rosmerta · 20/03/2009 17:25

jolly great minds think alike!

spotofcheerfulness · 20/03/2009 17:27

That's top news on both counts

spotofcheerfulness · 20/03/2009 17:28

Ooh, two posts since I wrote that, was referring to Verso's news

JollyBear · 20/03/2009 17:30

Oops cross-posted there! That's right ros

verso I'm really glad that the HV visit went well and that you got some independent verification on how well you are doing! That must have been lovely to hear

pmk1 · 20/03/2009 17:45

JJ when did she have her shots? That is exactly how B was - I think it sounds like either that, or the teething thing. I even had him at the after hours GP cause I made DH call them when he casually mentioned it could be an ear infection, but it wasn't and apparently there was "nothing wrong with him" - he did settle down but it took him a good 3-4 days?
verso you sound in a better place - glad to hear.

daisydora · 20/03/2009 18:00

DS had jabs yesterday too...very grouchy today! His cheeks are bright red no temp but no sign of anything in his gums either. I have put his mood down to his jabs anyway but may give him a bit of Calpol before bed if he doesn't improve. Its so hard to tell whats wrong.

verso great news about your DD's school, and yay for your HV she sounds great

OP posts:
spotofcheerfulness · 20/03/2009 18:15

Spurious theory alert - I wonder if the vomming is to do with teething and the amount of saliva they're producing? When they're on their backs they can't swallow properly so it all collects up and then when a feed goes on top of it - boak! and out it comes.

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 18:26

Just bookmarking myself have read a couple of post so will just say a big happy birthday to Freddie wow so big now, big cuddles to him.

Verso I have never been more convinced of your strength, to put up with what you are going through and then on top of all that deal with this very unfair I feel, job thing, you are a very stoic women. When you said being on here at night made you feel less lonely that brought a tear to my eye, when I give ds his nighttime feeds I might pop on quickly just to say hello. And I agree with keeping the BF exclusive at the 4 month spurt that's where I went wrong last time. Starting on baby rice did not stop ds1 waking every 2 hours.

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 18:36

Right trying to keep up and not forget what I want to say so will post as I go along.

Daisy double cervix & women wow that's kinda cool, you can't get any more womenly really, you would be revered as a goddess in some cultures. And if you need party food ideas you can't go past fairy bread so simple but so yummy, kids love it.

JJ the FILs place is not just bigger but closer, you can always say they would be better close as if DD kicks off can take her back to base easily.

Right off to read more.

Hello all

Just back from London having had veins done today. It took two and a half hours, there was tons of blood (wasn't expecting that, the surgeon looked like Sweeney Todd afterwards), it hurt a lot and...hurts now. About thirty injections in each leg (of local anaesthetic), then little incisions and then the laser was passed through the vein to burn it away in sections. At one point I got a mouthful of smoke and I am still, um, burping a burnt perspex taste . Ugh. I have wadding and bandages from thigh to ankle. Will have to have a couple of sessions of follow up work done and then that's it. All in the name of vanity. I must be crackers. But I do not want varicose veins, end of.

Anyway...Jump, you poor old thing, are things any better? Sometimes they just have days like this, don't they? No comfort I am sure. Echo a touch of Infant Calpol and a bath. And a spot of cheerfulness for you, Missy.

PD, so lovely to see you back. I was worried you'd done a moonlight flit, like those other people who posted until the babes were born and then just vanished into the ether. (Come back! Cooooommmme baaaaaaack!) You SO have my sympathy about leaving London. I went out in Soho last night and I loved it very much.

Verso, sorry about the job. But I am a fatalist. There will be other, better jobs and you will look back and think, thank GOODNESS I waited for this

Arti, I am with you on the whole Boden thing, but now I am podgy I am terrified of looking Mumsy. Loving the talk of motorway services. Can I put in a vote for the Moto brand of services? I went to x on the M6 recently and they have: a microwave for heating bottles, free nappies, free wipes, free babyfood, free sterilised bottles...Flipping fantastic. Sorry about the boring worm in the house. Our survey was being done today. What will you do?

Daisy, your jabs are always in tandem with my DD's! She had her third lot yesterday. She was fine but DP had to leave the room before she had them done as he is incredibly squeamish. And when he heard her scream (like a whistling kettle) he had to go out into the carpark. She has been ok since...apparently - she is at MiL's until Sunday. What a bad mummy. But I am in no position to do anything much at the moment.

Running out of steam now. Sorry to all those I haven't mentioned. Love to all.

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 19:00

Oops sorry for double post. JJ you poor thing you have had a hell day can only back up what JB said try the paracetamol could be teeth ears or post jabs all of which will be sorted by calpol and maybe a bath. How have her feeds been? Also don't be hard on yourself it seems just when we feel we might be getting this mother thing sorted something comes out of the blue to remind with a bang that we are far from perfect.

