And then he slept. It seems the growth spurt is over here too. We've had a sleepy day and 3 hourly feeds and I was only up once in the night last night, which isn't quite back to normal but is a million times better.

I will endevour to catch up now...

I'm hoping to find stories of a successful hen day Tree

rrrayray · 20/04/2009 20:34

hello hello ladies!

missj has nye found his hands yet? Esme has always been pretty good at taking herself off to sleep, but now that she is hand sucking (not thumb, whole hand, greedy thing!) i can put her down wide awake (showing signs of sleepyness) and she'll suck herself to sleep, occassionally with a little whimper. So maybe if he like his hands he'll use them to self Soothe? Is Nye still sleeping in a Swaddle blanket?

Back from our weekend in Brighton. Lovely. Feeling recharged. Weather gorgeous this afternoon!!! Well all day, but were driving home this morning.

Hope everyone else well, not got time to go back over all the posts i've missed!!

Esme 2nd lot of jabs tomorrow!!

stripeywoollenhat · 20/04/2009 20:58

lenni - glad to hear about sleeping, hopefully pooing too... c is exhausted today, but still eating more often than normal. i think she takes after me though, wouldn't let a little thing like a growth spurt affect her sleep at night, so it's still just food every hour in the day but sleep at night.

tink, hope you've made it through the clothes sorting - that's the sort of job i never get further than half way through before something comes up and i have to shove it all away again...

ray, glad you had a good time in brighton. c also has her hands in her mouth all of the time at the moment, to the point that i'm wondering about teething, particularly given that she has had slightly pink cheeks today. but can't see anything in her mouth (insofar as i can see in her mouth, since she thinks it is a game of suck mum's fingers)

tree, hope you are down off that ladder by now and that you have stopped house sorting for the evening, moose

rray - glad u had a good trip

any thoughts ladies?

dd1 who is 3.5 years has been wetting her pants in the day on and off 3-4 times it is frustrating. happens more when she is on the computer.

EachPeachPearMum · 20/04/2009 21:08

Wow- lots of jabs tomorrow- hope they all go well...

welcome back moose and rray

Just sewing the last few name tapes onto dd's uniform for the morning

tree it must be the weather... I have had a mega-clearup in the garden today- just had the urge. DD was fab at helping me.

re sleep... it has taken until my second child to find out that babies can go to sleep by themselves... and not cry whilst doing it
I find that putting him down as soon as he's tired (usually 1 hour after he's woken tbh) is the best for him... he just drifts off- usually with a dummy, but not always, and sometimes with hands, sometimes not. It is so much better than when they scream themselves off to sleep... a la DD.

EachPeachPearMum · 20/04/2009 21:10

x-posts... tink is it for attention? our neighbour's dd did that when her baby brother arrived.... just wanted to get more time with mummy...

LenniEd · 20/04/2009 21:18

No ideas Tink as I can't be bothered to haven't potty trained DD yet. Is she just holding on to try and get to the end of what she is doing? Perhaps if you asked her if she needs to go every so often like you prob did when she first started potty training then she might get back in the habit of going to the toilet regularly. Might be a reaction to all the goings on though with new baby etc. - my DD had a bit of an immediate reaction but friend's DD whose little sister was born about 4 months ago now is only just showing signs of jealously now. There is a lot of wetting going on with her and a bit of hitting too - they are all different aren't they. My DD just refused to go anywhere near DS and would cry if anyone picked him up, now though she is really protective of him and sits and chats to him, am sure there will be a rocky road ahead with their relationship though

Still no poo! I can't remember when the last poo occured. I think it was either weds or thursday morning first thing. Either way, he's had a lot of milk since then, and no poo.

I am wondering about teeth here too - D had a bit of a sore looking red bottom gum today and I can definitely feel a tooth very close to the surface (they feel sharp once they get close rather than just hard). With DD I could always feel it for a couple of days before it came through but not sure what he will be like with teeth, perhaps his will be slower to come through.

stripeywoollenhat · 20/04/2009 21:18

eppm - even when she seems ready to go back to sleep after 45 minutes she cries on the way down... wow, a uniform: imagine you must feel a bit conflicted about it?

tink, i would say maybe attention too?

Good luck for tomorrow EPPM

EachPeachPearMum · 20/04/2009 22:12

stripey some do have a 'mantra' cry- just a wah wah before sleep- dd did hers until she was 2.5 - it was an improvement on when she was this age though!

Lenni- eek! for teeth already.... tis a scary thought.

elkiedee · 20/04/2009 22:40

stripey, no I wasn't having a life, just posting on other mumsnet threads. Mainly some quite interesting debates on breast and bottle feeding! Did have an NCT antenatal class reunion yesterday and the Jolly Babies group today, both of which were fun, and had to do some other stuff.

I've also been reading a bit of my book - no 30 in a series of historical novels I've been reading for 18 years about the history of an aristocratic house and family linked to it (Cynthia Harrod-Eagles). And shopping for baby clothes.

What's having a life?

stripeywoollenhat · 20/04/2009 22:44

elkie - don't ask me, i stopped all that in 2008. today i got a tots bot nappy in the post and tried it out (on catherine, i hasten to add ) - it didn't leak: today's highlight...

morning

cheers ladies

she hasnt been right since chicken pox really which she had @ xmas

missjackson · 21/04/2009 09:00

Morning everyone...
Yey for sleep Lenni! EPPM hope this morning went well - and that you got lots of cute photos.
ray Nye sucks his hands too so I am hoping he will use them to self-soothe. He's been in his grobag for about a week now, and however much I trim and file his nails, he always wakes up with another little scratch somewhere on his face! But they seem to clear up really quickly.

