Buzzy ds has a cough too and he keeps saying it hurts after he coughs

He also put his teeth through his lip yesterday and there was blood everywhere. He knocked it again in the afternoon yesterday and it was bleeding quite a bit again but it seems fine now, he just has a fat lip and two big cuts

Well I had an embarassing moment in m&s earlier. We got a gift voucher for xmas and had £10 left on it so I decided to treat us to a dine in for £10 meal (we've been eating mainly beans and lentils for the past few weeks!), a lady walked past with a new baby who was really crying and dd got a bit upset. I said it's ok, babies cry, nothing to worry about and asked if she remembered how ds used to cry ALL the time when he was a baby. Then she said yes but when you have another tiny baby it won't need to cry because I'll be the big sister again and Douggie will be the big brother and we'll look after the baby and make it happy. I got all choked up just thinking about it and even more so thinking that it probably won't happen and before I knew it I had tears streaming down my face

Doctorskidaddle · 05/06/2009 16:41

clairey - that is such a lovely thing for your DD to say as well - will you tell DH about it or do you think he will get annoyed and feel pressured? You are obviously really upset about this even if you try not to show it and an honest open discussion might help? Or do you feel like it's all been said and it would only make things worse?

beckle - that is so sweet re your DD and her operatic singing! I absolutely love this age, don't you? (when they're not teething anyway..)

cazzy - glad Evie was OK after her MMR - has it been 10 days yet? It might all kick off then so brace yourself! DD had her pre-school jabs recently and it was absolutely fine despite being terrified for the 2 weeks before it

Did I already tell you that DD broke her arm? - fell off a swing (took one hand off to point at something). She is fine now though, very proud of her purple plaster cast and climbing up the climbing frames etc one-handed as if she never had two!

SuperWasher · 05/06/2009 17:23

Have just put a couple of pics on profile.

Skid probably best not to mention it at all tbh, no point causing an argument!

insywinsyspider · 05/06/2009 21:09

hi all

skid sounds like dd is coping v well with cast, hope she stays out of trouble for you

clairey big hugs hun, it was a lovely thing for your dd to say x

and to everyone that said it this is a lovely age, Toby has just started talking loads, more than ds1 ever did at this age (I was about to have Toby when he was 18months so its a time that really sticks in my mind) its brilliant, he has the cutest smile and also some amazing tantrums! he's really getting frustrated that I don't always understand - god knows what happened to the baby signing he seems to have given up on it in favour of stamping his feet!

38 +1 wks today, final countdown!

sorry if I missed anyone!

becklespeckle · 05/06/2009 21:31

I'd have been crying at that too Clairey, what a lovely thing for DD to say and also a little . Beautiful pics of the DCs on your profile!

Skid, I do love this age yes, they are totally adorable (apart from when tantrumming...) luckily DD had all her teeth by just after 1, not so luckily at the time quite a few of the molars and canines came through within a week. Poor DD and her broken arm, doesn't sound like it is hampering her much though! Cazzy's DD is not at 10 days past MMR yet, that will be Monday, both our DDs had the MMR the same day so will be watching Evie like a hawk on Monday...wish I didn't have to work the evening as I will probably spend it stressing about her.

Insy 38+1! wow! My DS2 talked far more at this age than DS1, I always put it down to the fact he heard DS1 and I talking loads.

I am so excited, DH has agreed to let me have a couple of chickens! Yay! Have been badgering asking him for ages!

insywinsyspider · 05/06/2009 21:43

beckle at chickens, I'd love to have chickens but our garden is too small!

becklespeckle · 06/06/2009 16:33

My garden isn't huge either Insy, this has been DH's argument against for some time! However, he says I never ask for much and he gets lots of stuff he wants (latest project is a kit car...) so has agreed, we're looking at Eglus on ebay at the moment to house the chooks in!

BouncingTurtle · 06/06/2009 17:32

Insy It seems like it was only yesterday you told us you were pg!!