Verso hooray for you brill health visitor. I think you needed to hear something positive.

Poor ds2 has spent most of the day strapped into his car seat while I drove all over the midlands. But was nice to see my BfN group. Unfortunately the homebirth group was a bit of a waste as I was running late and then didn't get time to tell my birthstory for J as I had to leave to get to Wolverhampton but oh well I chatted to a lovely lady who is expecting her first and is hoping for a home birth. So pleased it's the weekend now no early starts for nursery so can all chill out in the morning. Then I'm going over to Nottingham to introduce J to an old friend of mine.

DH & DS1 had their hair cut today while J and I were away DH always looks do much more grown up when he has a trim I do miss his long baby hair.

Kayz did you see the draw? You know I wish we still had our season tickets I'd love to take you to a game.

LadyThompson · 20/03/2009 19:02

Oops. I meant to ask DP the name of the services and now he has gone out to buy beer. It was near Stafford anyway, but I presume all the Moto ones are like this. Three cheers to them.

Morrissey says that his favourite motorway services is Newport Pagnell. But he doesn't, of course, have a baby

And I don't know why mumsy has a capital letter (I'm tired).

Jump, if you are shelling out all this dough for the wedding, a bit of extra for the B&B may well preserve your sanity. It could be money well spent. You need your own space at these family gatherings. You won't remember £50 or whatever further down the line, annoying as it may be for now, whereas, some sort of family ding dong could have repercussions forever!

Ooh, this glass of wine is like MEDICINE. Coffee and wine are though, aren't they? And music, of course. And baths.

I look like I've got two broken legs, with all the dressings and bandages. Friday nights aren't very good for telly any more, are they? Anyone watching Free Agents? That's kind of my line of work, but obviously it's not a very authentic depiction (imo). It is also very rude! I'm pretty easy going about that sort of thing on the tv, but I must admit I would cringe if I watched it with my mother...

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 19:06

Ooh Lady you've reminded me that we have what I hope is a nice bottle of Pinot Noir to drink so might open as soon as DS2 is fully settled he's almost there.

I want to watch free agents now what channel is it will check if past episodes are on catch up.

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 19:12

Oh and lady you poor thing that's sounds all a bit painful, it's not vain, it's brave.

Turniphead1 · 20/03/2009 19:20

quickie - haven't read all.

Hugs to LadyT - hope those ol legs get better - you deserve lots of spots of c'fulness tonight you poor love. Big hugs to Jump - how was rest of the day lovely? I also find Calgel teething get great if it is gnashers. jolly my DD1 got her first teeth at 4 months, not unfeasibly early! verso so glad you got one of the Good Health Visitors.

On motorway service stations there is a great one up through Lake District on m6 - Westmorland I think, that has a lovely play area and microwaves and so on. From memory the Moto ones offer free Organix babyfood - which is very pleasant. We will be doing the 11hour with kids drive to Scotland again this year after a 3 year break. Aaaargh.

Had a lovely walk in Finsbury Pk with WG and Kim today. Sorry you were poorly Spot!! How are you feeling.

Off out ce soir with two girl chums. 'citing!

LadyThompson · 20/03/2009 19:20

The surgeon said I was brave but I think I was just bloody minded (and beyond the point where I could run away )

jumpjockey · 20/03/2009 19:30

Sorry for turning the thread quite so blue, everyone. In the end I lay down with her on the bed, forced boob on her and we both ended up going to sleep til Dh got in about 10 minutes ago. He's now making cups of sugary tea, will come back later to check everyone's news (sounds like lots of positive stuff goign on ) No idea when she'll wake up, usually goes to sleep at 8 so may end up just moving her off my spot on the bed to the cot and leave it at that.

Veggiemummy · 20/03/2009 19:34

whispers< hooray JJ, how are you feeling yourself?

artichokes · 20/03/2009 19:39

Just a quickie. Am loving seeing you all embrace the service station chat. It's like the new politics - everyone has an opinion.

Am all dressed up with nowhere to go. Well not literally because I never got round to getting changed but had planned on being at big posh hen do in town. Been excited all day planning outfit and getting du home early so I could get ready. Then quickly called friend tocsee if she wanted avpre-hen drink and she said it was last night and everyone had wondered where I was! Am mortified and disappointed in equal measures.

Hope your legs heal quickly LadyT and that your MiL doesn't corrupt O in your absence. Enjoy your cheerfullness, I am indulging too.

JJ - what a shot day. They all have them but I know that's no help when you are going through it. Will she sleep in her pram? At least you can rock a pram while sitting in a cafe with a cuppa.

