New thread as it's Nov so our babies are all hitting 6 months!

Thanks all, it sound slike you are all kind of right, as I think there are more teeth on the way (she has 2 bottom teeth poking thru) AND she is very mucusy AND she has been a bit under the weather....I really hope she picks up soon, as it does worry me. All she's had today is:

4oz milk then Half a weetabix
6oz milk
one mashed banana with a few raspberries
Just about managed 2 oz milk before bedtime

A friend at the party also suggested mixing more milk in with her food.

Party was lovely, DD1 was good as gold, she didn't know most of the children but ran off and played etc. DD2 was good too until she got tired at the end.

DH home on time tonight (yay!) so he's putting them to bed.

Must get the wine open dinner on.

everytime DS is teething he goes right off the bottle and seems to prefer solids. I think the teat (we have the bobbly anti colic teats...mothercare) are a bit sore on the gums and solids, either spoon fed or him feeding himself doesn't irritate the tender gums as much.
We also mix in some milk to the food, particularly a bit of baby rice with milk. We hardly use baby rice now but I find he'll take quite a bit of milk with baby rice when he won't take a bottle at all.

mumofkandj · 18/12/2008 20:52

Hi all, just popping back as have a few minutes....not been here for YONKS but just read a page or so....
Hope everyone's getting sorted for xmas- we've had our tree up forever but we went ivy picking at the weekend so we have 'fresh' decs around too.

J had HV 8 month check today- all is fine. I was ready for 'discussions' about co-sleeping but my HV isn't dictatorial/opinionated, so pleasant visit.

J isn't quite 8 months, and is pulling up and cruising (arrgghh, K was months later) everywhere and screams if left on the floor. She sits fine, but refuses to sit (stays rigid) so to put her down quick means lying down. Cue 'I'm being tortured' screaming!

She's also eating what we eat- we did BLW (or 'no real effort for me' weaning, lol)and now she shovels porridge in with fingers quite well and luurves tuna pasta bake. I have drawn the line with soup though....

No teeth at all, just lovely drool and no signs of that changing (K was 13 months and first tooth a molar so I'll be interested to see J's take on teething).

K is playing much more at the dining table now NOWHERE else is safe from J, otherwise happy being big sister and helping loads (phew). Im expecting more problems as J gets more mobile.

Must go, time isn't something I have a lot of. Still thinking of you all, and wondering how you and your LO's doing. I hope to catch up soon on here, but never know how its going to go.This has been such a friendly place I'm sorry not to get here more!

goodchristmasgirl · 19/12/2008 09:54

Hmmm, I tried a bit of BLW yesterday, i.e giving DD2 some bits of fruit on highchaor tray and seeing what happened. She just held strawberries and giggled at me. Ironic how everything goes in her mouth other than actual food I want her to eat .

Thought I was doing better with milk this morning, she had 4oz, then proceeded to throw it all back up again, immed after a nasty coughing fit where she obv had a load of phlegm and I think that just made her throw it all up. Didn't want any solids so tried her with more milk and she had 4oz again.

DD1 seems all recovered and is back to her lovely (if not inquizative) self.

Just off to 'monkey bizness'.

TheSeriousSanta · 19/12/2008 09:57

GCG - this was EXACTLY what DS had.

I've tried BLW too - the only things DS wanted to eat were the cellophane wrapper and a marker pen.

Our other weaning is going well, unless DS doesn't like what I give him, when he simply refuses to keep it in his mouth and just spits it out using his tongue!!!

Glad to hear DD1 is brighter again!

goodchristmasgirl · 19/12/2008 13:07

Thanks for the reassurance SeriousSanta. Is DS back on his milk now?

I do have a little chuckle to myself on the BLW (not in a taking the piss way, BTW) but it just doesn't seem to work for us at all!!!
I can't understand all these people like mumofk&j who breeze thru it . Lucky things!!!

Nevermind, I'm happy with what we are doing.

TheSeriousSanta · 19/12/2008 13:25

Though I have to say, we are at an NCT coffee morning recently (where I was lucky enough to win top prize in the raffle ) and DS took a liking to the chocolate bourbon biscuits. He managed to eat those... Had chocolate all over his face which wasn't really the best look for meeting santa but never mind!!!

