EllieG · 22/02/2009 20:07

Oi scorpio get yer hands off Sam he's Molly's

sal - I bought a nana's jetpak soft carrier after extensive research, which was all wasted cos is a bit rubbish. So don't buy one. I have only managed to make it comfy once or twice and the straps slip and the waist strap comes apart. So back to the drawing board for carriers for me....boo. I want an ergo but is v pricey. She is not liking being in her buggy at the moment though so we need to do something or will never be able to go for another walk ever again. But she doesn't like the carrier either so am stumped. Peachy - ages ago you said I could borrow yours for a bit to try before buying - is that still as possibility if I sent you some dosh for postage? Don't worry if not.

OOOOO - peachy I forgot I have a question I need to ask you about autism/aspergers is that OK? I think it highly likely my Dad is somewhere on the spectrum, and I need to pick your brains about how to deal with a tricky situation with him which is clearly freaking him out. We are building a house with him and he is obsessing in a very logical but completely illogical (IYSWIM) about the tiny details on the plans and is really holding us up. Little things like where he will put his dinner table and measuring for stair lifts that he might never need when all we need is a broad idea at present. Is really holding up the process and I think it is a reaction to change/lots to do and he is panicing and obsessing about details and not seeing the broader picture. I have been nagging him a bit cos we need to get going but I think is just making him more and more worried etc - from your experience, what do you think the best way of dealing with him is? I normally can fine, but I think I am making him stressed but cannot just leave him to take all the time he needs. Sorry to ramble I hope you don't mind me asking.

Hey everyone

I've had a great weekend, DSD has been more chilled and nice to be around. Took Molly to the park yesterday to play on the swings and she was like was so lovely.

I will try her on some pieces of meat - I made some little chicken meatballs and she sort of liked them, so we shall see. She is now rejecting mince, when before she would eat spag bol etc with no probs. I don't think she likes meat very much, prefers veg and fish.

SalLikesCoffee · 22/02/2009 21:57

Thanks for the warning, Ellie. I've now got a fight discussion going with dh re carriers... I want need an easy-access one for nursery trips, but we will also need one that can carry the world's heaviest 15-month old for half/full day trips when in Peru in June. We've bought a hard frame backpack type thing at an NCT sale last year, which we've never used. I've now decided it will be rubbish (having never actually tried it out ). I know we should just try it out one weekend, but I'm now itching to get a nice lentil-weaving-looking-kinda-one.

I love the look of the Mei Tai Hip that Peachy linked to, whereas dh thinks it's too "girly" and want to take the backpack on holiday, but will compromise on the Ergo at a push, I think. He doesn't even know the price yet and will have a heart attack when I show him, so kinda doubt whether I can buy an Mei Tai Hip and that... So problem - do I buy the MTH and take the hard frame backpack to Peru, or do I buy the Ergo??? (But MT is so pretty!!!) Another reason why I don't really want to take the hard framed backpack is that I'd much rather use my back to carry a backpack with R's stuff in on the way to the hotel!

KnitterInTheNW · 22/02/2009 22:05

Get the MT I reckon. Have I read somewhere that there are places where you can try on different kinds of sling?

I have one of these and it's been comfy right from when G was a tiny baby, to now - we use a hip carry. G loves it, I probably wouldn't want to have him in it for trekking round Peru, but it'd do the job nicely for nursery trips.

KnitterInTheNW · 22/02/2009 22:05

Oh, and less than £20!

Denny185 · 22/02/2009 22:09

Evening all, Sal if your back is a bit naff I would tend toward a back carrier.

Front carriers pull your weight forward and you end up with upper back ache and side carriers make you shift your weight sideways closing down one side of your spine.

Although ideally use a buggy and save your back completely. OK physio has gone and Denny is back

Denny185 · 22/02/2009 22:11

Evening Knitter, ur going to be working opposite times to me, but Ive got a couple of weeks of in March for a meet up if u fancy?

SalLikesCoffee · 22/02/2009 22:25

Thanks Denny. Can I rack you brains some more, please? Both my back and dh's (his even worse - he lost feeling in his fingers about 3 years ago and it only went back to normal after months of weekly chiro & physio appointments) are a bit rubbish. If we go for a back carrier - would a soft one, e.g. Ergo, be better than a hard-framed one (or vice versa)? A buggy will obv not work in Peru, but will keep that in mind for future trips to "flatter" places.

Knitter, that's nice, looks lovely and summery. It's not fair that I can't have these pretty ones! It's my own fault really, I never take lunch breaks and sit slumped in front of my desk all day. I'll probably go blind too one of these days...

KnitterInTheNW · 22/02/2009 23:34

Hi Denny. Which couple of weeks have you got off? We won't be around the week leading up to the 21st as that's G's birthday and we'll be in Leicester, and we've got other stuff booked through March too, but we'll be able to find a day to suit us all I'm sure!

LadyBee · 22/02/2009 23:40

we had a brightspark coorie - it was a microfibre fleece one, really lovely and comfy and cosy and it doubled as a blanket. Someone nicked it out of the buggy while it was parked in my CM's garden ...at least they didn't take the buggy cheeky sods.