There seems some interest in a RfH meet again. Shall I start a thread?

artichokes · 20/03/2009 19:42

Sorry for typos, am on iPhone again.

Meant to also add many happy returns to Freddy and looks of awe directed at Daisy's many reproductive organs.

JamInMyWellies · 20/03/2009 20:05

Oh westmorland is a lovley service station I always stop there when off to visit the rellies as the next 3hours form there are pretty much open road.

Verso hurrah for a good HV and isnt it fratifying to be told what a fab job you are doing BF. Something to remember when you are doing the umpteenth feed of the day thst your LO is dong a fab job of thriving and its all down to you and your gold top. Sorry about the job onwards and upwards.

Daisy 2 cervix's and wombs blimey how does that work could you carry twins and have one in each womb ooh I am intrigued.

LadyT as we say on DS1's thread well done for "manning up" just tyhink come the Summer you will have beautiful blemish free legs.

Arti NOOOOOOOO poor you any chance oyu could get a sitter and go out with DH for dinner so as not to put a good outfit to waste.

Spot have a lovely wkend and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Many happy returns to Freddie, Kayz have afab birthday wkend.

JJ poor you I hate days like that hope DD is beter for you tonight and that you get some rest.

Veggie HURRAH for dishwasher I heart mine snd did you know itsmore environmentally friendly to use a dishwasher than to wash by hand.

I have joined the mean mummy brigade after the last few nights of up and down all night long with Lachlan I have confiscated the dummy last night he would bob off to sleep the thing would fall out cue waking up and screaming until I put it back in am not dong that for the next 2 yrs! So thins morning he waved goodbye to them and is going to have to find his thumb or learn to sleep without it.

Well my final thought for the day is this, have been out walking the dog alot and driving aorund all the lovely little lanes where we live this wk and with the weather so beautiful have realised how much I love this time of yr the fields are all freshly ploughed ready for planting the buds are coming out on all the trees and the family of ducks in our village have started waddling up and down the streets again. Spring is here woohoo.

JollyBear · 20/03/2009 20:21

Oh arti what a shame. It would be great if you get a sitter at short notice like jam says - or you could have dinner at home and pretend!

I'd love a dishwasher but we couldn't fit one in the kitchen. I'm tempted to remove a cupboard, chuck stuff out and get one.

JJ Glad to hear that DD settled in the end.

ladyT Ouch, ouch and double ouch. That sounds dreadful but I can understand why you wanted it done. I've got thread veins on my legs and they are bad enough. I hope the pain improves or at least the cheerfullness takes the edge off.

Westmorland is a great services! It has a great farm shop selling lovely veg and cakes.

Jam It is lovely and springlike at the moment. There is a mill pond at the bottom of our garden and the Canada Geese have flown in over the past few days. When the eggs have hatched Ma and pa Goose bring their young up through the gardens along the road (thankfully it is a dead end!) and back to the pond. Our cats watch them practically drooling but are wise to the fact that they'd get pecked to within an inch of their lives if they tried to make a move.

LadyThompson · 20/03/2009 20:25

Jam, I am totally with you on this time of year. The blossom is coming out, there are lovely daffs...it's so cheering. You are brave about the dummy! DP isn't keen but because I had mine to get to sleep until I was 4 (ahem) I am a bit more pro them. But they can be a pain in the bum when they keep falling out, I do agree.

Ooh, have a super time for Freddie's birthday, our Kayz.

And now for a whinge, sorry. My assistant at work is being mean with me She is being a little obstructive to say the least, and if she is like this now, it's going to be pretty unworkable/impossible when I return to work, as I will be working from home and really need her on side. She is very ambitious and I don't think it's paranoid to say that she has seen my being off as her great chance, and I don't really think she wants me back. I'm a bit sad, as I have always tried so hard to give her opportunities and encouragement, and not hog everything to myself. I am going to have to have a word with the owner of the company and I have to say, it's really brought me down. Sorry to go on about myself (as I always do). I just...know I have always been incredibly decent in my dealings with her, and I feel a bit let down by her incredible ruthlessness. It's a cut throat business. But I don't cut the throats of my own colleagues. I do other things to earn money as it happens but it's my bread and butter income. I have worked there for 12 years and she has been there 18 months (and ironically it was me who agitated for her to be taken on - the owner of the company wanted another candidate It'll all be ok I suppose, but I hate it when people disappoint like that. Leaves a nasty taste. Sigh...

LadyThompson · 20/03/2009 20:29

Jolly, I have thread veins too. They are going to be tidied up when I have recovered. Blasted things.

Arti, I am so sorry you missed your night out! That's rotten. I want to take you out myself.
