Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

ponymum Re: weaning...I started at lunchtime so if something upset Toby it would be out of his system - one way or the other! - by bedtime! Also, with Tom at school it is the one time of day I can really take my time and not be trying to do 7 other things too!

I am with meglet on the dropping things....maybe its because its our 2nd? Toby is always slinging his on the floor - I just give it back to him unless its fallen in something nasty

Been a REALLY busy week here.....Toby 6 months in 2 weeks!!! Hurrah! pasta, cereal, wheat!!!!! Cant wait! Also, can stop sterilizing his spoons etc

notcitrus · 13/03/2009 18:49

thanks starlight - he calmed down and fed nicely this afternoon, just had lots more sweet potato plus bf. I'm relieved!

Grrr, DP is upstairs persevering putting down T when he clearly isn't remotely interested. Not quite sure why the more cross T gets, the more determined DP gets that he ought to go down right now. Might go and insist in a minute.

T's been getting a bit stressed with weaning the past couple of days, so am going to try chilling out a bit for the next few days - think I got over excited after initial success and was expecting too much.

Potxola glad you're doing well.

Starlight have you given in and offered food yet?

digitalgirl · 13/03/2009 19:40

hello potxola nice to see you after so long!

A has been such a lovely smiley baby today, I had to forgive him for being up from 12-1.15 last night (feed, nappy change, feed, 20 mins of cot aerobics, sicky cot sheet change, sicky grobag change).

Some days A seems to have a good old munch on his food, other days he's completely uninterested. I have been a chav-mum and given him dairylea dunkers and a chunky chip this week (amongst other things), I do miss the days of not having to pack any snacks in the change bag. An after instructing DH and DM on the citrus fruit embargo I gave him a wedge of lemon to play with which he LOVED. A is nothing if not eclectic in his tastes, he's also had spicy humous and a bit of horseradish this week (made a grab for my roast beef sandwich despite my warnings).

More attempts to roll over today, but still not quiet making it. At least he's giving it a go.

DebiTheScot · 13/03/2009 19:49

ds23 seems a bit better this aft/eve. He slept from 1.15-3, had a feed and dozed off again on me until 4, he never does that. It did seem to cheer him up a bit and he ate some tea. Had the same as the rest of us- spag carbonara (lets not think about how much salt is in bacon) and garlic bread. Made a mess but enjoyed himself.

Don't know if I'll go for number 24, a girl might be nice but think the odds are stacked against me

oh and we don't care about things that get dropped either.

Might get him a doidy cup as he was enjoying drinking water from my pint glass earlier.

Pacita · 13/03/2009 21:03

Yes, we don't care about things getting dropped here either. Far too many get dropped now that we're playing in the high chair. I don't need to go to the gym anymore, as I spend my day doing squats to pick up stuff. Very economical.

Potxola, at least now that you've got a passport you can go to any country! I'm very jealous of your sling collection. I went to a sling tea the other day and left desperately coveting a dydimos (non-stretchy, amazingly supportive) and an ergo. I would have really liked to try a mei-tai, but did not have the time. At any rate, I wish I could buy a new sling...

Digitalgirl you must do a lemon wedge film of Alfredo, he's such an expressive baby I bet he was impossibly funny and cute. Diego has only done cucumber and I could not help but laugh at his facial expressions. A good (if frivolous) reason to get going with weaning, I guess...

DebiTheScot good to hear ds23 feeling better.

Which is the drinking cup that you ladies were recommending? It was one that allowed them to sip rather than suck if I remember correctly. Was it a tommy tippee one? They seem to have several...

potxola · 13/03/2009 21:23

Hi Digitalgirl and hopefully it is good to be back. Now I have the time because she sleeps.

I am sitting on the sofa having put Lorea in her cot after BF.
For all of you that maybe still BF your babies to sleep (that was my case until a week ago), it will happen to you too. Once Lorea knew I was not going to pick her up, she stopped crying.
Every now and then she complains for a couple of minutes in the cot, but if I get the moment right, usually taking her upstairs when she starts to scrach her ears and giving me the stare look, she is ok.
For 6 months she had been with me till I went to bed. It is lovely being here watching a film or writing to you now.

DebyThescott He ante garlic bread? It is fantastic! , you know being Spanish I cook with garlic a lot and she probably loves it, but I havent's put garlic in her food yet or paprika, another one of my favourite ingredients.

Ponymum · 13/03/2009 21:24

Thanks all. I feel OK about DD dropping her cup now. I must say my natural instinct as an adult is that the odd bit of ingested dirt can only make you stronger. But I have no experience on how this works for a baby's digestive system. I am still a bit terrified that I could make her sick through being slovenly, so just not sure how far to push it. I guess the good thing is that she has had 6 months of exclusive BF, and now she is in the best position to start handling other stuff in her tummy, be it food or germs!

notcitrus I have decided that you shouldn't be ttc yet - but for purely selfish reasons. You see, if you get succeed then that is the beginning of the end for the Sep 08 thread. Someone else will get pg a month or two later... and then we'll all end up on different new threads meeting different people and forgetting all about the good old days of Sep 08.

