Egg, that baby who died of Ready-Brek didn't die from the Ready Brek, it was from freakin' gravy with mash the parents gave the poor mite, also (and the salt in the gravy).

They had decided that formula was too expensive (I've only Brfed so wouldn't know, but is Formula really that dear??). It was only a 3month old baby, too, just not the same situation as with our ~8month olds.

I feed DS scraps off the table/out of our usual food, no special baby food. He does get too many Quavers, admittedly, anything for peace when I'm trying to prepare family meals HV said "We all do it!" when I admited this to her the other day. Tonite he also snaffed a Smartie from the floor, courtesy of the grandparents who brought a large tube for each child hence brought DS4 his own large tube of white chocolate buttons . So, just one smartie isn't at all bad.... plus he's had quite a few half-crushed bix on the floor at the toddler groups we attend.

I detest white chocolate, so not like DS4 is going to get his tube's worth vicariously, either -- DH is gonna do well, though.

LLjkk Slaps own wrist, bad mummy alert -- dS1 didn't even know what a biscuit was before about 18months old.

If I had time I would post a long message to the sleep is weak threads, DS is complete nightmare. At least he hasn't slept much today, so perhaps tonite will be relatively good.

alkar · 28/10/2008 07:39

Been giving DS weetabix with whole milk for a few days now on the advice of the hv as he wasn't putting on weight so it can't be that high in salt. He loves it . Also giving him bread sticks and french toast that hv said would be good. I think they can handle salt a bit better now they're older.

DH woke me up at 6 this morning so I can see it being a long day. We have seperate bedrooms cos he snores badly but he is the noisiest person I have ever met and he wakes me up every morning but its usually more like 7.30 - I can cope with that!

Off to the trafford centre later to look for DSs christmas presents, whats everyone else getting?

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 28/10/2008 08:27

we have been hit by the tummy bug- ds had it on sunday which was fine, dd however came down with it in the night and i smell like a puke machine can't have shower as the poor little mite refuses to let me to put her down, bless her, its really hard when they are so young as they just done understand,

i know i am being dence but what should i do about feeding her? i am guessing to offer water but she will wnat and need more than that???

leesmum · 28/10/2008 08:41

Morning all x

I've been giving ds2 weetabix for a while now, ds1 had it for breakfast until he was about 18 months and he still loves it now. The amount of salt in them really isn't that much and it is a good breakfast cos you can put loads of milk with it. Ds2 has started messing about again with meals, while i was away he got a big front tooth and the ones either side look about ready to pop through so that might be the reason.

My mum tried to give ds2 some ice cream the other day and he was not impressed! he does however love malted milk biscuits and i'm sure if allowed would devour half a packet I tried him with rice pudding yesterday and he wasn't sure about that either.

Happy bithday to Rozzy's ds2, will you get any snow today? your boys would be really excited about that, we woke up to a frosty morning today

Alkar we have already got ds2 a Makka Pakka for christmas and i think i'll get him some bath toys as well, tbh he wont be getting loads as he already has loads of toys, i love the trafford centre at christmas.

lljkk formula is about 6-8quid a tin depending on which one you get but i think people on low earnings or one parent families get milk tokens to buy it with, i may be wrong though! How are your lot doing? are they getting excited about christmas yet?

Sarah a huge well done to you on the weight loss, thats great! I havent weighed myself in ages but i think i'm still the same as i was a few months ago, i should really try and make an effort to lose some before christmas....so i can pile it all back on

Princess how are your two doing? any more spots? i've heard Piriton is good for chicken pox. Glad to hear your dd had a lovely birthday xx

I'm off to buy ds1 some new trainers in a bit and ti get him and his cousin a pumpkin each for fri!

