Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Oh, and so glad you're getting somewhere with the treatment for Noah.

Just to be sure is Croydon in London?? there isn't one in yorkshire that I can find on a map.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 15/02/2009 09:54

Agree with ILTMIMI Don't bother with teats after 6 months, but make sure there is no valve on the cup. It should be flowing and not 'no spill'.

Ponymum · 15/02/2009 10:44

Barnpot DD's progression from bed to cot went like this:

  1. sleeping on me when we first got home from hospital
  2. sleeping in basket on bed next to me
  3. in basket on stand next to bed (this stage lasted quite a while)
  4. in basket inside cot next to me (one night only)
  5. in cot pulled up next to bed so I could put my hand on her chest when needed
  6. in cot on her own against the wall in our bedroom. Hope that's useful!

snowlight by my calculation our LOs will be 23 weeks on Tuesday. Does that sound right?

SnowlightMcKenzie · 15/02/2009 11:20

ponymum Thanks, but you've made me panic. I'd better crack on with giving this weaning business some thought. Knowing me 26 weeks will come and go and I'll forget to feed my poor DD.

lollyheart · 15/02/2009 12:10

Fraser slept for 13 hours last night

My boobs were like rocks when i woke up, very painfull and the bed was soaked first time i have leaked.

I have started Fraser on some fruit and veg, he loves food, he opens his mouth wide open when he see's the spoon coming i give him finger food to, a fair amount goes in.

I went to visit a friend last week with all 3 dc on my own with a 3 hour car journey, we had a great time and the dc were very good

Is the Bsaingstoke meet up still on for tuesday?

Ponymum · 15/02/2009 12:27

lollyheart 13 hours?!

lollyheart · 15/02/2009 12:47

Yes 13 hours, i was to, my heart skipped a beat when i saw the time tho, i bet he wont do it again tonight.

becaroo · 15/02/2009 12:49

Hi.

Just split ribena all over the mouse mat and mouse - oops. If the computer goes wonky whilst I am posting - sorry!

carrie So sorry to hear of your friend. My cousin died the day Toby was born and its very hard...

eandz Fab news re: Noah. You have been on my mind a lot.

debs I gave ds1 a cup from 6 months with water in and am planning to do the same for Toby....started out with a 6 months + one and then gradually onto the really cheap tommee tippee sippy cups. My ds1 took his milk from a sippy cup from age one and still has his warm morning and nightime milk in one!

didnt even remember it was valentines day til I got a text from my friend! Well, we have been together for nearly 14 years now...my memory is not what it was!

Still feel rubbish, throat not good. Tom snotty. HOWEVER I think I know what has been wrong with Toby...I think he may have had a slight case of chickenpox...only seen 4 spots so i would imagine he will get it again when he is older, but it explains a lot about his behaviour over the past week or so.

Toby now has some puree three times a day - rice pudding/fruit about 10am, veg at lunchtime and fruit at tea time - after his bottles of course. The HV told me to only give half a bottle before solids and then the rest, but I dont agree with that...its more important for him to be getting as much milk as poss rather than solids at this age IMO.

Have a lovely sunday ladies x

I think we're still on for Basingstoke on Tue! I have a batch of marshmallows to bring, might make something else tomorrow too.

Yup, Croydon is just south of London...

Have reverted to the Stokke. I'm so indecisive.

Poor little T is not in great shape today. He's not been quite right since his jabs last thurs. No temperature, but generally a bit spaced all the time (can make him smile and laugh, but then he goes back to being spaced instantly), and sleeping more than normal (probably an extra couple of hours each day since thurs).
This morning I fed him when he woke at 7:15am, and at about 8:15 he threw up everywhere, and was generally not looking very with it, although still smiling etc if we coax him. He did have a 7oz bottle at 5am, so I don't know whether he just ate too much, or if he's a bit ill.
At what point am I allowed to panic about him?

DebiTheScot · 15/02/2009 16:36

yes still on for Tuesday, looking forward to it.

