chef - never taken an exercise class before - used to keep fit on bike and not really think about it. but having her there was so distracting that i might as well have not been there. an occasion for a babysitter i think, since pilates will actually deal with the specific devastation that pregnancy wrought...

lenni, will post photo when ittis arrive

dog, glad lo has settled, hope it was just a nasty mmoment of wind...

in other news, went to pub with dp this evening, met friends, sister babysat, c slept through like a normal baby, all good

stripey for night out- what a good baby!

elkie dh was in thorncliffe for his final year

Hmm exercise... nope, can't remember what that is I'm afraid

chef she'll moan for a few days... but you'll be so glad when she just goes down after that.

fymmumoftwo · 24/04/2009 07:14

dog - sounds like a bit of wind, with DS we used to have to keep putting him in different positions until it passed - I used to put him on my chest and lean forward (so LO flat) then side, then side then back....quite big movements but gentle. alternated with massaging clockwise round belly button. Mind you even doing all that it took a while to pass! Hope ok today, if not trip to docs in order....

stripey - well done - I'm hoping to go out on saturday!

I don't think any of you are near Heathrow for a meet up??? Anyone local?

fymmumoftwo · 24/04/2009 07:19

books - if bf isn't working then don't you've got to do whats best for LO and bf for 3 months is pretty good.

2 thoughts - are you expressing - i found it slowed my supply down. Also don't use a teat on the bottles that is too fast flow if you want to mix feed, I intended to mix feed DS1 when I went back to work at 6 months and he just wasn't interested in boob after a fast flow bottle!

morning

dog - glad she settled
eachpeach - how is yours getting on? is rash clearing?
does anyone use pampers was using new baby tried baby dry ones last night and she slept longer and using pampers active fit now.

fymmumoftwo · 24/04/2009 08:46

yep I am also put to shame by all the real nappy users here!!

I think baby dry are more absorbent than the new baby.... new baby is supposed to be good for newborn poo but I don't find the baby dry any worse and better for wee IYSWIM. Haven't tried active fit yet.

fymmumoftwo · 24/04/2009 08:47

washing machine just given up the ghost - mind you it is 10 years old so has had a good innings....

rrrayray · 24/04/2009 09:38

tink I too am using pampers... But, Esme has never ever been fussed about a wet or poo-ey bottom at all. She would happily sleep in both! Funny child!

she has slept REALLY well the last 2 nights. I've decided not to bother waking her at 10.30pm for a late night feed anymore, as she seemed SO sleepy when i was rousing her. Last 2 nights shes slept 7pm- 2am- 6am. Don't really mind the 2am feed, especially as OH and i were so tired last night ( god knows why!) that we decided to crawl into bed at 9.30PM... so feeling refereshed this morning.

It was Esme's first night in her room all night last night. Was a bit sad not having my little family in our room, and i know HV advise is until 6 Months, but shes too long for her moses basket... Plus she has a breathing monitor, so we went for it, and she slept great. i think she likes to stretch out. Last few days i've put her down for all naps eyes wide open & shes sucked hands (not thumb, part of hand!!) to sleep! Result!

Dog I too would have been very worried about Isla, as Esme isn't a crier either. Did you say she has just had her jabs? As Esme has been a little touchy at times since her jabs on Tuesday, but no Temp or anything.

EPPM I second what people are saying about the rash likely to be connected with jabs. One of my NCT ladies her DS had a rash from 11-13 days after the jab, which doctors linked to a non allergic reaction to the jabs. (1st batch) Hope its clearing up, if not.... Why not call NHS Direct, they will be able to give you guideance as to whether a doc trip is required! do whatever you need to, to put your mind at rest.

Fym Sounds like your the closest to me.... but still not Close i'm afraid. We're in a little Villiage Nr. Ipswich. Don't think anyone out my way!

Am VERY looking forwards to afternoon, am having hair cut & coloured, OH should be home in time to look after Esme, have expressed enough milk for 5pm and 6.45pm Feeds, so will be in no rush to get home. Friend of mine joining me, so think we might go for an Early dinner afterwards! yay.

Talking of Expressed milk... How long is it OK in the fridge? I was told rule of 5... 5 hours room temp, 5 days in fridge, 5 months in freezer. What are the current Guidelines? The milk for today will be fine, i did it late last night, and first thing this morning to get enough. But, in june we're leaving Esme for 24 hours- my parents are babysitting her at our house, but i don't know how to approach the expressing Situation really. If you freeze milk, does it Defrost in fridge, or room temp? Help!

missjackson · 24/04/2009 10:33

ray I am no expert but heard the rule of 5 too. I freeze my EPM, take it out the night before I need it, and it defrosts overnight in the fridge. If you have an emergency, I think you can defrost in a jug of warm water too. Only big no-no is not to use a microwave, which I'm sure you know already. Have a lovely time getting hair cut, sounds heaven!

dog hope Isla is back to her angelic self this morning.