Love to everyone else x

omy · 28/10/2008 08:53

Hi Sarah - poor DD - lets hope it passes quickly. There is something you can get from the chemist - rehydration medicine - dyoralite is one brand. See this website for more info
kidshealth.org/parent/firstaid_safe/emergencies/vomit.html

Lljkk - LO has already worked out that digestive biscuits are yummy - she tries to grab them out of my hand - it really makes you realise that you have to watch what the whole family eats if you want to make sure LO gets a healthy diet! - she knows already if there is something we are not offering her! - phew glad the weetabix is OK - she loves it!

omy · 28/10/2008 08:59

Leesmum - what is a makka pakka? We really need some bath toys - at the moment she only has the sponge - which she loves to eat!

Good on you Sarah re the weight loss! I have lost a bit of weight - but am loathe to mention it as I am just as likely to put it back on!

Won't see LO till DH comes home tonight - hope she is OK.

omy · 28/10/2008 09:00

Sally - how is work going? Hope you are all coping OK

rozzyraspberry · 28/10/2008 13:06

Omy - hope your lo is ok - must be horrible being away from her whilst she's poorly.

Sarah - hope your lo is ok too. I would offer food and if she takes it fine but if not I wouldn't stress until it's being going on for a few days. Hope you feel better soon too.

Leesmum - we did have a little snow today. Just tiny flakes and it didn't last long but it is blardy freezing here. And you are a woman after my own heart - I too am wanting to lose a few pounds before christmas so I can pig out without feeling tooooo guilty!

That baby dying because of too much salt is so sad - sounds like the hv should have been keeping a closer eye on them. Ds3 is another one who has weetabix - he has it with milk and half a mashed banana.

Ds2 birthday today - can't believe he's 4! We didn't get him too much this year as there's a limit to how much lego and cars you can have and with ds1 birthday in December and christmas coming up we're going to have to have a massive clearout. He is especially chuffed with the little lego sets we got out of asda for £4.

We've got ds3 a smart trike for christmas so he doesn't feel left out when we go for walks and the other 2 are on their bikes. We've also got him a vtech steering wheel thing which the other 2 loved but I gave away when I decided we wouldn't have any more children.

Better go - expecting pil arrival imminently (with yet more lego for ds2! - that's all he wanted).

alkar · 28/10/2008 17:38

Happy birthday to your DS2 rozzy.

Leesmum, I love the trafford all through the year . Went to ELC and have found some presents for DS so I think he's pretty sorted now. He's getting the vtech rocking chair and a trampoline of his grandparents a smart trike from us and my dads got us a years pass to the safari park . Then its his birthday at the end of Jan so more presents but I think we'll get him the trike as a christmas / birthday present otherwise it just gets silly.

Been to the toy library today and picked up some stacking rings and the leapfrog table thing, I refuse to buy him loads of toys when I can borrow them for free. Partly cost and partly environmental issues stop me!

omy · 28/10/2008 19:41

Alkar - toy library! what a good idea. I will see if there is one near me.

Rozzy - snow - yeah - DH had to drive through sleet and snow to get home today - am now happily snuggling LO who's cold is on the mend - she still sounds very chesty though, but is quite chirpy.

sallyforth · 28/10/2008 22:01

omy thanks for the good wishes.

haven't read all the posts (sorry) but LO is ill - cold turned to chesty cough turned to wheeze and crying all the time

took him to GP today but was told "duh, it's a virus" so we took him to nursery but then he went downhill - not so bad for them to phone me to ask me to take him home early, but he has been extremely miserable this evening poor mite

was thinking of taking him to hospital this evening tbh but now he is sleeping peacefully after calpol (even though he wouldn't take the whole 5ml b/c he wouldn't stop crying) and he WAS exhausted so maybe the sleep will help him.

my poor baby...I hate it when they are ill...

swottybetty · 28/10/2008 22:19

hullo all! and welcomeback leesmum ... not sure if you missed my namechange but just in case i am tyaca.

happybday rozzy's ds2! and princess sorry to hear about the pox on your house. hows it going? has your ds also been poxed? fingers crossed for a short and painless time.

omy how is your LO? are they backfrom the inlaws? dd also been a bit ill. temp and all sleepy and irratated. i confess i didnt mind the stage where she just wanted to cuddle up to me to snooze and look pathetic . for once her dad wasnt good enough ...i felt like such a mum! then this morning she was covered head to toe in a rash and the dr's surgery put us in a separate room from waiting room before appointment .apparently its just a post virus rash thankgoodness.

