plateofpasta-there was a meet today!!
Unfortunately, I missed it. FIL collapsed and we were called to hospital as we were going out the door. He's ok, we think.

plateofpasta · 08/11/2008 19:11

I know!!...kind of read about it a few mins ago...never mind...am always up for the next one...Christmassy one maybe?!

Sorry about your FIL- hope he is ok

fitnfortyone · 10/11/2008 00:45

IWASO, hope FIL ok.

HypnoBirthing training was fantastic. Very emotional really. 2 days intro to hypnotism then 2 days on how to run the course for mums & birth partners. Great bunch of people...setting up our own facebook group very soon to keep in touch. Mostly midwives on the 2 day intro course, 2 of them were indies and loved them to bits, shame (for me) they were Midlands/Oxfordshire based but they gave me loads of info and a debriefing on my birth experiences, since being surrounded by women who'd seen or had hypnobirths kind of got me upset over mine not going to plan & helped me get over some of the issues I'm still angry about. Had 4 trainee midwives, 2 hospital based ones and a doula mum of 5
Had one other HB mum there - she has 5 as well! Her hypbo babies were twins, first one came out textbook HB, the other was crash c-section and she was so much more together about that than me and my csection! Oh, and Merry, she's got RA too, went away during pregnancy now back with a vengeance, and she's due to try the new drugs in the next couple of weeks so fed back you thought they were wonderful
Got to fill in 2 assignment thingies and send 'em off for marking now, then got to order the birthing basics dvds to plough through. Should get the certificate about 6 wks after sending off the assignments then can get up and running. Or sitting.

Doulas don't have to do the birthing basics now btw, and anyone with an NLP qualification doesn't have to do the hypno intro by the look of things. Shame I just have knowledge rather than quals and have to pay to do more now!

iwantasecondone · 10/11/2008 08:29

FNF1-That sounds amazing, must find the time and money to do it soon. Thanks for asking about FIL, he's sort of ok but he is 80 and looking like he's hit that point of things just not working anymore. Dodgy heart valve...

littleducks · 10/11/2008 09:36

iwaso hope your fil is feeling better, it sounds scary and dramatic, hope he settles on a ward and is a bit more comfy

ewe did you find your passport

we went to fireworks at thorpe park last night, dh wanted to ride rolercoasters in the dark! and my final recommendations on fireworks is LEGOLAND, truely the best ive seen so worth a trip with toddlers in a couple of yeats for everyone

am sitting around anxiously waiting to dd has a place for two mornings at pre school as am going crazy on 24/7 childcare of the pair of them, letter was supposed to come last week once she is there as she gets older i can gradually increase her time till she goes every morning as she will be there till 5 (I have a sensible LEA who doesnt put children into state school till after their fifth birthday)

But we will be moving into a better catchment soonish

wontbepreggersagain · 10/11/2008 09:43

haha- i have two through the night ish sleeping babies AT LAST!!
on saturday i snapped when they had gone to bed ok (fed to sleep ) but woke up 45 mins later whilst i was having a bath- and all they wanted was to play- so enough was enough, turned the light back off, shut the door and went back to the bath- itching to go and shut them up, boobs always keep them quiet but i was strong and dh was wearing earplugs and eventually they started to give up- then magically we had two sleeping babes after 35 mins of whinging and moaning- they slept until 5.45!! at which point dh WANTED them to come into the bed because he missed them [ahh]

last night- bed at 7, less than 15 mins of noise- both slept until 6.50 this morning!!

i'm not going to count my chickens- but so far...............

merryberry · 10/11/2008 09:50

sounds good fn41. tell your ra twin mum about nras forum if she hasn';t already found it. i have the same name as here.

have also been wondering about ewe's passport! sorryt o hear about your fil iwaso. mine is also poorly, had prostate cancer removed friday, is having chemo too and is 72. does place quite a strain on dh, and me, worrying about him and mil and managing visits out to chesham. fil is very stoic about this and insists he'd rather have 2 years left with cancer than 20 and his faculties go. despite his approach, it casts a dark wash on the background of everyday, and we have to make special efforts to do more normal things in the foreground, if you see what i mean.

