Quick question - if I want to give DD calpol or suchlike tonight to take the edgeoff the chicken pox - do you use a spoon?? Never given medicine to such a young baby before and as she still has tongue thrust...
Or shall I rinse an infacol squirter (0.5ml per squirt) and kind of squirt for Britain to get upt o the dose?
(I know, I sound like I've never had a baby before )

heather1980 · 10/03/2009 18:34

we use an oral syringe about 50p from the chemist

star6 · 10/03/2009 18:35

I've given stuff to Q on a spoon and with a syringe (5ml, but filled it to 2.5ml) lactulose and calpol... he was fine with both. I cradled him in my arms and he just swallowed it down... really liked the taste of both
also loves baby bonjela...

Myjob - I'm not sure... Q has gotten up in the morning after not having nappy changed since 7pm and had totally dry nappies a couple of times and then again during the day for several hours... but only a few times. GP told me not to worry. Apparently, pink spots in the nappy are also common

I don't know about nappies sorry, I guess either see how you get on or ring NHS helpline?

You prob wouldn't notice the difference with my hair!! It's 2 inches shorter and a bit blonder! They noticed that my regrowth was 2 different distinct colours, first dark then lighter, said it must be to do with preg hormones but they'd never seen anything like it!!

I use a spoon for calpol.

Honeymoonmummy · 10/03/2009 19:54

MM - Poppy's stripey outfit? George at Asda

pepperrabbit · 10/03/2009 19:58

We used a spoon - and DH coaxed her mouth openn with the teat of her bottle and I sneaked the spoon in the other side.
She definitely had a face on!

OH CSWS I just saw your DD's name on FB - was looking atyour profile pics... beautiful!!! I LOVE that name for a little girl And she is precious! What a cutie.

star6 · 10/03/2009 20:29

How much does D weigh now, csws? I was admiring the coordination on the broccoli video. Q would be successful maybe 50% of the time at getting it directly into his mouth ... and he still drops stuff a lot - I dont think he understands that he needs to keep holding on for it to stay in his hand!

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2009 21:12

Thanks star . No idea how much ds weighs. Was 17lb 3oz last time I took him to clinic, but that was weeks ago now.

myjob - wouldn't worry about nappy if it was only that one that was dry. She probably wet the previous one just before you took it off, and the new one just after you put it on!

Ds soooooo unsettled tonight. Have put him in nursery, but the poor mite is waking and mumbling every few mins before settling off again. Blummin injections. Think he can have some medicine in a few mins just before I go to bed.

Ekka · 10/03/2009 22:19

So ds was weighed and put on 4oz this week, what a relief.
Sorry that D is unsettled CSWS, so far M has seemed totally unfussed about any of his jabs, I'm hoping that he stays settled, as dd is very unsettled tonight and has already fallen out of her bed a couple of times!

Myjob, I wish that dd (21mths) would have dry nappies - hers are always HUGE every morning. Mind you she drinks loads (probably my doing as I get awful migraines if I get slightly dehydrated so I'm always offering her drinks) - I think potty training her is going to be tricky....

Pepper - we have no luck with spoon or syringe so I can't really advise! Dd was great with a syringe, but ds just manages to spit back anything we give him!

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/03/2009 23:10

Wow you lot. got back from hols on Sun afternoon and it's taken me two whole evenings to catch up on all your news. Had a lovely time. DC fab on the flights and we're nearly back in the right time zone. Was it Loulou who asked if she was the only one who isn't on facebook?? I'm not either. I don't know how you all find the time. I already leave loads of things not done because I'm on here! I've enjoyed reading all your weaning confessions. We've not given A anything yet but she's only just over 4 months and only just starting to be able to sit. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow - going to Drs to get a coil fitted and it says to take paracetamol/ibuprofen before you go, so it's obv going to hurt. Anyone else gone this route?

star6 · 11/03/2009 04:54

I keep getting outbid on activity stations It's not essential I guess. Once he can sit properly on his own I probably won't feel hte need for it so much, right?

Marthasmama · 11/03/2009 08:51

I just don't know what to do about toys for M. She gets hugely over excited about toys, but then when she can't make her hands do what she wants them to, she gets really angry. I was talking to my mum about getting some new toys when she's 6 months but mum just pointed out that toys just seem to wind her up. M has got a pink bunny obession though . She can't get enough of her pink bunnies.

Marthasmama · 11/03/2009 12:15

Helloooooo

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/03/2009 12:28

Activity stations useful until they are walking star. Make sure that you place your bid in the last few seconds of the auction if you can, at the absolute max you would be prepared to pay.

Well ds slept in the nursery all night last night . I had to get up and feed him too many times, but I think that one of the wakes was more because he was cold, and at least he fed in a better position to prevent wind. We have also propped the head end of the cot well up to help any acid/sick coming back up, which we obv can't do when co-sleeping. He wasn't woken by dd arriving in my room in the morning like he often is either, so despite lots of waking I'd still call it a success. He slept in there for his nap this morning too, and managed prob about 1.5 hrs (didn't note exactly what time he went down or got up), which is the best I can remember for an unattended nap.

He'll have to sleep with me on Sat night (have 6 friends plus a baby staying), but other than that I might try and keep him to the nursery.

Hi all
Finally got my maclaren buggy of ebay in the end too as they stopped doing it in mothercare. Soooo pleased and it arrived today. Just need a nice pink footmuff as I have a basic one from mohtercare but it is not very long and a pain to be honest. I have seen some on ebay so will bid on them.

Off to London to see my sis this weekend. (without children DH will be in charge although DD1 is sleeping over at my mums fri and surely DHS parents will be here and taking DD1 to theres all weekend and feeding her ham I have to take a deep breath and enjoy my weekend away and hope DH can spend some quality time with children without his parents taking over
I need to go to the library really and get a good book to read on the way down as going on the train. Bliss and peace! Will miss DDs though but will get long lie ins

csws sooooo sorry to hear about your friend, poor poor thing.
myjob dd was dry last summer and then around xmas or just before she went through the night fry but did notice her nappy was wet in the morn but like she had just filled it. We encouraged her to have a wee first thing in the morning before she was allowed to come into our room and then she started to just do it and stay dry. We have had NO accidents at all, just put her in pants one night and thats been it, fab.

MM she just sounds frustrated that she cant grab them, I give DD2 a big soft teddy so she can grab it lots and thats prob the reason why your DD likes her pink bunny, dd2 does too

Ok well better go and check on her.

CSWS - Well done for keeping D in his room all night. M still can't go long between feeds but she is much worse during the day, luckily for me. I keep reading 'by five months babies are able to go for periods of up to 6 hours between feeds.' Nobody told M!

Jenwa - x 1,000,000 re: lie-ins! Have fun in the Big Smoke. I haven't been to London for ages. Must plan a shopping trip once M is off the boob juice.

MJM - Pink bunnies in general. My mum got her a little one from Baby Gap when she was born and I got her a bunny from Mothercare. Here it is. She loves them, she lights up when she sees them, much more so than any other soft toy. It's very cute. Oh and M's poo yesterday was disgusting!!
