pub lunch not pun lunch. tho i think my dad would prefer the latter

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:33

Argh I got behind again .

Omy / Sally / Sarah / anyone else with poorly LOs I hope they all get better soon. DS2 has a cough and cold and has been miserable, although cheered up today after a monster long lunchtime nap.

Toy libraries are fab. We used to go to one when DS1 was smaller, and it was a whole room, with a big fenced off bit for babies with loads of toys you could play with there and then, and you could basically pay 50p or £1 for bigger ones, to borrow any of the toys. I used to like going just to play there really, it was good in winter and a bit like going to a gentle nice softplay area without the big kids running round shouting!

Swotty sorry you are feeling so shite. Have only skimmed but if you are getting v bad headaches should be worth getting it checked out to be safe. Also dont forget extra sickness and nausea can mean multiple babies .

DS1 had to go to A&E yesterday as, to cut a very long story short, he got a whiplash / jolting / shaking kind of injury on Saturday, has been off colour ever since, puked on Sunday, and then yesterday during an almighty cry-athon he cried bloody tears . His eyes were streaming orangey pink water. It was horrid. Checked on internet for possible symptoms and it said can happen after shaken baby syndrome so I was worried it could be connected to his accident on Saturday (on swing at park). Called NHS Direct who said I should take him straight to A&E for an x-ray.

Anyway, after various checks he seems to be fine, and is back on form and eating and running etc now so no serious harm done. Not sure what happened with the eyes though, but he has cried since and they have been clear thankfully.

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:37

Missnat glad things are looking up for you and DP and tell MIL to s*d off about the christening, I have heard many people on MN say their MIL tries to take their LO's christening into her own hands...

Also, when DS1 moved into next stage car seat we got Maxi Cosi Priorifix XP or something similar sounding. We wanted an isofix one and that was recommended.

This time for DS2 we have chosen a non-isofix one as dont have enough isofix points in car for them all to have one so both DTs will have to go without . So we got the Britax Evolva 123 thing as it goes up to age 11 instead of only to age 4. Will probably though swap DS1 into the new one and DS2 into old one. If you click on product reviews on mumsnet (at top of page) they have reviews of all things like car seats. Cant look now without losing my post but think Tobi one is good.

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:39

Just had a look. Both my Evolva 123 and your Tobi get approx 7 out of 10. You can read the reviews on there too.

swottybetty · 30/10/2008 19:41

at the whiplah and bloody tears egg that sounds horrible.

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:47

As you can tell I am now trying to read earlier posts I missed...

Happy bday to all the 4 year olds who have recently had bdays!

I seem to recall from the Ready Brek story I heard that the parents fed the baby RB instead of formula as it was cheaper, and back then it did have added salt, so it all added up and was way too much for the lad .

I wouldn't worry about sausages once a week or so. It is recommended to avoid salt entirely for first year, but I have had three different HVs recommend weetabix from 6 months, and so many baby recipes have cheese in which is salty.

My babies love custard, which is full of sugar, but they only have it once or twice a week and the poor mites never get biscuits due to the gagging puking thing so it is a nice treat for them. We have only had 3 projectile pukes between the two of them this week which is pretty good going, and NONE today, unless someone chooses to puke in bed tonight .

We took them (and DS1 and my sister and her DCs) to Pizza Hut (or is it now Pasta Hut) yesterday for lunch. Poor DS2 was so unimpressed with his pot of mush and kept trying so hard to get my pizza, and I did let him munch on it a bit, but with a 50/50 chance of it triggering a projectile I was so on edge I grabbed it back from him after about 30 seconds . He got a bit of cheese though .

Hello to leesmum, we miss you round here. Can't you give up work so you can come back and see us more regularly? Glad all is well with you.

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:48

Oh hello Betty! You joining in with my ramblings?

Egg · 30/10/2008 19:49

Oh and Betty, pray tell when when when will your scan be? How many weeks are you now? I lose track. You might be 7, but you might be 10... sorry .

Gill79 · 30/10/2008 20:59

Egg Read the full story on zappata. It must have been very worrying even without the horror film tears.

Betty you will be fine. It's horrible and hard but it WON'T last for ever and might even not last that long (and when it's over you will feel good. I found myself dancing in the kitchen) It definitely must stop at end of first trimester for a lot of people otherwise why would that be the common conception? And it's an excuse to eat nothing but mint vienetta or whatever it is that you can get manage.

Try and pop back later but my sausages have arrived

sallyforth · 30/10/2008 21:10

Well today I went out to work while DH stayed with poorly DS

twas great, I drank tea, ate chocolate and gossipped while still getting work done. whereas DH was force feeding DS calpol. its good stuff as you all know

LO still not great but lots better having had all that calpol!

thanks for all the good wishes

Egg crying bloodytears how awful.I would have been terrified.

