Hope this works

thought i would start a thread for those of us already in the heady World of motherhood, so we can share the trials and tribulations of the early days....

I shall start with my birth story and hope other's follow and I haven't started a dud thread

As you know I was dreading a 3rd CS, almost to the point where I was having panic attacks - we went in on the Thursday and after waiting for an EMC we were taken to theatre where I was DELIGHTED to recognise the aneathatist (sp!!) who helped deliver DS2. Now, one of my major fears about a 3rd CS was the fact that having had a "perfect" excperience with DS2, it6 wouldn't be possible to experience the same thing again...I was wroing, it was better The whole thing was started at 1315 and Tallulah was born at 1344 weighing 7lbs 2oz. She has a shock of dark hair but seems so small compared to the boys who were 9 and 10lbs respectively. The care I recieved was absolutely 2nd to none - no complaints or gripes.........So far so good.........

HOWEVER.........my god, do you forget the pain of breastfeeding before the milk comes in - I am in absolute agony and have had to top up with aptamil as the poor wee thing is so, so hungry...I am literally BF for up to 2 hours (the point of pain in both udders ) and then topping up with Aptamil. She guzzles 30ml and then settles.......As for sleep - sleep is for wimps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it does sound like things are settling down.

Dozy you sound so much happier now, which is a Good Thing. Hopefully you can enjoy your baby now without the stress.

Dinky has started that cluster feeding thing in the evening- mainly becaUSE she gets far too much attention from her siblings when trying to have her afternoon feed. However, I don't mind sitting in bed of an evening watching telly etc. feeding the baby (DH is at work anyway) and she did sleep from 11pm until 5:30 as a result of all that eveing milky!

RE Baths- I found the best thing for DD1's very dry skin was a wash down with aqueous cream every evening. Worked a treat.
She still has cradle crap though.

My friend shaved her baby's head and cleaned it all off with olive oil- bit drastic but it worked. No sign of cradlecrap on Dinkyminky's head yet.

Her hair is very similar to DS's birth hair, so I won't be suprised if it falls out like his did- which does solve the whole issue.

Hi Merry glad things are still going well. My friends twins sound a bit like yours- both boys but one much chubbier than the other- I think it was just the way they were, not that one was doing better than the other, IWSWIM.

Pinkyminkee · 11/11/2008 10:45

oh and ouch for the boobies, ladybuzz! Hope they settle down soon.x

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 10:56

Hi Pinkee, how do you wash down with aqueous (need detailed instructions) ie. do you put aqueous on wet cotton wool or a flannel or how is it done?).

Ds's hair all fell out too. Am hoping d's won't. Maybe it is just the way they are 'built'. Ds was hugely chubby till 9 mths and now he is skinny as a rake!

Pinkyminkee · 11/11/2008 14:13

sorry got a bit caught up in RL there- how did that happen??

Hi Merry what I did was I got one of those sponges- you know the ones that are really hard until they are wet- from the supermarket and a big tub of aqueous cream on prescription from the HV (ie free) and I put big dollpos of it on the wet sponge- it lathers up just like a soap and washed her down with it. Don't think I rinsed her off al that much as it does soak in as a moisturiser. You can put more on as a cream afetrwards.
HTH

ChocOrange05 · 11/11/2008 14:46

Hello - can I join the Dark side?? I feel qualified after only 2/3 hours of very broken sleep last night!

Currently sitting here while our unnamed LO is gurgling in his car seat - he does not like his moses basket.

Shit - what the hell do I do now?!?!?!?

LackaDAISYcal · 11/11/2008 15:26

Oh ChocO; I remember that feeling all too well! sitting staring at DS hoping he didn't do anything that warranted attention as I hadn't a clue what to do with him

Well Done You; your birth thread was fab and the fact you were thrashing MonkeyM and I at scrabble....well!!!!

so names; do you need some help?

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 15:32

Hello ChocO and Elvis

Lacks, any advice on how to get these two to go more than 90 mins without feeding?! They are 3wks tomorrow...

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 15:33

ps. pinkee, thanks for aqueous advice...will try that if this dryness gets any worse, sounds lovely, may try it on my tummy too!

LolaBella · 11/11/2008 15:46

Hi Choco and welcome over
Well update regarding BF. As Oscar is having problems latching on, the mw suggested using nipple shields which i bought and am now using very successfully. Oscar is latching on lovely and seems much more content.
Read a couple of pages back that somebody else is using these too, was it you Lacks? What do you mean that they can be the beginning of the end?

