Just thought I'd better set up another thread as the old one is just about to run out.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
libralady · 13/09/2008 20:59

Can't believe it was me who started the threads all that time ago. I'd forgotten that.
L has been very unsettled today, feeding constantly and only 20 minute sleeps.

We were trying to sort out our lounge and M&D had taken ds1 out for the afternoon. As L wouldn't settle, DH put him in the sling. Thought it was hilarious when he tried to bend down and pick up something from the floor. I said, now you appreciate how difficult it is when you are pregnant!

EEC, sorry you had a bad night. I am going to get a Mirena, not had one before but have heard good things about them. I saw the nurse this week and she took some swabs to check I don't have any infections before it's fitted - she said I didn't have to have it done as I'm low risk but I would hate to have something go wrong afterwards. I've got some anti-inflammatories to take before the fitting as it can be a bit painful (nothing like labour though!) and she said I could have irregular bleeding for several months afterwards but then most women's periods stop altogether . And it's as effective as sterilisation - I really don't want any more dcs!

I thought we had Bryony into an evening routine this week but then the last 2 nights she's not been in bed till after 10. Tonight she went down just after 7, and I don't know what I did differently. Babies are a mystery!

disneystar · 13/09/2008 21:38

re snuffly babies i bought a great baby aspirator for samuel works great,he doesnt dribble from his mouth or sick from his mouth its all from his nose so he gets very snuffly
but i guess it would work great for any baby with a cold or snuffles

disneystar · 13/09/2008 23:26

i have a question please know i know samuel has differences between your babies and him but i have an important appt with a good paed next week and even though i had had dc before i have forgot little things like the age of first smile and laugh etc....can you guys fill me in on what your lo,s are doing at this special stage in there life please as i dont want to get fobbed of by this guy as they usually say oh dont worry come back in 6 mths...........

does not smile
does not laugh
does not babble or coo

no recognision of people
if any of your babies are doing the opposite please tell me as i feel something different with samuel they havnt got yet
hope you guys dont mind but really would like input on this topic
im going armed to this paed

Peanut73 · 14/09/2008 00:21

EEC - 20 months is a nice gap. The same between my younger brother and I.

Minnie - yes, they are pretty resilient. Felt like a terrible mother though after seeing charlie slip down to the bottom of the bath. Bad mummy! Your planned evening sounds lush... hope it all worked out to plan.

Disney - bring on Butlins! Sound awesome! As for hair, charlie is bald at the back and has a fine sprinkling of hair that is only about an inch long, if that. I hope it starts growing back thicker soon.

Re developmental milestones... Charlie is 16 weeks chronological age, but 9 weeks adjusted. He has only just started 'proper' whole face smiles (and doesn't do them that often), he doesn't laugh, babble or coo (just starting to make the odd squeak, but only once every day or so), prefers to stare at walls, light/shadow, windows etc... looks like he's gazing into space, doesn't turn his head when I speak and can't recognise people (except me and DH) as far as I can tell. I hope that helps a wee bit... it's a bit hard with charlie as i have to constantly correct his age due to his prematurity. I would have thought it was normal for sam not to turn to you when you talk as isn't he deaf? It would also make sense for him not to babble or coo being deaf too as he wouldn't know what to copy would he?

Pigley - hope you had a great night out!

Hmmmm... no period here, and no contraception either... is this normal? It's been four months since charlie popped (almost) and I'm fully BFing.

sk - if you ever had the time, which i doubt, you should really write a funny book about your experiences as a mum. I would pay to read it.

Day 5 without a poo. Poor wee man keeps straining with all his might but nothing. We live in hope that the dawn cloud will bring with it a brown lining.

isaidno · 14/09/2008 07:02

Poppy at 12 weeks

  • has good head control; can hold it up for quite a long time
  • smiles alot - responds best to high pitched silly voice and a smiley face looking at her.
  • does not laugh
  • coos and burbles a little
  • prefers to look at bright spaces
  • will look round to someone talking to her, does not recognise her name
  • probably recognises familiar faces - smiles mostly for immediate family
  • attempts to bat at toys, can grab blanket / tablecloth and feel it

Disney - I should think alot of Sam's development is delayed due to the deafness - alot of Poppy's smiles and movements are in response to voices and sounds and Sam does not have that stimulus. (btw We're going to Butlins in 4 weeks - it's fab!)

