Thought I'd start the new thread using paro's suggestion

Morning everyone, sorry for my infrequent postings - will promise to try harder, I just don't know where the hours go!

Josey - how was your dh last night?

HH - also have to agree re your sil - he's a baby for goodness sake.

Essie - I can see why you might find conversations with a 3 month old not quite so stimulating! I didn't even understand the synopsis of your book!

Needahand - how are things going

Sophie - I bet you're enjoying your rest. How long till your holiday?

Ethan's wearing tights too, all the boys do here until about age 5/6, as the winters are cold and they stop those draughts.

run out of time again - apologies to all those I haven't replied to personally.

Getting very excited about next weeks trip to the UK and also very nervous about having to make our decision.

quick q about baby carriers, have borrowed a baby bjorn classic style for travelling, if you have one, is your baby facing outwards yet?

Thanks

Upsidedowncake · 01/10/2008 08:31

Morning everyone

Josey, I'm so sorry about your DH. You must feel as though it's never-ending. I think about you and your family a lot. How have things gone with the feeding tube lately?

Debs, very exciting re trip to the UK! Dorothy is facing outwards and LOVES it - and it distracts her from her teeth. Any chance you'll come to London while you're here and we can meet you??

Essie, I think Iestyn would look gorgeous in tights! I don't think you'd actually notice under little dungarees either.

HH - I cannot believe your SIL!

Amber - DS was long and lean as well.

Off to the HV to have Dorothy weighed today. Haven't been for a month - how often are the rest of you going?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/10/2008 08:34

Morning Deb we had a night off and it was lovely sitting in our posh sitting room and not the playroom surrounded by toys. More in tonight and 12th is the next night off. Good luck with the next bit of filming and sorry can't help you on the carrier. And holiday is 7 weeks on Friday.

Poppy are you flying today or tomorrow, I did post about mineral water I think Evian is OK just need to check which one has lowest sodium content. Enjoy the flight this is the easy time to fly with them.

Essie get back into reading something like that, it will help with the brain rot

debinaustria · 01/10/2008 08:42

Thanks UDC - I'll try him facing out. Sorry but no chance of coming to London, we are filming 9-5 every day!!

Sophie - lol at sitting in your posh room!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/10/2008 09:27

Morning UDC - we are going about once a month or so can't be bothered any more than that

poppy34 · 01/10/2008 10:06

5gomad thanks for tip - did cross check on feeding post and seems evian and volvic ok -can you just mix straight from new bottle cos I'm not going to be able to boil it .

having nightmare re sleep -she keeps waking (last night I think she was hungry) then not settling again ... anyone else having this... am v.fed up as she was getting better and now seems to be minxing in the night (last night I think she was hungry and cold as was grizzling as opposed to just messing about)... amber didn't you have this issue?

goingfor3 · 01/10/2008 10:13

DS had a babygro from Greenbaby and it lasted him until he was two weeks old - it was 0-3 ! Has put me off buying anymore from them.

UDC I get ds weighed every three or four weeks. I will go tommorow as he hasn't pooed for two weeks and I'm getting a bit worried!

Parofleurmapu · 01/10/2008 10:53

HellO and Morning!

Well im back, no apointments to run round to and feeling more with it. Basically i didnt have an infection at all (so thanks to gine who buggered up BF with strong antibiotics) but i have to have rehabilitation for my stiches and pelvic floor that is what is causing all the pain, stiches are still raw as if ive just given birth and are pulling so having massages etc which is working wonders

Have skimmed posts and seen we are discussing hungry babies and weaning, Fleur now has non gluten cereals or rice once a day. Here in spain they still do cereals at 4mths fruit at 5mths and the rest at 6mths, they do the same in Holland. As Fleur was showing big interest in food ie she grabbed a banana from my hand and scoffed it, watching us eat intently and making mmmm noises and chewing and eating 150ml to 180ml every 2hrs and has only put on 100g in last 2 weeks so we have decided to go for it and she is doing really well and loving it. I wanted to hold out as im sure guidelines are there for a reason but every baby is different and i cant understand how guidelines in Spain and Holland are so different.

Re water I now do mixed feeding and use just mineral water, with low sodium content (here its lanjaron or font vella in england Evian)
I dont boil it no need to as impurities already gone. I take a small 200ml bottle with me and powder in a dispenser and mix it up on the spot,If i can i warm it but if not she has it room temp

Cant possibly respond to all posts but will come on more often now as not gallavating round to drs, sorry for egocentric post except water thing but big hugs and hello to all

Oh and wedding is Tuesday 14th July now at cambridge registry office and recption will be on a boat on the river cam!!

Parofleurmapu · 01/10/2008 10:54

PPS Debs Flleur is outwards facing in her baby bjorn and good luck with prog

Upsidedowncake · 01/10/2008 11:00

Thanks Sophie and G43, well, she has only put on 13 pounds in a month - which is more or less what she used to put on in a week. She's 12.3 now and has gone from 50th to 25th centile. I know she's lost appetite because of her teeth, but I have to say that I'm dreading it when she decides to catch up! She's also not had her 12-week growth spurt either ...

Tooth is 3/4 through now.