Clairey - poor you And poor ds with his fat lip, hope it heals soon. And your dd is so sweet

Cazzy - glad dd is over her mmr jab.

DrSkid - your poor dd - but how brave she is

Buzzy - it's awful when they cough like that, you never know what to do to make it better.

I am loving this age too, Daniel is just too cute! I love the way he runs around, dances, and he sometimes copies things on the telly - ITNG started and he was drawing a circle in his hand just like they do to the babies! And he loves dancing with Boogie Beebies!

I took to a birthday, he had a great time being entertained by some older boys on the bouncy castle, and he kept waving at everyone too

insywinsyspider · 06/06/2009 21:43

beckle we looked at eglus and they tell you how big your garden needs to be for them and ours is half as big as it needs to be - we're just luckly we have a green outside our house for boys to play with bikes on and in the summer its really very socialable

MW appointment today and baby not even engaged could be waiting a while

also how many of your lo's are still having milk during day and before bed? Toby has beaker before lunch nap and 6oz ish of formula at night - I wondered if this was too much, he's a chunky thing so unlikely he'd waste away without it!

dundeemarmalade · 06/06/2009 23:43

ooh, ooh beckle there was an eglu for 120 quid in our local newspaper this week - do you want me to e-mail the number?

insy am crossing everything for a happy birth! and fwiw our teeny tiny daughter (coming in at 2nd centile, but with nearly all her teeth) only now has 2 x 4 to 5 oz bottles a day, one 1st thing, 1 before bed. we will shortly be introducing a cup, but as we had the devil's own job to get her to take a bottle neither of us had the resolve to make the switch until recently, and she's got very attached to it.

hello everybody, by the way. long time (very long time) no mumsnet but missing you guys and determined to find time again.

been trying to catch up on all your news (congrats to bumps!) while sitting downstairs in the dark having Big Sulk cos DH cannot see that I have given everything up to live here and stay home and chosen to look after DD while he gets to have a wee in private whenever he wants doing his exciting, well-paid and rewarding job. Hmmm. Spot the grown-up... So apols for bad typing if any am sitting in the dark as befits a proper sulk.

anyway, dd stirring and dh away AGAIN with work tomorrow night so should really, really, go to bed.

it may be the glass of spanish-rose-from-m&s-that-was-supposed-to-go-to-the-nct-raffle-but-ended-up-in-the-fridge talking but i've missed you guys.

BouncingTurtle · 07/06/2009 13:01

Welcome back DM!! Good to hear from you!

SuperWasher · 07/06/2009 14:12

Welcome back dundee, are you back to stay? Hope so!

Insy ds has bf first thing and before bed. he still asks for it a lot during the day but I usually fob him off with food. He will sometimes ask for milk (as opposed to boob) during the day so then I give him 3-4 oz in a cup (cows). He has also been having a small amount in a cup before bed to be like dd when she has hers but I'm not giving dd milk before bed now because she doesn't want to wear nappies at night anymore.

It's only been 2 nights but both nights she has been completely dry all night but then weed in her bed when she woke up in the morning. Not a bad start though...

claraquack · 07/06/2009 20:55

Dundee - welcome back, I know what you mean about weeing in private, I run upstairs and hide in the toilet sometimes just to give myself a few minutes of peace!

Skid - sorry to hear about dd's arm, what a nightmre, poor little thing.

Suey - good to have you back with us.

Insy - good luck - I may be away when you give birth as we are off to St Lucia on 19 June for about 10 days to see schools and househunt. I will look forward to hearing all about it when I get back, although may be able to log on from there anyway.

Beckle - good luck with the chickens, I believe there is a Mumsnet section entirely devoted to chicken keepers! It certainly is very trendy, one of my brothers and his family have had a couple for a while and now another of my brothers is also getting them. Just look out for the s**t all over your garden!

Milk - Martha has about 9 oz at night now and nothing in the morning. She seems pretty happy with this.