I was at Manchester too! Only for my MA, in 98/99. I lived in Chorlton. Very happy memories.

fym I am in Wales, just over the Severn Bridge... if anyone is ever up this way over the summer, then please call in!

books hope you're feeling better about the situation today, and hope you get a chance to really relax, whether it's a babymoon or just having some time to yourself.

Lenni Inspection seemed to go okay, but I got busted for not watering the tulips outside... knew there would be something! LO let me down too - normally he goes off to sleep by 7.30pm, but he kept waking up, and didn't finally go down until 9pm! But nice enough evening in the end...

Had lovely late morning today - LO up at 7.40am with OH leaving me to sleep on, then he brought him back to bed to feed at 8.30am, and LO just went off to sleep... so I thought I would too! Snuck out of bed at 10am and he is still fast asleep... and what a gorgeous sunny day!

EachPeachPearMum · 24/04/2009 11:10

books hope you're doing okay today and feeding is going well.

tink we use pampers too the new baby ones... he sleeps well in them- when we had a pack of huggies, he woke more... nothing else wrong so I put it down to the nappies

well, while I took dd to nursery school, DH called doctor and got ds in this morning. She thinks just a viral rask, no concern unless he's ill... which was my thinking, but DH said he'd been really unsettled while I was out.
What she was concerned about though was his skin its really dry and she was worried it would deteriorate and be a problem... so now I feel like a crap mother for doing nothing about it! (in my defence, I thought it was just his cradle cap moving down a little from his face!)

moosemama · 24/04/2009 11:39

Morning

Another non-school run day here - DH not impressed that I have had the audacity to be ill 2 days in a row so that he had to get the boys ready AND walk them to school - bad bad mummy!

Have started high dose ferrous sulphate and am taking them with chewable vit c 3 times a day - didn't really feel my lovely floradix would cut it this time. I feel very slightly better than yesterday but still really rough.

Did anyone else's nurse put little round plasters on their lo when they had their jabs? We had a new nurse and she just slapped them on, one on each leg, without asking and now poor dd has had a reaction to the plasters and has a bright red ring of spots around the outside rim of where both of the plasters were - pretty sure it can't be a reaction to the jabs themselves, as its not actually at the injection site and they were different jabs in each leg, (men c in the left and everything else in the right).

Glad Isla settled down Dog, hope she is ok today.

EPPM good that the doc wasn't concerned about the rash, don't worry about the skin thing, I often think Mums instincts are far more reliable than GPs. As long as it's wasn't infected or irritating him there was no reason for you to be concerned about it. DS1 used to get really dry skin all around and between his eyebrows, he grew out of it in a few months and has never had a problem since.

moosemama · 24/04/2009 11:46

Oh and we are still using Moltex eco disposables here, they are pricey but do a really good job and we've used them for all 3. Will probably switch onto Nature Baby when my stock of Moltex run out, as they are much cheaper and I can have them delivered with my Tesco order. I used Nature Baby ones with both DSs when they were older and didn't have any problems with them either.

rrrayray · 24/04/2009 13:20

moose & all you others using more eco nappies! Good on you... i'm afraid the though for a first time mother was just too much! Tad Lazy i know! Thanks for the milk storage guidelines. Funny how there are variations though. i think if i stick to the shortest Times out there, i should be OK.

Esme is unlike herself today, keeps waking from her lunchtime nap, (Esme is a huge fan of sleep!!! And i usually wake her from it ) of 2 hours.Shes only had about 30 mins. That said, when i go in and settle her, (not picking her up... just patting) she'll go back off to sleep!! I really need to hop in the shower before her daddy is home & i head to the hair salon! Eeeek...

Spink · 24/04/2009 14:16

hello everyone,
both dcs are asleep (WOOOHHOOOO) so I'm grabbing the chance to catch up - If I stop abruptly, you'll know why!

moose I really feel for you, hope you are back to your normal self soon but don't rush it - if your dh has to put up with you being poorly for 3 or 4 or god forbid even more days then that is the way it is! good good mummy for not making herself ill by pushing herself to do too much!!
We're not giving Rosie vaccinations, other than measles which she'll get when she's 2ish.. and ds hasn't had them, so no experience of jab reactions, I'm afraid. Sounds like it makes sense that it's the plaster not the jab though. is it any better yet? have you been able to take the plasters off?

