Hope this works

thought i would start a thread for those of us already in the heady World of motherhood, so we can share the trials and tribulations of the early days....

I shall start with my birth story and hope other's follow and I haven't started a dud thread

As you know I was dreading a 3rd CS, almost to the point where I was having panic attacks - we went in on the Thursday and after waiting for an EMC we were taken to theatre where I was DELIGHTED to recognise the aneathatist (sp!!) who helped deliver DS2. Now, one of my major fears about a 3rd CS was the fact that having had a "perfect" excperience with DS2, it6 wouldn't be possible to experience the same thing again...I was wroing, it was better The whole thing was started at 1315 and Tallulah was born at 1344 weighing 7lbs 2oz. She has a shock of dark hair but seems so small compared to the boys who were 9 and 10lbs respectively. The care I recieved was absolutely 2nd to none - no complaints or gripes.........So far so good.........

HOWEVER.........my god, do you forget the pain of breastfeeding before the milk comes in - I am in absolute agony and have had to top up with aptamil as the poor wee thing is so, so hungry...I am literally BF for up to 2 hours (the point of pain in both udders ) and then topping up with Aptamil. She guzzles 30ml and then settles.......As for sleep - sleep is for wimps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANOTHER weird night with Alyssa... I went to bed about 10.30 (too late I know) and left DH to do midnight ish feed then me get up for the rest which the next one should be approx 3am onwards.

DH woke me up ranting at 1am that "he didnt know what to do, blah, blah, blah". Nice way to be woke up and earlier than planned!!! The problem is that it seems that the feed around 11/12pm Alyssa wont settle back down or even asleep after (unlike the rest of the day no probs). She will fall asleep on you but will wake if put down. It seems that 11/12 until 3am is her "awake" time .

She was really screaming though. She eventually went to sleep 3.30am ish after ANOTHER BIG EARLY feed. So within 3 hours she had 150ml (5oz) of milk!!!

SUMMARY - Has feed 11pm/12. Will fall asleep on you after but not go down to bed until 3am. Rest of day no problems. Ended up with 2 feeds virtually back to back as was greedy guts. After initial 11/12 feed had another feed 1.45am then bed (eventually) at 3.30am. Slept until we woke her for feed at 9am and had 100ml (4+oz).

Any ideas?
Is it just an awake time?
Or does she maybe want more feed at the 11/12 time?
Or just comfort maybe a dummy required (as hand in mouth but normally sign of feed)?
--------
HELP!

We have increased her bottles from 90ml (3oz) to 120ml (5oz) as she was draining the 90ml yesterday to give the option of more feed if she wants it and maybe rule out the hunger option.

MerryMarigold · 18/11/2008 12:14

Announcement belatedly: I txtd Monkey today and she replied to say dh sent me a text! I didn't get it though.
"Baby girl born Monday 12.20am on Monday 7lb 11oz. Name tbc. Congrats to sparkle on whopper baby!"

MerryMarigold · 18/11/2008 12:17

vbab, my 2 have drunk 120-130mls within 30 minutes (they only have 1 bottle per day, goodness knows how much they are sucking out of me!), so I don't think that amount is strange if they are on a growth spurt.

MerryMarigold · 18/11/2008 12:19

sorry, also forgot to add that my 2 seem to get windier at night, no idea why...once they have gone to sleep on me and burped, farted, pooed etc. (at least 30 mins), they will go down. If she is not even falling asleep on you, then maybe it is ehr awake time. If she will sleep on you, try cuddling her while you are lying down on your side and then both can sleep happily.

Oblomov · 18/11/2008 12:21

Vbab, I am afraid I do not have any answers, but I do have sympathy, becasue I have EXACTLY the same thing.
We will search for answers together - sounds very treky that, doesn't it ? search for the meaning of life - ha ha.

Oblomov · 18/11/2008 12:22

MerryM, I didn't get MonkeyM's dh's text either.

