hello everyone, long time nay speak.
GeorginaA well done with the food DS is lucky if he gets 1 home cooked meal a day i'm awful at time management when he naps, i'm not getting busy in the kitchen i'm sleeping to or watching home and away lol!! a habit i can't kick from my pregnancy days.

how is everyone?
it's been great weather today in London went to park and had a picnic. anyone else in London wanna meet up.

cat82 · 12/04/2005 10:33

Ooooh new thread, am i still allowed on it even though i'm not building an extension?

Well i am knackered, i'd forgotton what sleepless nights could be like! I went to my freinds house yesterday, she seemed pretty down, we spoke for a long time and it soon became apparent that she wasn't happy at all. I babysat for her dd while she got some sleep and then kiera and i went home for about 6.30pm. At about 9.00pm she called in floods of tears. Her dd wasn't settling and her dh is away on buisness so i went over to her house to try and help while she got a bit of sleep. Her dd eventualy settled at around 10.30pm for a grand total of 30 mins before waking and screaming again.
My poor freind was totaly frazzled as this has been going on for a while, so i offered to sleep on the couch and give her a night off. I think her dd and i got a total of around 3.5 hours sleep.
Not sure what's going on there, she's 9 months old and isn't night feeding. Could be teeth i guess, i've been round for the last couple of days and little one has really been crying for a good part of the day.

Aaaaanyway i'm having a lazy morning before going back this afternoon.

Spots- Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a good one

I'll write more later after a few good strong cups of coffee.

Take care everyone
xxx

Ugh cat - sounds exhausting. Well done you, though. You sound like a great friend. Hmm, have to say with a 9 month old I would be tempted to get a GPs appointment just to have a quick check over that there's nothing medically wrong then (assuming sleep has never been good) initiate controlled crying ASAP! If previously had been sleeping well though would push harder at the docs to check there was nothing wrong healthwise. 3.5 hours must leave the baby absolutely exhausted - can't be fun for them in the day either!

PS, you'll just have to apply for planning permission post haste

Right not got round to catching up on the other thread but will just waffle anyway. Cat what a star helping your friend out like that. Spots happy birthday for whenever it was. Georgina - you are a validated, useful member of society or at least of the may babies threads! Think it was you that got me onto the Lakeland potato ricer and I actually make mashed potatoes now (only ever did them for shepherd's pie before).

Right what have we been up to. Friday took DS and DD and myself to the dentist. Great fun having your teeth scraped with an 11 month old on your lap bouncing about and trying to grab the drill and a 4yo persistently asking questions you are unable to answer because you have a mouthful of dentistry.... DD bit the dentist (just a little nip) and DS refused to go in the chair so sat on my knees on the floor with the dentist on the floor in front of me. DH and I actually went out with some friends on Saturday night, so went and stayed with the PILs. Ended up having to put DD to bed myself though before we went out. She was being very clingy. But the night out was lovely. Bought DS some new trainers - as usual he chose the vilest pair of tasteless, flashing lights ones in the shop. DD has not yet cottoned onto the idea that females are supposed to like to shop. And DH had gone to work with the famous cruisers in the car so spent most of the day playing hunt the missing sock. Then went to visit aged Aunt with alzeimers in nursing home, met up with Mum, sister and 9wo gorgeous nephew there. DD loves her little cousin but due to nursing home temps had to be stripped of her clothes. Also managed to have a good chew at DS's chalk and board rubber and was slightly sick. Plus has got conjunctivitis. And a new tooth.

PS agree with G about friend's baby.

egypt · 12/04/2005 11:40

cat you are truly an angel sent from heaven to healp your friend out like that. was thinking of popping to see you this week instead - but you may just have your hands full by the sounds of it. let me know. never received directions from you btw, but not sure if you did end up sending them or not.

G, you are a star for cooking. have inspired me to use up those slowly softening apples and some raisins.

sooooo much to do. am in the process of clearing away years loads of mulchy bark and dog poo that is at the end of our garden from when the previous owners used it as a dog run. yummmmm. been on the cards for a while, but am determined to grass that area so dd can have more room and we can live safely! yuk. what a job. so ingrained with weeds too, like you wouldnt believe. dd in bed - shall i continue...hmm, dd away tonight so may just make the most of doing nothing and eating chocolate whilst making the house a mess as per usual. not such a great day today although q warm.

floor surrounding washing machine is dry. except for under teh carpet i am sure. now then girls, if you moved into a house 2 years ago, that housed 2 dogs in the kitchen, has an old cheap blue carpet with nice pristine white tiles underneath, has had about 5 -7 dishwasher loads leak over it and one washing maching load, wouldnt you want to lift up the carpet and get rid?!?!?! 'no' says dh. that would be silly to have a slippery tiled kitchen floor with a toddler. 'BUT IT'S RANK'. she'll prob catch hepatitis or something first.

..........dh is away for 2 days ................

