rosmerta · 15/03/2009 08:32

arti hope you get some rest & feel better today

verso likewise for you. Ikwym when they wake up all happy & smiley, almost makes it worthwhile!

kayz I also never google medical conditions now, far too scary!

sybil I'm sorry to hear about your friend

bisou ds2 is still having 2 bottles a night at 11pm & 3am. I'm trying to get him to 1 but its not working! We've tried reducing the amount he has, cue screaming until we make up some more, then he's unsettled the rest of the night. And last night we tried delaying his 11pm one by 15mins, cue screaming until we fed him & then he was unsettled the rest of the night! I guess we leave it as it is for now!

Dh has a half marathon run today so the boys & I are heading back to Kew Gardens to meet some friends!

Bisou · 15/03/2009 10:01

Rosmerta we finally got DS down to just the one feed last night, but I did reduce the amount very slowly each time, by just 10ml. He grumbled a bit but I just popped the dummy in. Actually I was quite surprised that after being reswaddled in the cot and a suck on his dummy, he then miraculously slept through till 2am, whereupon I went in his room in the hope it might wake him for his feed (which it did) as I was worried he hadn't fed for 7hrs! Having said that though, tonight he had a real proper crying session before bed. It was very sad, he was inconsolable for about 10 minutes. I think he might be teething, as it's very unlike him, and he's been dribbling for a few weeks now so perhaps he might have a tooth starting to come through? Either that or perhaps he was over tired as it's only happened at the very end of the day. He's only having 40min naps during the day and no longer - anyone else's DC doing this?

Today he had naps at:
7.30am
9.40am
12.10pm
1.30pm
3.30pm

And he woke at 6am after having gone to bed the night before at 7pm. I'm also trying just to give just one bottle after he wakes from his naps now, rather than feeding him as he wakes as well as to sleep, which is what we were doing before. I'm hoping it will help teach him good sleep habits - but it's so much easier to put a milk drunk baby to bed!

Hmm - I just added up his naps. That's only 3.5hrs during the day, is that enough? I'm off to Google it...

ps: FB gals there is a list on the group where you can write your MN name so we can work out who everyone is (I only just figured this out) Xmas Smile

Sorry for the big 'me' post, will catch up properly later.

rosmerta · 15/03/2009 10:08

Bisou, we reduced by 10ml as well but he wasn't having any of it! Nap wise, ds2 tends to have 30mins around 9am & 5.30pm, then about 2hrs 11.30-12-ish

Ah babies can be so different can't they? I think your day sleep routine is similar to others I've seen too Rosmerta so perhaps my DS isn't getting enough sleep during the day. I might try to persist in settling him for a longer nap tomorrow rather than just letting him wake. It's so hard to know what to do sometimes!

kmp1 · 15/03/2009 11:59

Wow FB group has grown quite a lot! B slept from 9pm last nigh, so I got a little cheerful! Lovely day, and what am I doing? Pumping and got to grocery shop. Went to the park yesterday (Richmond) and there were SO many people though... Dog goes mad, wants to chase deer, and people with kites, and crashes picnics - just a general disaster, and i spend the whole time running up to people with B strapped to me, apologising!
kayz i think B would fall out of it too, but I wouldn't mind trying it first...
whenever we prop him on the bed or couch between cusions, he constantly tries to lean forward and sit up but then eventually topples over - looks like he's doing mini crunches!
arti hope it gets better soon

Indith · 15/03/2009 12:06

Kayz your mother in law is an evil biatch. I too shall be chucked off the thread because when I had ds I wasn't married was still doing my degree and as a result got housing benefit

Sleep, naps, weaning, bumbos...erm what else has been going on? I have read honest but then my dad phoned, dd had a meltdown and I may have lost track slightly.

Dd feeds 3 times a night on average, she goes to bed at 7 then wakes around 11 or 12 for her first feed. She naps a fair bit during the day which is nice.