bessie nice to hear from you. i too have overfeeding dd fears ever since she's been eating proper food. she now has little budha tummy and boobs that all fold over each other when she's in the bath . i figure if she gets ill and goes off food she will have lots of supplies to keep her going and so out of harm.in the meanwhile i really must not give in to her screams everytime i dare to eat in front of her

egg- you sound as tho x factpr plays as important a role in your life as it does in mine. we start our sat night planning on monday or tuesday. fish and chips this week. and my measly peasly small bottle of wine.who is your favourite? i used to like diane but not find her so darn twee. preg hormones here in spades - i have a no small crush on austin. how very very wrong..

alkar is your toy library good?i keep meaning to use ours, or even volunteer there as may be a way to meet people. completely forgot about it tilyou mentioned.

sarah -- how are your dc's now? and how is dd feeding? wd on the weightloss .

sickety sick here still. only thing that seems to help is distraction. a good tv programme or conversation really helps.unfortunatley, dd's patter isnt fantastic and tv progs always end at some point and i instantly feel awaful again. whats the ave legnth of sickness? i am thinking of starting a countdown thread in pregnancy for moral support.

swottybetty · 28/10/2008 22:21

sally -cross posted, so sorry to hear about your ds

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 29/10/2008 08:20

dc's over tummy bug now, all well, will wait til tomorrow to c if i get it!!!!!lol

we very nearly have top tooth, no sign of any at the bottom, but the top one is so near to coming through, dd keeps licking it so i guess it feels strange!!!!!lol

sorry to hear of so many poorly babies, get well soon lo's xxxxx

alkar · 29/10/2008 09:36

Hows your LO today sally?

Toy library is great swotty. Its basically just a cupboard stuffed with toys. Has loads in there and you can take them out for 2 weeks at a time.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 29/10/2008 10:03

just heard ad on radio for 1/3 off baby products at sainsburys til 3rd nov,

gingermumi · 29/10/2008 11:44

computer is playing up so idea if this will work. Off to city farm today (before the weather turns!) ds wont have a sleep today so will probably be a right grump. Meeting some other mums for a pub lunch first. hope sick ones are feeling better. take care.

Gill79 · 29/10/2008 17:55

our toy library is great - a room at a local library with lots of space to play and a man with a guitar for songs.

Just been and stocked up in sainsbury's - they can't keep the shelves stocked as so many mummies filling their trollies!

Swotty - I think my sickness stopped between 16 and 20 weeks (ie my first day of not feeling too sick to move was in week 16 although it was a one off) Also you were talking about shakiness and headaches - yup yup yup I had killer headaches, was really shaky and hangover-y and my GP sent me to A&E after taking my pulse as palpitations so bad. My god - not looking forward to going back there in a hurry!

OP posts:
sallyforth · 29/10/2008 18:44

am typing this with LO on my lap protesting "EM! EMMMM!" He has been dreadful today. Just crying and coughing alll the time Also he has decided he doesn't like calpol anymore I stayed off work with him today because no way was he well enough for nursery. DH and I did shifts last night - brought back memories of all those neverending night feeds when he was smaller(do you remember my regular 3am posts?) DH was wrecked this morning [smug emoticon]

omy · 29/10/2008 21:39

Sally - hope your poor LO feels better soon. it is awful when they are ill. Leila must have had a virus too - I thought it was teething at first - maybe it was both!
All control goes out the window and they can BF whenever they like (ie 3 or 4 times a night!!!)

Sarah - how funny to get a top tooth first!

Swottybetty - They got back from the inlaws last night and LO didn't seem the least bit bothered about a night without me! Humpf! Of course DH came back with only one of her precious shoes - you know those great little leather slippers that actually stay on and cost £16 to buy!!!
I hope you get over feeling sick soon - it is such an awful phase - had a nice image in my head of your LO with her boobs folding over in the bath - my first LO was just the same! She is a yummy (grumpy) 16 year old now!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 30/10/2008 08:24

omy, my DS had 4 top teeth before a bottom one too!!!!

