Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 16/12/2008 22:32

Oh, poor you . My MIL has rheumatoid arthiritis and the drugs she takes are pretty strong and nasty.

My coealiac disease (also an auto immune disease) cleared up in pregnancy as well so I ate what I wanted. I'm now having a hard time getting back on track being gluten free and worrying whether me eating gluten in pregnancy will have affected DS2's chances of developing the condition.

I'm also eating waaaaaaay too much chocolate, sweets and biccies, but BFing gives me a really sweet tooth. I have lost about a stone as well, but need to lose at least another two! After Christmas and New Year!!

littlesaintNIC · 16/12/2008 23:40

Evening. Sorry I haven't been on today. I have been doing GF again and, having had 5 hours sleep decided to do housework rather than come on here / rest. BIG mistake as he hasn't settled well this evening and I'm shattered now!!!

Daisy I mentioned his shoulder to the HV yesterday, she said to speak to the doc when I see him for my 6 week check on Thursdauy. I'm sure his knees click too. I'm not too worried about it as I doubt there's anything they can do and I can't imagine what causes it!!!!

dingdongDOZYMAREishigh · 17/12/2008 09:40

morning all I am soooo much better today having spent hours online last night organising and ordering presents for everyone. What was stressing me more than anything, was the fact I hadn't even started the kids stockings (which takes forever as I would rather spend a bit more on things i know they will get mileage out of rather than plastic tat) Can now give a huge sign of relief as all done Thanks for all your concern, I mentioned to the HV that I had had a bad day and could cry at the drop of a hat and she also said that if was PND would be that daily (thankfully it's not) and so I therefore conclude, that I have just been worryhing about the stress of christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heartmum it was me asking about homeschooling - I think you are amazing doing that with a newborn you must have to be quite self disciplined to do that, do you get an ofsted report

zonedout sorry to hear of your diagnosis, hopefully you can get some meds that make it ok/bearable. is that the next step????

housework calling, hello everyone else xx

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 17/12/2008 11:22

Daisy, thanks so much for the info. I have added to favourites. You are a STAR, and never sound know-it-all. [I know I do sometimes but can't be bothered to rewrite in kinder tones!!!]. I will definitely be keeping a close eye as it got quite bad with ds1, and the worse it gets it's kind of harder to sort it out. I was on citalopram before and it was wonderful. I was a bit sceptical...and sadly it didn't cure the Chronic Fatigue, but definitely made me a happier person who felt she had friends etc. I also abandoned mumsnet to some extent which is a good sign for me [online chat=not interacting much with the 'real world' ]. Hopefully I can manage a healthy balance this time.

zonedout, that is really, really hard for you. Wow. My aunt has both psoriasis and the arthritis and has struggled for years and years. She is an amazing woman though (she's a HV!). I know the meds can be v damaging - she had a very bad heart condition (her kids are now well into their 20's though so she's been on them for years) and was recently TOTALLY CURED, just by a miracle. It was amazing.

Dozy. glad you feel so much better today. I don't know how people managed without online shopping. Or creating online photo calendars which all my family are getting this xmas!

I feel a bit but probably because I have a bad cough and the babies are both very snuffly and not happy or settled or feeding v well. My boobs exploded by the time I got up (9.40am ), I was soaked through, because I couldn't be bothered to pump in the night. I feel so much better now I have drained them!

Margot, how is plumski today? Did the cold develop? I have come up with a new nickname for Baby Awissa. She is now 'the podgkin'. Man she is getting very big and chubbly.

ceebee, the 10/10 club was trying to eat 10 fruit and veg/ nuts a day. It's just a support thread run by Franny a bit like ante-natal with ideas for what to eat etc. It was a bit beyond me tbh, but I did feel a lot better.

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 17/12/2008 11:34

P.S zonedout, I don't mean to sound insensitive/ flippant. I was really moved by your post, because I know a little of how bad it can be. Just wanted to reassure you that her kids are great/ love her to bits (2 still at home!!), and she has survived it very well indeed though it wasn't easy.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 17/12/2008 13:23

woohoo...a better night was had by all here. F went back to sleep at nine and didn't need snother feed until 11ish. I took him up to bed with me and he fed again and settled by 1am. Next wakening was 4.40 and then he slept on top of me (because I fell asleep again) and was looking for more milk at 5.30.

So not a bad night, comparatively. Couldn't have asked for a better two stints....I just wish it didn't take two hours to feed/wind/change/feed/wind/settle. But I must get into the habit of going to bed at 9 and getting a few more hours sleep in.

6 week check today and doc happy that all well. As his tummy symptoms are improving, and he is obviously thriving he is happy that it has just been gut immaturity and that it will continue to get better. His pimply spots are just baby acne, and he was impressed with his muscle tone and how strong he is as F was fighting to keep his legs closed him when the doc was trying to examine his hips. He now weighs 12lbs 5.5ozs compared to 11lbs 2 weeks ago and is on the 75th centile for height and almost 91st for weight!

the worst bit of clinic was dealing with DD as well....I felt so stressed by the time we were finished. but, tis over with until immunisations in a few weeks time.

