July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

Hiya Poledra, I'm thinking about Mirena. Had the coil before and it was fine. Don't like the thought of the implants. Can't have the pill, makes me very sick and a bit psychotic...

DonutMum · 04/09/2008 06:33

Oh yeah, and what is BLW?

sweetkitty · 04/09/2008 07:45

Baby Led Weaning basically instead of doing the whole puree and spoons thing you wait until the baby can pick up bits of food and eat it themselves so you wait until after 6 months and give them bits of things like carrot batons, toast etc they gum on them for a bit them eventually get the idea. Loads on here about it.

sinner burning - pmsl thats what happens when you are typing with baby in arms and not proof reading.

Well we had 11-4.40pm last night then she was up again at 6am she's sleeping just now so will probably have to wake her in a bit

pigleychez · 04/09/2008 09:42

BLW- Took me a while to work it out too
Have to do some eading about that.

Abigail was a human dustbin last night!
Just fed and fed and fed.. slept till 5am then had loads more, then 7 shes wanting more and 9 shes wanting even more!.
What happened to the 3/4 hours between feeds?!

She woken in a grump this morning so thinking of giving baby club a miss this week.
Dont fancy meeting new people whilst worrying about a moody screaming baby!

Libra1975 · 04/09/2008 10:03

A went from 10pm to 3:40am last night does a little dance. Usually it's 3 hours maximum and I really needed the sleep last night. does more of a dance

I had the contraceptive injection for years and it was fabulous would recommend it to anyone.

catec · 04/09/2008 10:13

Bebe - I've got the Avent electric pump. It is a bit more expensive but IMO totally worth it. Last night I expressed 200mL in 15 mins . Took me less time to express both boobs than it did for DP to feed Daisy 100mL. Also, IME allowing baby to comfort suck on boobs causes a lot of cracking and pain which is where a dummy is brilliant. Daisy is also a very sucky baby so I allowed her to comfort suck on me first few days which was not a good call. I also didn't want to give her a dummy but it is a godsend. We plan to wean her at 3/4 months when the sucking reflex starts to go. We don't use it all the time, just when nothing else will sooth or settle her.

We were having lovely sleep ins but Daisy was getting so much sleep during the day that she wasn't going down in the early evening so tried to keep her awake yesterday a bit more (so much easier said than done!) and she slept 6.30 to 9.30! Brilliant to be able to cook and eat dinner without disturbance for once.

isaidno · 04/09/2008 10:26

pigley - that sounds like you are chickening out of babyclub... a change of scenery might work wonders for a grumpy baby.

pigleychez · 04/09/2008 11:24

isaidno- not chickening out, just cant be doing with it today.

Next week def!

Typically Thursday is also clinic day when I get her weighed so am either going to have to alternate what i do each week or try and get to club straight after clinic. ( will prop be easier the old she gets).

Next week is her 6 week check so will weighed on fri anyway leaving me thursday free for baby club.

went to clinic this morning and Abigail weighs 9lbs 9.5 ozs.

Rest of the day now is housework

disneystar · 04/09/2008 11:53

JODIEhadababy · 04/09/2008 12:51

Hi ladies (And Hubarb)

Sounds like our babies are starting to settle abit. Is any one on hungry formula yet? Can;t decide whether to swap or not, to see if he goes a bit longer, or just leave it be.

Just got back from an optomotrist appt with DS1 as he has a lazy eye, and she reckons that he doesn;t use his right eye at all and that he will probably need glasses for the short term anyway.. I'm being really silly but it's really upset me, I know others have bigger problems but I can't help it

disneystar · 04/09/2008 13:44

its not silly to be upset they are our children and it something is wrong we are emotional
i had a lady ask me about samuel yesterday at the school she overheard me talking about him
she couldnt believe im so relaxed at the fact he has heart disease and is profoundly deaf she said omg how do you cope
answer day by day i enjoy every day with him im not going to miss anything i have days when i break down and cry but you have to do that to let it out then think pull yourself together a good cry never hurt no one

im sure glasses will help your ds and it he wont be tiring is good eye out as much
try to make it fun lots of choice and laughing together till you get it right

as for hungry milk i have been thinking of changing samuel but i dont want to upser his tummy when do think the time is right?
what milk are you using

RUMPEL · 04/09/2008 14:01

Hi All,

You chatty bunch

JODIE - Calvin was put on hungry milk at 3 weeks - and he still eats loads - he takes about 9 bottles a day of 6 fluid ounces!!! No wonder he is a porker!! He is 12lb now and 60cm long. What age is your Ds1? At least if he wears glasses now he might not need them when he is older - hugs.