I think some babies are going to prefer BLW and others aren't. DS has the hang of eating... Opens his mouth when the spoon is coming etc., but it just depends on the child!!

Anyway, yes, DS is back on milk and solids and eating really well (though I am sure he lost a little weight the week he was poorly, so he's had to regain that too)

Gosh, can't believe it's nearly Christmas - DH is home tonight and doesn't have to go back until 12th January!!!

mincepiemacaco · 19/12/2008 15:39

We do a bit of BLW and a bit of spoon feeding. Quite often (at lunchtime if it coincides with me eating) I put him in the highchair and give him a bit of what we're having or some fruit/cheese or veggies or perhaps rice cakes and let him have a little play. He seems to like it. I put a variety of stuff on the tray within his reach and leave him to it, so he might have a bit of banana, brocoli, cheese and rice cake in front of him and he gives it a go. I also give him purees I have in the freezer.
I have a friend who put spoons loaded with yoghurt or whatever on the tray and her baby likes to spoon feed herself (and smear it all over her face!) But the smearing it all over the face is part of the fun, isn't it? I'm trying very hard not to be a "wipey mummy"

another post and run from me... hi to everyone...

gingerwenceslas · 19/12/2008 16:15

Hello to everyone. I'm only an occasional MNetter these days partly because I'm another person trying BLW in a loose-ish way and it takes a lot of time out of the day! DS won't accept being fed but is adept at guiding a loaded spoon and sometimes wants me to hold food up and he leans forward to bite it. I still think he likes chewing on the spoon more than consuming the food on it though!

We've had great success wiht rice cakes, baby biscuits, fromage frais, crusts of bread/toast/pizza, cucumber, melon, pear and roasted root vegetables esp parsnip and carrot and potato. He quite liked sucking juices out of a strip of rare steak. Less success with weatabix and mini shredded wheats, ham and penne with cheese. Broccoli and cauliflower florets are sometimes liked and sometimes not likewise green beans. It is incredibly messy and very very time consuming. I found the mess difficult at first (my mum was very much a wipey mummy! and she was clearly stressed at the mess DS made when she was up) but it's getting easier.

Also TMI alert and drum roll please....we have our first solid poo! I texted a photo to my DH this mornign but don't worry I won't share the photo on here! It was only the size of a large pea but definitely solid not the usual yellowy gunge. That really was TMI wasn't it?

TheSeriousSanta · 19/12/2008 16:24

I think DH would think texting him a photo of DS's poo would be grounds for divorce

I texted him and the DSDs a photo of DS when his belly button scab fell off and they were seriously unimpressed - they were having lunch at the OXO tower and I don't think they wanted to see DS's belly button!!! haha!!!

FWIW, DS has then too, but I haven't taken any photos

I gavfe DS mashed potato the other night and he loved it (and slept all the way through) so I have bought the largest jacket potato ever and we are having it again for dinner tonight!!!

goodchristmasgirl · 19/12/2008 18:49

I must confess, I know it's not very MN but I am a bit of a 'wipey mummy' . I'm sorry, I know they're only babies, but I can only tolerate a certain amount of mess!! I was the same with DD1, and I must admit, it worked for me, as she has always been a very neat eater, I'm always quite when I see other friends kids the same age eating lunch or whatever and their whole face being covered in fruit or chocolate or whatever!! I once saw a friend's 18 month old with literally food up to his eyebrows and elbows. Now, I know how this makes me sound, but I don't care, each to their own, I couldn't be doing with all that everyday!!!
It was when ginger said 'lots of mess and very time consuming' that I realised why BLW isn't for me . LOL!!!
I admire you people who can be more relaxed about the mess, but unfortunatley, I can't. And trust me, I'm a lot better than I used to be since having kids. I just don't think it's something you can help if that's your natural personality IYSWIM.

DH working tonight, think I'm gonna curl up on sofa with a bottle of red wine!

Superbro is coming for a week tomorrow!

serious Enjoy your time with DH while he is off. Hopefully he might get a bit more insight into how tough your day is and help a bit more??? .

