July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

we tried at 4 weeks but i wasnt really into it then but now 8 weeks later he says im a rampant rabbit which isnt strictly true just what he would like me to be

mummy2bsoon · 01/09/2008 13:08

have u ever had a tear? how long before it healed, did u get bak to it?

i tore my labial, and its really sore...scared, to get back into relations

JODIEhadababy · 01/09/2008 13:10

We tried at 6 weeks and it was too uncomfortable and sore, so stopped (much to DH' disgust!!) tried again lst night and it was fine (8 weeks) I didn't have a tear though, so I'd imagine that would be abit longer. Do it when you feel comfortable, and make sure your relaxed that first time as if you're tense it will hurt!!!

disneystar · 01/09/2008 13:57

ive never had a tear nor any stitches with any of them
but i agree when you are relaxed and ready your body has been through a major ordeal and the time has to be right for you hun

pigleychez · 01/09/2008 14:54

Glad everyones Bubbas are doing well

With people on wanting to go swimming soon. Abigail has the cutest frilly swimsuit

Disney- how long till baby number 8!!?? Love Sams pictures.. very sweet

I think Aigail is going to be quite tall like her dad. DH is about 6' where I am only 5'3.

Abigail weighed 9lb 1oz 2 weeks ago so prob more now and is 60 cm long and is 5.5 weeks old.

Tjuice- I too have a doze in bed with Abigail.
She usually feeds about 7.30 when DH goes off to work. After that we tend to doze together till about 9 ish.... DH is very jealous.
Plenty of Shush patting here too.

Jodie- 16 weeks till xmas!! that makes it sound so close!!

Past few days have started to get little smiles from abigail soo cute and melts my heart!

Being very brave tomorow!!

DonutMum · 01/09/2008 17:44

Rumpel - throwing a sausage up a close. Just read that one again in the latest Christopher Brookmyre and laughed like a drain. Do you read him?

Anyway, Bahrain is awesome. Hot though. 47degrees most days but will start to cool to about 35-40 by end of September. We have a pool, although had to save DS2 from drowning last week after he flung himself in without armbands. Still makes me shudder and am now paranoid about where the kids are all the time. The best thing about it, though, and this makes me a bit embarassed, is we have a maid - eek! someone doing all my laundry, dishes, cleaning. And she looks after the kids too. They love her. Got a couple of people to meet up with and we live on a ex-pat compound so lots of other families. Need to get into a routine once the boys are at school (they start tomorrow ) and then start getting to know folks. Feels odd making new friends at my age!

Looks like all the wee ones are doing well. Logan is now 5kg/11 lbs and gets his jabs next week. He is sooo awesome. Chats away and laughs. I just love him so much and I think especially cos he'll prob be the last. Can't bear the thought of being fat again - still got 2 stones to lose.

Anyway, best go make the dinner before i faint from starvation.

CilC · 01/09/2008 21:07

Hi everyone - it has been ages...sorry the colic is exghausting. I am keeping really busy during the day - and have taken Rafferty swimming already! My DD starts school very soon so am trying to make the most of our days together. In my wisdom I took her out of nursery and we are having some lovely days together but I do feel tired! But hey that is motherhood... Before I know it she will be at school and I will be missing her and wanting these days back. Rafferty is great as long as we are out! Just the evenings...

I can not believe how quickly time goes especially second time around.

MINNIE1 · 01/09/2008 21:44

Yip DD has it aswell, I use baby oil and brush it through. Then at bath time i was hair and brush hair while she is in the bath. Did the trick with DDs.

ponto · 01/09/2008 21:57

Jodie, is Weight Watchers online any good? I have been to the meetings and lost weight twice before but I can't see me getting to an evening meeting any time soon as Bryony takes ages to settle in the evening. I have 2 stone to lose (at least), started trying to count the weightwatchers points today but I know I am going to lose motivation without a weekly weighing by someone else. Bryony is 6 weeks old today and I have lost 2 stone from delivery but it has not changed in the last 2 weeks and I can't even fit into my 'fat jeans'. I am still wearing maternity trousers, and I still look pregnant in them! Was thinking of maybe giving Slimming world a go as there's a local class during the day, but I'd have to take the 2 younger children. Anyone tried their diet?

isaidno · 01/09/2008 22:18

My sister lost a couple of stone with slimming world. It is based around red days and green days and you can have different food depending on what colour day you choose. Then I think you have a certain amount of sins to spend too. If you are breastfeeding you nay have to check they will let you join. (WW give you extra points to allow for bf.)

I am a weightwatchers girl; I am down to 8 stone 9 now (sorry, not gloating) and it is ww which has seen off my last half stone. I don't do it online or go to meetings - my Mum just passes on her old booklets and magazines to me!

NotAnOtter · 01/09/2008 22:19

omg isaidno! are you b/f ing

JODIEhadababy · 01/09/2008 22:27

ponto It's great, would have been a little confusing if I'd never done it before, but it has it's on little on-line points calculator (you know the sat.fat v's calories one) and it plots weight loss on a graph.. Only done it for 2 days so we shall see. It has it's own little chat room too, so maybe I'll see you there!!

Donut So of having a maid!!! What is it your DH does?

Mummy2bsoon Sam has it too, I've got some special shampoo left over from DS1 that worked a treat, and brushing stimulates the natural oils that get rid of it too. (A brush with really soft bristles though)

Hope everyone else is OK?

TJuice · 01/09/2008 22:54

experienced mums, a question for you.