BEBE - I have flat nips too and a had a terrible time feeding DD - ended up giving her formula at 3 weeks and ff and bf for 6 months (until her first tooth came in). I really really was desperate to feed Calvin longer but it was not to be (he is ff now) but the medela electric pump was fab (had a manual with DD) and I used nipples shields with Calvin which were good too. IMO dummies are life savers too DD was an incredibly sucky baby and I was really against dummies but gave her 1 when she about 3 days old and it was AMAZING!! Happy baby = happy Mummy. She still has it now when sleepy/poorly/sore teeth.

MIN912 - Boots sell pure cotton pads or you can get NATURECARE ones in health shops/internet - pads always make me itch so I tend to stick to pure cotton ones. You might have a yeasty thing going on now if the skin is broken - jock itch as Sk says- so you might need to apply canesten cream to the area to clear it up.

Had Gp check yesterday - usually you get a PND questionnaire to complete too? I got more iron tabs, infant gaviscon for Calvin and more anti-ds - I have to stay on 20mg for 3 weeks then see how I feel before she will up them to 30mg - my panic disorder is really bad again now

Took them both to the park today as it is sunny for a change - really waspy though [run away terrified with arms flapping emoticon]!!!

DD started her dance classes on Tuesday too

I am/was a lecturer (taught in secondary schools to) so am I allowed to join the teachers gang?

SK - I have mentioned to you before about lecturing - you should investigate as you might be able to do some community education and evening work so your DH would be home from work for the girls.

I had a look at the weight watchers online - still undecided - I am toying with the idea of living off ready meals for a month to kick start myself - healthy ones of course - I prefer home made but if it would give me a heads up it might be worth it short term?

3 stone to lose and

On a brighter note had the best sleep since ages last night Had Drs in morning, then Calvin had his CS appointment, then we were at Tesco so he was tired and last night he slept from 10.30pm to 4am!!!! OMG wow amazing!!! We only went through 2 bottles last night instead of the usual 4-5!!!

CS therapist has advised me to put him over my knee and allow his head to relax down onto my palm as his neck muscles at the back are really tight - he has been holding his head up since he was born and has really strong neck muscles but she said they were too strong so I need to encourage the fibres to lengthen out a bit as it is causing tension in the occiput (base of the skull).

Well must go laods to do as usual.

MINI - am with you on the house front - really gets me down when the house is a tip (permanent just now) and I only have the 2 DC!!! I love reusable nappies but have not had the chance to use them yet as so much washing with Calvin puking all the time - just cannot get things washed and dry!! get your DC to help you out!

Take care all
xxx

RUMPEL · 04/09/2008 14:04

Mean't to say DONUT - I had never heard of Christopher Brookmyre but googled him and will give hinm a try - always on the look out for new authors - currently on chick lit (no brain required) Freya North and Norah Roberts but adore Terry P and Clive Barker - Ian Rankin is great too.

JODIEhadababy · 04/09/2008 14:38

God Rumple, Calvin is really a feeder! Sam has 6-7 5oz bottles. I think Oliver was on hungry milk by now, and I wonder if giving Sam a bottle of HM at 11 might make him sleep abit longer [fingers crossed emoticon] Disney It was recommended to me with DS1 to 'wean' him onto hungry milk so's not to upset his tummy too much, so 2 days with 1 bottle, 2days with 2 etc until every feed is HM.

DS1 is 2 next week (15th) I can't quite believe my baby is 2, where does time go. Rumple isn't your DD of about he same age? I dread to thnk how I;m going to keep glasses/eye patch on him. Will go out and get some Pirate stuff I think and we can play pretend!

JODIEhadababy · 04/09/2008 14:38

Sorry Rumpel I ALWAYS spell your name wrong

isaidno · 04/09/2008 17:20

Got Poppy weighed today - she is 11lb 2oz at 11 weeks. Lol at Pigley worrying about missing a week at the weighing clinic! I was just the same with my pfb. I only went today for something to do!!