Niknak21 · 20/12/2008 03:30

mumofkandj good to hear all is going well for you. I was wondering about you the other day in one of my pondering moments.

My little (big) Al is now getting the hang of food. I was really lazy at the start and one day gave him some lunch, but then none for a few days since he was asleep at 12 or DS1 was taking up too much time. That was the pattern for the 1st few weeks. I started DS1 at about 5.5mnths because he was going to nursery, but with DS2 it's all different since I have no job to go back to.

DS2 is booked in to start nursery on Feb 19th and then only one day. They are so busy I couldn't get him to start the same sessions as DS1 in January which was what I requested. Far too many siblings being born to regular nursery kiddies. So he's slowly building up his days, he'll be the same as DS1 (2.5 days a week) by May, so the job hunt will have to start for real next month..

So weaning has been a lot less structured than 1st time around. He has had cucumber sticks I stole off a friend whilst out and they are a good thing to give him to play with. I don't like to sit him at the table when we or DS1 eat and he has nothing. Today he managed a couple of rice cakes no probs, and he's not 7mnths til next week! I'm terrible when it come to sticking to the rules, and rice cake packets say from 7 mnths .

I've not done very well with cooking him stuff though and he's had loads more pots than DS1 did. I have started giving him fruit puree pots and DS1 always wants what the baby has so he finishes them up when he loses interest. I used to mix them with natural yoghurt for DS1 because of the amount of sugar in kids yoghurts, but not got round to that yet.

TSS I love the picture in my head of you LO with bourbon biscuit face. I'm not really a wipey Mummy, but only because I'm v lazy. My Mum drove me mad when I used to feed DS1 at the 6-12month stage. She would wipe the table if I dropped any as I was spooning it in and put the baby off what he was doing.

GCG enjoy your time with superbro, if only we could all have one. Although I am lucky with my Mum even though she winds me up, she's back on Monday for the week so lie ins for us if DS2 allows us!

Had a lovely evening with friends at newly opened Hotel du Vin, but it's left me sleepless, roll on tomorrow evening when I'll hopefully be in a sleepier mood.

Hope you all have a good weekend

TheSeriousSanta · 20/12/2008 21:30

OK, I have to take my hat off to anyone who can cope with BLW...

We went out for lunch today and DS decided the ONLY thing he wanted to eat was the chocolate icecream waffle... Now to be fair, he did enjoy it, but the mess was indescribable (not sure what MN would make of me giving DS choco icecream waffles at lunchtime, but there you go!!!)

No way could I cope with that 3 times per day!!!

How is everyone?

DDog hurt his paw this morning... Had to be collected in the car, couldn't make it up the hill, but my Ddog does have probably the lowest pain threshold you have ever seen on any dog ever!!!! He seems OK, and his jaws are working perfectly, so I don't think it's too serious!!

DS is in great form... A bit snotty, but I think it's just a hangover from the cold he had...

DH is good form too, though in bed now (to be fair, he spent most of the week in Moscow last week which is 3 hours ahead, so it probably feels really late now)... Though he came home with a suspiciously gravelly voice and a need to sleep and drink a lot which makes me wonder whether it's less of a cold and more of a hangover!!!!!

So, I'm bored, and tooling around MN (Promise not to start or become embroilled in any MN fights!! )

Flick what time is good for you on Tuesday? DH's lunch is at 1pm, but we will come into town before that....so just let me know what works best for naps etc.... will just come to your place if that's OK???

We went shopping for ski gear today to MK.. The place was DEAD!!! Is anyone else really quite concerned what's going to happen to the economy come January???? The sales have started already and still no one is buying - we bought what we HAD to, for DSDs and DS to go skiing in January / February, but that's it, we've really cut back and, the ease with which we parked and shopped, we are def. not the only ones.... and this is the run up to Christmas, when people are spending... Januar is going to be horrible in my HO!!!

Oh, well, best stop boring you all!!

Night, TSS xxx

no sign of a recession around here TSS - kings road jammed, all shops with sales on are manic, and you can't get a decent restaurant booking for love nor money - everywhere is packed out!

will post more later

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 10:24

That's good to know!! We were going to go to Harvey Nicks today, but DS had a terrible night (up from 12:30 till 5am coughing - he's come down with another cold )

So I'm not sure we're going to make it now!!!