Well we i was up last night with lo- she was violently sick in her bed bout 9 pm, in her hair etc etc etc, so she was very upset, cleaned her up and re dressed her but she refused to be put down, in the end (bout 3 am) i made up the travel cot in our room and she slept for a couple of hours, ( she was in the travel cot in one night more than ds ever went in there- he hated it!!!!!)

i dont think i have any proper sleep since sat as since then someone has been sick!!!!!oh dear,

Hope everyone else is ok, and lo's are beginning to feel bettter , xx

alkar · 30/10/2008 11:46

So much illness. Hope you're ok sarah, that sounds like a tough night.

Just been to the road safety unit were they tried loads of car seats in my car. Think I've chosen one now just off to google it for the best price but I moght wait for the christmas sales!

Off to the pub for lunch in a bit with a couple of colleugues. I'm officially starting back at work on Saturday but taking loads of annual leave so I won't be working properly til 7th Jan apart from a 4 hour shift on 27th Dec which I volunteered for to ease myself into it.

missnatalie · 30/10/2008 12:53

Hi Everyone,

There seems to be so my poorly LOs at the moment. Its horrible when there ill isnt it. Henely is suffering really bad with teething pain at the moment. He cries non stop and is being sick too .

swotty - Hope that your sickness goes soon. Mine went at 10w but returned with a vengance at 18w and stayed until i gave birth.

Hope everyone else is doing ok and coping with the cold. Its blardy freezing!!!

I took your advice and went to my mums for a few days. It did make DP appreciate me more and i missed him like mad. We had a long chat and he agreed that his family are the cause of most of our problems as there always interfearing. He lso wants us to have more "me and him" time. He know that i find it really difficult to be away from Henely but this weekend were going back up to my mums so im going to try and build up the courage to leave him with her for a few hours whilst we go for a meal.

MIL has really pissed me off this week. She phoned DP to let him know that shes in the middle of aranging Henleys christening WTG!!! DP gave her a harsh telling off and told her that his christening will be happening in Manchester not Wolverhampton. She didnt like it but stuff her. Hes our son.

Ive got to give my months notice for not returing to work, before 8th Nov and im pooping it. I have no idea why really. Think its because my boss has been really nice and understading with me. He supported my during all my sick days due to my HAE and when i had the EP & MMC. I feel like im letting him down in some way but i know he'll understand my reasons for not wanting to return. Im going to email him later.

Were going to a haloween party in the park on saturday. I cant wait. My sis is coming with her 2 DSs too. I cant wait. Henley is dressing up as a monster, Harvey the grim reaper and baby Damon a skelaton. There going to look so cute.

Right off to Sainsburys now to stock up on baby stuff.

missnatalie · 30/10/2008 12:56

Forgot to ask. Has anyone moved their LOs into the next stage car seat yet. Henley had a go in his cousins and loves it. He seems so much happier being able to look out of the windows. Ive been looking at the Maxi-Cosi Tobi. Its on sale in boots at the moment for £131.99. Are there any others that anyone would recommend?

swottybetty · 30/10/2008 16:00

hiya all. at duration of morning sickness gill and missnat. i wanted three or four kids but have very def changed mind. cant believe how lightly i got away last time. tempted to go to docs cause that and headaches really bringing me down.

omy i did not realise there was such a big gap between your dcs . i bow down in awe at handling an under one and a sixteen year old girl at same time! have you been watching that series The Family? i still feel a lot more like emily the stroppy teen than i do the mum...

sarah congrats on tooth. how is your dd? same to sally - hope your ds on the mend.

oh alkar - pun lunch. i am green with envy. like this ... no,actually, like this

missnat glad going to your mums helped get things into focus a bit. good luck with handing in your resignation - it sounds like the right thing to do. do it sooner rather than later so it doesnt hang over your head.

oh.... dd screeching. i must feed her - she does not understand about the sickness and still insists on her three square meals....