Jodie - I'm sure your ds will get on fine with the specs. He might not need them for too long.

pigleychez · 04/09/2008 18:03

isaidno-
Ive been going every other week but the HV today implied i should be going every week as she commented that i "missed a week". Every 2 weeks is fine by me.

Rumpel- Wow! Calvin really does like his food! Abigail takes between 3/4 ozs at each feed and has about 6 bottles.

sweetkitty · 04/09/2008 18:03

I thought the same thing isaidno B will get weighed at her jabs and thats about it, DD1 we were up there every week as you say for something to do was a nice walk

Pigley - go to the Baby Group meet some new friends, get Abigail weighed once a month

Rumpel - can't imagine lecturing at night I can't stay awake past 9 right now

Guess what I saw someone at the front door today and thought oh maybe my baby gym has turned up but no it was MIL I had forgotten she was visiting it's 2 trains and takes about 2 hours one way so it's a big deal. Luckily the house wasn't too bad

sweetkitty · 04/09/2008 18:04

pigley - x-posts, my HV says the same thing to me "oh theres a clinic here there and everywhere" I just smile at her.

isaidno · 04/09/2008 18:40

I wasn't taking the mick pigley - just reminded me how often I got DS1 weighed

Libra1975 · 04/09/2008 18:54

Gosh I think if my HV had suggested to me that I should be going every week I would have been very , of course part of me wants to go to the clinic each week just to see how much A has grown, however a much larger part of me is too lazy to drag him down every week wait at least 30 minutes to have a 30 second weigh-in which makes him cry as they insist on doing it naked!!! In fact I think I will probably go monthly.

I had that PND test this morning, I was very when the HV questioned that I underlined cried occasionally, yes I have a 7 week old baby and it's my first of COURSE I cry very occasionally, I think I would be more suspicious of people who claimed they never cried with their first. (or maybe they just have more tolerance to tiredness than me!)

DS - I am completely in awe of you coping, I am proud of myself if I manage to do one thing a day!

Jodie - nothing wrong with being upset if there is something wrong with your child and it's great that it's been caught early so it can be corrected.

Rumpel - the frozen weight-watchers ready meals are actually quite nice but they are TINY, so when I was using them I used to add a lot of boiled veg as well to make them "meal" sized.

mummy2bsoon · 04/09/2008 19:42

went a&e regardin bleedin, as i was lyin down, wen i got up, a gush of blood camer out, filled the pad, leaked thru underwear and my trousers....

any1 ever had this? anythign similar?
and the plus side, my iron level went up without me takin any tablets, ssshhh dnt tell ne1 that!

TJuice · 04/09/2008 19:53

hi ladies

well, today i went to baby cinema with a friend and our babies and then on to our regular 3 hour lunch with the women who went to a pregnancy yoga class and their babies. I am babied out!

some days it feels like a kind of cappucino-lifestyle but on a seriously reduced income . . .

i have mixed feelings about these mother groups. i belong to a bunch and i do force myself out most days because i have an idea that in the long, gloomy winter here, i won't want to be at home all the time, getting depressed. it could be a bit isolating being on maternity leave in a foreign country.

I am on my own tonight - dh is on some doctor overnighter in the swedish countryside. was a bit nervy but i am sure it will be fine. i will be knackered though, without my five hours uninterrupted kip in the other room . . . .

re. weighing - i am such a bad first-time mum. i never weigh elodie unless i am at the hospital or the midwife comes (every month). but from my arm ache, i can tell she is getting more and more chunky.

i put new pics on my profile - check out her podgy thighs (just like her mothers )

she is also losing her hair and i am losing a bit of mine too! i guess those hormones have worked their way out of our systems.

re. the mirena coil - do you have to pay for it in the UK? Its going to cost me 120 pounds to get it here! can't believe it. but i may try and get one when i get back next week.

have good nights everyone!

mummy2bsoon · 04/09/2008 19:54

sk-wat gym did u get?

isaidno · 04/09/2008 20:19

tjuice - afaik mirena is free here. Looked at your pics - Elodie is gorgeous Poppy is losing her hair too, mostly round the sides so she has a toupee look going on! I'm hoping it will grow back blonde (like mine) and curly (like dh)

Going to see my friend's 3 week old tomorrow - he is going to seem so teeny.