Elodie has her jabs tomorrow. Do i give her Calpol before or after?

Also,

She has suddenly started to react badly to dh bathing, feeding and settling her in the early evening. I went out for a "run" (read - very slow jog) tonight and came back to her screaming the place down. Very unlike her. When I take her, she calms down immediately but she is unconsolable with him.
What's this all about? How can we fix it (I want us both to be able to settle and feed her).

Sorry to drop in with that.

re. weight loss, i have actually gained a couple of pounds after losing half my pregnancy weight! how annoying. now i am doing something about it . . .jealous of you isaidno! although i would love skeletal at that weight.

re. nookie. we had relations at 5 weeks post birth but then left it until 10 weeks. its hard to find the time and get in the mood, especially if you feel porky. also, milky boobs are weird.

donutmum - bahrain sounds great. would love a maid right now. what are the other expats like?

disney - samuel is sooooo cute!

isaidno · 02/09/2008 07:27

Yes i am still bf; on weightwatchers you get 10 extra points for fully bfing, so I can eat loads. I find the points encourages me to eat more healthily instead of reaching for the biscuit tin!!
After my last 2 pregnancies I expected the weight to just vanish - which didn't happen and I was stuck at just over 9 stone, when I am only 5ft. Before I conceived Poppy I was 8 stone 1, so I would like to lose just 2 more lbs to make me 8 stone 7; then I'll worry about the rest after bf is over.

tjuice - give the calpol after, but only if you need to.

disneystar · 02/09/2008 08:00

ladies a question for thought
i was talking to a lady in tesco yesterday and she has a 9 wk old baby

he is a very hungry ff baby and she was buying farleys rusks to cut a long story short she is going to give her baby 1 spoonful before bed to settle him and possiblily in the morning

i havnt done this at 9 weeks ever but i im asking you opinion on when is the best time to wean

me personaly before ive tried around 3 mths but usually 4 mths i used the hungrier milk rather than wean early but has made me wonder if ive been doing it wrong

so ladies of experience what have you done and how early and is safe to try little bits of solids

CilC · 02/09/2008 08:14

I would love a maid at the moment! At least I have the cleaner for 3 hours a week. She is wonderful and I get so excited after she has left and everything sparkles and smells clean...sad I know!

TJuice I gwas told to give DD calpol after her first jab but found she did not really need it. She sailed through her jabs..but her little friend was not like that. I think every child is different. I suspect Rafferty will be the latter!

My DD also went through a phase where she rejected my DH. From about 3 - 6 months I think...I was her favourite for such a long time and then at about 18 months she swapped over and became Daddy's girl!(still is....)
As she would not even take a bottle it was hard especially around the 6 month mark - I sooo needed to get out but she was quite distressed when I left her and on top of that DH could not help her with milk... It got better and then at around 15 months they go through an ultral clingy phase.

I think the last time I weighed 8 stone I was 15! Would also be interested in hearing how the online weight watches programme works. I have put on a stone since giving birth!!! I put all my weight on after giving birth last time also...Bf makes me sooo hungry and I eat biscuits and too much chocolate.

Raff slept through from 11 to 6am last night - amazing. Funny thing is that this extra sleep has made me feel soooo tired this morning I can hardly function. So need an expresso!

disney - what an awesome job you have done! You must have so much patience. I was exhausted just having Raff. I think 2 will do me... Amazing about so few girls. Raff is the only boy amongst all of his cousins. My hubby has four siblings and they have all had girls! DH's mum keeps saying Raff is the only one who will continue the family surname...if he chooses to of course!

I did signing with DD and highly recommend it. She could tell me when she wanted milk and was tired way before she could talk. I am sure it helped avoid some tantrums.

Better go and get breakfast! And a cup of tea or 2!!!! Soooo wish the rain would go away....

CilC · 02/09/2008 08:20

disney I weaned DD at 5 months. As I have allergies and Rafferty has colic have been advised to hold off weaning for as long as I can. So will aim for this again. In France I came across a milk for babies with added fibre (like a husk). Not sure I would do it at 9 weeks though... seems very early. My understanding is that their digestive gut is not ready until about 4 months...but then in this baby business I have found no two babes the same!!!

disneystar · 02/09/2008 08:25

tjuice i dont know what to suggest really as i look after samuel really all the time
all i know is if my dh was to do the bath bedtime regime he wouldnt do it my way
maybe you LO likes the way you do things and it was a kinda mummy does it my way
or was it a isolated incident maye she was having an off day like we all do
babies are funny little things just when you think youve got it sussed they go and change things

disneystar · 02/09/2008 08:34

cilc yes i have patience lots of it
i was a teacher for many years so i follow things through at home iis inbuilt i guess
like im quite structured if we go out for the day i give them a quiz after
at tesco they all have there own list it takes ages but works
they have pc time and quiet time snack time
sounds very regimental when i write it down but it really works
after saying this not sure if its patience i have or routine maybe a bit of both

isaidno · 02/09/2008 09:01

Before age of 4 months babies cannot digest properly anything but milk. Current advice is to wait until 6 months. I am aiming to do blw, so plan to exclusively bf until the 26 week mark.

disney - you sound like a lovely mum; I think if you had no patience or routine you would have gone completely mad by now!!

tjuice - I think disney is right; elodie prefers your way. I would persevere with your dh doing bath etc, if it isn't too harrowing for you or her! I am guilty of always taking over because dh is doing things differently.
