Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Usual mayhem here, adn for all we got DD, she played all day with some second hand duplo (DS's old Little Robots stuff that he wanted to give to DD, bless) and £1.50 from poundstretchers money tin and a handful of loose change). Could have saved a fortune . Actually she loves her bike and the wee rag doll we got her, and gran and grandad got her a dolls house which has been a hit. Poor bumble got a whoozit and some books and a share of some bath toys with DD, but as he slept most of the day was none the woser!!

no offense taken barbs I hope you can get it cleared up quickly and that it hasn't gotten into your milk ducts (it shouldn't if there is no nipple trauma and you haven't been taking ABs). re the engorgement....try and feed as much as possible, and if bubs isn't feeding too well (which is understandable with a sore mouth) then express as much as possible. If you are only expressing to take off the amount that the baby would usually take, then you shouldn;t have a probelm with further engorgement, but if you do, just express when it gets too uncomfortable, but a little less each time, iyswim.

yorky, DSs mouth was thick and white (like a carpet of fuzz) as opposed to opaque and white (like milk coating a glass i suppose) when he has thrush and if you scraped the white away he was very red underneath.

I feel bloody awful and think I have tonsilitis as my tonsils are covered in white spots and I can hardly swallow. Can't drink anything hot and I've had to chew food to a paste before swallowing it down. I should go to the docs, but when????? I still have the seven day course of flucloxacillin that I got for mastitis but never took, and tempted to start self medicating tomorrow if it isn't any better.

bumble has been poorly too and we had to resort to giving him calpol on Christmas eve and then again yesterday. I know he is only just coming up for eight weeks but he weighs about 13lbs so we figured he could take it. He was so miserable (I think he has a throat lurgy as well) and had a temperature.

DD is also choked with the cold and has about six teeth all coming in at once so has been a misery.

bumble is now almost completely nocturnal . He was awake from 10pm until 5am, only seeming to nap while he fed. Today has been a challenge to say the least with the older two, especially as we had to cancel our plans and have been cooped up indoors.

good news....the Wii is good fun and I am now a championship bass fisherman

Off to start a thread in sleep about nocturnal babies!!

Evening - peace finally reigns in the Ceebee household!! Have had MIL here since 11ish yesterday (although we did ship her out to a local hotel last night ) and she eventually left at about 6ish tonight...phew!!

Apart from one minor altercation where I apparently 'shouted' at her to leave DS1 alone (he was clinging to me while I was trying to get lunch ready and the more she was hovering and saying 'come to Grandma' etc, the more he was clinging and it really wasn't helpful so I asked her to just leave him be - but apparently I shouted at her), it was ok.

DS1 was fine yesterday but had a complete meltdown when we were having lunch today - he had got overtired and went into tantrum mode - a quick nap and he was fine again. Although he does have the attention span of a flea so has been jumping from one thing to another for the last 2 days - meaning the house now looks like a bombsite!

Sam has been an angel - he is so content (thankfully he seems to have got over his unsettled phase - whatever it was!) that he has barely cried all 2 days, has been passed from pillar to post without any complaint etc.

Daisy sorry you are all feeling so poorly - maybe F has got whatever you have got?? Trust me, I will be using Calpol, if necessary, as soon as Sam is anywhere near the 8 weeks mark!!

Barbs I really hope you got some good advice on your other thread - what lousy timing!!

Can I just admit that I am now dying for the festive period to be over - I am ready to start getting Sam into a routine but there really is no point at the mo. Also feel so fat that I really want to diet, but again, got so much crap in the house, there is no point. Roll on 5 Jan!

Right for the Trafford Centre meet-up, so far we have me, Pinky, LadyBuzz, Yorky and Daisy - any other takers before we set a date?

littlesaintNIC · 26/12/2008 20:52

Hi everyone. Merry Christmas

Calpol when J was released from hospital at 3 weeks old they told us we could give him 2ml of calpol if needed. He was only 6lb 12.5oz at birth so smaller than most of the other babies on here. With that in mind I would suggest that you'll be fine giving 2ml, even 2.5ml if your baby is above 10 / 11lb (J's weight now)

Talking of which health scare J is ill, has a very nasty cold. Threw up an entire feed this morning (he's rarely sick and even with reflux he just dribbles a little milk). He has slept on his Gran and Grandad all day. I have tried to sleep when I can in preperation for the inevitable long night ahead. As with the Bronchiolitis, he can't breathe when lying down.........

