mitfords i reckon you know more than me . really. have you tried starting a sleep support thread in the sleep section? may be people with some experience to pass on. good luck.

surely not two dead hamsters in one day? one dream one and one RL one. that would be hellish spooky. it would also make me wonder whether there was some kind of psychic connection between awake leesmum and sleeping gill??

egg - rofl at "i'm not a hamster, i'm a baby" . yes i am really tired. but i just go to bed at nine pm and that sems to work wonders. last time round i wasnt back from work by then half the time so a lot easier now. getting away with no sickness etc, am only five weeks tho' so should prob not beckon vomit gremlins to my door so readily. rozzy's post re morning nappies made me laugh - dd poos regular as clockwork half eight am....

LOVEMYMUM · 30/09/2008 17:01

Missnatalie - oh dear - not nice to be ill with a LO to look after.

The current medical guidelines say to wait a year after c-section to ensure the walls of the womb have knitted together again and do not come apart.

DH no longer talking about renting the house out. He can be so stupid about money! He spent money on lovely furniture without thinking about how much money we would need to live on. I've had to put my foot down and go thru a budget (gulp - when seeing the result)!.

There's so much to learn being a mum!!!!!

I go up and down. I put Katie down for a sleep at 3.15 and will wake her up soon.

Am trying to wean her.
How much do your LO's have at a meal?
Katie eats/drinks:

Milk on waking.
Breakfast: Baby rice and milk.
Mid-morning: Milk
Lunch: 1 or 2 tablespoons of jar food, water, sometimes milk.
Mid-afternoon: Milk
Dinner: Same as lunch.
Before bed: Milk

alkar · 30/09/2008 19:23

The skin prick test was easy strawberry DS didn't even notice. Good luck back at work tomorrow.

Lovemymum - DS has a milk feed on waking then some baby porridge about 30 mins later. He doesn't always have solids for lunch, I sometimes forget to pack something or he's asleep. For dinner he has loads, tonight he's had 2 carrots a sweet potato a leek and some brocolli then a banana all sliced up and iven to him as finger food. I still bf whenever he wants it and must confess that I've no idea how often. After bf on demand I find thinking about mealtimes really hard now!

omy · 30/09/2008 21:36

Hi all (waves hysterically)

have caught up a bit - TYACA!!!! i am so impressed and a little jealous - good luck with everything.

Missnatalie - Salmonella poisoning - ugh how horrible - and Ginger - all sick with bug - poor things. At least you can assuage the guilt of it being your fault! (bad english to an english teacher - oops!)

MIL is down from Wales to look after LO for 3 days this week as DH is trying to get some work done. All fine so far - I do feel as if I am not doing my job very well though - ugh GUILT is how you spell mother - it is not possible to do everything well. LO is a joy as always. xx night night

omy · 30/09/2008 21:39

Lovemymum - our routine is the same as yours - but she only eats 2 bites for breakfast. she yums up one of those 'ella's kitchen' things every day - eating about half at lunch and half at dinner time. If we have fish she loves to eat it off my plate and she chews on bread too. (no teeth but she manages quite well)

strawberrycornetto · 01/10/2008 11:58

Hey all. Well I am officially typing this from my desk at work. Everyone has been very nice and I haven't actually got any real work to do yet, just catch up reading which is ok. I've also managed to express the first of my two feeds and got 3 1/2 oz which i am pleased with. Was a bit at the room though, it is in the facilities department (very male team) and its a room off an open plan area with lots of desks in it and the door HAS A WINDOW!!! Also, it has an external window onto the street although there was a blind, and no sink etc. So not ideal......

So what is everyone else up to today? Make me jealous telling me what you are doing with your LOs. Am sad not to be with my little man and DD (nearly 4) almost broke my heart. She was really sobbing at bedtime and threw herself at me saying "mummy, I really really love you, please don't go where I am not, please don't go back to work" I said I would buy her a locket she could have my photo in though and the offer of jewellery seemed to pacify her somewhat

Omy, DS seems to eat lots more than that, he will eat a whole Ella's kitchen in one go for each meal or about the equivalent in home cooked. Am I overfeeding? He's not especially interested in milk although I suppose that may be because of the dairy in my diet going through my milk and making him sick. His meals are like this

Milk on waking.
Breakfast: Baby porridge or 1 weetabix.
Mid-morning: Milk
Lunch: 100g of food, usually with protein, water (if he swallows any rather than spitting it all out)
Mid-afternoon: Milk
Dinner: Same amount as lunch but just veg, usually some fruit for pudding.
Before bed: Milk
Dream feed: Milk

Alkar, thanks re the skin prick test. What results did you get? Sorry, did I miss that in your posts?