Essie3 · 01/10/2008 11:05

Morning all!
Shock horror - Iestyn slept from 8pm to 5.30am last night!! We haven't been giving him a late feed/dream feed, because it made no difference, but now we have a plan...
If he does this on a regular basis, we'll introduce an 11pm dream feed, to see if he can do the 9 hour stretch until the morning (real morning, not 5.30am morning!!). Are any of you doing something like this?

5GoMad I'm trusting you that the brain rot is reversible! I always worry that I'm plonking Iestyn in his vibrating chair or on a play mat whilst I do things for me...but then again, I do need to have a life. So, following 5GoMad's advice, I'm reading a lighter academic book. (Don't laugh, it's this

Paro your wedding sounds so lovely. Cambridge in July, oh, joy! Maybe we can come and be a gang of women with babies toddlers standing on the banks waving at you!

Essie3 · 01/10/2008 11:06

UDC cross posted. Good to see you back - first tooth of the thread!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/10/2008 11:39

Essie enjoy I am reading Child 44 at the moment which was longlisted for booker prize and is harrowing but good. Did you know that we do an online book club on here, this months read which has been voted for is The Ghost Road.

Poppy as paro says no need to boil.

UDC I am taking it that is should be ounces not pounds has seb weighed yesterday and that is whet he has put on in the last 4 weeks as well.

Upsidedowncake · 01/10/2008 11:49

Thanks Sophie, that makes me feel better! When was S's last growth spurt?

Bore da, essie!

pleasechange · 01/10/2008 11:49

essie that's a great sleep. Nowhere near that for me yet, but A is now going from 8ish to 5/6ish with just one feed in between

poppy A went through a week of very unsettled nights and I've started swaddling him again. The reason I do this though is because it's his arms that keep him awake, so don't know if this would work for Edie

It's so cold today that the tights are sounding like a really good idea - had never though of it before, but it would certainly keep their little legs toasty. Another thing for me to buy - the list seems neverending!

amber where did you buy your little food net thing and if you don't mind me asking, how much was it?

alipalli · 01/10/2008 11:54

hi sorry not to have posted for ages. I have been lurking but am finding that p needs to be held and bounced alot which isn't compatible with typing.

Very excited about your gerald of wales book essie because he is an old boy of my school. Believe it or not I had been planning ask you whether you had heard of him as you are the only welsh medieval historian I know. When I was at school our history master did a big exibition about him. BTW the school in question was the abbey school attached to what is now Gloucester cathedral so he was educated in England!

Hi paro Your wedding sounds lovely. I was one of those annoying students in Cambridge so can well imagine the reception on the Cam.

Hello to everyone else too. Also wanted to say thanks for the advice from Aberdeen about car seats, and GF for the non dairy recommendations

PIL arriving today till Sunday so won't be able to meet the London ladies on Friday - sorry.

alipalli · 01/10/2008 12:14

Also meant to say:
PP pleased the nasal drops helped especially as it means I have now dispensed some useful parenting advice: a first for me

Sponge re your comments about SAHMs. Two of the Dads from my NCT group are out of work now so yes it is a worry.

goingfor3 · 01/10/2008 12:57

allnew you can get the net feeder from john lewis . They do free delivery too. I think that's what you mean!

goingfor3 · 01/10/2008 12:59

alipali trying to ignore the out of work dads comment. I fear it may happen to us too. Unfortuatley I wouldn't ear anywhere near as much as dp or even enough to cover childcare.

Essie3 · 01/10/2008 13:29

Pnawn da UDC - officially after 12 so I can say that! Please tell me you're learning Welsh in order to bring your children up bilingually in London? That's where I'm going on Wonday - the Welsh playgroup in Tulse Hill.

Ali good to see you back - I did notice your absence, but glad all is well and it's only cuddling that's the problem! Yes, I'm Gerald of Wales' biggest fan, and I've even joined a 'fans of Gerald' group on facebook. (I don't think the makers of facebook were expecting such saddos on it; I'm a member of several tragically nerdy groups...) He was superb, and if I could meet anybody dead or alive, he'd be there in my top 5. A dinner party:
William the Conqueror
Gerald of Wales
Dafydd ap Gwilym the poet (but not sitting next to me because he was a dirty old lech)
The unnamed scribe of my manuscript
Edward I

Hm, no women!

Sophie where is your book club? I really need to explore mumsnet more fully! I've never managed to join a book club because I live in two places but I'd love to be in one. (Is it pressure to read the books in time??)

Essie3 · 01/10/2008 13:34

UDC forgot to say I will put Iestyn in tights - off to get some tomorrow (despite DH's mutterings - the man has a gay sister for goodness sake!). He's only cute because he's miniature!

Is he the smallest baby on the thread? Apart from Neenz's Esther, I think he was the smallest at birth.

Alas, I think medals are always awarded to biggest things - biggest vegetable, biggest beef bull...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/10/2008 13:50

Essie if you go into the topic list look for Book of the month, we vote get a month to read it and then join in the discussion, Tilly usually trys to get the author in as well. No pressure to read at all.

pleasechange · 01/10/2008 14:51

Thanks G43 - didn't think to look earlier when I was actually in JL!

Amberc · 01/10/2008 17:45

Allnew munchkin feeder

pleasechange · 01/10/2008 19:22

Great thanks amber

Really quiet on here this afternoon!