Peanut - no period here - with both ds they returned 6 weeks after stopping breastfeeding. With ds1 he was 7 mths, with ds2 he was 19 mths! Most women find they return when night feeds are dropped.

I went out last night, drank a bottle of wine, felt really pissed and actually had full proper sex; used withdrawal method so hope I'm not pg!!

Peanut73 · 14/09/2008 09:57

isaidno - thanks for the advice my BF guru! Quite enjoying this little holiday from them anyway! Congrats on your saucy night!!!

pigleychez · 14/09/2008 10:00

Morning all.

Had a good time out last night - Thanks everyone.
Had tears before i left but i was good and only rang home once. Was home by about 11pm though.
When i rang DH tells me that hes dropped her down the stairs but she bounced so shes ok! Thanks for that!
Was so nice to be all dressed up and eat a meal in peace!

Disney-
Abigails hair is getting pretty long now too. Starting to cover her ears!

Abigail is 7 weeks now :
*Has pretty good head control
*Smiles loads
*Doesnt laugh yet
*Babbles and coo's- amoungst other random noises
*Stares at faces
*Likes to look at bright/light things-Loves the telly! (movement/colour/sounds)
*starting to turn towards my voice
*smiles in recognition of mine and DHs faces.- but will smiles at anyone who smiles at her and gives her attenion!

Libra- haha at DH with L in the sling. Think all men should have to wear one of those pregnancy suits so they know how it feels!

Peanut- Abiagil didnt go for a while and was straining and only producing tiny amount. HV suggested giving her some cooled boiled water which has helped.

sweetkitty · 14/09/2008 10:34

isaidno - a bottle of wine and sex double we have still not got back in the saddle just don't seem to get the opportunity also have told DP he's to sort out the condoms this time (we will see how desperate he gets!)

pigley - glad you had a good night out

disney - I agree with Sam not hearing his development will be delayed but just a wee while later than everyone else, when does he get extra help I imagine baby signing is very important?

B nearly 9 weeks and does the following

*Good head control occasional wobble
*Smiles loads
LaughsUsual babbles and coos, seems to be intent to "talk" to you
*Stares at faces
*Loves the telly - I know but it's how I eat my dinner, loves toys under the baby gym not deliberately batting at them yet.
*Smiles more for me and her sisters
*Turns when you talks to her

I seem to breed really fiesty talkative females

Peanut - thanks theres nothing like the look on a childs face when they do their first free fall poo, don't worry you'll have plenty of you own stories soon

Right got lots to do still not dressed and it's quite a nice day here today (for now)

mama2leah · 14/09/2008 10:47

yup, its a relgious thing, but her hair grown back fast, but i would shave it a few times, so she gets nice thick hair!

my night was good after a day of no nappying, leah knocked out at 8:30, and slept thru until 2:30 and thenback to bed until 6 and then woke up at 9:45!!! woohooo!

oh yeh, had relations lastnigt, i got jumped didnt hurt, jus abit strange...and now im tinkin am i pregnant...arghh joys, hope not!

regardin development...
7 weeks and does the following:
*ok head control occasional wobble
*Smiles loads
*Laughs ( only done this a fewtimes)
*babbles and coos, and sleep TALKS!! ( how annoying)
*Stares at faces
**Smiles at her dad...LOADS
*Turns when you talks to her sometimes, but only times turnin one side..

disneystar · 14/09/2008 12:21

M2L what religion are you then? if you dont mind me asking?

peanut yes sam has hearing problems he is profoundly deaf in 1 ear and only a percentage in the other going to see audiologist again soon,

i hope you guys dont mind me askin re develpoment i know its not a race or baby get a prize for the winner
just trying to get a balance on how sam is doing compared to a "normally developing baby"
just been to the market and got him a whole load of winnie pooh pics for his room

isadno i had to laugh at your merryness on the wine and recklessness with the relations sound like a good night all in all then
is the withdrawal method safe as my dh tries to say oh honey its perfecly ok i know what im doing but im still hmmmm about that one

JODIEhadababy · 14/09/2008 13:15

x

minniemummy · 14/09/2008 19:35

Hello all!
[whispers quietly so as not to tempt the fates] P has slept through the last 4 nights!! Could this be permanent I wonder?! Sometimes it's taken her until gone midnight to properly settle but then that's it until 7am and best of all in her bedside cot so I'm not getting little fists in my back/side all night! Wooo hooo! (DS was 12 weeks so I wasn't expecting it at all.)
Withdrawal method, not tried it here, but it reminds me of an old joke:

  • What do you call people who use the withdrawal method?
  • Parents!

