Totally agree re striving to be a good mil especially as I have 2 boys!! I know I have to be careful to get on with prospective wives as I may never see my boys at all!! My mums quite good with my brothers and their gf's, she always makes sure that she chooses a good time if she's going to be negative in any way!!

Ds2 has two teeth coming up at the same time bless him. They finally seem to be breaking through though so hopefully he'll start feeling better as he's been very up and down (on top of the cold) and I don't know if my stomach can cope with many more teething nappies!!!

Tyaca - I hope I didn't sound negative re 2 children being hard work. I was trying to allay any worries re the small age gap then came away thinking I sounded smug about it being hard!!

My MIL is lovely but a bit soft, dp has a younger brother who is like an only child, and she more or less speaks for him, he is so gormless its unbelieveable and he's nearly 21 FFS!!! i'm determined my boys will be a bit more independant than that, DP is well trained in cleaning, ironing etc because he went into the RAF at 19 for 6 years.

Count yes ds1 is 4 on the 25th of next month and i can't tell you how much i want to throw the bloody Argos book in the bin !!! he wants something on every page.

Gill i'm placing bets on you being the next one to make an announcement you seem so in control and chilled about everything. I'm having no more, i'm happy with my two gremlins thank you!!

Well, have earnt my bad mummy badge for today! Not only is ds still throwing up but i gave him milk that had gone off! poor lamb. Am hoping dd1 can come over and look after him tomorrow otherwise i'm going to have to stay home. Working motherhood sucks! obviously i want to be with him but work will be a pain. i wish i didnt have to work at all exactly for this reason. i hate the guilt trips every 5 mins and convincing myself it's all ok when in reality I hate leaving him at nursery and feel crap evry time i do.

Ginger do you mean cows milk? is he ok now, i did this with Ds1 when he was about 2, i put it on his cereal and he kept saying "mummy i dont like this" and i was going "don't be silly and get it ate"

Hope ds is ok ginger. As much as I'm not one for taking sickies I would just say I was sick myself if you really can't leave him tomorrow and your work will kick up a fuss if you say you're off because he's sick. You are entitled to take unpaid parental leave - I think it's intended for occasions like this when your lo is sick or you have childcare problems.

Girly weekend sounds fab leesmum - if only! Ds2 is 4 on the 28th of October so only a few days younger than Lee. He is lego mad so only has eyes for the lego pages in the argos book. He is after the lego fire station which santa will be bringing and a few other kits. I was actually talking to him about his birthday today asking him what he'd like to do and his response was ' build up the lego kits I'm getting for my birthday' - easily arranged at least! How's Lee doing at school - is he in full days yet? Ds1 was at a birthday party yesterday of one of his new school friends. We're so glad that he's making lots of friends and enjoying school.

mitford sisters - Just had a v v quick look at the thread and saw your post about 2 left feet. I have heard so many bad things about them - a few people have said never to use them because stuff doesn't arrive and then they take a couple of months to refund your money.

Hello all, still lovely out isn't it. Me and ds went and sat by the tennis courts in the sunshine the other day and he was mesmerised by the balls going back and forth.

Bessie, my high chair and bits from the evil Two Left Feet finally turned up, last week after 7 weeks wait. I'm glad not to be feeding ds on my lap anymore and he enjoys the new pleaasures of looking out of the window and bashing the table.

Lovemymum, I'm not surprised you're a bit enraged sometimes (I am like this often, and I haven't suffered a major loss!) - my advice is don't try to do too much and ask for help from dh.

Had a good mumsnet dream last night - we had a February group hamster that we took turns to look after. Someone took it home and killed it by sitting on it.

I'm 'encouraging' ds to drop his night feed (giving him water instead of milk), and he is so furious about it. We didn't get much sleep last night. Have any of you had success with this?

He has only ever slept through the night twice (at about 3 months), and I kick myself a bit that I didn't employ the core night method at that point.

oh and countto10 - you did not sound smug at all! part of reason i am so happy to have preg this month is cause a late may baby will mean that once dh has taken his fortnight pat leave, it'll only be two weeks til his mega long summer holidays... couldnt begin to have contemplated this without his help at the start.

Events over took me here, I did sort cover Sunday with a friend but by the evening I had bug too (yes it was cows milk, on his cereal but now I don't think that is what made him ill). Now dd2 and her boyfriend have gone down with it. Thankfully I'm getting over it but dh had to come home from work yesterday afternoon because I couln't manage ds as well as being sick!