I am hoping he hasn't got RSV and it's a repeat of 5 weeks ago......

Interestingly he was screaming the house down the last 2 nights with Colicky pains - very bad tummy ache. I have read that an upset tummy goes with flu in babies..... Praying it's not flu either!!!

I gave J Calpol last night and will do tonight. If 2ml was ok 5 weeks ago then it's fine now too!!!

Oh, and me and MIL have developed colds, she's lost her voice and I have an awful sore throat and a bit of ear ache... No wonder J feels dreadful.

Keep an eye on the food intake of the little ones, wake them up to feed if they become too sleepy, I will wake J every 4 hrs in the night as he's feeding less so he needs more feeds to get enough fluid in him. It was the lack of food that made him go down hill very quickly last time, but he was very young and I could not keep him awake to feed for love nor money.

Big hugs to all those who are poorly.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 26/12/2008 21:11

thanks for that Nic

soprry to hear J is poorly again and I hope it's "just" a cold and doesn't affect his chest again. Can you contact the hospital dorectly if he were to get worse again or would you need to go through your GP?

I feel awful this evening. I hope it's just the tonsilitis and lack of sleep but I really feel like I'm struggling at the minute and not enjoying bumble at all . It's got to the stage that when he cries I just want him to shut up, and DH and I seem to be testing each other's resolve to see who can hold out the longest before picking him up. Poor DH is getting as little sleep as me as he sits up with him while I snooze between feeds, but I resent the fact that he is trying to snooze on the sofa right now and expects me to pick him up when I've been doing it all day and just want a break. It just feels so bloody desperate and never ending . and as for gina fucking ford keeping them awake in the day means they sleep at night......firstly, arses it does, and seciondly, how the hell dp you keep a baby awake? once bumble is off you can dangle him by one leg (not that I do, mind!) and he wouldn't wake up.

feeling very sorry for myself.

twinklingfairy · 26/12/2008 21:50

Hello all
Sounds like christmas has passed pretty uneventfully for most (not so many posts) but not so good for daisys house and barb. You poor guys, illness and mastitis/thrush
I was so frightened, the day before I went to Inverness with DS, that I had thrush. It seems like I have hit all the bad points you can, throughout both my pregnancies and then BF with DD. I really didn't want to tick the thrush box too. But, thankfully, I was mistaken and it was just a wee bout of mastitis. But, just cos I had it before, I spotted it quickly and dealt with it quickly too. Mind you 'dealt with' I am not sure what I did other than feed, feed, feed.
I hope both nasties leave your houses, daisy and barbs, as soon as possible.

In my house, Jonathan seems to have turned a corner. I am not saying he is a dream baby but he is certainly not the constantly creaking door that he was a week ago. Bliss.
And today has been an especially good day. Though I do seem to be able to cope with it all sooooo much better if I just land myself into my mums house. And it is even easier if my sis and her BF(is that the shortening for Boyfriend?? but also for Breast feeding)
Anyway, if they are also there, life is a dream. He just takes DS from me at the drop of a hat. So much so I am getting used to simply handing him over and relaxing
But I seem to be able to cope as long as I don't try to do so all on my own at home.
Hands down to you girls who are miles from family, I could not cope without mine.

Anyway

littlesaintNIC · 26/12/2008 21:51

Daisy. I have the same issue with the keeping awake thing. J has slept since 3 this morning / last night. I am waking him for feeds every 3hrs or so since I first got him up at 8 this morning - have had to move GF along an hour so we can have dinner at 5pm rather than 8 pm.

I feel pants too and, thankfully, PIL are happy to comfort him / hold him while he sleeps. The DHs just don't understand that we need a break too. I moaned to MIL about it last night.

I think that when a baby is ill you have to accept their temporary sleeping pattern. Just keep to the feeds. The only addition to this is that I WILL wake him during the night after about 4 hrs as he's feeding for less time and fluid is vital at the moment.

I can't ring hospital directly now although I still have the number.......

It's going to be a hard few days / week but THIS TOO WILL PASS!!!!!!

