Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

Thanks meep. George was awake all morning but has been asleep since lunchtime apart from a 20 minute feed. This does not bode well for the night ahead .

Off to the HV tomorrow to have him weighed.

fearless I can send you a jersey wrap sling if you want? I have a spare and Gabriel loves it, goes to sleep in about 3 min and you never need worry about coats etc as your body heat keeps them warm.

Wheelybug · 04/05/2009 20:17

fearless - its a close sling - Meep has one too. Its very easy to use although Lara only seems to like it when she's sleepy. Mind you, I have a wilkinet too and she wouldn't go in that for love or money so the Close is an improvement. It also gets lots of comments.

I hired one from here first for 2 weeks. They do others too www.slingjax.co.uk/pages/terms.php or I'd be tempted to take up Laumieres offer even if its just to try it. After my disaster with the wilkinet I wouldn't buy one without trying it first.

On the subject of products - what pram/buggy do people have and do you like it - those with single ones? I have a pliko pramette from dd1 and I hate it. Don't remember hating it first time round but the wheels are rubbish. I'm only going to use it in pram mode as I like the fact it lies flat. I have also been given an out and about nipper but it has a fixed front wheel so not sure if that will annoy me. DH says we are categorically NOT buying a new buggy/pram until we buy a new lightweight one but am sure I could persuade him if I had a good recommendation.

I think I want air tyres and I'm short if that helps.

I have a Graco mosaic but not for any reason other than it fits in the car (I have a tiny car / boot) and so far it seems fine - folds really small / has a car seat bi and steers OK.

On the farting subject Mae's are really impressive but I think the wind wakes her up before the farting actually occurs. And she can also burp pretty damn impressively as well.

On the subject of the pill I've gone back on the combined pill rather than the mini pill so no break-through bleeding and no other side effects at present - this is what I was on before getting pregnant so I am used to it.

Oh and in case anyone cares at all I have put on a photo of Mae at 8 weeks, sadly couldn't catch her while she was smiling.

jolly are you breastfeeding too?

fearless not a problem, I made 3 when G was born but he's growing tall very fast so will need to upgrade to something else. Email me on [email protected] with your address.

Wheelybug · 04/05/2009 21:44

gorgeous photo joanne.

Thanks joanne and fearless on the buggies. I think we might try and make do with one of two we have until Lara's big enough to be comfy in a maclaren. We had a triumph for dd1 when she was 8 months and she didn't really like it until she was over 1. Maybe the quest would be better or maybe even wondering if the techno may be the answer in a few months.

Slickbird · 04/05/2009 22:05

Evenin' All.

Joanne your bubba's lovely! She looks so tiny and cute in that big cot!

NEWSFLASH - "Fat Boab has one feed through the night - SHOCKER".

Yip, He slept from 9.15 til 1am - fed and then slept til 6.30am. Unheard of thus far! I'm hoping for a repeat performance tonight but I'll not hold my breath. He spent pretty much the whole day awake and is only just going to sleep now so hopefully that will bode well.

My best friend had a wee baby boy last night (her second) she had to be induced as she was 16 days late, I don't know many details yet, but I think she's just glad he's out! A wee pal for FB to grow up with

I have a Wilkinet too from 8 years ago and I never liked the bloody thing either. I had one from DD2 that just clipped on and I can't find it. I tried to use the Wilkinet today - was going to take them out for a walk - had DD2 all ready with her coat and wellies on, then I was negotiating a crying FB into this Wilkinet and couldn't work it, my eldest and her pal were winding DD2 up and before I knew it I had to change FB as he'd leaked out of his nappy and then by the time I'd done that, DD2 had her wellies off, got her sorted again, attempted to get FB back in the sling only to then discover it was PISSING down outside. Right! Wellies off! Coat off! Sod it, sod it, sod it!

Meanwhile, DD2 is shouting, "Walk! walk!" I had to placate her with some raisins and milk. She must wonder what the bloody hell adults are up to sometimes....

Re: contraception. Simple for me. He's not getting anywhere near me until he has had the chop snip.

meep · 05/05/2009 08:39

slick you stole all my sleepy vibes ! Hooray for Boab and his mammoth sleep. Boo to Rosie the miraculous non-sleeping baby! After being awake all day she finally crashed out at 9.30pm then had a rubbish night's sleep waking about every 2 hours - ugh

fealess Rosie was just like Patrick but now seems to have decided that staying awake is her thing at the moment ! So I wouldn't worry - enjoy your sleepy time while it lasts!

Prams - I have a bugaboo - yup with my pfb I decided I had to spend a small fortune on a pram. I have to say that I love it as a pram but not as a buggy so will be selling it once Rosie is out of the pram stage. I also have a double mahoosive 3 wheeler like this. And I have a McLaren Techno! The techno lies flat so I can use it for Rosie too if need be.

We thought dd1 had chickenpox last night (she was exposed recently) - she had little crops of spots - but they have disappeared overnight. Anyone know if they can come back again (please say no!)? I think part of my bad night's sleep was worrying about her - and she did have a little wake up at 1am - all I could hear over the monitor was "oh dear, lala, oh lala, oh lala, oh mummy" !

Slickbird · 05/05/2009 08:52

Meep - Well I reckoned you had the sleepy vibes last night coz they weren't really here!

