Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

slick you are a brave woman - I have still not given dd1 any apple (unless grated) due to stories on here - I am totally pfb about it . AND I cut my grapes in half !

No news from my friend - she's overdue and has had 2 sweeps - and had contractions on and off since early Wed morning. Think they may have kicked in yesterday as she had gone from "this is okay" to "v sore, I love my Tens machine"! I remember with dd1 when mine started thinking "what on earth is all the fuss about - this doesn't really hurt" .............. ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! But I have been very good and restrained and not made any comments about how awful it may get - I only asked if she'd started moo-ing yet - hee hee!

slick at least solids are cheaper than formula - I am still at how much it costs now - £3 more than with dd1! Impressed at FB's weight gain - and his marathon sleep - hope you slept the whole time too?!

wheely - poor wee L - I hate coughing/choking in little ones. It sounds so sore and I would have lost the plot too.

In fact I did yesterday.

I was at a garden centre for a coffee with dd1 and Rosie and was standing waiting for the baby change loo to be free. Dd1 was standing right beside me - for once not mucking about, just standing chattering to me. This doddery old man comes round the corner and bumps into her. She is such a little thing that he sent her flying and she smacked head first into the wall and crumpled onto the floor.

Thankfully she started wailing almost instantly. The old man just looked shocked and I just grabbed both girls and locked us all in the toilet and hugged dd1 until she calmed down.

Had to stop at my folks house on the way home to a) have a cry and b) get reassurance that dd1 was okay. I have to admit that I was on the verge of a total melt down.

dd1 spent the rest of the day saying "man, bump, hurt Emmy head. Oh dear"

Some days I get so tearful about everything. Worse when I am tired and when I haven't had a proper adult conversation for a while. Having had what I now realise was mild pnd with dd1 I know I am not in that place this time - but I do worry about it happening again.

So hugs to you wheely loli can I just say hats off to you for even going to the job interview so soon after having a baby!

laumiere that is so lovely about Michael - it must have melted your heart.

Right - off to get myself sorted for the day - at last the sun is properly shining and I need to hose down the garden furniture so I can catch some rays

laumiere · 29/05/2009 09:46

meep poor you and your LO! Totally understandable to melt down I think.

And re: Michael, yep melting hearts a go go! Attempting to meet another mum from nursery at the park today with both kids, wish me luck!

grinningbee · 29/05/2009 11:40

Loli I'm afraid I had a little giggle, but I reckon you're superwoman for going for an interview so soon and being pg again!

Wheely the choking thing scares me shitless too. I watch Amy like a hawk when she's coughing or splutters on her milk. Lord knows what I'll be like when she's eating solid food!

My baby brain moment yesterday - wanted to pick up the keys to go out... so why did I find myself holding a packet of tissues instead?

Speaking of brains - I need to pick the collective ones again. I'm finding that Amy gets a very hot back in her carseat, to the point of being damp when I get her out after only being in for say half an hour when it's warm. Is there anything I can put in it to help?

I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring. You may or may not remember I went to Scotland for a wedding two weeks ago. We were supposed to be going out with the happy couple tonight for dinner, but dh had our friend on the phone earlier crying her heart out to say her hubby was rushed into hospital earlier and I'm waiting to find out what's wrong. I'm hoping like mad that it's nothing serious.

I shall now attempt to make some tea and toast, if madame will allow me to! (it's not looking good - she's going red in the face!!!)

grinningbee · 29/05/2009 13:24

Update:

Just had some completely shocking news. Mentioned my friend in my last post, the one who just got married?

He tried to kill himself.

I was sat with him yesterday evening in the pub and he seemed fine. Must say it's brought back some horrible feelings as my mum did manage it.

I just can't imagine how his new wife is feeling. Dh is trying to find her to see if she's ok.

I can't believe it.

jollyjoanne · 29/05/2009 13:41

Oh Grinning thats awful I hope they are both Ok and that things improve.

Loli big respect to you! I am sure it wasn't anywhere near as bad as you believe!

Laumiere how cute, I bet you are a little smug that he can say mummy! I can't wait till the current March babies are starting chatting so we can compare first words.

Wheely hope your little one is feeling better and that the cough is clearing.

I also have the same problem re-sweaty baby when she is in the car seat.

jollyjoanne · 29/05/2009 13:43

Also can I just ask how often are the rest of you getting your babies weighed? Mae hasn't been weighed since she was 6 weeks and she is nearly now 12wks.

OP posts:
grinningbee · 29/05/2009 13:56

Thanks Jolly

Amy was weighed last week (6 weeks and a bit) and now will only get weighed if I go to the monthly baby clinic.

Wheelybug · 29/05/2009 14:30

Thanks for kind words everyone - I'm feeling much better now, although still exhausted as L has gone back to waking 2 hourly in the night, presumably due to cough etc. But feel more in control so assume it was just tiredness etc. I don't think I've helped matters this week as its half term and I booked it up with stuff solid so I think both dd1 and I are finishing it more tired than we started. Oops.

