eandz · 22/09/2008 17:03

i miss the antenatal thread. when are they all going to join in?!

eandz · 22/09/2008 17:35

oh, by the way i'm covered in baby throw up...baby has been cleaned though. just waiting for someone to come home to help me. my step mother and mother have run off to sightsee.

hopefully · 22/09/2008 18:51

Oh dear eandz!

I am hiding upstairs while DP entertains Teddy for a few mins - have been feeding loads today, and am feeling somewhat tender, so having a few minutes off before the next marathon begins!

charitygirl · 22/09/2008 19:20

Oh hello postnatal thread, it is so good to read all your experiences so far, not to mention all the incredibly useful advice.

Bfing is going well here once I shook off the words of the hospital midwives saying 'if you're latched on correctly, it shouldn't hurt at all' which just wasn't matching my experiences. My community midwife was so much more helpful - she said 'the first few sucks can be toe curlingly painful, but then it should settle down' - yes, exactly! Such a relief to hear her say that!

Had a good day today - just lay in bed, no visitors or 'activities'. I recommend it!

Oh, and sex? Gah - not yet please....

My biggest pain, now that nipples are sort of calming down, are

  1. pain when I pee from (4) stiches in (first degree) tear. I pour water over as I'm peeing which definitely helps but it still feels sore. I know that my tear and stitches are nothing compared to hat some people have but does anyone know about likely healing times or other pain relief tips

  2. my other birth souvenir, a pile (bleeurgh). I have never had one before and I am scared of it and do not know how to 'care' for it. Have just started using anusol. IF I push at all to do a poo will I hurt it, or hurt my stitches? I have done poos but waited until they were EXACTLY at the right time (so sorry for what is undoubtedly TMI). Who else has poo stories?

My one crap tip for people struggling to get babies into baskets is to pre warm the mattress with a warm hot water bottle so that the transition from warm parental body to cool mattress is less startling. worked very well for us the first night home and no problems since then. OBVIOUSLY don't let the mattess get too hot (I know nobody would...)

ninja · 22/09/2008 19:34

Hi Eandz trust me we're trying to join you all - although maybe not in the dramatic way that you made it!!

potxola · 22/09/2008 19:40

Hi there.
Still using the Close wrap a lot. Today I have been alone for the first time with both my children (DH went back to work) How exciting!!!! I am going to say it again: WITH BOTH MY CHILDREN! Sometimes I can't beieve I have 2.
Anyway. today went very well. Lorea, very confy in the carrier, and I went to pick up her big brother from nursery and I even managed to cook 2 big pots of Spanish meals for my ds (I freeze portions).
In the afternoon I put Lorea in the other carrier, just for fun , and sat to read books to her brother. He was very happy, I think he thought that was not going to happen again.
So, I am geling positive and knackered, but that is only normal and i expected it.
Got a bargain on a mosses basquet from Mothercare yesterday, but my dd couldn't sleep on it because I did not have the time to air it and it smelt of facory dust.
I have cleaned it all now, let's see how it goes tonight.

OFSTEDoutstanding · 22/09/2008 20:54

Hi My DD is struggling to settle during the day, whenever she is awake she seems to only be happy when she is being held, which if she was my first would be great but with DS(3) to look after as well it gets quite hard. I can't use a sling as I get really bad backs so don't want to make them worse by carrying her all day. Does any one have any other ideas for settling her?

mustsleep · 22/09/2008 20:56

hi everyone

went to midwifes today to get signed off and she said that my tummy still looked a bit sticky outy and that she needed to examine me

she had a feel and said my uterus was spot on bac to where it should be normally, but my tummy muscles had split a bit further than they should have and not gone back

she said that if the gap was a tiny bit further then she would have had to refer me to the physios

she said i needed to do some postnatal exercises and she asked me if i had been given the exercise sheet but i haven;t and she didn;t have any

she tried to explain the exercises like the pelvic tilt to me etc but i have forgotton how she said to do it and was wondering if anyone knew what the exercises were or if this had happened to them?

she said that if i didn;t do the exercises then my tummy would never be flat again (although i don;t think that it has ever been flat)

jearund · 22/09/2008 20:56

I've just posted some pictures of Dougie on my profile (also a very cute one of DD).

gothicmama · 22/09/2008 21:06

mustsleep these look similar to those on my leaflet here

mustsleep · 22/09/2008 21:08

thanks

you know i'm sure that i am prob like this from dd as never really got back afterwards

but they are not checking me again so it can;t be that big a deal but she said that it could cause back ache and i'm still not completley ache free now

biglips · 22/09/2008 21:30

hey all!

had a baby girl - Kiah (pronounced as KI-AH and not Kee-ah)Helen, 9lb 3.5oz, on 21st...it was a very slow labour. but eventually did it!. got a 2nd degree tear (6 stitches and yes it was painful but im so happy to have a natural birth) {grin]

will pop back soon. Still trying to tackle the breastfeeding but prob will got for expressing as im ssooo sensitive.

digitalgirl · 22/09/2008 22:19

starlight I have been gagging for it ever since I got home from the hospital . think it's the thrill of the (currently) forbidden! still bleeding even though DS is now 3 weeks old....it's boring waiting for it to finish.

jenpet · 23/09/2008 08:09

I think it's to do with all the hormones too. We risked it at the weekend! (nearly 4 weeks) It all still works as well

Sassyfrassy · 23/09/2008 10:07

Hi everyone, Sassafrass here, had to reregister as my computer has blown up, can't get to my email and cant remember my password.

Ofsted, what kind of sling have you tried? Tie on wraps are really good at distributing the weight and you can carry in them much longer than ones like babybjorn.

Debs75 · 23/09/2008 10:33

Hi all you new mums, new dd is 4 days old, induced early due to gd, weird she was due today but so glad she is here.

Like you all I am knackered we are trying to get her into some routine tht fits with other kids but too tired to give it my all.
Had my 'baby blues' spent all afternoon sunday sobbing and feeling stupid still feel weepy due to naming issues but i don't need the tissues attached to my hand so getting better.

TMI moment coming up. I can't poo (sorry) and it is getting uncomfortable, using fybogel, anyone have any tips on how i can get this 'delivery' started.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/09/2008 10:36

charitygirl - I had a couple of stitches two weeks ago and they have now healed. My top tip is get a sports cap bottle of water and add some lavender essential oil and spray yourself with it after you've been for a pee. Then make sure you pat the area dry afterwards - v important.

Also have baths with lavender oil in.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/09/2008 10:38

Oh, and has anyone else got that nagging 'I haven't had enough sleep' headache? Is it not enough that we're sleep deprived, nevermind a fecking headache as well

barnpot · 23/09/2008 10:38

hello ladies, we're finally home after 3 weeks in hospital, feeling like a real mummy now, had very sleepless nights and sore nipples. do I qualify to join?

digitalgirl · 23/09/2008 11:55

hey debs it's my DS's due date today too! and he's 3 weeks and 2 days old.

knackered - have been up since 4am on a feeding marathon.

eandz · 23/09/2008 12:07

welcome home barnpot!

bogie · 23/09/2008 12:36

Debs I couldn't poo after I had ds1, The only thing that helped was when I was cod so I went and stood with the base of my back against the radiator and that some how helped so you could see if that helps or get a hot water bottle and lay with your back against it.