I've been on my own all of last week and again this coming week as dh on a course up in London (back at the weekend). It's a bit of a pain but sooooo much easier than it used to be. As long as I keep busy in the week, it's ok. I don't particularly like doing bath and bedtime for two on my own but once they are in bed and asleep I do enjoy being able to eat what I want, where I want and when I want, as well as being in control of the remote

cazzybabs · 07/06/2009 21:40

oh god I can't stop sneezing... I've had a runny nose for a week now. I was blamming the pollen but (1) I never get hayfever this late and (2) I normally get itchy eyes and throat so I think it may be swine flu (or just a cold) AND (3) I never get when I am pregnant.

I am so jealous of the chickens...I WANT CHICKENS. There is a space in the garden that could be theirs..but dh says NO . Beckle - I'll come and feed them for you when you're on holiday

Claraq - sounds a tough trip

becklespeckle · 07/06/2009 23:16

Insy at your small garden, could you not get an Eglu and let the chooks free range? Then it wouldn't matter if the run didn't fit! Would not worry too much about baby not being engaged yet, DD didn't engage until late and never fully, she sat so high I had a flat spot under my bump right up until the end of my pg. Only first babes engage and stay there. DD still has milk morning and night, she has a cup full but doesn't always drink all of it. I think it is fine to keep giving it for as long as they want it, they need the calcium and the fats, vitamins and iron are good for them too. DD is a bit of a chunk too, had her weighed this week and she is just below the 91st centile line now , mind you she is sturdily built quite tall.

Dundee! Welcome back! I always miss you guys when I don't have chance to post for a bit too, sounds daft doesn't it! IKWYM about not upsetting DD by changing her bottle, it took months to get DS2 to drink from one and he didn't like the change to a cup, in the end I let him have a bottle until he was about 3 but only for his milk. I use a Tommee Tippee Tip it Up cup for Evie, she likes the soft spout, she only uses it for her milk but I was so grateful that she would drink milk from something other than my boob that, like you, I haven't wanted to upset her by changing it! Might be a good transitional cup for you though, looks like a cup but still feels a bit like a bottle? Oooh, I would love the number of the Eglu from your paper! At that price I could afford to courier it down to me! Can you CAT me or FB me?

Clara I have been lurking on the Chicken Keepers section . I have to say I agree with you that nights alone are great, DH went out last night and although getting all 3 bathed and in bed and getting the kitchen tided after dinner etc is a bit difficult alone (DH gets that pleasure tomorrow night when I'm at work, hehe!) it is lovely to have the peace and the remote for an evening! Must be hard though to do it for a week or so at a time though.

Cazzy, it has taken me years to get DH to agree to these chickens, keep nagging! I'm sure DH is getting excited about it now, he keeps saying things like "I suppose I'll end up cleaning them out" (but rolling his eyes and smiling). Just checked our FB group and I didn't see the messages you posted WAY back in March to say you are in Cambridge, you are only an hour's drive from me!

BT, DD loves ITNG, we snuggle up and watch it together and she thrusts her hand into mine so I can stroke it in circles!

Clairey, it sounds like DD is making a good start to nighttime dryness, managing to keep dry all night is a big step, perhaps you could try those absorbent mat things so if she doesn't make the toilet in time when she wakes at least it doesn't mean a full sheet change?

Doctorskidaddle · 09/06/2009 11:23

hi everyone, and welcome back dundee - at you sulking downstairs in the dark!! I can completely empathise with the sentiment - I have always been madly envious when DH swans off to work leaving me with two crying babies, knowing he'll be quaffing fresh coffee (when still hot) and having intellectually stimulating conversations while I am wiping poo off bums and pretending to be DD's doggy! But would also be if he was at home with them all the time so maybe I am just a contrary old bint

clara - completely agree about having an evening alone when DH is away. It really is so much easier now, isn't it? Not that it's EASY or anything, just that it's not state of constant panic and feeling like you don't even know what your name is you're so hassled.

insy - I thought the head didn't engage until labour in 2nd and subsequent pregnancies? So could be any day... My friend is a week overdue and sooo fed up. Oh I remember how miserable that is. Especially when you get 5 phonecalls a day asking you if you've had the baby yet!!