I stupidly thought I'd stay awake for the 1am feed and by 2am he was still grunting sleepily, so I changed his nappy and made a bottle convinced he'd waken and all he did was cough and splutter his way through an ounce and then go to sleep again. So I lay there waiting for him to wake again, which he did at 3.15 and then told DH he could take over and I went to sleep on the fold down bed. DH then reported at 7.30am that the wee monkey had been awake at 6ish for a feed. BAH!

He just likes to keep us guessing.

Re: Chicken pox - I'm not aware of them coming and going like that, maybe it was a heat rash of some description? With DD1 when she had them, they came on very quickly and ferociously so that's my only experience. I won't go into the detail of that weekend, but suffice it to say, it wasn't one of the best.

Re: bedtime ramblings of LO's - I love the stuff they come out with, at the moment, when we ask DD2 to say; 'hoover' she says; "Hoo-hah" It's so damn cute. I could do with taking the hoo-hah round our house today...
I'm too tired to face another 20 hour day....

I've often thought that the soundtrack to my daily life would be "The flight of the bumblebee'

Wheelybug · 05/05/2009 09:44

I don't think the pox comes and goes either. DD1 kept coming into contact with it before she got it and I'd be convinced she had it. When she did get it, it was obvious from the spots even though she only had 3 for the first 24 hours as they were like little blisters and v. isolated - 1 on chest, 1 in armpit and 1 on back. Fingers crossed it doesn't come your way yet !

meep · 05/05/2009 11:33

thanks wheely & slick - dd1 is very chirpy so I reckon it was a false alarm - phew (though I am sure it will happen eventually - just would be nice to wait until Rosie is a bit older!).

Rosie is still fighting sleep today - think she may now be settled though she starts fossicking every 10 mins or so - sigh!

laweaselmys · 05/05/2009 11:53

Wheely I have a 2nd hand Silvercross 3D I got lent by a friend that I just use for the pram bit and so will be getting rid of in a few months time. (too heavy and awkward)

I also have a Silvercross Pop which is a bit like the McLaren Techno but I found it cheaper, lighter and a bit easier to fold. On the negative side the hood bit doesn't come out as far, so I'm currently scouting for some kind of sun shade to go with it. It also supposedly lies flat but I have yet to see it do this, I put DD in it anyway because she spends most of her time slumped in that upright position asleep on me anyway so I'm not sure why doing that in a pushchair would be any worse for her back.

I think all silvercross' have solid tyres as well. (I'm not sure why I have 2 that are the same brand! It wasn't intentional...)

laweaselmys · 05/05/2009 12:24

Okay Mols has just thrown up quite a bit of totally clear vomit. Anyone had this? Seems a bit odd.

meep · 05/05/2009 12:27

has she got a cold law? Could be gunk from that?

Wheelybug · 05/05/2009 12:28

quite early on lara threw up some clear vomit - she was quite bunged up. Could this be it ?

laweaselmys · 05/05/2009 12:32

She has been coughing a fair bit, although no more sneezy than usual. Sounds like a cold coming then! Thanks.

Wheelybug · 05/05/2009 12:52

Probably phlegm (is that how you spell it ?) then Law - hope she's ok.

Had 2 glasses of wine last night and not much sleep so feel like I've been hit by a bulldozer today. Did get round tesco earlier - Lara snoozed all the way round thankfully. Trying to get her back off now so I can snooze as dd1 is at a friends after nursery. Of course, she's happy swinging in her chair definitely NOT going to sleep. Am going to go and scoff whilst she's still awake....

jollyjoanne · 05/05/2009 12:56

Laumiere - yes I am still breastfeeding but thought it safer to go back on the pill anyway don't think I could cope with 2 little ones quite so close together.

Slick and Meep I think that Mae may have taken the sleepy vibes last night she was fed at 10ish fell asleep at about 11pm and slept through till 5am! I nearly died of shock when I looked at the clock. However, she then had two mammoth feeds so I am not sure she will be doing this again for a while.

Ewww clear sick? I hope it is just mucous (sp?) and nothing more serious Law.

Oh buggeration. Jimmy's teething already. He's only ten weeks old! He's normally the most smiley, placid baby imaginable but he's been gnawing my nipples and he whinges and cries over seemingly nothing, chews his fists and looks hot and bothered. My mother told me he looked to be teething. "Rubbish," says I like the prototypical naive new mother going exactly by the book. Had a look in his mouth and there's a little dark pink bump where a lower central incisor is no doubt due to erupt.

Sickness is absolutely fucking awful this time around, I'm actually still in bed as I type this! It's so depressing.

Sorry for moaning folks. Hope everybody's well. Will do a mega catch up asap.

laweaselmys · 05/05/2009 15:11

She keeps choking on my milk will be drinking and then starts coughing or screaming like it has gone down the wrong way. Poor baby!

jollyjoanne · 05/05/2009 15:40

Law Mae does this to sometimes you'd think there was bones or something in my milk the way she manages to choke and cough sometimes when she is drinking.

Fearless The doctor told me that the combi pill is fine after 6 weeks and if they are sure your milk is in. The oestrogen can limit your milk supply supposedly so isn't good if you are having problems bfing. But I wasn't and I wasn't confident I'd remember to take the mini pill at the same time each day, which isn't quite so much of an issue with the combi pill.

Loli can't believe Jimmy is teething already. Although one of my nieces had one tooth which appeared to be on the verge of coming through for nearly 2 months and the whole time her cheeks were bright red!