Better go, think my boss is coming

strawberrycornetto · 01/10/2008 12:44

Oh, and DH just called to say that DS is refusing to drink milk from a bottle, having not once refused a bottle in the last 6 months and having one every day. DH has said he won't give him any food until he drinks milk so he's going to put him to bed with no lunch.

rozzyraspberry · 01/10/2008 13:39

Hi everyone.

My lo actually eats quite a lot now.

Milk on waking
8am 1 weetabix with 1/2 banana
12pm lunch of veg (equivalent of the size of ellas kitchen), then a yoghurt,
2pm bf
5pm 1/2 ellas kitchen mixed with homemade veg and chicken or pasta, then some fruit and a baby biscuit.
6.30pm bf.

He's only just dropped the mid morning feed and now eats much more solids at lunch and slept through last night! I'm quite pleased he's dropped this feed as I'm now plotting about getting out on my own for a few hours at some point for the first time in 8months. Also if I'm still bf when I go back to work in Dec it means I'll only be away for the 2pm feed although he may also have dropped that feed by then too I suppose.

Tyaca that's good timing on the pregnancy! I'm sure you would cope fine anyway but it's always nice to have back up.

I hope all of you who are poorly are feeling better today.

gingermumi · 01/10/2008 15:51

Am at work so only a quick post! Everyone recovering now, am totally knackered but, hey, that's motherhood! . Hope all ok

LOVEMYMUM · 01/10/2008 15:55

Katie doesn't seem to be eating as much as your little ones but she is sleeping all night on it.

rozzyraspberry · 01/10/2008 16:44

lovemymum they're all so different I wouldn't worry about Katie eating less than others.

Andrew has actually really picked up what he's eating over the last few weeks and I think he's a little older than Katie (born 11th Feb).

Egg · 01/10/2008 19:51

Just wanted to say my two eat usually three or four Ella's Kitchen / Plum Baby sachets / pots between them and also a yoghurt between them for lunch and supper. Plus it is usually the stage 2 Plum Baby ones with protein and lots more cals than the Ella's Kitchen or Stage 1 ones... They also both have four bottles of milk a day. Usually only have one weetabix at most between them at breakfast though. I think I must be overfeeding! I guess they are older than most but still. Even little DD eats tons.

Both have dodgy tummies (have changed a record 15 pooey nappies today and that's NONE from DS1) and DD has been throwing up a lot, DS2 also throwing up but to a lesser extent. Not much more than he normally does. DD has thrown up a huge amount twice today, and a fair few mouthfuls about 8 other times. I am not happy. Just waiting for steriliser to run and then I am off to bed. Been a crappy day all round!

Will catch up properly soon.

alkar · 01/10/2008 20:49

Skin prick test didn't show anything strawberry but they only test for the milk protein. Next step would be to see if he's lactose intolerant but I can do that myself so I may be boiling up poo in the kitchen if I can get the other solutions from work

DS had a pooey nappy earlier so I left him nappyless for a while in his room. He went quiet so I went to check on him and he had had another poo on the carpet and a handful of it was making its way to his mouth. Just managed to get there in time, he didn't actually taste any!!!

Bessie123 · 01/10/2008 21:00

Just a v quickie

Mitford sisters - have you tried giving LO a big dinner and then a whole bottle before bed? Dd sleeps through the night on that.

Lovemymum - I give dd 3 meals a day equivalent to about 2 plum pots each and then breastfeeds first thing in the morning and mid morning and afternoon and then a bottle of formula at night. She is a greedy one, though.

catch you all soon. xx

mitfordsisters · 01/10/2008 21:42

The weaning onto water at night worked without any need for further 'training' and ds... pause for drumroll... slept through the night!!! Much rejoicing and jubilation and serious snoozing went down in our house.

