Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

evie - is your DS teething? I've been away from DS twice this past week so he has been offered bottles but he has refused them and also his sippy cup. So on those two days he went from breakfast until about 5.30pm without any milk or water, and just had solids. The tooth came through overnight last night and today he has been ravenous for both food and milk and has been drinking water really well too.

evie2000 · 04/11/2008 08:36

MB that's a very good suggestion and HQ you are probably right. Think will just offer bottle and see what happens, if it takes it great and if not I shall not panic!
By the way HQ are you ok with your pushchair, I remember you were havign some issues with the facing outward thing. My DS is enjoying it more and more (or so I keep telling myself)
oh and on the ttc thing another month with a bfn, trying hard not to get worked up about it but it's tricky isn't it!
love to all. thanks for all the advice - much appreciated.

HolidaysQueen · 04/11/2008 08:55

evie - still not sure about the pushchair. DS whines quite a lot in it, usually when he has seen me and then I've disappeared behind to push it again, which is very unlike him as he is not a whiney boy at all, and I really hate not seeing him as he is such a smiley little boy and it always makes me happy just to see his smiles [soppy mum emoticon]. But a new one seems such an indulgence.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you on ttc. At least you can have fun trying

merryberry · 04/11/2008 09:04

hq, that sounds like the seperation anxiety that they get around now! i reckon they havea finite dose of that till they work out object/person permanance, so i don't mind it if they have it in their chair, seems more humane in a way in that they can hear you occassionally (especially with chatty 3 year old in tow) and also have the rest of the world to distract a bit if needed. gg actually has seperation anxiety for his beloved ds1, which is sweet, but means we have a day FULL of mild panic cries followed by flummoxing fall-over welcome-backs, as ds1 runs in and out of rooms like a dervish.

ds1 fixated by fireworks. our house not amenable to them in back yard. local shows too late. so we've been slurping along the rain soaked streets perving other people's garden shows at tea time the last 2 nights...ds1 insisting on wearing a miners torch on his head for the dark. gg looking, well, bemused.

merryberry · 04/11/2008 09:07

ooh and we have a gg tooth. felt it in the night, not seen it yet. must be giving molto gyp to the wee fellow, as he can hardly bear my touch near his face.

sorry to hear bfn evie

oh and can i say 'bloody soft play'. we have a 9am session at a great one locally, with real coffee and it's quite enjoyable. but me and mate sat our under 1's in the ball pit to play on sunday, and they had matching d&v with no other contact/shared food etc. rang to soft play and said you need to decontaminate your ball pit. 'oh yes' say they, 'we do it twice a month'. YUK! should be every day i'd have thought.

Paranoid1stTimer · 04/11/2008 09:12

Hi everybody. I havent been on here for an age as I STILL cant get myself and Dillon organised after 7 months!!! Anyways, nice to see so many familiar names even if no one remembers me

I have noticed lots of you are back at work now so I am wondering how many have ended up SAHM's?

I have just had to give up my cr@ppy admin job at a stockbrokers (phew) cos it would basically have ended up costing me money to go back to work. I now feel really panciky and worried that we will have to rely on OH for everything although he says he is more than happy for things to be this way. He has also recently started to realise his early on comment of "I dont see what is so difficult" about looking after a baby all day was a little harsh. He used to be able to sit and watch Sky Sports all day with LO in his baby einstein but now LO aint interested in staying put OH is like "Whoa - this is hard... Want him back now???" whilst knocking on the bathroom door while I am trying to have a relaxing bath heh heh.

Thanks for any replies... I kinda feel like I am just barging in now...

evie2000 · 04/11/2008 09:39

hello Paranoid - barging in....goodness me - I'm the expert at that - on here so rarely and then re-appearing to ask for help and rapidly disappearing again! I'm sure (I hope) no one minds and frankly the support on here is fantastic and I love knowing I can ask stuff at any point...
Your description of OH is mirrored exactly in our house....the easy days of watching sports with DS are almost over for DH!
I am sahm....haven't thought too much about it at the moment, always thought I could justify by getting preggers really fast but as that isn't happening I could definitely have managed to go back to work but hey ho, I haven't a job to go back to and the thought of having to go to an interview without sick on shoulder and spat out food on trousers enough to put me off whole process!
happy days.

e14mum · 04/11/2008 10:17

morning! French toast went down a treat here. And to top it off, the washing machine was going this morning too, so dd was in baby heaven sitting in her highchair! (Not that the washing machine isn't going most of the time, just that it isn't normally loaded before breakfast )

spotted tooth #2 this morning. Hooray!

