Hi all.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed here after a much improved night! Your right missj i have been TOTALLY spoilt by Esme's Sleep loving to date- so when we had a hiccup it through me for Ten! Last night she did 7pm- midnight-6am. So REALLY can't complain and feeling GREAT for it!!!

OH has day off today, and for SOME reason I'M up with Esme and he is still sleeping? somethings gone wrong there! i should have fed her at 7am and sent them off together and got some extra snoozing time! Will have to fix that!!!!

Esme is LOVING her doorway bouncer.

No rolling going on here, but then Esme doesn't spend a massive amount of time on her tummy. She really doesn't like it, but i put her on for about 5 mins a day. She has a VERY strong head and neck though, so not too worried. She has stupidly strong legs. She has been able to support her body weight for WELL over a month. She would be able to stand if she had her balance/her head wasn't still so much heavier than body. If i stand her during no nappy time only have to hold her hands and she can stand! Not sure if this is normal? But her daddy walked at 8 months so not massively surprised!!!

missj So when are you planning No.2 bubba? I think we are planning to wait till Esme is at least 2 1/2 to start thinking about that. Small matter of wedding first! :-)

Better go... Esme needs putting down for nap... getting grizzly!!!

rrrayray · 05/05/2009 09:05

books X posts... interesting about Bumbos! Esme doesn't go in Bumbo most days... only a bit here and there, so i wonder if it will effect her or not. Being a first timer i'm a bit lost on when is average (ok so Average is a loose term, i know every baby is different) for rolling, sitting, standing, walking, etc.

eppm I think the wetting can be due to a cold, could it be that? my DS seems to have less control when he's under the weather.

rray there's a lot going on with them at 3-6 month and growth spurts get mixed up with teething etc.... DS1 seemed to be teething from 3-6months and it wasn't til 6 months before his first teeth came through....

missj yes! I miss the sitting watching CSI, not least cos I can't do it with DS1 around (too frightening).

gosh now James crying.... this was going to be a long post but is in the end lots of little ones back soon for the next installment....

fym thanks- yes, I think she is coming down with yet another cold!

books interesting re bumbo- DD used one, and she sat unaided from 5mo, which was pretty early- never really wobbled over either like some babies do- was just solidly sitting. She was strong (neck, back, and legs- sounds like rray's Esme!) from birth, but like tree's Hatt she was held almost constantly upright- sling, arms, bumbo whatever to keep the milk in not down her front.
I think some people use them before baby is ready really, because the bumbo will hold them up, even if they're not particularly comfortable. I only put mine in them for a minute or 2, building up slowly- as soon as their head dips or eyes flicker, I know they've had enough, and out they come.

Yes- roast dinners were always a fave of dd (me too!)- so much to grab, and probably just tasted similar to my milk because I eat them sooo often if I can. She is still a huge fan of them at 3, but thankfully uses her fork now
YAY for new car!

chef very interesting about peppermint tea! I didn't know that at all... when DS was tiny, I noticed he was always grumpy when I was on a drinking peppermint tea day... whenever I had fennel (boosts supply) he was always happier and more settled. Very useful to know.

Lenni my dd hated the potty- used the loo almost from day one- I think the potty was too uncomfortable on her skinny legs. 3 hours is excellent though... as long as she lets it out sometime.

dog where are you??? we're all dying to know!

DH also took me to the fair last night.... felt like teenagers again!

treedelivery · 05/05/2009 10:00

I think dog must be at the midwives clinic.....

I can 't believe the posts, have read but can't remember them.

Except rays amazing sleep is seared on my brain . OMG!! Hatts did 2 till 5 in her amby nest and I am so chuffed. I'd have a street party if she slept that lot! Good on you both, it's lovely to be rested and really enjoy your day.

Re: weaning - I am not looking forward to it, but then I am as well. I am so glad to have all you to talk to about it. This is a loaded one for me, like bf 2nd time for others We started at 5 months 2 weeks with Jess as hv told me too. God what was I thinking? Well, I wasn't.

Mind you, in fairness to hv, everyone around here weans onto baby rice very very early, and all babies have hungrier formula and night time as well. So I was probably a one off for them. Plus it was 4 years ago and the whole 6 months thing was relatively new.

BUT it did set a horrendous pattern. SHe didn't want to eat, screamed on contact with many foods, was actualy scared sometimes I think. But I just thought, weaning meant food mattered. ANd all the literature said so too then! Fecking Anabel Karmel, [not keen myself]. Jess has been very difficult to feed and has had long term constipation - I still sry when I think about what I put her through on the potty. Yesterday though she ate her first raspberry, and loved them. Yay!
This time it will be different. Oh Yes! I think some babies are certainly ready to wean earlier, but some aren't and weaning means one thing to one person and to me it meant 'FOOD'. Going to go sllllllooooooly this time. Plus Jess went on to get atopic ezcema and asthma [mild] and I do wonder......

Hark at you lo, out to dinner and fairs and so on!

treedelivery · 05/05/2009 10:06

Books - yay for new car!

We have one too! On the road Friday gone, a scenic. So am a proper mummy now. Only £1300 and it's ace! I heart it.
Do not miss the 180k miles boy racer golf at all. And I don't cripple back putting kids in car seats. AND it has isofix [we don't have the right seats but its their all the same]
Not sure about bumbos and highchairs - I always imagine their backs ache and they can't say. But I'm a softy and they would cry wouldn't they. EPPM has it right with the cue's etc. What a sensitive lovely mummy you are - and all of us. Yay!

I know for sure babies shouldn't have weight bearing loads running down their soine, as they don't have lordosis till they learn to sit naturally. But I think the bumbo sirt of tilts them so they aren't on their bum doesn't it. We bought a reclining highchair and would recommend.

Bubbas must be getting old, our conversations are changing!!

Oh Books - our dd1 [4.5] has completely abandoned knives and forks. Bizarre.

Books - and not a 15 year old lowered with fat wheels golf to be sure.

Would love a new golf. Very snazzy, What colour did you choose?
Agree re: make own informed decision. I think around my parts [from what I hear in the weigh clinic] the night time milk is used if the babies wake in the night to stop them doing it. But I thought ff babies woke at night too? I know the young ones midwives look after in the 1st month do.

I dunno though, out of my experience. I think I used some baby rice, but certainly didn't get through the box.
I had whisky, bread and porridge in my milk bottle [top of teat cut off] and still didn't sleep apparently poor mum!

Dog you STILL haven't tested! You know Asda sell a two pack for about £2.99 or £3.99...

MsSparkle · 05/05/2009 11:17

Ok this thread has moved on quite a bit since i was here a few days ago.

Potty training- I got dd potty trained in March this year. She was 2.5 and was ready. It was wierd because i tried her at the beginning of March and she wasn't interested at all but just 3 weeks later she was ready and it took just a couple of weeks.

Once she was out of nappies, that was it. I definatly don't recommend pull ups, they are a waste of time and money. Someone put potty training in a good perspective for me, they said think of potting training like learning to drive. If you fanny around having a lesson here and there then it will take longer and you are less likely to pass where as if you persivere and be consistant with it, you are more likely to pass and to learn quicker. That made alot of sense to me.

It also shut step mil up who has been going on and on about potty training dd since she was a year old. She also used to enjoy telling me how her dd was potty trained at a year So when dd was dry AND clean in a couple of weeks. she was kind of astonished. I am guessing she spent months of hanging her dd over the potty to try and catch the wee and just made alot of hard work for herself >>smug emotion
