Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Can i pop in looking for a bit of sympathy? Sam seems to have forgotten how to sleep...Had a rotten night last night - after an evening where both little ones went into complete meltdown at the same time (his sis cos she though it was unfair she wasn't allowed to wear her favourite jumper in the bath). Evenings round here are not easy at the moment.
It has taken a while to catch up with everyones news, but it really is great to have found you all to see that Im not alone - the sleeplessness, the fed-upness of still having to wear maternity clothes (although am my own worst enemy with the amount of rubbish i snack on...)
ohh got to go think thats a total outfit change not just nappy....

Slickbird · 05/05/2009 16:21

Oh Lolianja you poor thing I really sympathise. I hate morning sickness with a passion. So I don't know how you're coping with the sickness, sleepless nights and a newborne
Yes they can be teething this early - a lot of folk don't know that and think it only starts at 6 months but not true. My DD1 started at two months (can still take months for any tooth to actually appear, mind) and my friend who's a MW said that occasionally babies are actually BORN with teeth! But you have to be really careful as they can fall out - something to do with the roots developing to early.

Law That's how FB feeds almost all the time. I really don't know what it is, but he seems to cough and splutter his way through most feeds - it's on sometimes that he gets the circular breathing right and gets a good flow going. Odd, the other two were fine. I'm hoping he'll get better with age.

Slickbird · 05/05/2009 16:23

Apologies for typos am typing standing up and am under seige from all three....I'm a mother, get me outta here!!!

pintofstella · 05/05/2009 17:58

wheely I have a Quinny Buzz and am using the Dreami Carricot on it at the moment. It's fab and highly recommended IMHO.

My babe also wakes himself up at night farting. It was every 1-2 hours last night so I am knackered today.

He was weighed today and has put on 19oz in the last 13 days .

On a downer, I think I have mastitis in my right booby. It is bloody painful . Have got GP apt in the morning.

So far it's been:
Cracked and bleeding nipples
Thrush
Piles
Mastitis

Wonder what it'll be next week....

laumiere · 05/05/2009 18:51

lolli same here, Gabe is doing the exact same thing, though we were expecting it as DS1 teethed early. Try the homeopathic granules, they're great, look like baby crack though (white powder you rub on their gums).

Slickbird · 05/05/2009 22:59

I agree - Ashdon & Parson's teething powders (get in chemists) rock. Settles them and their stomachs as that can be upset too.

On the farting front I'm actually a little disappointed in Fat Boab as he rarely farts but I think that's because he's so good at burping very loudly!

The girls, however, were super tooters, esp DD1! I remember being amazed that they could make such a loud noise disproportionate to their size. Hee hee.

Am off to try and get some sleep. FB has his 8 week jabs tomorrow, hope he'll be ok.

meep · 06/05/2009 08:35

good luck boab (shame you're not quite old enough to get a choc button to console you)

well - Rosie is gaining weight fast so HV was happy even though I hadn't been at the baby clinic! She also did my depression test and I scored 3 - last time I scored 9 [eek]!!!

She also said that6 weeks is a classic growth spurt so that probably explains Rosie's feedathon and refusal to sleep in the last few days. Last night she was a text book baby, waking to feed then sleeping for 3-4 hours - bliss!

A&P teething powders are great - there is also a Boots one that is pretty good - much better than teething gel.

Right - off to see the GP to get me and Rosie checked over

laumiere · 06/05/2009 13:10

Well the doctor's was a bust, she was adamant that I can't go on the combined Pill while BFing (until Gabe is 6mo anyway). She did look it up in the Big Book of NHS Guidance and it was in there so I can't really argue. Getting the implant fitted instead.

Wheelybug · 06/05/2009 13:39

Hope Boab's jabs went ok - Lara has her in an hour - gulp... I have had to draft in MIL to come up and look after DD1 as she has her pre-school boosters coming up so I didn't want her to witness this beforehand... That means MIL is staying for a couple of days - yikes.

Loli - I can' timagine what being pregnant must be like with a baby this young - You must be shattered. But just think what great playmates they'll be in the end .

Thanks for the farting info . Its nice to know Lara isn't alone in her flatulence. I guess we just need to hope she grows out of it otherwise we'll never manage to marry her off .

Have HV 8 week check before the jabs - not quite sure what difference that is from the doctor check she had last week. Glad your depression test was better this time meep and hope your doc appointment went ok today.

Right off to the doctors' surgery (anyone else feel they're living there at the mo ?!) Then I have to take dd1 to the dentist - its all good fun around here .

meep · 06/05/2009 14:10

all clear from the doc - I can drive again - hooray (though my dh is dreading the petrol bill )!

wheely I got my scar checked and it is fine now - thank goodness - but I have a bit of a rash round it. She thought is was either fungal (eurgh) or ingrowing hairs! Lovely!

Is anyone else still suffering from nightsweats? Mine still appear at times though not as severely as when I was bf. Think it must be my hormones trying to adjust but reckon that is what might have caused my lovely fungal rash.

good luck too to Lara

I now have a prescription for the pill - though with 2 dd's under 2 I think that is the best contraceptive around . GP did suggest getting a coil fitted - anyone else have this - I don't know why but I keep thinking it will hurt? Am I being ridiculous?

lilymolly · 06/05/2009 14:39

Welcome pintofstella you sound like you have had similar problems to me regarding the bf- thrush, cracked nipples etc.
Are you healed yet? ds is now 5 weeks and I am still having a lot of pain in the right nipple, despite, treatment for thrush.

meep I too have these night sweart, and I put it down to breastfeeding, but I wake up soaking wet

Cant beleive you lot are all on about contraception

There is no way dp is coming near me every again esp now I have developed post natal piles

Oh can I be smug and just say that my little baby, is only waking up approx once at about 3am between 7pm-7am W

How the hell I got 2 sleepy babies, I will never know

Glad it all went well - other than the rash meep - it is such a relief when you can drive again although I'm trying to be good and still walk when I can.