Found dd "yelling" at her little white bunny the other day- holding it in one hand and shouting! Same thing happened yesterday, she was talking to it with a very cross look on her little face... have no idea what bunny's done to deserve the abuse!

I am considering becoming a SAHM after I do my 3 months to keep the mat pay. Trying to figure out the best thing for all of us, but I don't think I'll mind too much (although I loved my job) because I love being with dd. But it's still up in the air.

iwantasecondone · 04/11/2008 12:50

I'm a SAHM too, but now that I'm a trainee doula I will have to work a bit to finish the qualification, then will just do the birth bit now and then. Staying at home til I'm called out to watch someone's baby being born...does it get any better?

CricketsMum · 04/11/2008 14:24

DD LOVED the French toast recipe - thanks HB!!! I think we should start a mumsnet weaning cookbook - am in awe at the creativity of you guys in what you feed your LOs!!!! Giving me loads of ideas - my LO thanks you all!

merryberry · 04/11/2008 14:36

hee, glad others liked it, wish id done it for ds1 back in the day.

we could call the book 'bake your own fruitshoots' or some such.

evie2000 · 04/11/2008 16:35

all this eggy bread chat means I'm going to attempt tonight...toast usually spends a lot of time being stuck to roof of the mouth so fingers crossed eggy bread makes it into the tummy!

fitnfortyone · 04/11/2008 22:51

Hello all (and yes we remember you paranoid
For those whose LOs love hummus/chickpeas, apparently they're a male aphrodisiac!
According to the kama sutra, if eaten every morning you'll be able to enjoy a hundred women...the Romans fed chickpeas to stallions to boost their prowess when mating and a 16th century sex manual called the Perfumed Garden tells how a man deflowered 80 virgins in one night after eating chickpeas and drinking camel's milk with honey.
Do you think we should switch from formula to camel's milk?

Off tomorrow to Northampton for my hypnobirthing practicioner course, don't think it's as hard work as being a doula!

iwantasecondone · 05/11/2008 06:52

fnf1-let me know what it's like? I'm thinking of doing that one too.

HolidaysQueen · 05/11/2008 16:24

I've just hosted my first NCT postnatal group and am pleased to report that I am not broody despite there being 3 very cute, very small people in my house! It was all the talk of no time to have showers, poo explosions, cowboy walking due to stitches, constipation due to iron tablets, cluster feeding, babies refusing to sleep in their moses basket etc... It makes me feel so much better about my 'problems': not liking the pram and having a messy eater is much easier to deal with than all of that!

CricketsMum · 05/11/2008 19:21

Have the day from hell... LO will have to do a lot of work to convince me that she shouldn't be an only child after today (just one example - every time we have changed a nappy today we have both ended up in tears)... but enough about that.

For those out there that are using Calpol Night and Medised (just in case I am not the last person in the world to discover this) they have both been 'reclassified' (is that the right word?) as only appropriate for kids over 2, not babies over 3 months as previously. It's something to do with the anti-histamine [magic-makes-babies-sleep-ingredient] in them and the dosage. I don't really know what the issue is despite a very nice lady in the queue at Boots trying to explain it to me - I was too busy reeling from the news that the one thing that has enabled me to get any sleep at all in the last nine weeks (Calpol Night) has now been outlawed. May have to resort to earplugs instead. Hope everyone else has had a better day!!

evie2000 · 05/11/2008 21:30

cricketsmum - I hope you're ok, tears and tantrums do not sound good. As for the reclassification -I say if you had it before then don't let's worry too much - everything in moderation is surely ok!?!?
take care and hpe you get a good night.

HQ - your list of issues reminded me of why I love my life and why I shouldn't be upset at not being pregnant again - the longer time goes on the more I wonder why I want to do it all over again!!

FfreckleFface · 06/11/2008 15:47

Hello,

I am really rubbish at keeping up with this thread.

Little Ff is an eating machine - current fave is meatballs in tomato sauce. Teeny little balls of mince, wholemeal breadcrumbs, parmesan, and parsley, cooked in a tomato, onion and garlic sauce until they are really tender. It means that she gets to feed herself the meatballs, while I spoonfeed the sauce along with whatever Carb-of-the-Day is (pasta is good, but mashed potato is a winner!). The crazy little child loves spinach too - I have to admit to cheating a little bit by piling it into a cheesy white sauce with some nutmeg. I made her little fishfingers yesterday, with mashed up peas, which she seemed pretty enthusiastic about.