Congratulations MonkeyM

MerryMarigold · 18/11/2008 12:45

oh dear, hope his text to his parents arrived ok!!!

suiledonn · 18/11/2008 12:49

Hi everyone, I am so lost at the moment about whose babies have arrived and when. I keep trying to get a chance to catch up but not happening yet. Is there a roll call thread that I have missed?

Things are settling down a bit here. Amy is totally day/night confused. She is feeding every hour at night but sleeping most of the day. I am in the throes of breastfeeding agony with one very sore nipple but at the same time I am so extremely happy and content. I was a nervous wreck after having dd1 so never enjoyed her as a new born. So different this time round.

Still having problems with my blood pressure. Despite being 5 days post partum and on medication it still hasn't come down. Will have to visit the GP this week to discuss it. The only positives are that it seems fairly stable at the moment and that I no longer have to worry that it could harm the baby. I dread the thought of it getting worse and having to go into hospital again.

Will try to get dd1 down for a nap later so I can catch up properly.

Hi to all the new babies - be nice to your mummies.

Dozymare · 18/11/2008 15:33

afternoon all - hope everyone is ok - I am at home with DS1 who is poorly whilst DH has taken the other 2 DC's.....

Firstly, huge congrats to monkey - another girl! Is she going to call her Cecily still I wonder???!!

Vbab I am also bottle feeding and Tiger is extremely greedy - she is feding every 3 and a half to 4 hours but also seems to want 50z at least once a day. I think perhaps a growth spurt????? She also got day and night confused but then (so far, so good) has sorted it out all by herself........early days though and whilst I am folliwng GF losely, she seems to be doing that anyway Sure it will all be different next week though

As for niocknames - she gets called Lula, Lula Belle, Twinkletoes, and the most gorgeousest girl in the world

Yep, i am still smitten!!!

ob s any news form Mr Patel? i think you are right to keep saying DRAW A LINE, DRAW A LINE" AS you can;t do anything to change your experiences, you need to learn to accept them...difficult I know as I am still having "issues" EITH MY NON ABILITY TO breast feed this time around (and my typing and seplling of course!)

heartmum i LOVE your LBS reasoning - and given that we are all feeling a bit like something is going to happen, then I think it is very valid to say we are all suffering from L:BS syndrome!!!!! I literally, can't put tiger down!!

off to paint now with DS1

Baclk on tionight I hope

Afternoon

Congratulations to MonkeyM and welcome to the baby monkey . Looking forward to hearing name, birth story etc

Well, it went from bad to worse here last night with Finlay up all night groaning and writhing in pain . DH and I managed a couple of hours sleep each; no more than that. IT is such an awful noise he makes when he has gripey pains; made worse by the fact that we can't seem to do anything about it.

Obs, we saw the colief drops in Boots and wish we had bought them now. Will try and get out for some later; hopefully they will sell tham in the 24hr pharmacy. I am also concerned that he has reflux as well as he groans in pain after burping as well.

Oh well two fairly settled babies out of three isn't bad I suppose

Sorry for a bit of a me post, but am feeling properly shite about it . not helped by lack of sleep I know.

Obs, hope Mr Patel has gotten back to you now.

My bleeding has calmed down and has gone that creamy pink colour, but I'm sorried that it smells odd. not offensive, but it definately has a smell that I hadn't noticed with DD and DS1 (or else I've forgotten what it smelled like )

good thing about today is we went into town and I chose my sparkly thing from DH . tis very sparkly!!! now I have to find a way to get my engagement ring off before next Wednesday as it's still stuck fast

But, I am wearing pre-DS2pregnancy trousers today and they look fine (although they are a bit tight around my....ahem.....waist!). aim is to get into my pre DS trousers before long.

