i expressed today so DH could give DD a bottle tonight and man, did it ever do a number on my nipple. its not so bad when DD latches on a certain way, but boy, its tender.

i can't get enough of feeding laying down. its my reading time, although i only ever read about a paragraph before i'm asleep.

happyathome · 14/02/2009 07:12

hi all,
just popping in to say thanks very much for all the congratulations and well wishes you posted to me on the other thread.Don't know if anyone say my last post as straight after everyone had moved over to the new thread.
glad to hear all the babies got out safely and are well.My Jack is doing well now. He's got up to 10lb1 this week(birth 9lbs1...born on 4th Jan...sorry forgot how to paste and all that so have'nt changed me on the list).
I've been housebound up till now really.Too weak/sore and ill since birth.Had a 9 hr failed labour, then failed forceps then c-section.All worth it of course.Currently still battling with my c scar which burst 3 times and had to be cleaned/dressed/antibiotic cream/oral antibiotics(which haven't worked, now waiting on swabs back from lab on Monday)...a right PITA.It is apparently common to have an infected scar/not willing to heal...any others with experience/advice of this?.
Only managing to pop on here for the odd 10 minutes here and there to at least read posts.Had loads of time to MN in PG.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of you anyway and i love all the names you've chosen.
I'm having similar experiences to you all...cluster feeding(very slow as J falls asleep loads so took to expressing at 3 weeks and it worked...do it as he feeds on other boob to save time, then he gobbles bottle much quicker instead of slow 2nd boob,or use expressed for later when tired or trying to eat tea and pass J to someone else to feed.I started feeding lying down in hospital, now do mix of that and sitting up.I am big boobed but can manage lying down...so there's hope for those of you struggling.Bit hard work on my arm though that i try to put over the top of his head.J a pretty good latcher now,so i think thats why it works.Still get sore boob/nipple days.
take care everyone.my thoughts are with you, even if my typing fingers aren't.
i wish i had a laptop then i could catch up whilst feeding, but DH using comp constantly now for work and it's in messy, uncomfy, cramped office.Trying to give 61/2 yr old DD some attention inbetween J's marathon feeds too...hard going.
hope all your half terms run smooth.
Oh,i had mastitis too about 4 weeks ago,so sympathise Spink. It's agony.Hope yours is better now.I had oral antibiotics and painkillers for mine.Got through breastfeeding.Counsellor said feeding of mastitis boob is reaaly good and may even clear it without tablets sometimes. My sheer determination to suceed has got me through BF,and i'm still going(failed with my 1st DD,many months bottle guilt e.t.c. so this is my 2nd and last chance to BF.).Reckon my use of nipple shields, lansinoh before and after feeds, boobs hanging out in the fresh air all the time(not in public!),leaving breastmilk on them to dry and expressing to give them breaks has helped me survive...also asking for help, but using instincts about dodgy latch and expressing/dummies soon.
bye
happy x

happyathome · 14/02/2009 07:33

ps/doesn't time go fast now compared with forever dragging PG?!...in fact too fast..don't want J to grow up,already 6 weeks on Sunday...cute as he is

Party at pub went swimmingly because amazingly he fell asleep in the car on the way there, and stayed asleep at the very noisy pub! At least for 25 minutes, long enough to be admired and for us to say hello - when he started waking up we legged it! Don't you love it when you meet people or have visitors, and your little angel stays asleep?!

Good to hear your news Happy; can't believe your LO is six weeks already. Nye is only 2 weeks but it already seems like he has been here forever.

Am perservering with the BF but last night did start feeling formula envy as I would be able to bargain with OH for a proper night's sleep - that must be an amazing thought. I am going to try expressing next week (will be nearly 3 weeks then ) - when I try it by hand I can only get a few drops, but I have an electric pump here so will try that. Then OH can do a feed once in a while.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed today really - have a massive long list of things to do (like claim child benefit, any clues?!) but can't quite bring myself to start... Instead am sitting here on computer eating fruit and nut choc bar instead of having breakfast while I have the chance (he's asleep, yey!).... it's not that I am having a particulary hard time, I think he's actually quite an easy baby despite heavy feeding demands, but sometimes it all seems a bit endless - knowing in another 2 or 3 hours you will be in the same place, offering up your poor, sore nipple....

i think being big boobed is key to being able to nurse lying down... they become a little like silly puddy and can be manouvered and shaped to a comfortable position and easy access for baby... well, at least that's what i'm experiencing.

dd finds her way if she needs to feed at night now. i realized that the last couple of nights. kinda freaky, being woken up like that. both times i happened to be lying on my side so my big ol' nipple was right there. the milk monster probably sniffed the droplets coming from it and squirmed her way towards it. for the most part she sleeps at night and wakes happy at about 7. i still can get in proper exercise most days and a shower every day, (i just can't go without a shower), but by the time i'm dressed she wants to be held... and that's it for the day. she won't lay down, only wants to be held be me. good thing she loves her sling or i'd never get anything done. every day i try something new that i can do with her in the sling. today we're going to try raking.