Back from wedding in Yorkshire, was wonderful and if we have at ours even half as good a time the bride & groom had last night, we'll be doing well. Drive up and back was pretty dire, I do all the driving so am knackered but babybee did very well and we even managed to remember most things.

Our boiler is still not fixed, engineer came first with a spare that was broken, then he turned up and discovered he'd been sent a spare for the wrong boiler - what is wrong with these people?? So...DP put on his best not-standing-for-this-we've-got-a-baby voice and they'll be back first thing tomorrow morning.

Oh, and I think I had a reason for my glums - my period arrived on the day of the wedding - hoorah! Thank goodness I've been living with the warnings from you lot that it can arrive with no indication and be quite (ahem) forthcoming, so have been carrying around enormo-pads everywhere I go. Am quite pleased in a way...have been wondering whether the bfing was going to keep it away, or if hormones were all screwy, so feel a bit more back to normal IYSWIM.

MHaH, nice to see you back but really sorry to hear about the camera and loss of photos, that's really sad. I left my phone up at the hotel this weekend and was gutted when I discovered I didn't have it and thought I'd lost the photos just from this weekend, so can imagine how disappointing it must be to lose almost the entire holiday

Peachy · 23/02/2009 01:52

Salout MTH is black, so not girly LOL.

Ellei difficult one about your dad- either distract him with something else or let him do it I would say: he'll get so stressed either.Perhaps let himmake a list of three important things to include that he can focus on,and go from there? narrow it down a bit and youmight find his brain isn't so overloaded. I find the narrowest of parameters works best.

had a lovely evening with Bas- just throwing his ball for him to toddle after and bring back. lovely that he can play like that now- he's starting to pass ds3 on things now.

EllieG · 23/02/2009 09:11

Thanks peachy that's helpful. I think I have been insisting he focus on too much stuff and he just keeps doing nothing and spinning about it now, just saying over and over 'There's so much to think about' and looking unhappy. Bless him. He is the kindest, most intelligent person I know, but he cannot cope at all with situations like this, and normally we shield him from it a bit. Have been reading up a bit about ASD to help me deal with him better - he doesn't have a diagnosis, wouldn't serve any purpose even to suggest it, but helps me help him IYSWIM.

Echo what physio Denny says - my front carriers hurt my back as do side ones now. I wanted one for long walks, think means a back job but is hard working out how to put them on by yourself!

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 09:36

Ellie stop hogging the boys on this thread for Molly!

Mimi can marry Bas he seems loverrrrrly (wonders about mimi having MIL from Bridgwater, LOL)

DH home now, yay.

EllieG · 23/02/2009 09:46

I have just signed up for the Race for life in attempt to get fit and do good. Have emailed scorpio and knitter to hound them for sponsorship if they can as I have their addresses poor things, if anyone else wants to can you email me please? Is eleanorgreen at ymail dot com (obviously with . and @ not dot and at)

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 09:49

ooh yes race for life is the cancer one, isnt it? i will email you back later

EllieG · 23/02/2009 09:50

Ta muchly x

KnitterInTheNW · 23/02/2009 10:30

Sponsered you, Ellie.

I've got friend's DS today, just about to wake both boys up from their naps and attempt to take them both out to baby group. Wish me luck! Think it'll take forever with 2 car seats to strap & unstrap and double buggy to faff with. Normally I just carry G or stick him in the sling from the car.

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 10:50

oh ffs more silly little bitches going on to DH 'I'm sorry but i thought i should tell you how fit you are looking lately, naughty i know!xxxx'

Oh Really. We Shall See.

paranoidmummy · 23/02/2009 11:34

That's shocking scorpio! Was that on his phone? Urgh that would make my blood boil. On a positive note, nice to know you have a hottie dh

Haven't read other posts, just wanted to say hi. I'm back at work pt now so what with that, ds2's appts, being knocked up and just generally being a person I'm pretty crap at being on here again. Got my cvs booked for 2 weeks tomorrow, then have to wait a fortnight for results . I'm putting on a very brave face to dh but, if i'm honest, I'm pretty bloody terrified!! Hence another reason I'm trying to veer away from sites like this that remind me I'm preg. Want to keep it at that back of my mind til I can celebrate.

Sorry, very 'me me me'. ope all of u are well. Has any of your babies had this d and v bug? Knocked ds2 for 6 bless him. He has lost a few ozs tho, which I secretly think has done him some good! He was on the plus side a little!

paranoidmummy · 23/02/2009 11:35

size not side

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 11:39

i just think its a little bit funny, it happens quite alot and he has just ignored her, so thats fine. Feel like telling her to fuck off but won't.

Really good luck for your cvs.

paranoidmummy · 23/02/2009 11:45

That's good, at least u can see the funny side. I'd probably have my air rifle out! Not that I have an air rifle but I'd be pretty cross!

Thanks for the luck, I feel like I need it!!!

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 11:47

well i find it funny this time(me & DH are very close again), but normally i dont and it sort of dents my self esteem, im not sure how, but there you go!

Peachy · 23/02/2009 11:48