I really want to do well at bf and never realised it would be so hard On the up side, Oscar has put on 10 oz in six days so i know he must be getting something.

My (.)(.) are also very hard and sore Ladybuzz. They kept me awake last night with the pain. I'm trying not to express in between feeds but the hurt so bloody much. Hope yours settle down soon though

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 15:55

Lola, just checked your pic, Oscar is so cute...

...I don't know about nipple shields, sorry. Maybe lacks can help. I think she will be our postnatal bf guru. Despite feeding ds for 11mths, I am feeling at a loss how to manage these 2. I can't do the 'on demand' feeding anymore but I don't know any other way.

LackaDAISYcal · 11/11/2008 16:51

lola, nipple shields can interfere with the transfer of milk, but lots of women have used them successfully without any adverse effect on their supply

I used them for a couple of days to get over the hump of him not latching due to being sore from the thrush and me being sore from his bad latch. I have weaned him off them now though but starting off the feed when he is really hungry with them on and then taking him off and relatching without them.

some more information here

when I did my peer supporter course, the BFC said that they should only be used under the supervision of a qualified BFC, but perhaps she was being a bit overcautious!

MerryM, not sure what to suggest on the feeding, as twins are out of the range of my experience . Perhaps a thread on the multiples board or the feeding board? I know there are a few MNers who have successfully BF twins who will be more than happy to help; Marslady is one of them.

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 17:04

OK, thanks lacks. was just wondering if there is any theory to getting any baby to go for longer, but will also try the multiples...

ChocOrange05 · 11/11/2008 17:04

Hi all - have uploaded a photo of the Boy Who Is Not Named!

LackaDAISYcal · 11/11/2008 17:07

With a singleton I would try double sided feeding, ie using the same boob for two feeds before switching to make sure they are getting as much hindmilk as possible; but I guess that is pretty moot when dealing with twins? do you feed them at the same time or one at a time?

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 18:04

ahhhh...good idea. i am not tandem yet! i feed separately, they get 1 boob each per day and then swap next day tho ds has probs with my right side for some pbscure reason so tend to give him left side for a couple of days if he has made the right sore...

ChocOrange05 · 11/11/2008 18:27

Merry don't you have to hold twins like rugby balls to tandem feed??

Bumperlicious · 11/11/2008 18:58

Hello, just popped back to see how you are all doing. Lola, glad things are a bit better for you.

Dozy, what a tough decision for you. Hope you don't feel you have to justify yourself to anyone. Good luck with the FF, and hope you feel better soon.

LackaDAISYcal · 11/11/2008 19:29

He is lovely ChocO

Sure looks like and Elvis to me though

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 19:46

yeah, rugby hold is prob the easiest. i sometimes hold them rugby individually anyway if there is a duct getting blocked. helps them suck out the other side...although you can't really do it discreetly so easily, or slouch around on the sofa, it's a sitting up straight position!

Dozymare · 11/11/2008 20:25

Hey all - gosh, this thread is getting busier and busier by the day!!!!!!!!! Hurrah, wonder who will be the last to drop?? Is the stats list upsdated? I couldn't find it anywhere, but that is just me being techno phobic!

Big cheer to chocorange and Terry (until he is named eh !! Personally, I think you should go with Elvis as a name you have loved for ages - plus great shortening to LV (however you would spell that!)

What is your shortlist??

How did you find EH? I thought they were amazing and every single person i dealt with were fantastic.........

ladybuzz how is the UTI? Are your (.)(.) still sore? mine aren't even engorged or anything which is so odd.......Have had a great day today though, went out to do some shopping and DS2 being a superstar.......

However, may tootle of to bed in a bit, am shattered!!!

Stitches question coming up.

things feel very sore still (very tight and twingy) on the side that my episiotomy was done and the pain is into my buttock as well (after walking around today I was in agony). When I've been wiping it feels like I'm catching the end of the stitches and it fooking well hurts. Does this sound normal or like there may be infection? I can feel a hard knot which I think is the wound itself.

Any advice greatfully received!

MW coming tomorrow anyway so I'll get her to have a look for me.

LackaDAISYcal · 11/11/2008 20:31

dozy, I could only find the due dates stats; is there another thread with actual birthdays and weights etc on it?

Dozymare · 11/11/2008 20:33