Not to panic you Isaidno!

wobblingweeble · 14/09/2008 20:16

HI All,

MINKUS - yep 2 of a kind right enough. He is much better now although last night was sleep from 8 - 1am, up at 2.30am, then form 3am to 6am - screeching, snuffuffling, farting, chatting, arm waving, leg kicking, general jostling he gets really windy then. Luckily weekends DH gets up to see to DD in the morning though or I am fecked like you - just when he has gone back to sleep, the knotted ball in my stomach has loosened enough for me to relax to get back to sleep DD waken sup and shouts 'Daddy' - she'll be 2 in a couple of week and still doesn't call me Mummy

PEANUT - LOL at the brown lining

SK - had a quick look at your facebook pics and your girls are soooo gorgeous. Have you got red hair naturally? YOu don't look famioliar but your DH looks very familiar - is he older than you and what school did he go to? Is the wedding in Ayrshire then?

PIGLEY - see it is actually NICE being out on your own and being YOU again for a wee while

The comp health show was abit pants TBH. I had a 5 min reiki - was ok. A 10 min shiatsu - was LOVELY and had a vit/mineral calculation - deficient in VIT C and Zinc - not surprising as have cold and run down, also deficient in colloidal silver. Unsurprisingly my eyes are weak (lack of sleep), pineal gland is under duress (hormones), kidneys weak (life source/ki/energy resides here in Chinese medicine - my ki/chi energy is depleted funnily enough just now), joints under duress - FAT and also hormone relaxin will still be wearing off, and liver weak - control in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) and to do with anger - Then I went to Asda and wandered around ON MY OWN and did some shopping - got DD a dance mat for her birthday

DISNEY - Calvin 9 weeks on Tuesday coming:

very strong head control
laughs occassionally
smiles a lot (mostly at me)
fascinated by paintings and tapestry and blinds but not TV
doesn't move head towards us when he hears us
kicks and punches things - not sure if it accidental though or he means it

MAMA2LEAH - your DH a muslim then? Ramadan just now. Did you not have to convert to marry? Is he Arabic/Pakistani/African? if you are pg again! That would be hard work. Are you ovulating - do you know?

Calvin's hair is about 1.5 inches long on his crown - red, and he has more on the right side than the left and the new hair is coming in strawberry blonde - his eyes are very dark grey just now.

DD has blonde hair and big blue/grey eyes like her Daddy - mine are hazel/greenish.

Calvin has a HUGE sticky outy bellybutton - so weird. DD keeps saying 'What's that?' Yuu could lose things in mine and DH and DD have innies.

My periods came back last Sunday and were away by yesterday - bit heavier than normal but basically ok - I have been taking agnus castus tincture since Calvin was born though and it does help to regulate hormones very well.

CONTRACEPTION - my personal opinion on the coil is - the egg can still become fertilised in the fallopian tube but the coil stops the egg implanting so in my mind it would be akin to having a termination IYKWIM. However, my understanding is that the minera coil is impregnated with progesterone so it makes the womb inhospitable for an egg too. I do know people have found it very effective and it is just my opinion. Has anyone ever used a femidom?

My DH was looking for his 'nazims' this weekend too - I am full of snot and knackered with being up with the DC so I think not!

On a brighter note - I have lost 4lbs this week - yeah!!! Only another 32lbs to go - easy And my exercise bike computer ain't working either bah!

DISNEY - is Sam's op to repair the heart or is it facial surgery? You must let us know nearer the time what time he is going in and we can all send him positive vibes across the ether to aid his recovery.

Well must go have a shower - been in the garden planting bulbs, picking home grown totties and scaring the milllions of spiders that live in our garden (and house) it is soooo spidery here!