Well done on your first day Strawberry, and you are a star mum for expressing as well. Can you obscure the window with a poster or something for more privacy?

Sorry for everyone who's had a pooey (and sicky) day especially Egg - sounds like you are getting through all those wet wipes.

strawberrycornetto · 02/10/2008 14:28

How's everyone today. I'm at work (and the novelty has kind of worn off now ) but waiting to go off for our allergy appointment at 4.

Alkar, glad your result was negative although I think sometimes its nice to have a definitive answer isn't it. What is this boiling poo thing??!!

Mitford sisters, yay on sleeping through the night. DS had been good but last night I was up 6 times . I put it down to teeth, but perhaps he knows I am back at work and is making a point....

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 02/10/2008 14:32

he all, sorry not been on here, but i have been poorly with the flu!!! still fullof could but can atleast move now!!! (atm dc's have avoided getting it but time wil tell)

DH is complaining of a sore throat so am guessing its heading his way, oh no!!!! if it knocked me for 6 he will be at deaths door for ages

i have been down in the dumps and feeling sorry for myself and sis not want to come on here and moan!!! lol

Hope you are all ok. how are al our not so little ones doing???? cannot believe how fast the months are passing xxx

strawberrycornetto · 02/10/2008 15:28

Hey Sarah, poor you for having flu. And definitely poor you if your DH gets it!! My DH had flu when DS was about a month old and I could have killed him - he was so pathetic!!!!! Hope your DCs to avoid it, they seem to bounce back so much quicker than us though don't they.

tyaca · 02/10/2008 19:20

argh! so much illness. i hope egg's house of nappy has got better and sarah here's hoping that your dh gets away without cacthing it too.

interesting to see how often and much people are feeding their lo's. we're on three quite big meals, a 7oz feed first and last thing and then the rest of the day i struggle to get enough milk into dd to make her 500-600ml minimum. have started to give her tea at 3.30pm just so i have a reasonable chance of getting her to finish her bedtime bottle.

strawberry - funny how you've posted just a little more reguarly now you're back at work . aside from when our babies were popping in feb, i think our busient antenatal thread was prob at about six months preg when a lot of people were still at work but their minds just didnt seem with it! how is your ds doing with the bottle now?

grrrr. dh has had duty tues and weds this week so not seen him til he home at 11pm and now he's off for two days to a conference and then he has to do duty on sunday too.... grrrrr! and i cant even curl up with a bottle of wine . well i can. and i have..but its a teensy rubbish small bottle and is a bit minging.

did we find out who killed the dream hamster and whether leesmum had in fact killed a real hamster ??

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 03/10/2008 13:09

hello. how is everyone????

Just to let u all know, Ds has settled into preschool really well, he is sad to come home

DD still has no teeth, nor is she crawling but can get from sitting to tummy and have a good old groan very well(every 5 mins) she is saying baba and dada too, which is cute, oh and loves merlin our chocolate labrador, she shuffles herself to get near him then tried to eat his tail[ hmm] yuk!!!!

we are all good i am still full of cold but feeling much better, spk son

strawberrycornetto · 03/10/2008 15:08

Tyaca, no real surprises about the more frequent posts!! DS did ok with the bottle after that one day so I assume it was either teeth or the cold he has subsequently gone down with.

DS also not crawling and no teeth Sarah. He is also not great at sitting but he is end of Feb and was 3 weeks early so I'm not stressing. He is allergic to milk though.

Return to fulltime work not going great. Had to leave early for DS's test yesterday and today I am leaving early for doctors. Did someone here have problems with a coil recently? I had one fitted two weeks ago and I seem to have just started to bleed randomly mid cycle. I swear my family has become our gp's best client.

Gill79 · 03/10/2008 19:27

None of you guys killed the hamster. Sorry if you were hoping for notoriety! It was a lurker called Amy who as far as I know does not exist.

Malc is almost almost almost crawling (or almost getting to the point of falling flat on his face may be more realistic). He's also learnt to communicate using the medium of speech although he does it all with the word "ba". He sat and chatted away for ages to his granny and grandad this evening about his day. And all he wants to do all day is be walked round and round and round.

