I was only out for a couple of hours and she's normally good at feeding from the bottle.

As I say she's had formula before but only when mixed in with breast milk when I haven't managed to express enough to satisfy her. I'm going to try that tonight as I'll be able to see exactly how much she's taking. Also she had been putting on a bit less than a pund every two weeks so to only have put on 4oz in the last four weeks is a little worrying.

Hopefully that is her with DS and she is just a beautiful little girl (I know I would say that). She's a total anegl too - just smiles and gurgles all the time. I'm absolutely besotted with her.

foxytocin · 13/11/2008 16:14

starlight is right sunshinemummy.

bm is the best thing for a child with a poorly tummy.

nothing you say indicates she specifically needs formula. if you can fit in another feed or just offer more 'sides' at the feeds she is already having then she should be fine.

also, at 12 wks bf babies start to gain weight slower and ff babies start to gain wt relatively faster so this is something your less than bf knowledgeable hv hasn,t told you.

their are lots of posts on slow gaining babies in the feeding archives.

potxola · 13/11/2008 16:15

Sunshine How scary!!!!. I am so glad she is better now. She will put on weight, give her lots of cuddles from us too.

On another note. Re. Colour of number 2: anyone's baby having green watery ones?

jenpet · 13/11/2008 16:43

Happy birthday for yesterday Foxy I cannot believe I will be 37 next week too..eek!
potxola yep, we get odd green watery no 2's from time to time as well - am assuming it is something we are eating as they tend to go back to the good thick yellow ones before long!
Right, bath & bed starts now! S has not napped well today for various reasons and I'm expecting the worst tonight, he does not cope well with being over-tired at all. Like his Mum lol

MelT76 · 13/11/2008 16:52

For those who are thinking of sleeping bags, Primark do them for £6!! Blue, pink, yellow, grey and white I think 2.5 tog. bargain me thinks.

becaroo · 13/11/2008 17:10

Oh sunshine how awful for you

Hope she feels better soon x

Arcadie · 13/11/2008 17:18

Just thought you guys ought to know how awesome Carrieon is. I'm the chocolate cake eating birthday chum. She made my YEAR with my surprise party. And her chocolate cake... hmmmmmmmmm not much left.[piggy emoticon]

Kagey · 13/11/2008 17:35

Sorry to hear about your scare sunshinemummy, hope your little one is ok now.

I've had Erin in a sleeping bag for just over a week now, as she kept kicking off her blankets and once more worrying kicking them over her head. Now she is foiled and safe.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 13/11/2008 17:45

sunshine - how scary, glad she's ok! and don't worry about comparing weight gain with your ds, they're different, my friend's dd1 was always on 25%ile, dd2 is off the chart!

a bit of a result here today, dd fell asleep by herself in her basket twice today, ok, in the kitchen with me, but I just left her alone and she just looked at the cot bumper for ages (really nice bold pictures) and then fell asleep, normally she only falls asleep on me during the day! but the basket now is too short for her... will try and fool her putting the basket bumper in her crib upstairs...

hopefully · 13/11/2008 18:42

The sleeping bag is 0-6 months, but the problem is his arms, not the rest of it. Because he sleeps on his side I can't even make a slow transition by putting him in the bag and trapping his arms by his sides with a tucked in sheet.
I did try your trick charity, which pleased him no end as he fell asleep, but it meant that as he came to the end of his sleep cycle during his lunchtime nap (he normally does one quick grunt and goes back to sleep) he started frantically sucking on his fist and woke himself up! I think I might persevere with that though, as it's a first step towards leaving one arm free altogether, and eventually moving into sleeping bags!
He's so mobile I have visions of him starting to roll early, and I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good thing with his arms trapped by his sides by the swaddling.

sunshine glad she is an angelic baby - I remember your pregnancy was less than relaxing, so good that she's making up for it now!

Have to say, now that T is beginning to grow out of his colic (we have a bad period about every third day now, rather than every evening), he is completely textbook, and pretty easy. I'm beginning to feel that there is light at the end of the 'survival' period that starlight told me to expect! Although doubtless he'll have a growth spurt or something soon and teach me not to get cocky.

carrieon · 13/11/2008 19:41

Evening all. Sorry to hear about your LO sunshine, sounds scary.