Got DS1s nativity play at school this afternoon and wondering how I'm going to juggle two children. There is nowhere to leave the pram so I either walk, with DS2 in a sling and DD in her little folding buggy, or take the car; likewise DS2 in sling and DD walking from car to school, or take the pram and leave it outside and hope no-one nicks it! My stress levels are rising just thinking about it.

and, on a lighter note; I heartily recommend the level of sleep deprivation going on here, as everyone I have met when out about with the babies has told me how well I look

chocolategal · 17/12/2008 14:23

hello

daisy did they suggest anything for the baby acne?
glad you had a good night, altho it still sounds kinda tough

merry im with you on the photo calendars!

glad your feeling better dozy
i just want to thank you again for sharing your experiences and reassurance on the kidney issues. we had our follow up ultrasound today and kidneys the same, so to continue with the antibiotics and get repeat ultrasound in 3months

AwayInaMargot · 17/12/2008 14:29

Glad you hade a better night Lacks. F sounds similar to Plumski in that it takes a minimum of 2 hours from her waking to getting her back down again
Dozy you sound so much better - it's amazing how xmas can be so stressful, then once you've organised the pressies you feel so much better. Good on you!! I'm sure you're going to have a fabby xmas, no doubt with lots of pink champagne, caviar etc. I bet it's like an episode of Nigella at your house!!

MerryMari Plumski appears to be OK - no signs of a cold as such. Health Visitor came today and was very pleased with everything - she is one Month old today and has gained 1kg (2.2 lbs!) so she is now a smidgen under 10lbs. HV said she was a "proper chubster* !! She has gone into a higher percentile group. Pleased all the BF is doing her good.
After I stripped her ready for weighing and lifted her up, Plumski chose that moment to projectile poo and wee ALL over me, the HV, the floor, herself....you've never seen such a mess. I was mortified .

DH went out for his work lunch thing yesterday and rocked up home about 9pm, absolutely s*it-faced. He didn't even call to say he would be late. He was so smashed he fell down the stairs so I barely said a word and instructed him not to touch the baby and to sleep in spare room. Heard him violently vomming at 3am this morning.

He was very sheepish this morning and has been running round doing things .
Oh dear - the Plumski has awoken...

AwayInaMargot · 17/12/2008 14:44

Put hoover on and Plumski now back asleep!! Can't really use that trick in the middle of night though!!

misdee · 17/12/2008 14:50

sorry [sobs][sobs]

two [people today saw sophies face and said 'oh she has eczema'

so thats 4 out of 4 children with eczema.

bugger!

also she has over-granulation on her belly button, got the usual response from hv 'keep an eye on it, if not better in 2 weeks see gp' it keeps bleeding and weeping, its been like it since the cord fell off.

i know skin problems are minor compared tp what othr people are going through, but i still feel so raw about it, as its only in the last year that dd1 skin has become more managable and she came off DLA for it, off her snti-histimes during winter, and actually sleeps through the night at age 8 without waking feeling itchy.

AwayInaMargot · 17/12/2008 14:58

Misdee you poor sausage. Poor sophie...is it bothering her? Whilst skin problems might seem minor compared to other things, I guess as it is always visible to you, it must play on your mind that much more.

coolkat · 17/12/2008 15:09

at your DH Margot and at Plumski choosing that moment to wee and poo! That should go down in the baby book under things that went wrong !

Misdee sorry about Sophie's Excema.

Daisy glad you had a better night.

Well Rebecca 7 weeks today and I feel after the awful weekend things are improving on the BF front, still every 3 hours and twice in the night but better than at the weekend when I was seriously thinking of throwing in the towel! So she is still exclusively BF and the bottles have remained in the box !!

I really need to start wrapping christmas presents and DH really needs to finish painting the Porch as we stupidly had the garage knocked through a few weeks ago as my stepdad had no work on and it is still not finished and I am sick of having coats on the back of dining room chairs whilst he decorates. Still when its done it will be lovely and very useful to store more crap coats / shoes etc!!

Glad to hear so many of you admitting to eating loads of crap, I feel all I eat is chocolate, crisps and cheese and coleslaw sandwiches!! Me and DH both going to diet in January - how does this effect me BF?

Trying to go for a walk everyday but trouble is this makes my hips and legs bad so fighting a losing battle

AwayInaMargot · 17/12/2008 15:36

Coolkat Glad you feel like you're getting there on BF front. Good luck with getting your DH to finish the DIY on porch!!

Re. dieting, I think you must be careful when BF. Probably best just to cut out all the crap (which we all crave!!) and eat plenty of the obvious stuff - wholemeal bread, lean proteins, fruit and veg etc. I know at WeightWatchers you get loads of extra Points if you are BF. Don't know how many precisely.
I read in GF book that you should also eat enough protein each day as this can affect supply. So lots of eggs/meat/cheese etc.