CASS - you made it back to bellydancing yet? I building up to going this Thursday.

ite all - sorry if I have missed anyone and Happy Birthday to JODIES DS1 for tomorrow

disneystar · 14/09/2008 20:38

sweetkitty · 14/09/2008 20:52

disney - poor wee Sam we will all be thinking of him on the 15th

mum2leah - what do you use to shave babies' heads? Always wondered that, their heads freak me out the fontanelle soft bit, I hate even drying their hair.

weeble/rumpel - thank you I do make very pretty girls even if I do say so myself no I'm not a red head naturally dark blonde light brown boring colour so am ash blonde now DP is 34 and went to St Andrews he frequented the Hip Flask/Sullivans as well (we met in the Metro ) No the weddings in Paisley, groom from Dalry, bride from Newcastle so should be fun, don't know a soul though.

minniemummy - at sleeping through, we had 12ish, 3ish and 6am today

had a bath with B tonight was lovely just the two of us and she was smiling and laughing at me so think she likedit too.

mama2leah · 14/09/2008 20:59

how we shaved the hair was... get a trimmer and cut it to grade 1, then get a razor and go over it.. it sperfectly fine, infact midwife visit was in the middle of leah hair gettin cut, she was jus amused, and amazed...

dryin the hair freaks me out too, esp now she got bad cradle cap... but dh is a soilder...

JODIEhadababy · 14/09/2008 21:00

Disneydiet thread here

Sam's development so far is (10 weeks)
Smiles at familier people (or anyone who strokes his face, he likes that )
Laughs sometimes
Turns his head to sounds and lights
Holds his head up when I put him on hs tummy, and can hold his head quite well, (but to be fair he was pretty much doing ths from birth)

But as you said, it's not a race, and I would have thought that Sam (your Sam) Wouldn't respond to sounds anyway, and be extra sensitive to lights???

rumpel (sorry I can't call you anything else it seems weird ) Sounds like you had a nice time this weekend

Pigley Glad you had a nice time too

SK How's the potty boot camp going?

Re periods, still not had one yet, gave up BF at 8 weeks, and he's now 10 weeks, so not sure (have been using condoms, and it has crossed my mind tha I might be preggers again, but only in a paranoid way!)

Was wondering about the injection, does anyone here use it? And what are the pros/cons???

Peanut73 · 14/09/2008 21:00

We had a poo! Yeeha! There was much straining, I shrill cry and voila!

Personally, I'm convinced it's because my Dad's staying with us and charlie's episode coincides with Dad's arrival! Finally Charlie did a huge one after being on his own with us for an afternoon!

mama2leah it would be bad luck indeed if you're pregnant from your first time! Charlie has such fine hair, maybe shaving it is the answer?!

Disney I didn't realise sam was only deaf in one ear, i thought he was profoundly deaf so that would change things

Jodie happy birthday to DS1

Minniemummy slept through the night??? last four nights?

wobblingweeble sorry to hear the show was a bit naff. How far protruded is Calvin's belly button? It's very common for babies (esp. those who have suffered from colic/wind/constipation) to have little hernias there as a result of straining... I have seen quite a few now (quite common with prem babies apparently so I've seen a few in hospital). When you say huge though I don't know what you're referring to. The ones I have seen are anywhere between 1cm and 5cm long. I bought a mini homoepathic kit the other day (my mama is a homeopath but she lives in NZ). DH is coming down with a cold (sore throat more than sinus...) do you have a recommendation re what to take? Congrats on the weight loss!

Now I just need a proud mum moment... Charlie has grown 2cm in 6 days! Now 65cm. At least that explains my chomped nipples.

Minkus · 14/09/2008 21:35

Rumpel Louis and Calvin must have little chats about how to trick us- my boy settled at 9, then up at 2 for an hour, up again at 4 then 6 then 8. zzzzzzzzz. Although I find it easier when he is up lots but sleeps in till 8 than if he only woke once but then started the day early, at 5 say- if that makes sense. Fingers crossed you have a good night tonight!

Mama2leah I always know when I'm ovulating cos I get a funny gripey pain in my tum, a cross between mild period pain and trapped wind. It's called Mittelschmerz (honest! Google it )

Jodie I used the contraceptive injection for a while- pros= easy as just a pin prick in my bum every 9 weeks (got breakthrough bleeding if left it until 11 as normal), got rid of periods entirely once gap between jabs sorted out, pmt almost virtually disappeared. Cons= killed my sex drive. Totally. Dead as a dodo. (which is not like me at all.) Took 14 months after last injection for me to be fertile again. (well for periods to come back again anyway) SO might not be great if you want more babies within a few years. Tbh the deceased sex drive was the thing for me that means I won't use it again even tohugh it was really convenient.

Am having some real problems with sleep and bf at the moment, here would appreciate any advice you can give me o ladies of July. And June. And May Peanut!

Isaidno I took a leaf out of your book yesterday and wore a skirt, felt absolutely amazing and nearly (dare I say it) like my old self for a while!