Good to know someone is still spending, Flick!!

Santacolada hope you are feeling better now... Atleast you are back into the swing of things at work

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 15:40

Oh what a day.

We are off to A&E with DS just now and Ddog is booked to the vets for 8am tomorrow...

DS just has the worst cold / chest so needs to be checked out and poor old DDog still can't walk on his front paw...

goodchristmasgirl · 22/12/2008 08:57

serious How are DDog and DS today?

Having a lovely time with SB (superbro). Unfortunately he is depressed at the moment, remember I said about him splitting up with his partner? Well, we (including my sis) have been talking to him loads and we have got to the bottom of it all. His ex is basically blackmailing him to try and take him back. SB doesn't wanna be with him but is scared of what the ex is capable of (think 'shameless' from CH4 ). The ex is telling SB that he will ring my parents and me and my sis and tell us all about my bro, what we don't know about him. It makes me SO ANGRY . SB has lost over 2 stone in weight with worry over what ex is capable of. At least he doesn't want him back, like I thought.

Had all of DH's family over yesterday and suprisingly had a lovely day! The kids were all really good, I had got them gingerbread men to decorate (kit from Tesco ) and they played board games. No mention of the Wii or the TV!!! I did a big sausage casserole and they all ate it, we had a lovely day! Took me and DH and SB 1.5 hrs to clean up after they'd gone (at 9pm !) but I actually enjoyed it!!

Off to see the lovely Alan today (physio) although my back is feeling a bit better.

It's nearly Christmas!!!

thefortbuilder · 22/12/2008 09:39

TSS how is the troop? how is DS's cold and chest? if you want to cancel tomorrow i'll completely understand.

not much else to report here

Niknak21 · 22/12/2008 10:43

GCG that makes me very sad to hear about SB, I hope he has a better 2009 and is back to his lovely self

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 22/12/2008 11:08

TSS How is DS what did A&E say? Hope he is ok

GCG Sorry to hear about SB, hope he is ok

Pina Hope you feeling better after your night out

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas

goodchristmasgirl · 22/12/2008 17:43

Ahhh thanks guys for your kind words. Me and SB and my sis our going to visit our grandparents grave tomorrow and put some flowers there,(remember Robonan died in April just before DD2 born?)then go out for lunch, and me and sis will continue to try and give SB the strength he needs to stand up to that bully. .

Tonight, SB is living up to hos name and babysitting so DH and I can go out for dinner......WOO-HOO!!!!!

And tomorrow, Denny is coming.....double woo-hoo! She's coming on her own and we are having a girls Christmas night out (The Tesco break girls!!). Yipee I just love Christmas!!

jinglebaiyu · 22/12/2008 17:45

Snotty snotty phlem boy here. Won't BF or eat solids til he is starving but luckily over the nasty croup of a few days ago. Still coughing a lot and puking lots of feeds. Back at my mums now which is a little stressful but good really.

I just read everyones posts but too much wriggling from DS on my lap to reply properly but mitchell your registrar definitely was my friend! TSS hope DS is much better now and A&E was ok.GCG grr at SB's ex, hope all sorted soon.

Now how to make mince pies with DS on my hip?

TheSeriousSanta · 22/12/2008 18:21

Hey Baiyu, I also have a snot monster here!!! also puking, not wanting to sleep, can't settle or sleep more than about 2 hours... poor thing. Hope you have an OK time with your mum...

GCG - Grrr for your brother. Just as an idea, can you not call the ex (since it's you guys he's using as a weapon) and tell him that you KNOW all this stuff and it's of no use threatening to tell you? Or would that just engage him even more? Goodness, I can see why SB would not ever want to go back with him... That's not love at all. It's controll and very, very nasty.

Flick thanks for the e-mail.. Have mailed you back

Mitchell - Hope you are all really looking forward to Christmas... Has it been lovely having DH home again?

NIknak - Hello!!! Let's hope that we ALL have lovely Christmases and great 2009s!!!

TSS xx