Gill79 · 30/10/2008 21:29

ha ha Sally I love that. Although very about your LO being so ill. Like Egg it must be very worrying but is good you managed to have a day out (even if it is at work!)

sausages were nice.

who was asking about car seats - Natalie? We've got the maxi-cosi one - not the Tobi I don't think cause that is blue or red isn't it? ours is a very dark brown. Maybe a slightly cheaper one. Not isofix either - tbh not really sure what that is. Anyway it's fine, really easy to fit apart from the fact we have a 3-door so in fact not that easy but when you've done it it's really secure. About £140 from mothercare I think. And after the DREADFUL one we got from carhire company on holiday is fantastic. Really am rambling a bit tonight. Nothing to do with second glass of wine

Natalie - it's good to hear that DP is standing up for you with his mum. Sounds like he's definitely on your side and things are going to be alright between you?

Happy Halloween everyone,

Egg sorry to hear about your ds1's ordeal glad to hear all well again,

dd still being sick -although only at night, eating food not really wanting her milk during the day, she is in our room in travel cot too as she seems happier to be nearer us,

have a good day all,

c u soon xxxx

gingermumi · 31/10/2008 13:07

OMG Egg thats so scarey, glad ds1 ok. Have put ds in second stage car seat as he was too big for the other one (and i couldn't lift him in it anyway). We have one from Argos thats pretty good, it lasts until they're about 4 (or 2 in toby's case i expect). It cost about £40.00 and is made by nana (?). It reclines in three positions which is useful when they slump asleep. we decided to go for that one and have a rethink when he's bigger. i like the one that swivels round so it's easier to get them in and out but i expect they're really expensive.

Missnat, glad you went to your mums and that dh is standing your corner now. perhaps his mother will back off a bit now. She's got a bloody cheek about the christening!

Have lots of shopping (online) and stuff to do so will pop on later and see how everyone's day is going!

strawberrycornetto · 31/10/2008 13:45

hello everyone. Work has been horrific and had so much going on .

Will try and catch up tonight but just wanted to say hello.

swottybetty · 31/10/2008 19:51

hiya strawb was wondering where you'd got to. sorry work's tough. my tip for feb thread catch up is to never attempt to read back more than a page ... anything more and you've no chance of even starting.

egg -- sorry i missed you last night.i think by that point i'd buried my head under duvet and was feeling v sorry for myself.i fear i have gone really quite mad. same again today but dh got me out for a walk and that made me feel a lot less like running away . boo to hormones. i am 10 weeks. scan on 18th. i really show and dh's family so know and i feel like a bit of an ass for not telling them . me boobs are dead firm and round again tho' hurrah!

gill i think you mint vienetta comments have sunk into the (comparatibly shallow) reaches of my subconscience.... stopped at shop today on way home to buy myself mint cornetto....

wow ginger at the £40 car seat. just told dh about and his eyes have lit up .... i had had no idea how pricey they are until people started talking about it here. we have just got one of those little mirrors you put on back window so you can see baby and ahve since coined the phrase "car-faced".... we had no idea just how mardy and miserable she is in the car. and never asleep!

sally at having a day off at work. i am more a fan of medised ... its the drowsy ingredient that helps win my vote ...

happy halloween back at you sarah .

rozzyraspberry · 31/10/2008 21:39

my god that sounds scary Egg but glad your ds1 is ok

Car seats - we have just put ds3 into a forward facing car seat which he seems to quite like. It's a graco one but can't remember the full name because we bought it for ds1 5 years ago. Definitely didn't pay anymore than around £70 for it though and it's been great - still looks like new. Ginger we also had one from Argos which cost around £30 which we got for our second car and it was good too.

I'm probably tempting fate here but I think we may have turned a corner. Things are starting to feel a bit easier although ds3 is managing to move a little and seems attracted to all the toys/lego which he shouldn't have. I had him at the shops christmas shopping yesterday for 2.5 hours and he didn't cry at all which is so unlike him. Was up feeding him twice last night though but so much nicer when he's a bit easier in the day. He only sleeps for an hour max the whole day but doesn't get too tired/grumpy.

I'm also starting to feel ready to go back to work. Only 5 weeks to go - not sure how I'm going to fit everything in once I go back but I think I'll enjoy being out of the house 3 days a week.

Sorry you're feeling so rough swotty - you know it's worth it in the end. Sympathise with the hormones - I was really up and down right through my last pregnancy until ds3 was around 6 months old! In my first 2 pregnancies I felt sick from around 6 to 14 weeks although it was definitely not as bad as some suffer and I could cope with it with constant snacking. With number 3 the sickness was so mild I had myself convinced there was no baby there by the time I had my first scan.

Missnat - glad your situation is improving - It's really hard leaving lo's but you have to trust the person you're leaving them with so hopefully you'll be able to leave Henley with your mum.

