Turtle, hope P's ok and just doing that "make mummy panic but be absolutely fine by the time she gets me to hospital" temp thing they're experts at.
FfFf, same to you but without the needing to go to A&E bit, no consolation to say think how bad the booze is for your body huh? Def. not preggers?

turtle23 · 18/05/2009 10:56

Went to Gp this morning as temp still no better. Ear infection. I tried to tell them this yesterday and they said it was fine. Why is it always a battle to get proper care for the LOs? Am beginning to shit bricks worry slightly about my scan this afternoon. Suddenly it all seems a bit more real!

good luck turtle, and FfFf, i wish i was closer to give you that break for a few hours!

Ewe · 18/05/2009 11:46

Good luck for this afternoon turtle! Let us know how it goes, the thought of going to a scan and seeing a little baby jumping about makes me feel a bit broody

Hope P is better too!

Ff, 9 weeks down 8 weeks to go is fab, it means you're over the hump and on the countdown. Hope you feel better soon as well.

I am off work today with a D&V bug (thanks again, nursery!) - think we might be the sickliest thread around?

Not sure if I mentioned it but MMR was fine, she had a little yell and then they gave her a sticker and jelly baby and she was happy as larry. Apparently it's 7-10 days after she might feel unwell so will be looking out for that from Wednesday - weekend which could be really bad timing as I am in hosp Wed afternoon having an endoscopy. Arrgh! Fingers crossed she'll be fine.

pantshavenames · 18/05/2009 11:55

Hello all,
back from my 2 weeks in France- had a lovely time, weather was great- sat on beaches and made sandcastles, played hide and seek in ruined abbeys, had sneaky beers in bars while children were bribed with a never ending supply of food to SIT STILL. The house we stayed in was great- very big, DD spent much time wandering around with a big grin on her face sucking a giant wooden spoon. I don't know why I bothered to pack toys. And best of all.... both kids were tucked up fast asleep at 7 and didn't wake up till 6!!!!
Due to an oversight on DH's part, the only down side was we forgot to take a good supply of music for the car so listened to a lot of Charlie and Lola. Apparently listening to an IPOD is taking unfair advantage of being unable to drive. .

Turtle- hope scan goes well.
FfFf- feel better soon and think about how good the first drink after antibiotics will taste. Buy something a little bit special to put in the fridge.

turtle23 · 18/05/2009 15:13

Oh goodnes...it IS a baby in there!!! Scan all good. Phew.

Glad everything is fine, Turtle. Hope P is feeling better.

Didn't offer the breast this morning, and I don't think Ff even noticed. So I have them back. Feel like I should have a drink to celebrate, but 1. can't, and 2. feel very decadent drinking alone during the week.

Ff took a few, very tentative steps this afternoon, before a not-too-elegant face plant, which she found hilarious.

Thank you for all being so nice to me Still feel like utter poo, but it could be worse.

Two of the guys Bloke works with came around this afternoon, just to say hello and check everything is ok. I saw two uniforms through the glass in the front door and shat myself. Think I aged about twenty years in the 30 seconds it took me to shoo the dogs away and grab Ff.

FfreckleFface · 18/05/2009 19:55

Sorry, meant to add - phn, glad you had a fab time. Am of your holiday.

Ewe, hope it clears up and you feel better soon.

turtle23 · 18/05/2009 20:25

FfFf- That has to be your worst nightmare vision. You poor thing!
I have officially had enough of being by myself with ill child. Having been to GP and thinking it was all sorted, went to change P's nappy this afternoon and found one of his testicles swollen to 5 times normal size. NHS Direct said to run to casualty. Got there and they have said it's not too serious probably but he may have a hernia...have to keep an eye. More interestingly, two drs looked in his ears and found NOTHING but did find he had nasty throat infection. Am with GP and now on different lot of abs. Grr. I am so bloody tired now. Sorry for the long mememe post but I am so sad, tired and lonely and fed up of being lone parent of ill child.

Congratulations skidoodle and evie!
Glad your scan went well turtle, and hoping that P is on the mend. I lost confidence in gps a while ago when dd had chest/urinary infection - some docs said def one thing and some said def the other... never really found out the truth. Antibs did the job though! Morning sickness doesn't help either does it. I have discovered that i can keep tiny sips of fizzy water down - but dh did a terrible stink yesterday that had me dashing for the loo. He was rather proud, I wasn't! Scan is 2 weeks on thurs, eeek. I haven't really thought about the prospect of a new baby yet!

Ewe · 18/05/2009 20:43

Oh turtle Poor you and poor P. When is DH home? I think he owes you a night off - hotel and spa perhaps! Excellent news about the scan, will you find out the sex at the next one?

Good luck with your scan bambipie! I would imagine it's quite different to first pregnancy in that you focus less on it as you have a toddler taking up your time and attention instead, less napping too I should think. Do maybe give having a new baby some thought over the next 7 months though

timmyinatizzy · 18/05/2009 21:57

Turtle - So glad the scan went ok. So there's definitely only 1 baby in there then? Hope your DH comes back soon to give you some R and R.

Ewe - I know how you feel about the D & V bug. Luke went through a spell of getting just before and for a few months after xmas. Touch wood we've been 'clean' for a few months now.

Skidoodle - Congrats on the pregnancy. Are you going to give up work this time, or have a longer maternity time off? Seem to remember you were only off for a short time the first time round?

FF - It seemed so sad when we gave up the breast, DS doesn't care for them at all now.

Hope you all don't mind but we've entered Luke in the local newspapers photo comp. We need all the votes he can get, plus he is the cutest [biased mummy emoticon], so if you have a few spare minutes....please have a look. Thanks.