Backwards crawling, but no forwards crawling yet. Two teeth, which came through with a blissful lack of fuss. Despite the enormous meals, she is still tiny, but the paediatrician has agreed that there is nothing the matter with her, she is just small. And she is very nearly 14lbs now, and can wear 6-9 month clothes now, so we're very pleased with her.

Hope everyone is getting along well.

merryberry · 06/11/2008 16:10

can i come for dinner at yours please? am very tired of meal planning and yours sond good

FfreckleFface · 06/11/2008 16:16

Of course you can. I can't guarantee that the grown up food will be as exciting, but we are baby food central at the moment. Bloke keeps asking if we can have food that is predominantly cheese sauce made with lots of butter and whole milk, but my still-enormous tummy means that we are all salads and steamed fish

Ewe · 06/11/2008 16:47

Rant alert, had rubbish week and need to get it off my chest!!

I came down with D&V bug on Monday night which lasted all day Tue too. I finally start to feel better and DD comes down with something, really high temperature (up to 40.4) and her cough etc still in full force. Managed the temp by giving her Calpol which after much forcing it in/her vomiting finally stayed in.

Took her to docs this morning and as you all know we have been struggling with a cough for over three months now after all the waiting and investigating they now want to do I saw the paediatric GP this morning who diagnosed a chest infection She has had it for three farking months and numerous doctors appointments and NOBODY noticed!!

To say I am angry is an understatement. We then had to take her to appointment with Opthalmic Consultant as other GP thought she had a squint - she doesn't apparently - however that meant that had to dilate her pupils which she did not enjoy at all.

Then back to GP again this afternoon for a session on the nebuliser trying to clear her chest and apparently she has spots on her chest that are symptomatic of meningitis but as DD is alert the GP is fairly sure it isn't not terribly reassuring but I have to assume she is qualified enough to make a call on it. Temp peaked at 39.7 today so not a huge amount better and she just has such a sad look about her and of course is totally off her food.

Anyway, we've got her on anti biotics and nebulised now and have to just monitor very carefully for next 24 hours but I am so angry at them for missing this I had to get it out before poor DP becomes XP again after me taking out my frustration on him (and not in a good way!).

Oh and it's another four days off work [sigh] they are going to love me!

And breathe.

CricketsMum - the reclassification is due to people using it irresponsibly apparently, not due to anything actually in the medicine. My GP recommended it to me and explained all of the fuss about it, basically, providing you are using it sensibly it is fine.

Unfortunately some people were totally abusing it hence making it OTC for over 2's only, I just get it on prescription now, bonus!! You sound about as stressed as me, we should ditch the babies, drag out IWASO and get a bottle glass of wine!!

MarchNowFebMum · 07/11/2008 09:05

LOL IWASO at your comment about 'watching' someone's birth, if you would have been my doula there would have been heavy lifting involved. Still worry about her back after holding me up for 2 hrs, poor woman

Sorry to hear frustration ewe but we are good place to get it all out! And even though they were shite before sounds like things are back on track for a recovery.

Am so tired. Feel like it's just weeks and weeks of build up that I will never get rid of. Have decided to quit work - was doing 2 days a week. Of course have mixed feelings about it but really would rather be feeling better and spending time with dd/dh. Having the old not doing either properly feeling and really need to get rid of that. Am cheekily going to keep the nanny though for two afternoons - dd enjoys her and gives me some free afternoons.

My dd eats spinich too! And cabbage the other day was well received. Shocking!

Ewe · 07/11/2008 11:41

I too find it very odd that DD likes everything veggie wise, check spinach, cabbage, parsnips, brussels, aubergine and carrot (all things I hated as a kid!).

Do you think they grow out of liking veg when they realise there is cake etc?

MNFM, wow, congrats on being a SAHM now! With a nanny for two afternoons per week... Could I be more jealous?

Understand very well the feeling of not doing anything properly, been off since Tue this week with me being sick and then DD being sick. Today DD is in nursery but am working from home so I am near and feel like everyone is losing out and I am busting my arse for nothing! Sure it will get better though and DD is going to have THE BEST immune system soon [hangs on to this small glimmer of hope]

Just been down to M&S and bought the dine in for two thing so looking forward to a nice relaxed evening and wine tonight! Oh and they id'd me, huzzah!

Have a good weekend all.

iwantasecondone · 07/11/2008 12:36

Ewe-hope things are improving!
MNFM- LOL...that's why I'm at the gym 4 times a week! Preparing myself! Lucky you with the two afternoons...ahh...if only..[dreaming emoticon]

plateofpasta · 08/11/2008 17:04
