10am this morning! Esme has always been a bubba who LOVES her sleep in the day... So i'm shocked! Praying this awake time = another good nights sleep! Be bloody brilliant!!!!

LenniEd · 05/05/2009 16:03

It would have to be a (virtually) immaculate conception Dog! Can count on one hand the number of times we've had bedroom activity of the getting pregnant variety! Although am feeling a bit more inclined now - has anyone read the bf and libido thread on here. All so true.

Yep, another one mourning the newness passing. I'm sure now he'll be my last, I want my life back. I have really enjoyed him being little though, has made up for all the awful months with DD.

Tree you will love it - once you've holidayed in a vw you'll be totally smitten.

Our current camper (called Cowboy) is a lot older and a lot tattier than the one you are going away in and doesn't have a pop-top so there is just a full width bed in the back and a bunk that fits over the cab. We have twin sliding doors though and can do an awning on either side of the van if needs be. He started out as a panel van that was converted by the previous owners and the lack of a pop-top can be somewhat backbreaking when cooking etc. Doesn't stop us having loads of fun in him though, great for family days out and picnics and for piling into and having lovely hot chocolates after freezing cold winter dog walks.

Our first van was a dormobile called Clyde - dormobiles definitely hold a special place in our hearts. We have since owned two Westfalias (Westys) which are the German factory fitted ones the last one of which we restored from a rolling shell to fully kitted out with original parts and accessories. 'Charlie' as he was known, was totally gorgeous, but we had to sell him as he would have been totally ruined by all our kids and dogs rampaging through the interior.

Anyhoo, was temporarily lured out by the vw theme, I'll crawl back under my rock now - been there for a few days. Will be back properly when I'm feeling a bit brighter.

Yes, out from under your rock MM and stick with us. We need you, dynamo-mum! I always think of you when I put Nye into his swing so that I can cook... you inspired me. We have the same swing!

LOL at those who think I will be first to get knocked up again.... not if I can help it! Actually I'm torn - part of me thinks it would be lovely to have a brother close to Nye in age, but another part thinks it's just a bit full on and too much like hard work to have two 'babies'. Having one is lovely because I can visit people and still have time to myself occasionally, but with two or more I'm sure that childless friends aren't so welcoming! Or behind their smile they are gritting their teeth! But that's not really the point.... I just really want to appreciate my next newborn, and right now I am all caught up in Nye Heaven....

Took him to 'rhyme time' at the library today where we sung songs. Of course he is far too young to appreciate them, but he seemed really happy and even banged along on a tambourine for a bit. Good for me to brush up on my nursery rhymes too!

Was stupidly amazed to find lots of wonderful baby books there - am going to stop buying them now and make it a weekly trip. Might even get around to reading something myself!

I am supposed to be PACKING! (Move on Sat! so will be awol for a while)

tree yippee for your van, looks really cool and Devon is wonderful, especially north coast. We're borrowing FIL's winnibego (not sure how you spell it) in July to drive up to Scotland for a wedding and a week poodling about. Is anyone en route from South Wales to Scotland?!