The plan is to wait until we are all settled into the new place, and then do a bit of very relaxed 'sleep training' - basically let him cry but sit next to him and sshh and pat him - then gradually withdraw over several days. I've been watching videos on youtube!

So last night I took Nye out to the pub with me to meet some old friends who were working nearby on some 'new life in the country' show. OH was supposed to be home in time to babysit, but got stuck in a field near Cardiff full of horses refusing to be caught after a long winter of fun! I did the bedtime routine, then snuggled him up in the car seat, thinking he would sleep in the car there and then stay asleep - the first part of the plan went well, but the moment we got there he woke up. Everyone loved saying hello to him, but my heart was sinking thinking oh no, any moment now he is about to kick off with overtiredness. But no, he was a complete angel all night (refused to go back to sleep), smiling, laughing and gurgling at everyone! I think I have a very sociable baby on my hands (OH is the same!). Anyway, was very pleased that he was so lovely, but he's already being stroppy this morning so I am sure we will pay for it today!

rrrayray · 21/04/2009 09:12

missj i was led to believe sleep training wasn't to be used on babies under 6 months? I'm not sure where i heard this from... but i'd check it out before you use it on Nye! Esme is EXACTLY the same with the scratches, she always gets them, but they heal SO quickly.

tink being a 1st timer, not really up on the knicker wetting, but the attention seeking idea seems to ring true. Esp if its only been since LO arrived.

Lenni i think we have the signs of teething too. although i'm hoping not just yet.

Ladies..... especially those with children already. Did you breastfeed even when they have teeth? Do they ever nip you? i'm just thinking ahead to when her teeth arrive, as i want to BF her to solids, but the idea of teeth is ouchy!!! Did anyone Express the milk and do it via bottles? Thing with that is it would be like feeding twice, once expressing, once feeding! urrrgh!

LenniEd · 21/04/2009 09:19

He's pooed! A lot of waking and trumping in the night and then poo first thing - yay!

Nye sounds just like my DD MissJ she would stay up (and still will!) until midnight if no one put her in bed. She used to wake at 6am no matter what time she went to bed but now she has 12 hours pretty much always so if she is in bed late we get a lie in! It's fab! She is definitely a night owl - can see many teenage years spent slumming it in her 'pit' as my Mum used to call my bed when I was that age!

Sleep training - think best to wait like you say, moving will knock your routine anyway. I think it is more effective the longer you wait from my experience with DD - any sleep training we did before 12 months we just had to keep repeating as it would work for a while but then something would knock her out like going away or something.

LenniEd · 21/04/2009 09:22

HVs say 6 months here - perhaps that is where you heard it ray?

Good luck with Esme's jabs

Teeth - think you are meant to either push them towards breast so they unlatch or unlatch them yourself if they nip and they soon learn not to. There is a bit on kellymom about breastfeeding etiquette which tells you what to do. Not sure how effective it is as DD wasn't breastfed.

stripeywoollenhat · 21/04/2009 09:24

rray - i know someone whose eight month old bit her, so am also feeling some trepidation about teeth... i think it's not usual though or nobody would breastfeed past five months, surely...?

missj - what do you use to cut his nails? we have a little clippers from boots which is apparently designed for babies, but i cut her finger with it last week (possibly the most awful five minutes of my life so far, i felt so bad) so am not going there again. but now, of course, she has talons - i don't mind the holes she is digging in me, but she is also scratching herself. i think i am going to try emery boards, though i foresee quite a lot of wiggling... (if anybody has any suggestions...)

tink, sorry about dd1 - i guess those viral things can take a while to get over

stripeywoollenhat · 21/04/2009 09:28

lenni - exceedingly pleased to hear about pooing (now there is a sentence i never expected to write....)

MsSparkle · 21/04/2009 12:12

Hello, i haven't caught up for ages.

Finley is 13.5 weeks now! He had chicken pox last week, caught them off dd. He only had 5 spots, i feel quite lucky that he got iot mildly. He was supposed to have his 2nd injections this morning but he is still running a temperture so have moved them until next week now.

He wieghs 15lb(9ib 8 at birth) His hieght is 66cm! He is on the 98th centile line so he is going to be a tall, slim boy (his dad is 6ft 4.)

I think he is showing signs of teething but i may be wrong? He is a lovely contented little boy.

He slept through from around 9.30-10pm until around 6am for three nights but last night woke at 3.30am for a feed. I would love him to sleep through every night and have tried adjusting his feeds around but no joy. It is still early days though so i will play it all by ear.

I will catch up on the long thread now...

MsSparkle · 21/04/2009 12:17

Also, what time is everyone putting their babies down to sleep? I put Finley down after a feed at around 9.15-9.45pm. He is in his cot now, he out grew his moses basket bless him and he is used to the cot now. I would be nice to put him down earlier but i don't like the idea of waking him up for a dream feed at 10pm or whenever and i certainly don't want him waking at 5am to start the day.

stripeywoollenhat · 21/04/2009 12:35

hi mssparkle - catherine goes down at seven, but wakes a couple of times between then and about nine in the morning - never possible to say when (last night 1.40 and then about 5). she is 11 lbs 6 and 58.5cm, so a good deal smaller than finley! her weight gain has been on the lower end of normal, i find myself worrying about it although i know it is in the normal range and development is otherwise on target

OP posts:
stripeywoollenhat · 21/04/2009 12:36

she is 13 weeks and two days, so about the same age as finley