Gill I really want to know who killed the hamster. Bet it was me. DH for some reason calls DS1 hamster as one of his many nicknames and the other day for the first time DS1 replied "I not a hamster daddy, I a baby". He tells everyone he is a baby... (he is 2.7).

Tyaca lovely to hear you sounding so excited about the new little one. Are you feeling knackered. I think, though could be really wrong, that it might be easier for this stretch of pregnancy, having a younger baby than a toddler, as they are less physically tiring. I might be very wrong though! Ooooh maybe it is twins . May is a nice time of year for babies I think.

StrawberryC, best of luck for tomorrow. You are all very brave. Whilst I sometimes long to be able to walk out of the door and leave the urchins behind for the day, I am too far gone into my retirement now to be employable I reckon.

Mitford I started trying to get DD to drop night feed by giving water. She still carried on waking for water at 3am instead of milk but it does mean that if you do try to do any form of sleep training you know that she has not been getting any calories in the night anyway, so you are not starving her, IYSWIM. I did the water at night for a couple of weeks I think before the night nanny came in, and she said it was great that we were already onto water as it meant it would be easier to get her to drop it (who was she kidding...).

Tyaca can you try to get a second hand Tripp Trapp? I have three here but still need them all, but they are a good investment, DS1 still loves his and would not be happy in a "normal" highchair, but it means he is the same height as the babies (and us) and he can carry on using it for years to come.

Right I will try to come back and do part II of my long post in a while, I know I have missed a lot of people out on here but need to sort bottles out for next feed before someone screams and also Neighbours is on .

Oh BTW Gill, yes Paul RObinson is still in it! It was Marco who died, although I dont think you will know him as he was fairly new. And one of Paul's bits on the side nearly died too (think she is still alive at the mo).

Oh ginger that sounds bad. You poor things. Forgot to say DTs both have dodgy tummies at mo, although so far seem ok, and not being sick (any more than they always are). I feel crap too but I have a cold and not tummy issues (yet).

Hi Everyone!! Were back from sunny Fuerteventura. It was lovely!!

Must start off by saying congratulations to tyaca. I was wondering which one of us would be first.

The holiday was fab. Henely did nothing but cry for the 1st 24hrs but that was due to the heat. Temp was in the late 30s so way too hot for him. I kept him in the shade most of the time. If he wasnt in the shade he was in the pool, which he absolutly loved. And he can now swim!!! I cant beleive it. The german life guard at the hotel taught him. He looks so cute (a bit like a frog), kicking his legs and splashing his hands. It was definatly a proud mummy moment .

He made me even more prouder when he started saying mama. I was brushing my teeth whilst he was on the balcony, playing in his cot when he started shouting MAMA, MAMA, MAMA. That same night he started saying DADA and now hes saying BABA too.

The flight was a total nightmare. The was no room at all and all he wanted to do was bounce on my lap. We requested extra leg room seats but couldnt have them as Henley is under 2.

Overall it was a fab holiday but next year. we'll be taking grandma .

The MIL has really pissed me off again. Whilst on holiday i got Salmonella food poisoning and have been in and out of hospital since getting back. I had to go back again yestreday as i was in agony so we asked the MIL to babysit. Whlst we were sat in A&E she phoned DP to say that Henley is palying with his ears so she has given him some paracetamol. There is nothing wrong with his bloody ears. Nothing at all. And besides that i had already given him 5mls an hour before because of his cold. Shes always telling DP that he needs different medicines when theres nothing wrong with him. I also told her not to give him his milk until he had eaten his solids. So what does she go and do? The complete oposite. Yesterday he had no breakfast or lunch because bloody grandma gave into him asnd let him have milk. Im having a hard enough time tring to get him back into a routine without her messing it all up again. AAaaarrrggghh .

Weve had to buy him one of those push along things that encourages babys to walk. He loves his feet and walks round the living room laughing at himself (with the help of the push along of course).

Damn baby crying. Got to go. Will catch up again later.

Went to HV today, and she gave me some useful info on sleep training, and I was to find that giving up the night feeds is only a preliminary to the training. This was beginning to dawn on me anyway, as ds is still waking for the water and obviously has other 'issues'.I don't know s**t about motherhood.
