Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

slick DS1 was FFed and born in the 2006 heatwave, we were advised to give him cooled boiled water as well as feeds as formula is more of a food than a drink.

fearless don't look at me, Virgin dropped out last night so no TV or internet! Woe! Went to bed at 9,30 instead so at least I got a rest.

Gabe's eye is still all red but he did try to give me a smile today, so think he's on the mend. Am attempting to use the Revelo buggypod (sort of a sidecar for Gabe that goes on the side of DS1's Major buggy) today, will post pics!

Gabe is finally too tall for my sling, DH couldn't understand why I'd want to be able to get to the shops seeing as we have an online Tesco order. Erm, who do you think buys all his and the kids' clothes?!

lolianja · 31/05/2009 12:40

@laumiere - that's so sweet and helpful of you, I might just do that. I guess my CV could probably do with a complete overhaul tidy.

Thanks for all the support guys, it means a lot to me. I think in the long run it's probably a good thing I screwed it up - it's such a long way to be commuting everyday when I'm a) pregnant and b) have a small baby. I'm now hunting for jobs in the vicinity.

James appears to have finally cut that bloody tooth! Yay!

laumiere · 31/05/2009 20:19

loli Not a problem, us March mums have to stick together!

Revelo trial went well, about 6 people asked me where I got it though....

lula I miss the perfect skin and that's it! If I could get babies without being pg it would be great....

grinningbee · 01/06/2009 10:36

I need a dead on feet emoticon!

My little darling had a good sleep during the evening, and woke about 11pm for nappy change and feed which coincided with us going to bed. She got to sleep around 12, to wake again at 3.10 ..... and was still flaming well awake 2 hours later!!

She decided to have an arm and leg waving session, would not be settled, and if you tried to hold her still she got really angry!

Ah well.

We saw our friend in hospital on Saturday. He's opposite a man with alzheimers - we're having a coffee and our friend says to his wife (referring to the man opposite) "if I ever get like that, shoot me"

I think I was the only one to pick up on the comment...

His poor wife is in bits, and won't tell her family what's happened. I said she should to get some support. Understandably she isn't sure if she can carry on being with him for the fear of saying the wrong thing and him doing it again. To make matters worse, he could be released today. I would have thought he'd be in for longer.

Anyway. Enough depressing talk! It's a busy week, and hopefully the sun will keep shining

We've both got our 8 week check ups and also the jabs (eeeek emoticon) and also some pub training. We're looking after a pub for a few days starting on Sunday! Should be a laugh... Have we ever done anything like it before? Nope. Are we mad? Quite possibly!

grinningbee · 01/06/2009 10:45

Oh, and Lulabellarama yes, I miss having bump. Still, I'm hoping that by the end of the year there'll be another one.

laumiere · 01/06/2009 10:46

grinning with you there! Luckily for me lovely DH came in from his night shift and took both kids for an hour so I could get more sleep.

Hoping to take the boys to the park today, fingers crossed!

laumiere · 01/06/2009 10:47

Also submitted my extension to maternity leave for work, am now officially on leave til Jan 2010.

Wheelybug · 01/06/2009 11:56

Grinning - with you there on the 'dead on feet'. L's cough has got worse and last night went to bed at 9.30. Was up at 10.30, 12 (until 2.30), 4, 5 and then had to get up at 7.30. Went back to docs this morning - only to have it confirmed it is still 'only a virus'. Sobbed all over gp who was lovely and assured me she isn't choking and it will get better. My Mum is on her way to come and stay for a couple of nights so that I might be able to catch up on sleep in the day a bit. But first, need to take dd1 to her swimming lesson... Arrrghhh.

Well done to the babies who are sleeping well. I think poor L would be doing fine if it wasn't for this cough as she doesn't always feed every time she is awake so hopefgully once she's over this... although that might just be blind optimism getting me through !

Grinning - how worrying abut your friend and his poor wife.
Good luck with the pub (gosh I could do with a drink - whereabouts is it ? ).

Lula - I soooo don't miss being pregnant. But then, I really don't enjoy being pregnant. I find it excessively stressful. Good job probably because there's not much chance of me being pregnant again .

Right sorry to anyone I've missed that I shouldn't have done - brain is mushy and L is coughing and crying...

lolianja · 01/06/2009 13:20

Guess who's just been offered a job? I'm in total shock.

Ironically, minutes previously I'd managed to persuade myself that 3 days a week away from my baby drowning under a mountain of paperwork a hundred miles away (whilst pregnant) was a terrible, shoddy, shite idea. And then the phone went. I guess the competition must just have been really bloody bad.

I do at least have a week to ease James into daycare, get some work clothes sorted, buy the season ticket (gulp) etc. He has his booster jabs on Wednesday which I'm not looking forward to.