I had a much less dramatic but nonetheless terrifying experience this morning when I was in the shower, coated from head to toe in soap, hair full of shampoo and there was a funny hiss from the shower unit on the wall and the water went cold. Now that would be annoying enough, but our boiler is on the blink and although we have heating, we have no hot water, so I'm boiling the kettle to do the washing up, and we were filling the bath from the shower until today. So no one in family carrieon is getting a wash until saturday at the earliest .

Urgh. Dh is being lovely and phoning round plumbers but we can't decide whether to get the boiler fixed (for the second time this year...) or replaced, and whether or not to take out that British Gas cover where you pay £13 a month but they'll always come out and fix your boiler. Hmmm.

Sorry that post isn't about babies at all!

Sassyfrassy · 13/11/2008 21:26

We've bought dd1's christmas presents. A huge pink and white stuffed doggie that she has coveted a while and a drumset! Might live to regret that last one =)

What is everyone getting for your babies? I've got bags of dd1's old babytoys so we don't really need anything, but I wouldn't want Katie to be without either.

Kagey · 13/11/2008 22:12

Sassyfrassy we are getting Erin a Gloworm (just for my own nostalgia as I always wanted one), and then we are stuck for ideas. I do not want to go overboard but fear I will .

I was thinking of wrapping up some of ds1 old baby toys for ds2! More so ds1 sees that they both have presents (and he will be opening them anyway!) Really hoping ds1 doesnt get too much plastic this year- he has every Bob toy at least twice, plus fireman sam plus hundres of diggers and tractors- cant take any more! We're just going to get him bokks and crafty stuff I reckon

ninja · 14/11/2008 08:06

Where are you going Starlight? I don't envy you that journey.

We're not getting Christmas pressies for M - I thought DD1 might have wanted to buy her one, but she said 'she's too young!' . She might have to get small stocking though.

Hopefully glad to hear that T is growing out of the colic, that'll make you a lot more relaxed in the evenings.

potxola I think green watery normally means too much foremilk - has your LO been having shoter feeds?

foxytocin · 14/11/2008 08:33

dh comes home 2 wks from today.

yay! it looks like i will make it without being sectioned.

dd1 is now walking, walking, i tell you! albeit not fast and with a limp but should be walking normally by the end of the weekend.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/11/2008 08:42

2 weeks and counting hey Foxy! I bet you will feel a weight has been lifted off your shoulders when he walks through the door........ quickly followed by irritation when he doesn't observe/obey(!) the way things have been done since he's been gone.

Good to hear about your dd1 progress. She's obviously taken a big mental leap and decided it's the right time to start putting weight through her leg.

sunshine - what a worry, I'm glad things are ok now though.

hopefully · 14/11/2008 08:58

I barely dare say it, but we had another good night last night. T was a bit difficult after his 7pm feed, but went down, went straight down after his 10:30pm feed, woke at 4:30 (so a record 4 hrs 45 mins sleep) and was back fast asleep by 5:45am. It would have been a bit sooner but he couldn't get his last belch out and kept waking up with it.
He is now grinning at a mirrored ladybird on his play gym, and has been for 20 minutes and counting...

charitygirl · 14/11/2008 09:27

Ooh, Xmas pressies! Even though Frank is my first, I just can't get excited about buying him presents (am I toxic parent already ?). He has more than he needs, or will need for the next 12 months, and we have nowhere to put any more stuff until he grows out of a lot.

Think it is probably poor etiquette to ask rellies to make donations to his Child Trust Fund though, so I'm sure we will end up with more things, which, obviously, I will be grateful for! But our flat is full!

I think it would be nice if someone 'adopted' a wild animal for him. BUt I know thats a bit joyless...

XMAS prezzies So far the 2 teddies that Robyn has been given ds has stolen away so we have decided not to get her anything really. I have got her a play gym and a big playmat but she is having them now. We probably will relent and get her something.