Grinning - how awful about your friend. Hope he is ok and his wife and you.

Meep - am not surprised re melt down and dd1. I get a bit paranoid about heads too although dd1 has always been very very good at hitting her head on things - seems to be one of her talents (She even went to her christening at 10 months with a black eye !). On the subject of formula, I thought I must have forgotten how expensive it was since I bought it for dd1 as I was shocked at the price.

Slick - well FB is the complete end of the spectrum to some of our teeny weedy girls eh. They can't all be average can they !

Joanne - L was weighed at 1 day short of 8 weeks and I have just made an appt to get her weighed when she will be one day short of 13 weeks. I could go more frequently as we have a weekly walk in clinic but quite frankly, can't be arsed.

Yarnie · 29/05/2009 15:03

Grinning That is awful. What terrible news to hear. I'm sorry it brings back difficult memories.

Jolly Spike is 10 weeks and we don't go to the HV except for vaccs. We went once but all they seem to do is weigh him and we can do that ourselves. We weigh him every other week and note it in our red book, so the surgery can see his progress when we go for vaccs or to see the doctor, etc.

Slick we have a Bumbo and I can't wait until Spike can hold his head up properly and use it. He seems quite an independent sort and gets tired of us holding him, but likes to be upright, so I expect it will suit him. I hope it helps with FB's flat head.

HELLOO!!

Just came to say I am alive. I've just been stupidly busy. Bit of advice though, drive slow on country roads... a friend was following us in his car away from a party last weekend and he flipped his car into a ditch. He was only going 45, totally sober not playing with his phone raido etc! Was a huge shock, but he's totally okay thank god for seat belts. His car was absolutely destroyed though.

re: my lump, erm. I forgot to ask the doctor about it. (Baby brain sucks) But I will ring and ask them about it next week now you have reminded me, since it's still there. I'm sure it's nothing but 'tis always worth checking these things.
Amusingly post Mols having her jabs she was totally fine and I came down with a really bad fever. How odd is that?

Molly is a mahoosive thump sucker and it is really helping. She sleeps through from 9.30 'til we get her up at half seven which is fantastic but I think a lot of it is to do with her waking up and being able to suck on something to go back down. (really noisy if you are a light sleeper but a lot less so than crying obviously) Bit of a sneaky thing but her great grandma was putting her thumb in her mouth for her when she was fussing and couldn't find her hand, which works quite well too.
On the other hand she has no concept of napping in the day. She'll fall asleep on the boob but then not sleep more than a half hour or so and then scream miserably. So I get stuck in a feeding cycle if she is really tired.

She hates tummy time too, but I will try the lying down with her thing and she if that helps. Thinking about it she didn't mind it so much when I did it at babygroup and she had other babies to look at.

loli Don't worry. I have said silly things in interviews and got the job, so you might be lucky! It must be really stressful and you sound like you are doing really well.

laweaselmys · 29/05/2009 18:53

thump! *thump urgh.

On the topic of baby brain, I went to book an eye test the other day and when the assistant asked me what my name was I just stood there going errrr...

skimmed the list and saw a discussing of post-baby clothes. I have to admit I have cleared out my entire wardrobe and chucked/charitied everything that doesn't fit or looks odd because I'm just not the same shape/size I was before. I had a very very limited wardrobe for a few days but have been slowly scouring sales and buying new things and I feel so much better about my appearance having been feeling very spotty and pudgy. No gym for me as I am not allowed to lose weight though.

laumiere · 29/05/2009 19:22

law Yep here with the spots too!

jolly I never bother with weigh-ins, just check G periodically on the scales at home.

I am feeling sorry for Gabriel, after a trip to the doctor's (he was very screamy and uncomfortable, and was refusing the breast) apparently the poor babe has conjuntivitis AND a viral infection

Slickbird · 29/05/2009 21:30

OK, there's been a lot happening with y'all, so here goes!

Star & Yarni - thanks for advice on the reflux, I would say that FB def doesn't have that. Maybe just taking too much - wouldn't surprise me!

Laumiere I missed your post that Michael had said Mummy! How wonderful! He really seems to be coming on recently with all these new developemtns. Must make you so proud.
Hope Gabe feels better soon tho, it's horrible when they have something like this when they are so wee.

Meep Good thinking batman! Why didn't I think of grated apple?! I also cut her grapes in half.

Poor DD1! What a wee shame! I get teary after a shock like that if they've had an accident or been ill or rushed to hospital or something cos you feel really depressed after it. You just want them to be happy and well.

Was thinking about your 4am and 5am starts. Is it worth trying "Loshie" on blue sma or whatever she's on? Just wondered as it helped FB settle for longer. Mind, you might have her on that already?

Grinning Urgh, how bloody awful for you all. And God know's how that must make his new bride feel. And such a shock if you just saw him the night before. Hope he recovers and gets the help he needs.