CV's still poo though so I will probably take you up on your (incredibly kind) offer at some stage laumiere!

jollyjoanne · 01/06/2009 13:25

Loli congrats on James' tooth. Although I suppose this means the start of many more. I really hadn't realised babies got teeth so early so I suppose it just shows how differently they develop.

I'm very smug this morning as Mae slept through till 6am from about 10.30 ish last night (I know I'll be punished tonight for boasting). Sadly I couldn't sleep at all as I was so blooming hot. Serves me right for spending several hours in the sun during the day my poor skin is sooooooo pale it just doesn't cope!

Lula I didn't mind being pregnant but I am not really missing it. Near the end it definitely felt like a bit of a chore.

Lula I liked the wedding venue, when are you thinking of getting married?

Grinning hope you are starting to feel a bit better and manage to catch up on a little bit of sleep during the day. Hope your 8wk checks go Ok. And the same for the pub training. I worked in a pub whilst I was student and really enjoyed it although you do seem to always have one weird regular.

Laumiere I still plan to go back in Sept becos I can't afford to be off any longer but I really wish I could be off longer as I'm really not sure either of us will be ready when she's only 6 months old. On the other hand I have managed to get them to agree to part time at least for a few months when I go back.

Grinning I am trying to decide when would be best to have another child. I would definitely like another one and this pregnancy has done nothing to put me off, but on the other hand twins run in my family and I am not as brave as Loli. On the other hand I don't really want a massive gap (there is 18 years between my DH and his youngest sister). DH says he isn't ready yet so no immediate rush but I do keep thinking about it.

Gosh sorry for the really long post and for all the me me me bits.

Oh but whilst I remember Mae got weighed this morning and now weighs an impressive 12lbs at 12 wks this is nearly back to average. Not sure if I will bother with the weighing again though.

jollyjoanne · 01/06/2009 13:27

Congrats on the job Loli!

OP posts:
laweaselmys · 01/06/2009 15:45

loli Yay for the job! I hope it works out for you. Maybe you could keep looking for local jobs and if you find something else and hate the commute you could always ditch it and switch. Sounds like you are more employable than you think you are anyway!! Also congrats on the tooth that must be a big relief.

Slick I do remember your accident, gosh it must have been so much worse for you. I'm starting to think you have to really witness/be involved in something like that to understand how awful it is though. The amount of people that sped past us helping our friend get out of his car was terrible.

grinning could your friend's wife speak to MIND? They should be able to talk her through things and get her advice. He sounds like he could do with some inpatient mental health treatment, it is available on the NHS but she may have to be insistent about it, they always try care in the community first which seems to have very little effect IME. It is one of those silly catch 22s where they can't offer the more expensive help unless his behaviour becomes really dire, even though if they had the more expensive help more quickly they might not even get that bad!

laumiere and others thinking about jobs, I have pushed my ML back to mid-November already (the last week I would get any money) but I don't know what to do after that. I love my job, but at the moment I can't stand the idea of leaving DD. I guess we shall just have to wait and see what happens. I think maybe if I can find a really excellent child minder I will feel better about the situation as well, but I'm not really sure when to start looking.

laweaselmys · 01/06/2009 15:47

Also, Molly has been sleeping through fantastically (I know we are really really lucky) not waking up between 8.30pm and 7.00ish am, but yesterday I had a few drinks at our BBQ and she was up till nearly midnight. It's a good motivation not to over indulge while she is still on the boob!

grinningbee · 01/06/2009 16:15

Congrats on the job Loli!

Wheely The pub is near Newark in Nottinghamshire. If you're over that way between Sunday night and Wednesday I'm sure Dh will provide drinkies It's our old local pub (although we still use it now we've moved) so we know most folks.

I could upset them while we're in residence by bf'ing in front of them. We've been sat in there before with another couple who have a new baby when a couple of old chaps walked in and disgustidly exclaimed they didn't know they were walking into a kindergarten...

Law Thanks for the tip re Mind. I'll mention that. I had a phone call just now to say he was released at mid day, and just has to see his doctor tomorrow and that's it! He was left sitting outside for an hour before his wife could get to pick him up...

laumiere · 01/06/2009 19:47

Yay lolli! I'll get my pom-poms....

In other news, I've got Gabriel's conjunctivitis. Poo....

Slickbird · 01/06/2009 22:41

[Grin] LOL Loli I told you you'd get it!! I bet they thought you were ace. Although it does sound like it's going to all be quite a lot to do, so make sure you look after yourself. Do they know you are pg again?

Wheely Oh how disappointing that the cough isn't better yet. I really hope you get more sleep tonight and am sending you lots of sleepy vibes. (Where's 3Cute when you need her??) (In fact, REALLY, where is 3Cute? - Come back, we miss you!)