ray have a lovely time this afternoon - sounds blissful. In fact I think you've inspired me to book myself for a haircut, even if I'm tired and smell of posset, a good haircut can make me feel like a bit less of a moose. (No offense moose )

stripey I went to mother and baby yoga with ds once. Once and never again. I think I actually injured myself coming in and out of poses too quickly because I was stopping to comfort ds, who was a bit cryey. All the other babies didn't make a peep of course and I felt like an arse and that I and ds were somehow disturbing their class.

books you're doing alright, lady, ok, maybe it is not what you had hoped, but like you say, your ff-ed ds is fab. At times the boob needs to get off its boob pedestal

shit, baby up ... going

treedelivery · 24/04/2009 14:19

Am away till Sunday so have a good weekend all! x

tinkisenjoyingthesun · 24/04/2009 14:29

missjackson · 24/04/2009 15:29

tink photos sound lovely.

spink glad you got 5 minutes break while both DCs were asleep!

We are getting so fed up of early morning nappy changes here! He seems to stay dry until about 5am, and after that needs changing every hour or so until we finally get up at 9ish! Have tried different nappies and fleece liners etc... he is just very sensitive to wet nappies I guess. But he is never going to sleep thru the night if he can't sleep thru a wet nappy .... & I am feeling sooooo tired today! Finally got rid of my Dad and sister, bless them it was lovely having them to stay, but after PIL visit last night as well, it all got a bit too much. Nice to have the house back to myself...

tree have a fun weekend!

MM hope you feel better soon.

moosemama · 24/04/2009 16:48

spink no offence taken!

MissJ read on another thread that bamboo boosters had solved the overnight wet nappy problem for several people - might be worth a try?

Our washing machine door seal has degraded and smells truly awful no matter what I use to clean it. I can buy a new one for £15.00 but DH is whingeing about having to fix it as he only repaired the thermostat on the tumble drier a few weeks ago.

regarding meet up i live in the south of england

stripeywoollenhat · 24/04/2009 18:15

evening all

night out was lovely but have been suffering all day - two and a half bottles of beer and i have a hangover!!!! c decided that she was not having anything to do with her cot despite desperately needing to sleep, always helpful when you are waiting for the nurofen to kick in.... i presume it's because of the sleep deprivation. was a bit worried about alcoholic breastmilk but c didn't wake for a feed till 4am so think it should have been out of my system by then...

tummy time today included some suspiciously organised looking limb movements. days of lounging on couch with laptop while baby bats at mr lion in the baby gym may be numbered, i fear....

OP posts:
stripeywoollenhat · 24/04/2009 18:18

dog, c has a whitish tongue but it isn't thrush, just milk residue, so it may be that. glad isla better today, it may be that you are tired today because you were stressed yesterday evening.

OP posts:
LenniEd · 24/04/2009 19:00

Dog - What are you doing on Monday? I am leaving hotel in Exeter at about 10am and can't get into my accomodation in St Austell until 3pm. Would be nice to have something to do for a couple of hours. DH doesn't arrive until late Monday evening as he is working away until then so I'll be on my own with the 2 DCs in Cornwall for the day. If you're busy a recommendation of something I could kill a couple of hours with in or around St Austell would be great. Pref something easy to manage them both at - but you'll know what I mean

MissJ - the wetting will lessen as he gradually drops night feeds - I use bamboo boosters, they seem to work for DS. Are you sure it is his nappy? DS is restless after 5am, he sleeps in fits and spurts after that, but I think he is just bored of sleeping by then and is looking for a bit of attention! DD was the same and woke early and fussed from 5am - 7am sleeping on and off but as soon as she started crawling she was more tired and needed more sleep. Now she sleeps until 8am pretty much without fail.

All these nights out sound lovely - must plan one hope you are enjoying yours Ray. (Have to confess to having had 1/2 a small glass of wine at a restaurant the other day and telling DH I was far too drunk to drive! So don't worry about your hangover Stripey!)

MM - hope you are feeling better soon.

Yes - movements getting more organised here too - there is intent now.

On the missing ailments front, I took DS to the HV this week and stripped him off to be weighed (16lb 2oz!) to be told his nappy rash was so bad he needed it treating more effectively and was sent home with a prescription and a telling off! The worst part is I hadn't really noticed it, I was putting some kamillosan on it and changing him often but in my dimly lit house it didn't look nearly as red as under the flourescent lights.

Friday night rudies Dog?!! It's Sunday night here

Spink - are things better with you and DH? Have you sorted out the move?

EPPM - Glad you saw doc, nothing worse than worrying even if it is something minor.

Have a great weekend Tree - although expect you've already gone.
