Morning all. Poorly baby here as well He had a slight temp yesterday but kept his dinner down & slept through the night so I took him off to nursery this morning.

Our little dilemma has now turned into a BIG one for us. The hosp has stopped his speech therapy. Basically if he's going to go to an english speaking school he needs an english speaking speech therapist (which they don't have here) as that is the language he will learn/speak. This is OK all the time he's at school as his friends will learn English and he'll be able to interact with them. However, if we stay on the island forever it means he won't be able to interact with the Spanish community once he leaves school so will probably never be able to get a job.

If we stay forever he really should learn Spanish so that's OK for the speech therapy but it means he would have to go to a Spanish school (not something I want) but he would be able to interact with community and possibly get himself a little job when he's older. However, it means he won't be able to speak to any of our family or interact with them as none of our family speak Spanish. It would also mean that Spanish would have to be spoken at home so DH and I would have to learn the language properly. We get by and DH's spanish is quite good but our grammar is diabolical and my spanish is limited.

Also, if DH and I decided to retire to an English speaking country it would be too late for Sam to learn another language so he wouldn't be able to get involved, etc, etc.

DH and I are obviously going to discuss it & I will try and get hold of moondog to see what she says. Fortunately it's not a decision we need to make now but it'll have to be done soon. Finding out whether he can come to this school for a start is the most important thing as this will probably make the decision easier for us. The best scenario for us (as far as I see it) is that he comes to this school & then we move to an English speaking country when he's due to leave. But we'd still have to try and get him some english speech therapy somehow!

Sorry to bog you all down but just needed to unload.

oh VS, poor Alex - it's so horrible seeing them that ill isn't it.
We were all in bed by 8:30 last night - I had the shakes terribly, but managed eventually to keep some dioralyte down and drifted off at around 10 clutching my cup.
B has gone off with the CM today, he's much better, but I've got a rash across both breasts and into my armpits.
Poor Roelof too - the GPs must be so busy these days there seems to be lots of nasty bugs going around.

Soph73 · 12/03/2009 10:52

Poor you Ladybee, hope you feel better soon. These nasty bugs must be worldwide. As soon as you get over one thing something else pops up to floor you all over again

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 12/03/2009 11:08

Well, panda has dioralyte, and doc wants to see him again tomorrow if he hasn't improved.
Also have to take a urine sample

Soph73 · 12/03/2009 11:29

VS - that should be interesting shame you just can't take the nappy & they test that!

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 12/03/2009 11:37

I have a sanitary towel type thing I have to put on him in an inside out nappy and then syringe the urine out of....

LadyBee · 12/03/2009 11:48

that's funny, last time I was at the GP they were discussing getting urine samples from babies (another GP came in to talk about it while I was in), they had this wee bag that was put inside the nappy. Is it like that?

I feel so much better - have been sipping lucozade and had some cornflakes.

Soph, I'm a bit shocked that they stopped the speech therapy so quickly...

VictorianSqualor · 12/03/2009 11:54

No, apparently these are much better than wee bags, I agree tbh. I had a wee bag for DS1, at EXACTLY the same age, with the EXACT same illness.

LadyBee · 12/03/2009 12:10

ah, so if we ever end up in the same situation I'll ask for the 'new' method and piss them off impress them with my internet-based knowledge

Hope you're feeling ok.

Sal, did you get to the GP yet? Any news on the rash?

Soph73 · 12/03/2009 12:40

Ladybee - well the Foniatria did say he was still a bit young and we have got an appointment in Nov to reassess the situation. The logopedia that he was seeing did say that personally she would carry on with it because, at the moment, he is living in a Spanish environment because he goes to a Spanish guarderia. However, it's her boss that makes the decision so ..... I can go and see him though whenever if I want him to carry on, which I may do once I've managed to get my head round everything.

Had a call from the nursery about an hour ago to say Sam had thrown up his bottle. She was going to try & give him some proper food & then his medicine. If she thought he needed to go home she's going to phone. Fingers crossed he's OK cos haven't heard anything. Apparently he's not upset. Poor little sausage.

all we had for the sample bas gave was a smirk from -shithead-- gp and a 'that'll be fun'- was easy, popped him in a terry nappy and dh wrung it out. no fuss.

poor alex / roelof / ladybee

soph hope you find her soon

SalLikesCoffee · 12/03/2009 12:58

Just a quick hi and all my best wishes to all the poorly babies!!! That sound horrendous, I feel guilty for moaning now.