So here's the deal: anyone planning another baby, we all have to agree to ttc AT THE SAME TIME. That'll work, won't it?

potxola · 13/03/2009 21:39

Pacita Hi, I just have to tell you something. The Dydimos and the Storchenweige are both woven wraps. I have 2 Storchenwieges(they were both Christmas presents, the only ones)No social life or great outfits, but lots of slings to make my days colourful while I "mum" around.
The Dydimos is more expensive, but worse in quality and you can't tumble dry it. The Storchenweige or Storch is also very supportive and soft. I can carry Lorea for hours and she loves sleeping in there. I haven't tried carrying her on the back yet, but that kind of wrap is perfect for that.
There is a web "the sling station" that rates all the slings and the Storch comes out as the best one. People are very disapointed with the Dydimos, although this one has lovely patterns to choose from.
Re. going to Spain. My dh can't take time off to come just now and I can't go with both

I have put new photos of my monsters in my profile.

Ponymum · 13/03/2009 21:46

potxola - lovely photos. I think you have a happy family.

potxola · 13/03/2009 21:58

Ponymum Thanks. We just need a secure job. Lots of insecurity in the job front at the moment and the worries that come with that situation, but I try to focus on the kids.

Pacita · 13/03/2009 21:58

Potxola ¡Qué niños más preciosísimos!

I see Lorea munching on a Sophie la giraffe - it's a favourite of Diego's too. The rubbery legs seem to work wonders with his teething woes.

Thanks a lot for the tip re: Storchenweige. I'm off to check it out right now. Have you tried the Ergo carrier? People are raving about it, but I kind of like the wrap slings...

splishsplosh · 13/03/2009 22:07

potxola lovely to hear fromyou again

Carrie -May 13th ok for me as far as i know. What Starbucks on A23? Can't believe there is 1 i haven't tried! Not sure about Kidspace - great as they get older, but not much for babies. Also if you have an older one with you (I will) there wouldn't be much hope of a sit down/chat

C doesn't roll either. She loves to stand though - was standing holding onto a chair for about 5 minutes earlier this week. She's 6 months in just under 2 weeks, like starlight i'm not looking forward to the hassle of food

potxola · 13/03/2009 22:09

Hola
Yes, it is Sophie la giraffe, we must recommend it to the other mums.
Yes, I did try the Ergo, but I did not like it. I prefer the Mei-tais and wraps.
I am going to check the webs now for the Storch to see if I know of any discount code for you. They are all the same price. The price depends on the lengh. I have a 5.2 m, but I am a size 18. You probably only need a 4.6m
Little Possums do them. I have the INKA {the most popular) and the red Leo.
In the Storch photo, you only see one position, but you can use all the positions of any wrap. It is really the best, I just wish I had bought it from the start. I did not know it then.

potxola · 13/03/2009 22:17

Pacita
If you like this colour, here you have a bargain. It is a customer return, but I am sure it is in perfect condition.

Pacita · 13/03/2009 22:23

Aaah potxola that's really good! I was actually just looking at that same site, salivating at the leo natural, but I may be persuaded to change colour!

Yes, like you I really wish I had known about the Storchenweige from the start. I do like the kari-me, but it's too stretchy for them now... I was out with it today, and it ends up sagging too much.

swissmiss · 13/03/2009 22:28

Hi everyone - i know it's a bit late but would you mind another one joining the Sept 08 group? I've not yet read thru much of the thread but I hope to get to know you all.
My Sept 08 baby is my 3rd, dd2 who'll be 6mths next Friday 20th. Ds was born in Jan 05 and dd1 in March 06 so the 3 of them do a good job of keeping me busy!
About to start weaning and seem to have forgotten half of it so I hope to pick some brains if you don't mind!
I'm a sling fan too, currently use a peanut shell pouch for short trips/at home or a kari-me wrap for lenghtier times. With trying to keep hold of the other 2 it's the only way I have enough hands.

potxola · 13/03/2009 22:29

Yes. I sold the Kari-me, because Lorea was getting bigger and found it unconfortable. Te juro, sorry I swear, that with the Storch (and I will tell you the best positions when you have it) you don't notice a thing. Lorea is now almost 8 kg and it is very confortable for me and for her.You can still use the Storch in the same position than the Kari-me.

potxola · 13/03/2009 22:33

Swissmiss WELCOME TO OUR GROUP!
You are a mum of three almost under 4! Brave lady.
Hope to get to know you. I have been unable to contact the group these last three months, but I hope to get more time to myself now my dd is eating and sleeping ok.

potxola · 13/03/2009 22:34

Going to watch some Tv now. Bye

swissmiss · 13/03/2009 22:40

potxola - thanks! some days i'm not sure if it's brave or mad .
Enjoy the tv, i'm off to sort the kitchen and then to bed, i'm shattered and ds2 will want to be fed about 2.30.

Hopefully · 14/03/2009 07:29

Welcome Swissmiss! I am so impressed at anyone who can actually get out of the house with 3 children. When I met up with some other MNers, I was the only one with just one DC, and I was the last to arrive due to the challenges of getting up and dressed in the morning...

Sleep has improved dramatically here over the past week. Improved literally just before I started offering solids, which was nice in a way, as I know it isn't weaning that's causing the improvement. We are now down to 2 feeds most nights, rather than 3-4, and perhaps one or two resettlings. I know that sounds horrendous, but it's such a step forward for us, and I am talking about night wakings as anything from about 10pm-7am.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/03/2009 08:51

Lovely to see you back potxola you remind me of a soft, bosomy, kind, earth mother type. Your posts are always safe and warm

Welcome swissmiss it's lovely to have new members on the thread.

M has got 2 teeth through! I'm not sure when they first poked through, but I noticed them this morning. He was having a drink of water out of my glass and I noticed there was a sort of tinging noise when I put the glass into his mouth. So I looked in his mouth (he was not impressed) and saw two teeth on the bottom!