Re: Backseat heat (if your thoughts are still on that) I'm super-paranoid about that too and a few times I've lifted FB he's been the same, bit sweaty. Apart form keeping windows open and having the cool fan on (while I sit there in a hat and scarf ) I take his socks off as I know this can make a big difference. Worth a shot? Maybe you've done that already?

Jolly I've always just gotten them weighed when I've felt like it. I think you can look at your bairn and think, aye they look ok! Then go do something else, if not go in. I'm lucky that I can just do it out of curiosity, whereas my friend struggled to get her wee one's weight up so obviously, that's different.

Law Here we all are, worrying about YOUR lump and you've forgotten all about it! LOL also about forgetting your own name!

Re: accident, I can relate to that totally as you may all remember that DH flipped the car over on our country road with DD2 in it in January. Thankfully they were ok. But yes, VERY scary how easily it can happen.

Well, today was beautiful and my kids and neighbours were all in the paddling pool (with a slide going into it!) so DD2 had her first paddling pool experience which included, a lot of screaming, a lot of shivering and drinking half the pool as she got swamped by the older ones! She's shattered tonight. So am I mind, as I constantly guarded her from swamping, drowning and choking on another bloody apple (which had been submerged and was now covered in grass...Mmm, nice).

Anyway, had a radical haircut and feel like new woman. DH likes it. DD1 does NOT! But she has a pathalogical fear of short hair after DH took her for a really bad haircut when she was 6! Oh well, she'll get used to it. (She said, sticking her chin up in the air defiantly)

Slickbird · 29/05/2009 21:32

NB, Screaming in a GOOD way!

meep · 30/05/2009 08:05

, Rosie slept for around 9 hours last night! Put her down at about 7pm and she was fossicking about making little squeaks and grunts until 8pm when she finally went into deep sleep land. Then she woke at 4am - gave her a bottle and she then slept till 7am when awoken by poo!

Of course I woke up hourly from about 11pm expecting to be summoned to provide milk so am actually shattered this morning!

So - sll this dream feeding malarky at 11pm onbviously doesn't make much difference if she wakes up at 4am anyway !

We will see if the pattern repeats - and if so i will publicly denounce dream feeding

Haven't had time to read all you posts ladies - will come back once I have more time - just had to post quickly because I am so astounded!

laumiere · 30/05/2009 09:30

meep I think dream feeds are crap too

slick Thank god for Calpol is all I can say...

Well it's day FOUR of me trying to post my CV ad in MN. So far have been passed to tech twice. Very fed up.

In other news, doc said I was to give Gabe water yesterday in our appt. I'm sure you aren't supposed to give water to BF babies, right? Mind you he also claimed that wet nappies were the cause of eczema, so what does he know? Popping over to the BF trhead to ask them.

meep · 30/05/2009 15:48

grinning what a horrible thing to happen, how awful for everyone

slick we're back to parallel lives again - I am booked to have my hair chopped next week - at least 4 inches will be coming off!

Will hold off on the hungry baby milk for Rosie now that I know she can sleep for 9 hours straight! TBH I think she just wakes up around this time naturally and it will gradualy get later until she starts the day at a sensible hour. Even though I'm up with her at 4/5am, she does go back to sleep for a couple of hours - but I find that if I do the same I feel worse, so I just start the day early and have some quiet time to myself!

Just heard that my friend had her baby this morning but her lo is in neo-natal due to breathing problems at birth - am so happy but sad for her - I don't know how bad it is but am keeping my fingers crossed.

meep · 30/05/2009 15:49

wet nappies cause excema !

I am sure neither bf nor ff babies need any water as milk is enough - daft doc!

Laumiere What a load of crap! Exzema is not caused by wet nappies! A sore botty maybe but not exzema!

Meep I swear, if we ever meet up it'll be like looking in a mirror! (You poor thing!)

Funnily enough re: water, I certainly don't think that BF babies need water, but today as it was so hot (and stunningly beautiful out here) FB was struggling to take his bottle and I did give him a couple of oz of cooled boiled water which he seemed to find easier to take. But then by bed time he was starvin as he had missed out a bit!

We had a fab day today in the paddlin' pool and the garden (are v. v. lucky, have 2/3rds Acre and is like a wildlife haven - house isn't that special but the garden makes up for it) and then we had a bbq with neighbours and it was just one of those days that made you so glad to be alive!

Tempered by DD2 going to sleep and then waking fifteen mins ago with a massive screaming fit - we think she was in teething pain, she's getting the last of her molars in - and she was hysterical, writhing and inconsolable and we couldn't work out what was wrong at first, but we managed to get nurofen down her neck and she calmed down. But I was in tears by the time she stopped as it was just awful. Like I said last night, HATE anything being wrong with the kids.

Anyway, hope you're all ok.

meep · 31/05/2009 06:56

I am publicly denouncing dreamfeeding .

Rosie slept from 7pm until 4.30am!