Our gp is shit. He said "oh". Nothing more.

Tomorrow's our paed appointment for the intolerances. I'm just going to ask her.

Good luck to you all, hope it'll all be better soon. xxx

LadyBee · 12/03/2009 13:51

oh?

Oh???

bloody hell.

SalLikesCoffee · 12/03/2009 14:06

I know, am so pissed off.

I'm so tired, haven't really had any sleep for the last 3 days. At least I'm only working until 12 tomorrow so that I can go to the paed, and then it's weekend.

How's B? And you?

Soph73 · 12/03/2009 14:07

Sal - your doc is obviously an A-grade knobber!

OP posts:
KnitterInTheNW · 12/03/2009 14:24

Another poorly baby here too! Very hot and bothered, not eating, drinking gallons, will only sleep propped up on me. I got less than 4 hours sleep last night and not all in one go so I'm shattered, but can't go and lie down because G gets upset. Took him to (lovely) GP yesterday who said one of his ears is a bit pink but not enough for it to be that, and his tonsils are quite big but not gunky, so that could develop into something. Poor little love clearly has a sore throat so I just gave him vanilla ice cream for lunch which went down well. He's dozing on me now but not settled. Luckily no throwing up and only a bit of an upset tummy but I think that's down to calpol/nurofen rather than anything else.

Last couple of days have been fun, the house we were moving into in a week or so got let to a family friend of tha landlord so for a bit it's been a worry as we had nowhere to move to (and moving in temporarily with weird in laws is NOT an option!) but took poorly George to see another an hour ago and it'll do, so took it on the spot. Phew!

EllieG · 12/03/2009 14:39

Oh no poor little poorly babies....

Hope they all get better soon as well as sick mummy ladybee x

Soph73 · 12/03/2009 15:19

Knitter - bet that's a relief for you. Well, I haven't heard anything from the nursery so I assume Sam's OK.

OP posts:
KnitterInTheNW · 12/03/2009 15:48

Huge relief Soph!

Took George to get him weighed yesterday to see if he's heavy enough for his big car seat. He's managed to put on a whole ounce () in the last 2 1/2 weeks, and is a 'whopping' 18lb 12oz. Bless him, he'll still be in his baby seat when he's 15 at this rate!

ScorpiowithabigS · 12/03/2009 15:53

Knitter if G has been poorly i wouldn't expect any weight gain (as you prob know, lol)

All these poorly babies hope they all get better.

Strart thai boxing tomorrow night, out saturday night and sunday night, phew. DH away tomorrow-Sunday.

New sofa day tomorrow and carpet tonight, yay!

LadyBee · 12/03/2009 15:54

oof Knitter, that does sound incredibly stressful. Fingers crossed your LO doesn't develop the lurgy (although it does sound quite familiar...oh dear).

I am feeling a lot better in myself, but am still not 'safe' IYKWIM
Think it'll have to be working at home tomorrow unless things change radically - there's no way I want to be trapped on a commuter train with my gurgling insides.

I'm praying that DS doesn't pick up something else today, he was going to a playgroup with CM and the plan was to do messy play..I now have visions of germy hands in mouths...oh well..

KnitterInTheNW · 12/03/2009 16:08

But he hasn't been ill for the last 2 1/2 weeks! Well he's had a cold and teething but he's been eating like a horse. Well eating a lot anyway, not out of an actual nosebag...

Hooray for new carpet and sofa!

And it sounds like you're on the mend LadyBee, and very sensible to stay at home again tomorrow.

LittleRascal · 12/03/2009 21:10

hi all. havent posted for a while- issues with typing on my computer (so stole sme time on a mates computer to do some important work things - never MNing!!!)
Been reading daily and been thinking of you all- through interviews, tests, baby illness's, sad times and changes.
all good here- nursery good (minus the bugs he picks up!), my work is going great (only 2 days a week so its great), pg going well (coming up to 16 weeks and looking huge already!!), but avoiding the dreaded chicken pox that is going around!- we going away for a week this weekend on a skiing trip, then get back and its ds dedication and early birthday party, so I would hate for him to get it now and have to cancel everything!!
anyway, hope all the babies get better soon. Spring has sprung!!! whoop whoop!!!

SalLikesCoffee · 12/03/2009 21:32

Hello LittleRascal! You sound great, it's lovely to hear from you again.

LittleRascal · 12/03/2009 22:23

hey sal. How's R's rash?