hope everyone is having a great weekend

chefswife · 14/02/2009 19:42

dog don't be so hard on yourself. just apologize and tell them you love them. happy bd to your dd as well.

rrrayray · 14/02/2009 21:09

missJ good luck with baby whisperer.

moose i too have been doing the same with the baby whisperer, just using it loosely as guidence and taking bits and pieces from it. not following it totally. Also, finding it hard to keep her awake for very long after feeds.

chef LoL @ you raking with bubs

Anyone else just not got around to registering birth? DD 3 weeks yesterday and still havent done it!! naughty me!

There you go Starbucks Added happy too.

DS now 11lb 12oz!! that's another 1lb and 7oz in 2 weeks! I have to stop eating so much chocolate

Must dig out my baby whisperer book. Never had much luck with it with DD (she had reflux badly so wasn't very trainable) but DS is so placid by comparison that I'm sure it might help.

ray - asked HV about swaddling for you. They no longer recommend an age to stop. In fact she said they have only just started recommending swaddling again after a time when it wasn't advised as there were concerns over people overheating their babies nanny state or what!! Anyway she said that they say no swaddling once they can roll and usually best to swaddle under arms after the mori (sp?) reflux weakens. Light clothing only underneath and no additional blankets, but I guess that only applies if you are swaddling with a regular blanket?? ime the swaddling blankets are very thin, but maybe that's for a reason.

Dog - wholeheartedly agree with chefswife who put it so well, don't be so hard, and tell them you love them. Bound to be an emotional time right now, for them too to some extent.

Got some smily pics of DS last night - have put them on my fb profile. I'm still cooing over them! Right, best go, double poo change required (DS and DD seem to poo in sync )

LenniEd · 15/02/2009 10:29

EPPM - sorry to hear about colic. Taking turns for a break helped us with DD. Will he be put in a sling? That also helped but took DD a while to like it. Moaning to us on here might be best bet though, always here to listen

Love the smiley pics LenniEd, and can't wait till my little man starts smiling!

EPPM sorry to hear about colic; I live in fear of Nye developing it... taking turns sounds like a good idea. Also heard getting into warm bath together and keep topping up with warm water can help?

Have a big crack in left nipple - ouch but am persevering... looking forward to expressing when i get to 3 weeks so that i can get a break from constant feeding!

OH working today and feels like all i have done is feed and try to get him to sleep... finally he went down at 3.30pm so I ran around putting laundry away, tidying up etc - then made myself a lovely coffee (decaff, boringly) and was just sitting down at computer to catch up on stuff when he woke up! I thought newborns were supposed to sleep all day?! Now back to the 1 handed typing with LO hiccupping on my lap... bless him.

Did anyone remember Valentine's Day yesterday?!

hello - jamie is feeding like mad! been discharged by the miwife, he seems a placid baby which is good

just getting very stressy over the business (DH is trying to do loads while I'm off and is working til midnight every night)

chefswife · 15/02/2009 20:25

lennied at least they poo in sync so you don't feel like all you do is change diapers.

giveadogahomebirth that is very sweet indeed. brought a smile to my face.

the raking went well with DD in the sling. had to take it slow but i'm finding it all a bit zen now doing everything a little bit slower. although she had a big poo that squirted out the sides of her diaper and coated the sling. i didn't notice. she didn't wake up or flinch. i felt really guilty (sort of) for letting her lay around in her poo but then she didn't fuss and i am living by the 'let sleeping babies sleep'. so the guilt lasted all of about 2 minutes. have some more raking and other cleaning up of the 'garden' and the sun is shining like crazy today so i'm off to play in the dirt.

happyathome · 15/02/2009 23:18

hope you're all ok today.
thanks for adding me to list Lennied.Kind of you.
.Life starting to get busy.I just want to stay in my cave really with Jack and room in forever...don't want to rush around yet and face people.
take care
happy and Jack x

My goodness i have the noisest sleeping baby ever...sometimes i SWEAR she is awake she is making so much noise and limbs flying everywhere.

My to- date angel baby seems a bit unsettled at the moment. i'm wondering if shes having a growth spurt? (shes 3 weeks) we had been lucky enough that she was sleeping totally through the night, but now shes started waking for a 4am feed, and in the daytime seems CONSTANTLY hungry (she makes it VERY obvious its food she needs not anything else) i feel like a feeding machine

she is finally out (well its only her legs that are too long for them) her tiny prem baby suits... but newborn stuff still kind of swimming on her!!!

lenni thanks for asking HV about swaddling!!!