We're still on holidays in Scotland and apart from the weather being amazing whenever we're driving anywhere and rubbish the rest of the time it's been a good break and I've managed quite a bit of climbing, a day's hillwalking and even bitten the bullet, bought some trainers and gone for a run. Malcolm's really enjoyed all the attention which hopefully makes up for all the time spent in his carseat.

He's on two or three Hipp / Ella's Kitchen a day sometimes with fruit after and porridge /banana in the mornings and for supper. And we tried Plum pots which are yum yum yum but wow they're pricey and for special occasions only)

Today's the first day I haven't bf him during the day (although he does get bf pretty frequently during the night And no progress with sleeping really. Now he rolls all the way onto his front when he's put down and then can't roll back when he wakes up so shouts.

Sorry your return to work experience not been great strawberry. Is it just the interruptions or more than that?

Alkar about the poo on its way to mouth! Yuk yuk yuk. Although Malc has had some really really disgusting poos which get all over his willy which he reaches for as soon as nappy off. You need so many hands don't you? One to hold feet up, one to take nappy off, one to wipe bottom before poo is smeared all over mat and one to wipe willy! I also need four hands to get him into his high chair due to his clever contortions. I've had help this week but when I'm on my own again think we'll have to just sit on the floor!

Sorry to hear there has been illness and food poisoning around - rotten luck to be ill on your hols Natalie.

Oh BTW. I don't seeem to know about this but if Malc is only getting breast milk in the night time now (averaging three full feeds and a couple of snacks) should I be giving him formula in the daytime to make up for it?

OP posts:
rozzyraspberry · 03/10/2008 20:33

Hi everyone - just a quickie cause I had a crap night last night (ds1 had nightmare then was up ridiculously early, ds2 has a cough and ds3 up for a feed - walking zombie!) and dh is on a night shift tonight so I'm off to watch tv in bed.

Gill - Andrew is only taking 3 full bf during the day (7am, 2pm, 6.30am) and one at night (although 1 side seems to pacify him) so around the same as Malcolm. I think he's probably getting enough milk from you but obviously it's not ideal that he's taking it all at night - you must be exhausted! Is he not interested in bf during the day or are you wanting to stop bf? If so I'd probably introduce a bottle in the day in the hope that he'll want less at night. It's a tricky one though. I remember with ds2 wanting to stop bf but not wanting to have to do nighttime bottles. So I was trying to get him to sleep through before stopping bf but that's sometimes hard when they're waking for comfort. Luckily it went well with ds2, ds3 is another story........ Since dropping one daytime milk feed at the start of the week he's been taking more solids and only getting up once around 3am which is much better. If we just had him it wouldn't be too bad but with the other 2 being pita (and dh sleeping soundly beside me) it's tiring.

Strawberry princess had problems when she had her coil fitted. Her and your experiences with it have put me off a bit.

omy · 04/10/2008 12:33

Just bought some new (2nd hand) toys from the charity shop but she is still preferring the baby wipes packet and the remote control!

Stupidly watched TV last night till late and went to bed at 11.30pm - am paying for it now as I drift off to sleep at the computer! LO is up at 6 for a feed and then sleeps some more till 7.30 - fine if I am in bed by 9.30!

Gill - cheeky Malcolm filling up at night with breast milk! Don't blame him. I would keep giving him a bottle or two in the day just so he stays used to a bottle - and you may even manage to wean him off the night feeds eventually! He is eating loads! Leila only eats 1 ella's kitchen sachet per day (half at lunch and half at dinner) plus 2 full bottles and 2 breastfeeds (both sides) - one at bedtime and one at 6am! (occasionally give in at 4am!)

omy · 04/10/2008 12:48

Strawberry - very impressed with expressing at work! Clever you.

everyone's babies seem to be eating more than mine! Maybe it is because I am so lazy about giving her food (such a mess! etc) maybe it's because she fills up with crumbs from the floor!

Rozzy - my DH has perfected the art of wrapping his pillow around his ears!! If she wakes in the night I try to ignore her and she usually goes back to sleep. Cruel mother! but if I go in it is worse - she wakes properly and cries harder to get a breastfeed.