LadyBuzz · 18/11/2008 16:36

Hi Everyone,
Are these babies sending vibes to each other, Jay is also having his 'awake' time from about 10pm until 1 or 2 AM and is just not interested in anything other then feeding. He has put on 4.5 oz since birth which considering he was just under birthweight last Saturday means he has gained that in a week. He feeds anywhere between 1 1/2 and 4 hours and usually has 3oz which he is guzzling so we were thinking of increasing from the next feed to see if that helps!
DS1 is poorly too he has such a bad cough and is very clingy - i'm so glad DH is still off this week. poor little lamb.
We don't really have any nicknames for DS2 he usually gets Luke (DS1)
Can't stop cuddling him though he is so snuggly which is good as he won't sleep in his crib!
Obs well done for the PMA - glad you are feeling better!
Misdee what a shocking day yesterday hope you (and) DH are OK.
Hi to everyone else hope everyone is OK.

LadyBuzz · 18/11/2008 16:42

Ooh sparkly bought me a pendant to match my engagement ring - which I got back on today (still no wedding ring)- and the earrings he got me as a wedding present - bless him.

Have you tried the cream you use for your 'friends' to get your wedding ring off? have never tried it myself but it is supposed to do the trick!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 16:44

thanks for the tip on the friend cream LB. I'll give it a go!!

LolaBella · 18/11/2008 17:01

Oscar is another one who likes to party between 11 - 2am. What is going on? I'v never watched so much crap TV in my life

Oscar and I went to our first mother and baby group today to check out the local talent and it was lovely. I felt like the new girl in school on my way there but everyone made me feel vey welcome and i think we might go again next week.

Still breastfeeding here using the shields. I'm trying to wean Oscar away from them but he seems to like them and appears to get plenty of milk but he is getting weighed on Thurs so we shall see. Only problem is i don't like to breastfeed in public with them as they just look stupid . They are also such a faff to put on but they seem to be working for us and hopefully when Oscar gets a bit bigger he will be able to latch on better.

Sorry some people are having problems with windy babies. Oscar, like your two Merry, seems to get his wind at night (or maybe it just seems worse when it is night now i think about it)but i just hate seeing him in pain

Hi to everyone else. Hope the breast feeding is going better for those also struggling a little last week?

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 17:19

I've just spent £96 at figleaves on nursing bras

I found a 20% discount code though, so have saved £24 in all which isn't too bad and it qualifies for free delivery as well.

Went to Bravissimo today and they didn't have anything of my size in stock. The fitter gave me a few websites to check/order from though and said if I bring in the bras when they arrive she will make sure they are the right fit!

One day I'll be spending that amount of money on nice underwear again.

coolkat · 18/11/2008 17:39

Just a quick one to say I am about, will try and catch up propery tomorrow.

We are doing ok, feel a little down, Rebecca feeding well but no pattern established . . . yet! I need to stop eating chocolate otherwise I will never loose anyore weight (can you eat more when BF feeding?)

X

Heartmum2Jamie · 18/11/2008 18:55

Argh! Zack has been asleep for nearly 5 hours now and my boobs hurt! He has had a bit of a topsy turvey day. We went to the gp's this morning as they like to see all the newborn babies for a check up. Only I got it into my head that the appt was at 11.30am when it was actually at 10.50am , so a wasted trip, but at least we got some fresh air. Then the HV showed up unannounced just before 1pm and this really disturbed Zack. Good news is he passed his newborn hearing screening test with flying colours and I passed my pnd questionaire with flying colours too.

Lacks, Yay for your sparkly/shiny thing and for new nursing bra's. Mine are horrid, plain off white from last time around. I really would like a couple of nice nursing bras.

I came across an interesting post on another board I use this morning and found it quite useful, so thought I would pass it on. It is method of deciphering the 5 main types of baby's crys. It's very interesting and I certainly recognised a few of the cries. Amazing stuff. Dunstan method. Maybe this will help some of us, especially the first timers. I wish I knew this with ds1.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 19:02

heartmum, figleaves have some nice bras and the Royce Jasmine ones aren't too expensive at £24 each. If you use the code BHA13 at checkout, you get 20% off.