Better go just now dh needs to use the computer. Take care everyone.

rozzyraspberry · 31/10/2008 22:04

SB sorry I've just realised that my last post sounded really smug going on about how I didn't get bad morning sickness last time. The point I was trying (very badly!) to make to you and Gill and others who've had a terrible time with sickness was that it wouldn't necessarily be the same next time. Was trying to be encouraging but failed!!

sallyforth · 01/11/2008 03:05

hello... and yes its the return of the night poster...

well today I was back at home looking after DS. in the mOrning he was awful but better in thr afternoon, even playing a bit altho of course only wanted stuff he is Not Allowed e.g. my mobile which he puts in his mouth, am terrified he will elctrocute himself or break it somehow.

And tonight was going well until he woke demanding feeding (I think cos he has not fed much while ill and now he is getting a bit better he is v v hungry). I have to go to work today to make up the hours from yesterday so that I don't use up my annual leave too badly (already used some for mat leave you see) BOO HISS.

strawberrycornetto · 01/11/2008 16:13

Ok, its impossible to catch up so I just hope everyone is well/better. Swotty, hope you feel better soon. I had lots of headaches with DS although I got away lightly with the sickness. It did improve though.

Rozzy, I think we have also turned a corner. In the last 10 days, DS has started sitting properly, crawling, got a tooth and today we had waving, so I think he was close to doing lots of things and quite frustrated. He's a much happier little man now .

ALso, very exciting, I am sure we had a first word today. DS reached out to DD, touched her arm and said her name. It was pretty clear, her name is just two syllabuls (oh dear, can't spell!) and am so sure its what he said. Not surprised really, he completely adores her.

So its all quite happy in our house, despite the rubbish weather. Hope you are all having a good Saturday.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 01/11/2008 23:03

hi all

Drank too much wine with dinner, need to sleep, but wanted to say hi xxxxxx

xxxxx

leesmum · 02/11/2008 10:06

Hi all

Sarah it sounds like you had a good night, you can never have too much wine. how is Rosie today, any better?

Strawberry your lo is coming along nicely, ds2 is trying to crawl but he just sticks his bum that high up in the air he nearly does a complete rollover, i've just got his card through for his 8 month check, even though he will be 10months on the 19th! And the weather is rubbish here as well, i dont mind it being cold just not rain with it

Sally great to hear your ds is getting better, it's horrible when they're poorly, you feel helpless sometimes and would do anything to make them feel better xx

Poor you Rozzy having to go back to work just before christmas are you looking forward to it? I must admit even though my days are a lot busier now, my job is a piece of piss and is easier than being at home! it's nice to escape sometimes. Talking of Lego have you had a look at their website? there is loads of cool stuff on it, i'm spoilt for choice for ds1,

Swotty how are you feeling love? its harder 2nd time around simply because you can't always get your feet up and relax like you should be doing, i had loads of headaches with both preg but found drinking loads of water helped a bit. Not long now till your scan keep us up to date won't you, i'm very excited for you hun xx

Ginger how is Toby doing, i know what you mean about not being able to lift them in their car seats! we will put ds2 into ds1's car seat in the new year when we will get ds1 one of those bigger seats that uses the proper seat-belt, I have been doing some on-line christmas shopping, i just dont have the time for trudging around manchester looking for everything, i would much rather sit on my arse with a glass of wine and do it that way!

Egg your poor ds1, what a frightening thing to happen is he all better now? xx Are the Dt's behaving, do they play together and have loads of fun, i bet you have to keep a closer eye on them now they are starting to move around a lot more.

Gill have you got anymore holidays coming up?, i'm very jealous of you, you always seem to be getting ready to go on another adventure with your dp and Malcolm. Are you back at work yet? or havent you decided yet?

Has anyone given their little ones chocolate yet, dp's aunty gave ds2 a full bag of white buttons without even asking me i walked into the room and he was sat on the floor with his buttons looking like a pig in shit!!! He had managed to stuff quite a few in and was enjoying himself, it's not that dont want him having chocolate but one or two would have been enough.

Anyway have a lovely weekend ladies x

rozzyraspberry · 02/11/2008 10:36

Strawberry - as of this morning we too have our first tooth!! It's been bulging for a couple of months but has finally cut through!!

Leesmum - I decided to go back before christmas to get it over with. I thought the thought of going back in Jan might spoil Christmas for me where as if I'm back before then the initial nerves will have gone. I'm only doing one week in December and using up my leave around Christmas. Ds2 is always looking on the lego website!! He got the cement mixer, rubbish truck and coast guard truck and boat from his grandparents and aunt for his birthday and is getting the fire station from santa. It has taken some coordination to make sure no-one got the same thing as everyone knows how much he loves lego and that thats all he wants for bday/xmas. By the way there is a fair bit of lego on the boots website that's included within the 3 for 2 on gifts offer.

Better go ds3 is awake and we're off to the park. Dh is at work today but has just phoned to say he managed to bump his head and is in A & E to see if he needs stitches.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 02/11/2008 10:40