Big hugs hon.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 27/12/2008 11:05

thanks Nic

expressed 7ozs last night, in bed for 10.30....DH brough bumble to me at 3am (he had been awake the whole time!), he fed went straight to sleep and that was him unto gone 8 this morning . I have had the best sleep since I was about 4 months pregnant and feel sooooo much better this morning, and although my throat is still awful, I can swallow without crying again.

sorry for my self indulgence last night, but sleep deprivation, illness and half a bottle of wine are not a good combination

twinkling, I'm glad J has turned a corner and things are getting better for you. BF can be boyfriend, best friend or breastfeeding...very confusing at times, especially if you are talking about getting your BF to look after the baby as your BF doesn't appreciate that sometimes you need a bit of a break from BF

I was sooooo close to breaking out the medised for bumble last night.....or dosing myself with prescription strength co-codamol so he would get the soporific effects through my milk

Big boys out fishing, DD at the GPs, bumble asleep and I have MN and Saturday Kitchen a tin of Quality Street (toffee, caramel and fudge) for company......nice.

H

I was typing away not realising that I had knocked the mouse pad and the cursor was over the post message button

anyway was trying to post.....Have a good weekend and don't spend too much money in the sales!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 27/12/2008 12:51

thanks mumsnet

littlesaintNIC · 27/12/2008 18:22

Hi Daisy. Glad you're feeling better today. We took J to emergency doc this afternoon..... He's on steroids for 3 days as the wheeze we felt wasn't just nasal . It probably is rsv so we need to keep our fingers crossed that he doesn't get worse.

Doc was really nice. Said that the best way to clear his nose is a real test of love... place your mouth around baby's nose and suck it out yourself!!!! UGH!!!!

OblomovOYeFaithful · 27/12/2008 19:30

Thanks to mummynic for reflux advice. sorry that her little one is not well.
glad to see ceebee survived mil visit - tee hee.
Sorry to see barbs bf soreness.
Daisy, have posted on other thread. sorry you are having a mare. ds had a couple of good nights, but has now reverted to type. and we are struggling again. I gave him the stuff that my GP gave me, to deliberatly make him drowsy.
AND I have been giving 8 wk old capol, for the last week. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

I am typing to you all, on my new ACER ASPIRE laptop - christmas present from dh -it is only 10 inches - ohh err missus. We normally only buy eachother a tiny gift, for £10 or £20, because we normally want for nothing, and if we want anything any other time of the year, we just buy it. I think last year he bought me a bar of nut chocolate and a cook book. I was well happy with that.
So, it was a bit of a shock to get such a big present. But he bought it so that "you can mumsnet, anywhere in the house, whilst bf" - bless him, thwe man is a STAR, for recognising my need to MN.

Today we went to Kingston. I bought soem black boots. and two pairs of killer heels - 4.5 inches. Obs , whose feet are as wide as they are long - seriously, only a size 4.5, never buys killer heels, so this is new. \I feel all sexy. God knows where I will wear them. I kind of intended to wear them to work, when I return to work in sept. I want to return as a glam supermum. I was never glam before. I may need monkeym's help witht he glam bit

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 27/12/2008 19:52

hey obs, i bought black boots too (dh's xmas prez to me). they are killer heels for me. about 2inches!!! and some skinny jeans in my new size 16 (which can only juuuuuust squeeze into) and some tops in next half price. i am well 'appy.

Pinkyminkee · 27/12/2008 19:53

hello. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Shoe shopping sounds fabby, obs mummynic so sorry J is poorly.

I've been to hospital with Imi today- I must have had about 15 mins sleep laST night. Imi was crying for most of it, poor thing, most definitely not herself.

The other two have had their turns earlier in the week- as they have both had a horrid throat infection, and now it was Imi's turn, so she has drops, antibiotic this ans that and calpol- all seems to be working as she is now sound asleep!

I was going to have to wait ages as it was really busy, but Imi did a huge vom right on cue and the doc appeared very promptly. The only real comedy bit was trying to get her to wee into the pot- there must be a better way to get a wee sample from a baby.

Anyhoo, that's us, otherwise a very good Christmas thus far, though I would have loved it if Santa had brought me a lie-in for Christmas!