Or, if you visit here and put in your email address they will send you a £10 e-voucher.

Fin has slept and fed really well today...but we are fully expecting another unsettled night. I'm drinking fennel tea instead of tetley in a bid to help as well. I'm slowly getting used to the taste

Roca · 18/11/2008 19:21

Lacks how have you managed to get into trousers from many moons ago? Please share your tactics - I assume they don't include eating the chocolate, crisps and cheese on toast after dinner that I do?! I so badly want to shift the baby weight that I put on 4 yrs ago but need inspiration.

I suddenly seem to have no clothes - half maternity ones not comfortable on section scar and I can't for the life of me remember what I was wearing before I fell pregnant - I think it's all in the loft. Have been living in PJ bottoms or hideous trackies - yummy mummy.

Now looking forward to my hair thinning at the sides which it did with the other 2, at a time when I want loads of photos taken with family I avoid the camera like mad!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 19:27

Roca, I lost lots of weight during the pregnancy and only put on half a stone from my pre-preg weight by the end.

I'm already 3/4 of a stone lighter than I was pre-preg, but I still have a big flobby belly with that old lady paunch in my trousers below the waist so it's not all good!!

I bought myself a couple of pairs of smartish joggers and yoga pants after my section with DD last year. I had thought I could wear my pregnancy stuff but it was all below the bump and cut across my scar as well.

Roca · 18/11/2008 19:38

too late for me to lose weight during pg now! Only put on about 1.5 stone but I started a couple of stone overweight in the first place - exercise and diet here we go...

I have yet to venture out of the house - am sure I went out early with the others but this time and happy cooped up at home - it almost feels Christmasy.

Also, (and please tell me to get over it) - am a little anxious to all go out in the car as I feel the 'cargo' is just to precious - oh I so have to get over those thoughts.......

Roca · 18/11/2008 19:40

leaking right breast tells me someone needs to wake up. Tired two children in bath tells me 2 need to go to bed!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 19:45

ikwym about staying cooped up at home. I have had a longer babymoon with each baby.....I think you appreciate it more with subsequent children

I was about three stone overweight before getting pregnant with DS2, so I had it to lose. I need to lose another two stone to get back to pre DS1 weight, but if I could get back into a size 12 I would be happy, whatever weight I am.

So much for coeliacs being emaciated underweight things

misdee · 18/11/2008 19:47

evening.

well thinsg seem better today. am not as teary and bluesy as yesterday. the car will be fixed, peter is ok, just arguing about car seats now really.

midwife came round today. weighed sophie, she has dropped to 8lb 8oz, from 9lb 2.5oz which is apparently fine. had her heel prick tests done, i was well prepapred and had popped 3 pairs of socks on sophies feet first thing this morning, so she bleed easily and with minimal fuss. my womb has shrunk right back already, which explains all my aches and feeling like i've been hit by a truck at times. but am starting on senna tonight as things just arent shifting again. a few days on that should sort things out.

Registered Sophies birth as well today. we all missed a typo on the forms, but was spotted before we left, poor girl had a different surname to us for all of 5mins lol. then went to lunch with dh. Sophie slept all the way through it all.

Anyone else really thirsty and ravenous all the time? at tis rate i'm going to gain more post pregnancy than in pregnancy. dh bought me mince pies today they wont last long.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/11/2008 19:55

Glad things are better today misdee and that the blues haven't stuck around. Lol at the registrar's typo though!!!! that could have been embarrasssing if you hadn't spotted it!

I haven't had much in the way of afterpains at all this time, but they were really bad with DD. I was expecting much, much worse.

We need to make an appointment to get DS2 registered.....must try and remember to call tomorrow.

Have started a thread about DS2's tummy in kid's health and had some good advice. I thought the HV was coming tomorrow but I think it might not be till Thursday. Hopefully she will be able to help.