Bozza · 12/04/2005 11:44

DO IT!

egypt · 12/04/2005 12:28

hmmmmm. have lifted the edge where the door is an there are dog hairs underneath, manky, ranky, scanky.....makes me retch. ughhhh

egypt · 12/04/2005 12:28

.......i do have a nice house, honest.

GeorginaA · 12/04/2005 12:30

PMSL

I thought he was being a bit grumpy with his cheese sandwich finger (first time he'd had a sandwich, obviously not impressed). Got out some rice pudding from the freezer, he was tucking away. Then his eyes got a bit droopy. Then all of a sudden there was this really loud snore .... !!!!

OP posts:
Bozza · 12/04/2005 15:05

Awhh - so cute. Feisty little DD would never do that but remember DS doing it at about that age. He looks very clean as well - no butter in the hair! DD would live off cheese sandwiches if I let her.

Go on Egypt. You know you want to. Can't imagine having a carpet in our kitchen. Especially after the task of mopping it last night.

GeorginaA · 12/04/2005 15:28

Was too busy throwing it on the floor to get any in his hair

OP posts:
Bozza · 12/04/2005 15:42

But at least you haven't got a blue carpet on the floor...

Right need some input here. People have started asking me what DD would like for her birthday. And I am clueless. So far I have told my MIL a dressing gown (because when we go swimming I put the kids in their dressing gowns when we get out and although DS's old one is perfectly good for the purpose she does keep getting mistaken for a boy) and have agreed with DS that he will get her one of those £5 pushchairs from ELC. Anyone any ideas?

GeorginaA · 12/04/2005 15:56

May babies are great for stuff for the garden. Sandpit? Little rocking horse (seem to remember little tikes one isn't extortionately priced - used to be able to get them for a tenner if you shopped around). A push around/ride on toy.

OP posts:
Bozza · 12/04/2005 16:02

The problem really is the second baby syndrome. Have got a sand pit. Was considering asking for a replacement but DH has said he will repair it (its one of those on legs and the cover is knackered) but probably won't but has scuppered my plan. Got a rocking thingie. Got a push around/ride on, a baby walker (triangle thingie), a brick trolley etc. I was thinking about grilie things but DD is really a bit young. She has got My First Baby Annabel. Actually perhaps I should suggest a couple of toy cars. Seems to be far more interested in DS's toys than her own. But when DS had chicken pox in October he had 122 cars and the number has grown since so don't think I'll bother!

GeorginaA · 12/04/2005 16:09

Ah yes - we have the same problem. Sorry, wasn't thinking when I replied... I was planning on getting a large toy catalogue and just working my way through it making lists of "nice to haves" for ideas.

OP posts:
Prufrock · 12/04/2005 16:39

Us too. We have bought plastic electronic stuff - the playskool ball popperupper and weebles barn dance , because when dd was little I was one of those "my precious darling will only play with handcrafted wooden toys, preferably fair trade, and with a strong educational and moral message" mothers. Oh foolish youth......

Bozza · 12/04/2005 16:45

Actually georgina I think you are probably worse off than me because at least I have the opposite sex now. Prufrock I may well have had that attitude but none of the grandparents did! My parents have just returned from France with yet another car for DS and an inflatable ball with a rattle in for DD to push around the room. Had a similar thing for DS but it got a puncture. Ball popper up is a bit too similar to Fisherprice Ball blaster which we also have. Am tempted by weebles though - mainly for nostalgia purposes. Also DD needs a new swimming costume.

GeorginaA · 12/04/2005 17:26

Actually I might get some of the ELC Happy Land stuff - ds1 likes playing with it at NdP's house, but I couldn't justify buying any because it was for a younger age (18mths+ I think)... it's a bit old for ds2 yet, but he'll be able to grow into it.

OP posts:
Twiglett · 12/04/2005 17:28

I think I'm going to find a chunky wooden dolls house (sure I saw one in cheeky Monkeys about 5 months ago) that she can chew

egypt · 12/04/2005 18:43

oh toys..... we have soooo many already. my mum is getting dd's hands done in plaster! and mil is buying her some musical instruments from the elc. oh dear.

well.....i did it! the carpet has gone. gone to next door's dog kennels. spent most of the day scrubbing the foam back off the tiles, stuck with glue. now that's done i am inspired and am going to paint the walls. they have been a dirty cream since we moved in and took some of the wall cupboards off. we plastered the holes and there are still patches of white polyfiller everywhere. it kind of became invisible to us after so long but it really really needs doing, and as it doesnt look like we'll be getting a new kitchen for some time, i am going to spruce it up. with some clean cream paint.

egypt · 12/04/2005 18:44

oh and in the process of my diy, managed to smash our beloved shiesha pipe (hubbly bubbly bong) from saudi arabia. bugger. dh better be extrememly impressed with the kitchen then. gulp

egypt · 12/04/2005 18:44

there's always a good reason for carpet over tiles......