Some days I feel like all I eat is pastry...danish for elevenses, quiche for lunch, mince pies mid-afternoon....! Rather than dieting, I am going to go back to the gym in the new year and get running again. I can't deprive myself of food at best of times!!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 17/12/2008 16:08

ignore GF on BFing...she know nothing

weightwatchers give you 10 extra points if excl BF, 5 points if mixed or if baby is weaned onto solids. slimming world it doesn't make any difference but they advise that you use your full syns allowance.

food-wise, although it's sensible to eat healthily when BFing, you would have to be seriously malnourished/underweight before it affected the quality of your milk.

My plan is to cut out the crap I'm eating and increase my fruit and veg consumption...and to stop eating buttery mashed potatoes at every meal. My wieght is stable at the minute so I reckon minor adjustments should see major results; especially if F continues to feed the way he has been doing! I'm determined to be one of those women for whom BFing means lots of weight loss!

Sorry about sophie's skin misdee . Does it bother her?

glad things are going well on the feeding coolkat and margot.

I feel that we are coming out the other side of the "newborn fug" now and things are getting easier every day....so hang in there.

DD was being nice to F this morning....by trying to feed him raisins .

OMG Lacks at your DD feeding F raisins!!
Yes I agree, we are coming through from the "dark side".....phew.

Heartmum2Jamie · 17/12/2008 17:41

Misdee, sorry to hear about Sophie's skin. I think I am probably fighting a losing battle and expect Zack to go on to develop eczema and allergies (reflux babies tend to go hand in hand with intolerances/allergies)

Lacks, I am trying not to lol at your DD feeding F raisins.

Coolkat, well done on BF'ing. I agree with what the others said about dieting and breastfeeding, just be careful.

Cloth nappies, Z has been wearing a mixture of totbots aplix and kiwi quick flips today.

Well, I feel sick with guilt. Zack had his morning nap upstairs in his moses basket. When I heard him stirring on the baby monitor after 1.5 hours I went to get him becaused I missed him . Anyway, I picked him up, cuddled him and then laid him on my bed to get his clothes out of the drawers right by the bed. I turned my back for all of 10 second.... I bet you can all see this coming......

I heard a thud and there was my precious Z lying face down on the floor . He screamed, I snatched him up, loved him up and cried right along with him. I have no idea how he ended on the floor, he wan't close to the edge of the bed. Thank goodness he is ok, but I have more than learned my lesson, I shall place him on the floor in future. Can someone please pass me that "Bad Mummy" award please?

At least let it be a lesson to everyone else, even though these babies are not rolling, accidents can still happen. Hopefully Z will be the only one this happens to.

hiyer!
Coolkat Glad the bf is going better
Misdee Sorry about Sophie's eczema. I had to take Will back to drs today and she thinks he is developing eczema - he has some dry patches on his eyes and forehead and cradle cap. We will just have to wait and see... have E45 for the time being.
Merry what is this online calendar of which you speak??? Sounds like the answer to all my prayers - do tell!
MonkeyM oops - naughty dh!! Yoikes. Glad to hear he got stuck in this morning though!

Hi to everyone else!

question Green poo? Will did a couple this morning, dr said it is a sign he is not eating enough - like, sob! I need to grow more boobs if thats the case cos these are obviously not up for the job!!!
Could it be allergic reaction to formula? (still paying for that btw - blocked ducts in both boobs again Can't keep up with them) Wills body is still really red too. What's going on??? Dr couldn't say.

x

misdee · 17/12/2008 17:47

oh hm2j, {{{}}} i remember dd3 falling off the bed when little. i felt guilty as hell. so far sophie sleeps in the middle of the bed, to fall out she would need to climb over dh or me.

been looking at yours pics btw, gorgeous pic and z looks very alert.

barbareebaa · 17/12/2008 17:50

HM2J how scary hope you're o.k. I often leave will on the bed to go to the loo or get something. Will make sure he's away from the edge. I was babysitting my nephew once when he was a baby and he rolled off the bed - I saw him go and just couldn't grab him in time! he's 10 now and totally fine

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 17/12/2008 18:05

barbs, green poo in a BF baby isn't too worrying if it is only an occasional thing. We sometimes have a day of green poo and then it gets back to normal.

some more information here. I would only worry if his stools were consistently green.

There is such a thing as oversupply, which can cause green poo. this can be remedied by feeding from the same side for subsequent feeds, and only change sides every three hours, regardless of how many feeds he has in that time.

I would maybe speak to a breastfeeding counsellor for advice/reassurance that the green poos are normal in a BF baby.

barbareebaa · 17/12/2008 18:07

Thanks Hana I usually do continue on the same boob for that reason so that's a bit of a bummer. He is alert and put 2lbs on in his first 2 weeks so maybe not too bad? have not had much success expressing. Must try harder!
Congrats on making it on the list btw