Weaning? Hah!Afraid that is a subject I often find myself sitting on my hands about. Suffice to say I shall not be weaning before dd is capable of snatching my food, chewing it and swallowing it.

bumbos, suppose I should get it out of the loft and see if dd likes it more than ds did.

Right boys back from their walk and ds needs his lunch!

SummerLightning · 15/03/2009 12:14

Hello everyone just failing to keep up as everyone is so chatty.
arti hope you are catching up on sleep
kayz your MIL sounds like a right old cow, i hope your DH tells her to shut up when she says nasty things. But I think her telling you to throw away your small clothes is a good thing. Every time you fancy something naughty to eat, just think of that and how you will prove her wrong, should give you will power!
jj hooray for your friend's baby doing so well after op!
bisou I think 3.5 hrs is about right at our babies age. I am very impressed with your little one's mammoth size by the way. Our babies were born on same day and mine is still a tiddler (not had him weighed for a few weeks though)
On the subject of Bumbos, I think I may get one 2nd hand from ebay, as I have heard they don't last that long before they grow out of them, so might as well get one cheap.
kmp you made me giggle about your DH's lycra, I was on the train with jj and I saw a lycrad-up bloke, and I was saying to her "I can't believe I used to dress like that and think it was NORMAL". I can't wear my lycra at the moment as I am too fat . My DH used to moan that he never saw me in anything else! And it really is not very stylish.
Right DS is waking up! Gotta go!

Veggiemummy · 15/03/2009 12:31

Summer I actually popped mine on the other day my fav bianci kit and it was not pretty looked more like an Easter egg.

We are taking the boys out in the chariot for a run today am so excited have a sports bra to reduce boob wobble but wish they made belly bras?!?

Have decided against bumbo as ds is very active and I think will fall out like your ds1 kayz. He is content with being propped up with my body pillow and using the bouncy thing as then he is fully upright.

Kayz positional plagiocephaly is just a result of the SIDS advice you can put him on his tummy bumbo etc but he will still spend the majority of his time on his back. Really it's only an aesthetic thing when they are little as the grow it is less noticable and their hair gets thicker so you hardly notice. Your boys lovely curls do the trick nicely.

artichokes · 15/03/2009 12:59

I survived the night and my stomach seems ok today. Maybe it was my body reacting in anger to the constant waking. Whatever the cause it was a very unpleasant few hours & as a result I have bought a carton of formula. I just need a little flexibility. It was so horrid having to endlessly feed DD while feeling so sick and knowing there was nothing DH could do to help.

Anyway I am cheered by the lovely sun and we have spent the morning in the park Reading the papers & watching DD play. We also ran into several friends which is always a nice surprise.

Kim - sorry to ignore your post last night. I was having a very self obsessed moment. It's great that Judah seems ok and your husband is such a brilliant coach.

Indith - nice to "see" you. How are you feeling now? Did your feeding issues resolve?

kayzr · 15/03/2009 14:21

Veggie DS1's positional plagiocephaly was another MIL thing. He had a flattish head until he was about 3 months old. GP said it was fine but MIL and HV(MIL's friend) both said he had it. But as far as I'm concerned if the GP said that it wasn't positional plagiocephaly then that is good enough for me.

I sold something on Ebay and the buyer still hasn't paid and it sold on Friday. I did also put I would post to UK only and they are from Italy.

JamInMyWellies · 15/03/2009 16:26

Good lord lycra post baby are you people mad.

Hi Indith, I tooo am a wait until they can eat a macdonalds all by themselves no faffing with purees in this house.

Arti glad oyu are feeling better sotty you are having rubbish nights.

Cat I moved away from E. London last yr now live in deepest darkest Essex. By the way where is poison was she not moving to my neck of the woods?

KAyz your MIL and HV sound like a right pair of eejits. Smile sweetly and ignore.

Oh and daytime sleeping DS2 has a bit of a routine goes down for a 20 -40 min nap at 9am then we take the dog out for a walk at 11 he goes to sleep in his buggy and when we get home I leave him in the garden and he wakes after a couple of hours he then bobs back off around 4ish for another 30 mins.