DS is teething to beat the band, screaming screaming screaming. I am beginning to wonder if he's ill as well - can't remember it ever being this bad. Oh and DH is going away tomorrow and leaving me to deal with it all alone - what joy

spiralqueen · 09/06/2009 15:19

DDs having milk mid morning and early afternoon (about 2oz each) then normally between 12-18oz overnight. Just typing that it seems like a lot but she's a big milk drinker like her mum.

My sister started out with chickens and now has ducks and geese so is building up quite a menagerie.

How's DDs broken arm coming along skid?

Had the joys of getting DDs passport photo taken this morning - she was all grins and it took ages to get a shot without her smiling. Photographer had a good old moan about the regulations

Buzzy how's LOs cough coming along? How have you treated it? DD has developed a cough that only comes at night and doesn't seem to wake her but like you I'm worried about whether she is getting enough rest. Have switched her milk for water at night but doesn't seem to have made any difference.

cazzybabs · 09/06/2009 20:57

Oh god Beckle - don't tell me you live near me and have chickens....I be your chicken stalker

becklespeckle · 09/06/2009 21:31

at Cazzy, no chickens yet but soon...very soon..! You would be very welcome to come and play

After looking at Eglus for a few days on ebay we have decided for the extra £30-£50 it'll cost we are going to look at getting a brand new one, plus I get to pick the colour...hmmm can't choose!

becklespeckle · 09/06/2009 21:33

SpiralQueen, I remember well the joys of trying to get passport photos for the DSs years ago... are you off anywhere nice?

insywinsyspider · 09/06/2009 22:32

beckle my votes for a red one

insywinsyspider · 09/06/2009 22:39

drskid yes every time I ring someone there is a slightly panicked 'is baby coming' response and then they just sound disappointed that I've actually rung for a chat no sign of baby yet!

milk thanks for your replies, think Toby is probably having a lot for him but he seems to be ok with it and dh and I decided that and night potty training with ds1 could wait till probably christmas when we have the energy to tackle it

beckle our garden is about 5m by 4m of grass we have a small playhouse in garden if they ran free range they might take up residence there which would upset ds1 who still believes its his domain and not Toby's, its on my wish list for our next - maybe never - house, that and window sills! sounds mad but I'd love window sills...

cazzybabs · 10/06/2009 08:57

Evie has hand foot and mouth and so is off nursery. I feel a bit of a fraud because she ahs a few in her mouth and 1 on her hand (so far) and apart from it causing her pain to eat/drink she is full of beans

cazzybabs · 10/06/2009 08:58

I like the purple one (eglu), although I thik i would go for the pink one

buzzybee · 10/06/2009 09:03

Hi Spiralqueen, I have done nothing specific re DD's cough. She had similar from July until December last year. At the time I put it down to repeated viruses but doc now thinks there's a fair chance its asthma. I'm to wait another week and if she's still the same he's going to try ventolin to see if it makes a difference. Part of me hopes it will (help) but I really don't want her to have asthma. I have been trying to cut out foods with preservatives as apparently there's some link between sulphites (preservatives mostly found in dried fruit and preserved meats) and asthma but haven't really noticed any appreciable difference.

I found out tonight that one of the mums at DD's creche lost her baby last week at 37 weeks, so awful. Her older DD is 3.

I must admit I have no desire at all for chickens. Maybe because of associations with bird flu! (do you remember that?) Just as well as we live in a new house with about 25 SQM of concrete tiles for a back garden! (plus the famous playhouse of course)

I can't believe how many new words DD's coming out with too so fab to feel like we're starting to communicate.