We've just started giving a bit of food at teatime too. We've been giving babyrice with apple and some finger food too, the babyrice gets gobbled up and he has also enjoyed broccoli and cucumber. I have a broccoli video too which I might out on facebook but its not as good as digi's
And last night he slept through from 11pm to 7.15am, maybe co-incidence but he does seem to be sleeping better after having food at tea time (apart from having a horrible cough which has disturbed him a bit)

I got the BLW book out of the library and have had a flick through it. Planning to do a mix of BLW and spoon feeding. One good suggestion I found in it was to cut ridges in things like cucumber sticks to make them easier to hold.

hopefully Hopefully you won't need to panic about T but you could start worrying if he keeps being sick and isn't weeing. Hope he's ok soon though and wasn't sick again. If you are concerned about him not being right though your doc should be happy to see him and you shouldn't feel like you're being neurotic.

Kagey · 15/02/2009 20:59

EandZ glad poor Noah can get better soon!!!

Had quite a nice Valentines day yesterday and had a nice italian meal - hmmmmm

E's cold is still not budging which is a bit annoying as I wanted to take her swimming tomorrow !!

E in a mixture of clothes; some 0-3 and some 3-6 depending on where they are from. Mothercare seem to come up bigger. However her head is a bit big, I think she gets that from DH!! She is destined to be a tiddler, as I am 5"1 and DH is 5"6.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 15/02/2009 21:23

Are any of us talking to Lollyheart atm?
At least, until she reports that Fraser's 13 hours sleep was in fact a figment of her imagination.....

Kagey Boots are the smallest fittings ime

ninja · 15/02/2009 22:05

Snowlight how was the hol?

I'm not talking to Lollyheart . I'm lucky if I get 1.3 never mind 13 hours out of M atm.

M is looking like she'll be out of her 3-6 month clothes soon (specially in cloth), and she's only just over the 50th percentile, but she's quite chunky. Just goes to show there'll all different.

For whoever asked - DD1 LOST weight when we started weaning her. She didn't sleep any better either

I have to go into work tomorrow about a day that I'm teaching on in March - I might try and see if I have a contract (as mine ran out end of dec and I haven't had a new one yet)

Those of you with older ones at school, happy Half Term!

eandz · 15/02/2009 22:06

if Noah slept through 13 hours straight, i would be soo happy i'd offer to do charity work.

lollyheart · 15/02/2009 22:28

Please talk to me

I bet he will wake every hour tonight from when i go to bed

If he does continue to sleep through will my boobs always be so hard in the morning?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/02/2009 06:58

lolly - if your lo continues to sleep through your boobs/supply will adjust. It may take just a couple of days or up to a week.

M slept from 7-6 so I woke up with watermelons on my chest this morning - ouch

foxytocin · 16/02/2009 07:25

wow to the incredible sleeping through babies.

i have finally loaded up most of the photos i wanted to load onto picasa. If you want to see it go to: picasaweb.google.com/ yfforster and remove the spaces. I did not feel happy doing a direct link somehow. The issues I have with using message boards for private information I think makes me apprehensive of doing so but feel free to have a nosy.

It was hard work with the 'slow' broadband out here.

DD2 is being chewy today. She didn't sleep much yesterday but went to bed early. I think she is just very distractible at the moment.

There is no Teething powder out here and bonjela type stuff is vile. So I have a friend bringing some out in 2 wks time.

Hopefully · 16/02/2009 08:21

Well, we had a crappo night last night. T woke pretty much hourly, and fed 3 hourly. Unsurprisingly as he was impossible to feed yesterday during the day, and also slept more than normal.
I feel so bad for making him have an injection that's obviously affected him so much, but I'm trying to remind myself how much worse him getting properly ill would be.
Luckily he seems a little bit happier and less zoned out today, so perhaps we're through the worst of it.