Suppose I had best go sort out DS1's tea.

rosmerta · 15/03/2009 17:29

We've had a lovely time in Kew today, I feel like we've walked miles! If it wasn't for my friend's pushchair I don't know how I would've got ds1 back! & dh did well, ran his half-marathon in 2hr 16mins, ds1 is now wearing his medal

Summer & Veggie, am impressed with the lycra, I've never been one for it personally!

Kmp, its not that far for me to get to Richmond Park, we go there quite a bit. We tend to go around near Pembroke Lodge, its a nice walk & there's a little cafe which do the best sausage baguettes

Talking of flat heads, I am a little concerned about ds2. He either spends his time in the pushchair (flat), in his bouncy chair or on his playmat. I try to give him tummy time but he gets fed up after about 5 mins, the rest of the time he's on his back. Has anyone got any other tips to try & avoid it?

jumpjockey · 15/03/2009 18:30

rosmerta have you tried using a sling for ds2? dd loves hers and has got a really strong neck as a result, she's always trying to look round and is impatient to be facing outwards. I sometimes get twinges in my back as a result of not really doing it up properly but if you're worried about flat head, it might be worth a try. Some towns have sling meets where you can try different kinds and see what suits you and your baby best. Oh and I'm sure the bouncy chair is fine, they're soft aren't they so it's unlikely that that would cause any kind of flat head problem.

kayz well frankly if your GP says it's ok, I'd sooner trust them than your barmy MIL! and how rude about the clothes! If they're motivating you, by all means keep them.

arti glad you're feeling a bit better, what a horrid night

Indith that's you crossed off my Christmas card list

bisou re naps, as long as he seems happy enough when he wakes up I wouldn't worry too much. If dd's not had a long enough nap she's a little grump (eg if she gets woken up by outside influences) but if she wakes up of her own accord she's cheery and lovely so I'd go by his mood really rather than by the clock. He's certainyl going down for lots of little naps so that's probably just his style of napping. No point trying to force longer ones if they don't suit.

On the subject of sleep, we had a corker last night - 8pm til 4.30 and then she slept again until 8am. Alas she seems to alternate between a good night like that, and bad night of waking at 11.30 then every couple of hours, so might be a dodgy one tonight. Oh well = time to get her up and start charging up her tummy with milk ready for bed again food, playtime and sleep, food, playtime and sleep, it's a shame they're too young to appreciate it!

Hope everyone else has had the lovely sunshine and is feeling springlike. It must be good for all our LOs as well

kayzr · 15/03/2009 18:41

We have a brilliant day. We've spent most of the day sorting out the garden. DS1 has loved being outside all day. I've got some pictures of him digging and sitting on his go kart. I've been chasing him round so have had plenty of exercise.

I'm now trying to figure out what to do with our living room. I am tempted to re-arrange it but DH isn't sure.

Hope you have all had good days.

SummerLightning · 15/03/2009 18:53

We had a cool day too. Though I started it by having a fight with DH by telling him that I didn't believe he hadn't had enough sleep. (he had had about 9 hrs )

WE cycled with our new trailer on a local off road route to a pub and had lunch OUTSIDE. Like you do in SUMMER. It was great. We accidentally got DS covered in mud spatters though. Oh and I didn't wear lycra.

jj that sleep sounds excellent!

What is the flat head talk about? Do they actually get a flat head? And does it matter? Medically I mean? And does it go away when they get older? DS doesn't have one that I have noticed so I guess he is safe.

Veggiemummy · 15/03/2009 19:09

Oh what a lovely day we also got the chariot out Summer but we took the boys for a run to some friends house then ran home. Was so nice to run together again like we used to and the boys looked great in the chariot, very snuggly. J slept most of the way so he obviously likes the sling insert.

Kayz your MIL needs to sort herself out. She knows she is being mean. She thinks she can still manipulate your DH like she probably always has but she is up against his love and protectiveness of you so better to let go of her bitterness and start treating you with the respect you deserve.