My nightsweats seem to have gone - hadn't realised they had until you asked !!

Well, Lara's appointment was a waste of time. HV was ok - Lara is now a whopping 8 lbs 8 oz but they couldln't do her jabs as she is not 8 weeks until tomorrow and it was the surgery that scheduled her appointment - . So, back next week.

I was offered the coil meep although was told I'd have to go to a FPC to have it because I hadn't given birth vaginally. As it is, one of my friends has just had a surprise 3rd thanks to the mirena coil so am not going for it . That said, I haven't gone for anything other than abstinence and DH being in another room - its 100% effective .

Wheelybug · 06/05/2009 14:47

fearless - Lara mostly sleeps in motion - v. difficult to get her to nap at home. Mind you, DD1 gave up sleeping in the day at 18 months so guess I should expect it really. She's always slept quite well at night though.....

Lily - nice to see you. Although clearly I'm not talking to you with your sleepy baby . .

auntyspan - if you're lurking, how is the colief going ? My HV has just recommended using ita nd I think you said you were using it ??

meep · 06/05/2009 14:59

lily talking about contraception only came up because the doc "has" to mention it at the 6 week check. Can't imagine when dh and I will ever be awake enough/awake at the same time/ in a room with no dd1 or dd2 around/ remotely feeling up for it in the near future! ouch re the piles - though I would (almost) happily have them if I had a sleepy baby like yours!

fearless Rosie has refused to nap for the last wee while unless in motion. Today I just fed her, stuck her in her moses basket and she has been asleep for 2.5 hours - you think you have them sussed but they then fool you completely!

Elsy · 06/05/2009 15:15

Fearless F has given up napping at home too. She was fantastic for the first few weeks but now I'll spend half an hour getting her to sleep in the moses basket and she'll wake after 30 minutes. Then she'll sleep in the car when I take DD1 to nursery and refuse to wake up for hours until I finally get a chance for a sit down and she'll suddenly wake up. It's as if they sense Mummy's finally getting a bit of peace and quiet and decide to do something about it

We're planning to move F to the cot next week as she's getting too big for the basket. I'm not looking forward to it as we're going to be up and down the stairs a million times during the evening, when she wakes up every 15 minutes and has to be walked around in the sling to get her back to sleep.

meep · 06/05/2009 15:38

Elsy we're going to try leaving the moses basket upstairs tonight. Normally I have it downstairs until I go to bed - but tonight I am going for the double and getting both dd's upstairs in bed by 7.30pm - I think I may be being a tad ambitious though.............

Can anyone remeber how old/big they have to be before they go in a Grobag?

meep · 06/05/2009 15:40

just found the answer - from 7lbs - I think I will see if I can find any - might stop Rosie from kicking off all her covers when she has a farting fit

Starshinetiger · 06/05/2009 16:41

Have been browsing, but no chance to post - now posting one-handed, while feeding DD. Is very reassuring to read that you don't all have sleeping babies. DD is not settling before 11ish for any length of time, so no evening peace for me as yet. Think I'm going to have a concerted effort to get both in bed at same time tonight by introducing a routine - any tips anyone. Have to do it on my own most nights due to DH working lates.

V. envious of your sleeping baby Lily

my gp was promoting mirena to me - but am now totally scared off by your story Wheely!

Thanks Lulabellarama. Probably wrong time to be asking as you'll be getting things ready, but do you do bath as well? and do you have routine the rest of the day? DS is 2.5 and getting better at doing things for himself by the day!

Slickbird · 06/05/2009 18:29

Lol Meep! I've had a gro bag for FB from day one and really like them. I've used blankets as well, but the gro bags are just so handy eh?

Well FB had his jabs and let me tell you, he is one little hard nut! The HV was amazed.
First jab - little whimper, 2nd Jab (big needle right into the middle of the thigh "just to make sure") bit of a cry for about 20 seconds and that was it! I couldn't believe it, I was expecting him to go radio rental so much that I would be greetin' too, but nope, after a bit of soothing he was like he was thinking, "what was that that GRAZED my leg? Now, where's the milk...?"

Of course, he probably couldn't feel it for all that podge! He's just short of 14lbs. He's between the 91st and 98th centile for God's sake! BUT thankfully, the HV said he cant keep this up and he should level out soon (hopefully). He'll have to or we'll a second mortgage to keep him in Blue SMA. He did manage to sleep better last night so hopefully it's a sign of things to come, having said that, I don't know how he'll respond to his jags. Just hope the wee scone's ok with it and doesn't have any adverse reaction.

Slickbird · 06/05/2009 18:30

Meant to say Wheely how did you're LO get on?

laumiere · 06/05/2009 19:46

Slick glad it's not just me with a hi-UGE baby! Gabriel was 14lb at 9w, lord knows what he is now! On the plus side he's eaten all my baby weight.

fearless can't get in my acc at the mo, will send out sling as soon as I'm able.

lilymolly · 07/05/2009 09:50