Pinkyminkee · 27/12/2008 19:54

Very jealous of all this sakes shopping- much more fun than the hosp!

littlesaintNIC · 27/12/2008 21:06

God I am so grateful to have the PIL down. J seems to have colic for real now too and they are happy to walk the floor with a grumpy baby!!! Bless them, it's a shame I'm on the south coast and they are in Scotland!!!

Thanks for the kind words. I am very worried about James and the bad chest he has. Hopefully his little body will cope better now he's 'older'

I should have gone to Next at 5am, I go at that time every year normally but my cs overhang is still present so no point in buying nice clothes yet.....

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 27/12/2008 21:06

sorry to hear about the DCs pinky and DS Nic. fingers crossed they are all better soon. I have the same nasty throat infection....just horrible.

thanks for your input on my sleep thread pinky and obs

ooooh, obs hark at your killer heels......you can always wear them in the bedroom if you have nowhere to go . And wow at your DH; I can't imagine mine sanctioning my MNetting to that extent

sales shopping sounds good merri. I'm not buying anything else until I've got rid of this belly a bit. The Wii Fit is so far still in it's box though .....but I have been ill she says desperately trying to justify herself.

twinklingfairy · 27/12/2008 21:35

of those able to hit the sales.
It would be 200 mile round trip for me to get anywhere near them! Then, no point, cos got no money. With all my, and DSs, trips to hospitals, DH is drastically low in money cos had to take so much time off (mostly unpaid, dependancy leave)

Fed up with him at the mo anyway. 2 arguments in 2 days. Mainly cos of his ego. I must rememeber not to question anything he does and to always pander to it, doh silly me!
Is it clever to try to dress a 7llb baby side ways over one knee/thigh, but baby on his back?
or to keep an open fire going with wood alone, using kindling to restart it when this just does not work? It needs coal! Not according to my DH?
Stupid little issues but he would make a war of them than admit to being wrong!
grrrrr
He has only been off work for 3 days too!

Ok, I will give him one point.
He has been taking DD downstairs, leaving me with DS in the mornings. Has been so lovely to relax with him knowing DD is being cared for and fed

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 27/12/2008 21:54

twinkling, tis a silly time of year for friction and arguments over nothing.

at your 200 mile round trip to the shops; thank heavens for internet shopping, eh?

My mum and dad loved your neck of the woods, but I haven't been any further north than Inverness....one day I will do a whistle stop tour of the bits of Scotland I haven't been to....and will drop in for a cup of tea

Is J in those nappies yet?

littlesaintNIC · 27/12/2008 22:17

Ooh, I got a Wii and wii fit for Christmas!!! Mine are still in their boxes for 2 reasons:
James is too ill for me to play video games and we are doing shifts to hold him upright 24/7 - I've had a 2 hr nap and a 1 hr nap in the last 36 hrs!!!! I dip out due to BF - i have expressed a bottle for someone to do the 2nd morning feed (will be at a reasonable time) tomorrow so I can [looks hopefully to the heavens and prays that God is listening] have a 5hr sleep tomorrow morning some time.
2nd reason is that doc said, on my 6 week check, that I need to wait until 10 / 12 weeks before doing anything strenuous at all!!! I did have a nasty cs.... Chocolate it is then, until Feb at least!!!

Sorry to hear about arguments twinkling there's been unrest here too. Lack of sleep and Chrimbo seems to do it!!! Big hugs to you.

twinklingfairy · 27/12/2008 23:02

Yupdaisy Have sent you an email.
But I am so proud of myself. I want a big badge that proclaims 'I am a real napy user' to the world!!

DH has been and apologised for his wrong doings, after claiming that he had forgotten what we were arguing about I soon reminded him so he knew what he was sorry for.
Good trick me thinks but I ain't falling for it.
Then he made me a chocolate banana thing with strawberries
Yum!
Oh alright then he ain't such a bad old stick.

It is lovely up here daisy I wouldn't want to bring my children up anywhere else. Can't get safer than that. Also my neighbour totally knows my comings and goings. You coulnd't get better neighbourhood watch. (in the nicest possible way)
Only downside is the cold. brr. But never snow cos of the salty air and not a whole heap of sun, well not the warm kind anyway.
ah well, rough with the smooth and all that