I actually have bit of a bug bare about the positional plagiocephaly. My SIL is really mean about one of her neighbours whose LO ended up with it, inferring that the parents where neglectful and generally being a bit nasty and gossipy about them with us. Then just after she had been telling us about this family and when she thought I wasn't looking she started feeling DHs head to see if his head as flatish too!!!! So Kayz I share your annoyance about this sort of thing, it would be nice if our relatives could just look at the beauty in our children and celebrate that rather than look for faults to somehow beat us.

Veggiemummy · 15/03/2009 19:13

Oh and kayz did you see the Villa v Tottenham result?

SummerLightning · 15/03/2009 19:15

veggie did you mean your DH's head?

Veggiemummy · 15/03/2009 19:18

LOL no I meant DS1s head that would be funny if she started feeling DHs head I would be very worried.

EffiePerine · 15/03/2009 19:44

Lovely day here as well, playing football with DS in the park, picnic and stroll home . DS2 has been grumpy all afternoon, eating lots and refusing to sleep (is there a 10w growth spurt?) but has JUST gone happily to sleep listening to German oompah music

cradle cap ridiculous atm, even in his eyebrows (sigh). Oil makes it worse, so have been washing in aqueous cream which seems to help.

off to catch up...

lal07 · 15/03/2009 19:47

Hello

Arti I'm glad you're feeling better - you poor thing what a horrid combination. We probably have come across each other at work - have sent you a message though as have residual fear of real life and Mnet colliding at some point. Although if collision were to be us working together in some capacity that would be marvelous. Will probably have a Bill to do when I get back to work in the Autumn - so maybe then? In any case bound to be wondering about Parliament some days. Am such sad case I even love that institutional smell it has

Bisou I think you still look pretty glam in your FB photo

We had lovely day too - but much more lazy than any of yours from the sounds of it. Had some great friends over and ate too much lovely roast beef.

kmp I love the sound of your dog.

Good nights all. We are watching yet more cricket with a very snotty DD who wouldn't go down. Oh and DS really made me laugh today - I told him to go and read one of his books (he was pestering in the kitchen) and he tottered off dutifully only to come back 2 minutes later saying 'I can't read' in a surprised voice

kayzr · 15/03/2009 19:49

Veggie I did see the score. Probably the first time I have ever wanted Spurs to win.

I think I might be partly to blame for the flat head thing with MIL. I mentioned that I thought DS1's head was a bit flat when he was about 6 weeks old. This caused MIL to go on and on and on about positional plagiocephaly. I never expected her to go to the HV and then try to make us get him a helmet. So I do try not to say things to her now. DS1's head isn't the slighest bit flat now and it sorted itself out really quickly.

I have just been out for a run. I had a weight watchers soup for dinner and DH wanted a takeaway. So I said I'd go get it for him. I am quite enjoying this running but can only do very short distances due to knees.

EffiePerine · 15/03/2009 19:56

right: bumbos, no idea, sorry! DS2 spends a fair amount of time being toted around by me or (esp atm) feeding, so no chance of getting a flat head that I can see.

Weaning: I'll def try blw this time, I did a mix with DS1 as I thought I ought to try purees but he (sensibly) refused to have anything to do with jars of baby food. I also weaned a few weeks before 6 mo as I was going back to work at that point, this time I'll wait the full 6mo I think. Weaning is such a hassle!

I'm also thinking I have to start toilet training DS1 soon, he's nearly 2 1/2. Gulp.

Sybs- your poor friend, it's a grim situation to be in. My sister went through similar a few years back, happily she's now thankful for the whole thing as she has a much nicer chap and is no longer living in webbed feet country a few doors away from her MIL . She completely shut down for days initially, it hits you like a bereavement I think no matter how twattish the partner .

Isn't the sun luvverly? I'm hoping it stays nice, I'd like to have a picnic in Kew Gardens for my birthday

EffiePerine · 15/03/2009 20:02

lol at your DS lal - DS1 has got into the habit of shouting at strangers in the park - today he ran up to an unassuming couple and boomed ' WHERE MY JUICE GONE?' which bemused them!