my mums also ill with fever and virus and missed a visit to us, and with gg's marathon mild d&v all last weeks and my frequent blood tests and dental work, i'#m getting lots of anxious toddler questions about illness. bless him.

merryberry · 10/11/2008 09:52

ah, wbpa, magic! lol at your dh missing them.

oh, lord, forgot to say, we cured gg's early waking with the baby whisperer's 'wake-to-sleep' technique. anyoen wants to now what we did, shout out, xx

Ewe · 10/11/2008 09:59

I have an appointment with the passport office this afternoon and need to shag the official persuade them I am worthy and hope they feel sorry for me.

I will be utterly devastated if this doesn't work out. I am such a nervous wreck, keep crying and feel very emotional - pathetic really but I was so looking forward to my trip the thought of missing it physically feels like someone has kicked me.

Sorry to hear about your FIL IWASO - my Grandmother has a weak heart valve and high blood pressure and is almost 90, it's tough with heart related stuff as they are reluctant to do much with old patients in my experience.

DD has stopped sleeping through the night as she has been poorly for so long and waking herself up coughing, now we're getting rid of that I think I may need to do some sort of sleep training to remind her that she knows how to not wake up!

Please all cross your fingers for me this afternoon!

littleducks · 10/11/2008 10:00

if there was ever a minute i wanted to flounce, its now hearing of sleeping babies, after being illl and clocks changing and very noisy fireworks at random times i have a non sleeping toddler and a non skleeping baby

have to start something just not sure what to do, will do proper bedtime routine today and try and get some decent baby naps in ans work on it all week, am sleep deprived

might buy a lightshow, any good? ds too old for mobile apparently

HolidaysQueen · 10/11/2008 10:40

i have a non-sleeping baby too we had 7 weeks of blissful 11-7 after 5.5 months o night wakenings and we knew it was bound to end... He has been ill since last week, and is now very congested, and we have had increasingly disturbed nights - last night at least once an hour I think it is compounded by start of separation anxiety as he wakes, screams, then settles immediately we put our hand on his chest He is so congested though and Karvol doesn't seem to do much for him.

wontbepreggersagain · 10/11/2008 10:57

sorry ladies BUT in my defence the girls are ten and a bit months so really should have been sleeping better

i wasn't expecting it to work- but hey i'm not going to complain!

good luck all those having sleep issues- i feel your pain!

e14mum · 10/11/2008 14:53

oh why oh why is gymboree so expensive but so much fun?!? (for dd of course...)
am desperately trying to see if I can trim £39 off somewhere to take her for a month but as we don't do anything else at the moment that I pay for, and all of the other structured-type groups take place when she's napping, I'm just going to bite down and do it. Why on earth are baby groups scheduled between 9-11 and then 1-3??? Most babies I know have a nap or two sometime around then. What I need is a drop-in from 3-5:30! Anyone else?

Sympathies for those with non-sleepers...

...and anyone climbing the walls with the rain today!

plateofpasta · 10/11/2008 15:52

iwantasecondone: thank you for being the only person on here who even bothered to say hello!

it's true what they say about these sites- you either jump on board from the start, or no one will give a t*ss...

merryberry · 10/11/2008 16:23

wow plateofpasta, no need to be rub our faces in it. i've got a fair amount to givce a toss about going on. i didn't notice any previous posts and am going to look now. not that i feel as thrilled to see a new face as i should do after a passive agressive post like that.

ok, strong reaction over and welcome if you are going to join us still. i used to live in queen's park, there was a part of it (not mine) that was very yummy mummy with delis and stuff...that your end? i was more back of the mozart estate.

themilkacow · 10/11/2008 16:31

hi everyone, i am new on here, live in NW6 too- seems like all you peeps have been on here for a reeaaaallly long time!