Law I cannot believe that so many people were driving past you and not stopping to help! What's the matter with people?!

Grinning I hope your friend gets all the help he needs. My DH is actually a mental health support worker, I must ask him what his experience is of this situation. (He doesn't work in a hosptial).

Lula I can't express how much I do NOT miss being pregnant - but two in 18 months will do that to you!

The ONLY thing I miss is that my tash seemed to stop growing. (OK,I'm not exactly Tom Sellick and you'd have to get up close, but I notice it and it def stops whilst pg. Also skin better then. Also, no periods and no PMT. Ok, I guess there are some things I miss....)

While today was lovely and hot, I didn't really enjoy it as the two wee ones were just really struggling in the heat, getting fractious and I was so worried about them over heating when I had to put them in the car to go and collect DD1. It was awful, DD2 was hysterical and getting hotter and then I had to force her into a warm car seat, I felt so awful doing it. Then in the rush of her screaming and trying to get FB in the car, I got his foot stuck between the handle and the strap and it twisted a bit and he was screaming and then I was just about crying at that point, feeling even more like a bad mum, still worrying that DD2 was overheating and just desperately wanting to get the car going so I could get the fan on and the air through the windows! (Again) I had left the windows open for ages before that too, but it was still like an oven.

So, when it cools down on Wed, I think I'll be quite glad just for them to have a bit of a break - they're just not used to sudden hot temps.

lula The advice on the BF thread is that small babies don't absorb water very well and it's better if you drink more water to keep up with him.

Well it is is The Perfect Day for the laumiere household. Early morning cuddles with the babies, breakfast cooked by sexy husband, and now enjoying the gorgeous weather and listening to the radio....

Slickbird · 02/06/2009 10:20

You have a sexy husband??

laumiere · 02/06/2009 15:37

slick Yep, 6ft 2 with a lilting Welsh accent, brown eyes and a wicked grin. And he can sing, cook and clean too! (Is proud of Mr. Laumiere). I did good there

Loving the weather too, hoping the reports are wrong and that we'll carry on getting lovely sun!

Yarnie · 02/06/2009 16:40

Hi all - I went to mother and baby yoga (laid on for free by the local authority) and it was great! Spike really enjoyed it and, importantly, it wore him out a little bit so that he has had really good day time naps. He has been very bad at napping during the day, so I might try and do some yoga with him every day. Just my tip for any other mamas of poor day nappers .

Slickbird · 02/06/2009 19:37

Laumiere You sure did! Mine is Welsh too, is excellent guitarist, cooks and cleans too, but is only 5ft 7. Ahh bless. Always the last to know when it's raining.

meep · 03/06/2009 07:09

Morning all!

Well I survived my long weekend without dh - both girls are still in one piece and I still have my sanity! I have to say that the thought of it was worse than the actuality. The ony bad times are when they are both howling at the same time. I suppose I've been lucky with Rosie's sleeping so i've not been too tired - exhausted from running around with the 2 of them all day, but at least not sleep deprived!

I am still denouncing dreamfeeding. She slept from 6.30pm until 5.40am last night - I am amazed - I had though dd1 was a reasonable sleeper. The only thing is I know not to count my chickens as so many babies who sleep well turn into little horrors as they get older/get teeth!

slick talking of rain (I'm only 5ft so it has to be a heavy downpour for me to get wet - all you tall people shelter me !)- it's looking a bit cooler out there today. I have to say that I love the sun, but it was just too hot for the lo's. Our bedrooms are in the converted roof space of an old house and it was 29 degrees up there for most of the night - eek! For all of those who worry about temp can you imagine how stressed it made me!

lula I've not been giving Rosie any extra water - she has seemed to be happy just guzzling milk all day. Your wedding venue looks fab - that hall is so light, it will be gorgeous. Right - now we need pics of your dress, bridesmaids etc (did I say that I like a good wedding

grinning what an awful thing for your friend and her dh - I hope they get it sorted out.

slick my tash, legs hair and eyebrows stopped growing when I was pregnant! But conversely all the hair seemed to reappear on my tummy - I was and am still a right little ewok!

But I got my first handful of hair when I was washing it yesterday - so the great hair loss will be starting soon - boo.

loli congrats - you are officially supermum!

wheely hope L's cough is improving and that you are getting some sleep .

jolly I keep forgetting to get Rosie weighed - I haven't been chased by the HV for a while - but I know dh likes me to go (he is a worrier) so I must go to the clinic next week.

law I have been trying to help Rosie find her thump thumb - but it looks like she may be a finger sucker instead!

yarnie I like the sound of the baby yoga - I always meant to do it with dd1 but never got round to it.

Hope I've caught up with everyone's news. Dd1 is going to nursery today - dh is looking after Rosie and I am out to get my hair cut and have a bit of time to myself! lovely!