Foxy haven't had a proper look, but the pics of Alice in the sling are so lovely!
After abandoning the ring sling, we've been getting on really well with a normal didymos (bought 2nd hand from the same insane sling addict friend), and it's been a lifesaver the past couple of days with T being such an incredible grump.

Lolly DP has been doing the night feed with T for about 10 weeks now, so my boobs think he sleeps from 11-7 (even if the rest of my body doesn't!), and I still wake up fuller than I am at any other time of day, but not particularly uncomfortable.

All of you make me feel less awful about my fading away baby (according to HV!) - he is in at least 3-6 clothes in everything, even if he's wearing a disposable, and quite a lot of 6-9 clothes, especially in his boosted night nappy.

Barnpot · 16/02/2009 08:28

hi ladies, thanks ponymum for the advice re sleeping, i'm so weak willed, when he starts to grumble I just put him back in my bed. I know bad mum but its the only way we get some sleep, and i'll still work on the cot during the day.
I also wanted to take els swimming but hes still a bit snotty, and its half term, so decided against it for this week.
Els is still mainly in 0-3 month cloths, there are some newborn cloths which still fit him also, I'm confused with him he only seems to be growing in length, how do I fatten him up?

foxytocin · 16/02/2009 08:46

hopefully.

we will make a lentil weaver out of you yet.

izzybiz · 16/02/2009 08:49

Hi everyone, thought I would rejoin too!
Debithescot- yes it is me in Winchester, i would love to come to the meet up but already have plans now!
Will there be another in the future? I will try to make it next time if there is!

It really is amazing how different all our LOs are, George is absolutely huge! For a while he wasn't even on a centile on his chart, just floating somewhere above it!

I weighed him last week at nearly 21 weeks and he was 21lb 14oz!!
(He was 10lb 10oz at birth though!)
My Dd was 21lb at a year old!

He is still feeding every 4-5 hours, and goes to bed around 8pm, feeds at 1am then again at 6am. So not too bad, it would help if my Dd would stop waking at 5am and thinking its ok to get up!

George does the back arching too, he nearly throws himself off of my lap sometimes, he arches out of his bumbo, he barely fits in!
He will slide out of his bouncy chair too if we forget to strap him in!

Have managed to hold off weaning so far, when he was born, because of his size I had starngers telling me I would need to wean him really early, one woman told me she gave her baby rice at 10 DAYS!

I want to try and wait for the magic 26 weeks as I would really love to try the BLW.
Will be nice to compare notes with others that are doing the same!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 16/02/2009 09:43

hi everyone! glad to see babies are starting to sleep (M's had 3 straight nights, but not jumping for joy just yet as she has the habit of doing that and then waking up 2-3 times after that...). glad Noah has good docs looking after him too.

at George's 21lb 14oz!!!

and at foxy's walks on the beach and her sling collection.... I want one like that multicolored stripy one.... hadn't realised DD and your DD1 share the same name!

plusonemore · 16/02/2009 09:45

well, 2 bad nights followed by an OK one (feeds at 10.30, 2, 5 then awake on Sat night, last night just 4.30, then back to sleep til 7.30) Hoping Think it was just all the busy time over the weekend meant he didnt feed as much in the day rather than being the growth spurt hell...but who knows. Birthday wkend was fab, loved Thomas Land and it was really quiet too. Having a jammies day now tho to recover from endless stream of people, endless cooking of food and cakes and sleepless nights. Am determined not to get dressed til after lunch!

notcitrus · 16/02/2009 11:40

Anyone else got a baby suddenly more interested in anything else while feeding? Any magic way to at least make them open their mouth before swinging their head round to admire the wall and pulling your nipple off?

Been difficult to get milk into A for the last few days, and the last couple nights too, despite him wanting feeding every 4 hours...

barnpot I swear 3-6 month clothes are an imaginary construct - A still wears a few 0-3, but mostly 6-9 because the 3-6 month ones mostly didn't fit by the time he was outgrowing the first ones! Actually he mostly wore 3-6 ones in his first couple weeks when we were nervous about getting clothes on him!