Vote Luke

turtle23 · 19/05/2009 06:58

timmy-voted for you.

I can't get P to take his ab's now. First time in 15 years of giving babies medicine that I've failed. I got one lot in and he just vommed it back up. This is hell. It takes all my strength to pin him down and really need a third arm for administering foul medicine.

OP posts:
bambipie · 21/05/2009 12:54

Ooooo. It's gone all quite here.

turtle - hope you got the meds in and P is feeling better .

Ewe · 21/05/2009 13:22

Hope P is better now turtle, what I find particularly effective (if a little harsh) is lying T down on the floor or sofa with her head between my knees and one hand holding her down whilst the other shoots the medicine in her cheek. Not nice but does the job! Is he any better?

This thread does go through quiet and then very busy phases!

Nothing exciting to report here, I had an upper GI endoscopy yesterday which has left me feeling a bit rubbish so am working from home today (in the garden ). How are we getting on with the meet up? Thread here. Voted for Luke Timmy.

JFly · 21/05/2009 15:23

Little moan.

G poked me in the eye yesterday and scratched my cornea. Not nice, hurt like hell. DH complained that it was all very inconvenient. I thought he might have to take me to the ER but in the end, I went to the GP myself. He went off to work as usual.

Although he agreed it was an accident, I could have prevented it by keeping G "under control" and, G shouldn't have been in our bed (it was after he'd had his morning milk - like every other morning!!!). All I wanted was a little sympathy (and maybe a lift to the Dr), not to be told it was my fault! Grrrrrrr.

End rant.

turtle23 · 21/05/2009 17:46

Ow, Jfly...not nice. Hope the drops do the trick(even if they dont taste nice... )

Pascal is still v poorly. We were supposed to go to hospital today to have IV but I ran away to Brighton instead. He hadn't been able to eat or drink but I got up every hour to force fluids down him as I cannot face hospital on my own. Distraction of seaside and grandparents worked to get a bit of food(even if it was chips mostly) and drink in him.. Having said that...if he isn't drinking by the morning will have to take him in.

The medicine thing...I can hold him down and shoot it down his throat. He voms it back up. Have mixed it with yoghurt and it takes 30-4- minutes to give it to him. DH please come home from your f'ing holiday.

Ewe · 21/05/2009 22:59

Oh no, sorry, didn't read that it was coming up again afterwards. DD does that so now when it is important drugs like anti-biotics I will give her chocolate buttons after I have pinned her down and forced in the meds, but she is quite easily distracted by chocolate.

Really hope he perks up soon, it's shitty having an ill baby, even more so when you're doing it on your own in early stages of pregnancy.

monthlymayhem · 22/05/2009 23:30

Congrats on all the pregnancies - hope it's not contagious on this thread

Turtle, hope P is on the mend - chips at the seaside is always a cure

My DS is finally walking, after taking tentative steps over the last couple of weeks. However today, he got so excited that he started trying to run and before I could catch him he fell into the corner of our coffee table He's got a cut just to the side of his eye which we thought might need a stitch or two, but luckily the steri-strips seem to be working. I'm sure I cried far more than he did

Anyway, he is absolutely fine and I guess this is just the start of all the cuts, scrapes and bruises....

I have been stressed beyond belief by work at the moment, and struggling to balance work, spending quality time with ds, housework, nevermind any time with DH... I'm away on business for four days next wek which I'm really not looking forward to so all in all feeling a bit

Going on a hen night tomorrow night so hopefully a few cheeky vinos will help to de-stress

merryberry · 24/05/2009 14:29

how's it going, people in the wars?

sorry to hear you're not enjoying the work life balance MM. that's a long trip, i hope it goes quickly for you. got a cleaner? when i worked with ds1 is when we got one.

how are your LOs napping nowadays? GG still needing to mighty doses of sleep most days. can manage on 1 big nap and a short pram nap, but mostly has 1.5-2 hours twice a day and 12 hours at night. i do like the time 'off' but we're also all getting a bit bored being hobbled by them so much.

merryberry · 24/05/2009 14:29

to=two

ilovegreenbeans · 25/05/2009 10:23

i think the days of our morning nap have just ended... so that will leave us with one afternoon one of 2ish hours and 12 at night.

When am I supposed to shower now!?

DD is very close to walking- does anyone else's child have flat feet? Her left one is much worse than the right, but from what I've read on mn at this age it's nothing to worry about. Still concerning for me though.

JFly · 25/05/2009 12:14

G dropped his morning nap right around his 1st birthday. Now he does 12:30-3 or thereabouts. He has never been good at sleeping in the pushchair, so if we're out during nap time he generally just powers through until bed time.

I know what you mean about showering! At first I was gutted, but now I just stick him back in his cot with toys and get ready. Sometimes he cries, but most of the time he's ok.

I prefer one nap now - it's nice to be able to go out in the mornings and get stuff done. Then we do "fun" stuff after he wakes up in the afternoon.

HolidaysQueen · 25/05/2009 18:19

Just about dropped morning nap here. He used to do 2 x 1.5 hours or more but meant that we never got stuff done as he was awake 11-2 but lunch got in the way of activities and then he would sleep until at least 4. So I decided to start waking him after 30 mins in morning to see what happened, and he started going down at 12.30-1ish for bigger nap. Then after a month of him coping with just 30 mins in the morning, I just started keeping him awake throughout the morning - after about 10 days of no morning nap he is now at the stage where he lunches at 11.30-12ish and then down for 2.5-3 hours at 12-12.30ish. He still has an odd day where he needs to nap at 11, or goes through until 4 but I think we're pretty much down to one 2.5-3 hour nap per day.