hi plateofpasta- i'm sure no one meant to ignore you- just caught up in other discussions probably and going stir crazy with the weather today, trying to keep the babies entertained :-)

themilkacow · 10/11/2008 18:56

ewe:

hope the passport works out- officials at passport office were right swines to my friend- he was just a bit scatty and lost his passport, twice...they now think he is forging them or selling them on, or something ridiculous, so he can never get a long passport again, only 6 monthly ones that cost a fortune.

stick to your guns.

hope the trip happens :-)

HolidaysQueen · 10/11/2008 19:15

plateofpasta - you aren't unwelcome, it's just that often conversation moves so fast (as do the babies!) that we often don't get round to answering everyone's posts, or even reading any other than the one immediately prior. fwiw, welcome

HolidaysQueen · 10/11/2008 19:15

ah, and welcome milkacow as well

iwantasecondone · 10/11/2008 19:46

Hi milkacow!
Am really tired and need to make a decision...ladies, please advise? LO is barely gaining weight, he's put on 400g in 2 months thanks to his desperate bids for freedom 23.5 hours a day. I know it's because he's so active, but here's the dilemma: He is still BF every3 hours during the day, eating three massive meals and a few snacks, goes to bed at 7 then wakes somewhere between 130+3, feeds well, then does it again up to 4 more times by 6. This has been going on for a very long time. I want to sleep, but am guessing he needs the calories and I can't physically get any more food and milk into him in the day. WHAT THE F DO I DO? I would do CIO if I thought t would be the answer, just can't figure out how to keep him fed.

themilkacow · 10/11/2008 20:03

hello to iwantasecondone and holidaysqueen...

iwantasecondone- is your baby 8/9 months as well, then?
was wondering whether he would possibly benefit from a big bottle feed (expressed, or formula, don't know what you would use) just before bedtime, just to really fill him up?

i was bf my little girl every 3 hours up to 4 months and it was doing my nut- was told by paediatrician that she was just 'an extra hungry baby' and needed more cals than most. Couldn't physically keep up with her needs. Turned to bottle feeds (expressing, then eventually formula as her demand too high) and she settled immediately. Slept through night 12 hours. She was just peckish, apparently :-)

if he seems healthy and happy to you, i wouldn't worry too much about centiles and growth etc...they are just guidelines. some babies just stay skinnier and are 100% fine with it.

when i had feeding issues with mine, i took her to st.marys paediatric dept for a one-off check-up as a private pt (my gp was shite and no one in the surgery knew diddly squat about small babies)...the paed lady was awesome- answered all my qu and alleviated all fears. was in there for nearly 2 hrs.

hope this helps.

e14mum · 10/11/2008 20:13

iwaso- I hope you get some relief. It sounds like you're doing all you can to get p filled up, my only advice would be that perhaps he doesn't NEED the v early morning feeds? Did someone recommend the "wake to sleep" method for getting them to sleep longer? I've heard other people find it useful too.

pop- you may notice that everyone on here just jumps in with their own news and thoughts... not that we don't pay attention to the rest- but it does move quickly! (Noone has yet replied to my ramblings about gymboree yet, but I don't mind )

goodnight all

iwantasecondone · 10/11/2008 20:22

e14- I was going to reply about gymboree but knew that i would get started on a rant and thought better of it. Yes, all classes SHOULD be at appropriate times and be very cheap.
Does he need the feeds, that is the question. During the day he feeds from one side only, in the early hours it's now both boobs and he is SOPPING when we get up.
I battled for ages with whether to do the bottle thing, but the truth is a)he wont take one b)I can no longer express extra as he is taking it all c)i threw the bottles away. Am totally cool with whatever anyone wants to do, but find it a bit odd now to use formula. Can't explain. Think I just never expected to get to 7 months BF, so...

e14mum · 10/11/2008 21:07

amazing, isn't it? There is so much to do around here and it's all free (Sure Start Centres, One O'Clock Clubs, even baby swimming!) but it's always 9-11 or 1-3! I suppose it is just for a short time that dd has 2 naps, so in a few more months we'll be able to go to more things. (She did love gymboree today though)

Ewe · 10/11/2008 21:52

I have a new passport!!!!!!!!!
