July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

Morning all !!

I think I am going to go completely mad!!!!

No matter what I do at the moment I can't seem to get anything done.....it feels like ground hog day every day The ironing is taking over the utility room and the kitchen seems to be permanently untidy as for dd1's room OMG..............ARGH!!!!! I hate it because I am usually so on top of things....it's worse because I'm supposed to emptying the kitchen units before our new Rayburn and kitchen gets put in and I can't seem to get through all the every day chores......feeling very weepy!!!

minipink - have you looked at www.flylady.net ? She has some good advice, such as it didn't get messy in a day and it takes time to get it ok. She suggests just doing a chore for 15 minutes at a time, which I find very helpful.

Have a hug in the meantime xxx

disneystar · 02/09/2008 10:07

minipink stop take a breath and do whats needs to be done urgently or first
as for bedrooms well they can help what i do is give a reward or small prize for whoever does the most the quickest always works (special pack of something in the cupboard reserved for a treat perhaps)
bedrooms are not urgent either here if they do there own rooms i have 2 sharing 1 room only got 5 bedrooms,i reward them if i have to do it they get a big fat 0
ironing here gets me down to i used to have cleaner who did it but now its me had to make huge cutbacks,i know what you mean just when you have a bit of time maybe to sit have a cup of tea something needs doing
it doesnt stop does it
if i were closer hun id come and help you
dont stress about housework its not going no where is it try and take it a bit easy
bet your looking forward to your new kitchen

Libra1975 · 02/09/2008 10:55

Ohh it's been a while! Hello to everyone. I have read all posts but can't catch up with them all so just using last 2 pages!

donutmum - if you like brookmyre have you tried Carl Hiasen? Similar humour but american. V. jealous of your kids in Bahrain, I had an expat upbringing and adored it. apparently that's why I'm so messy because I used to have someone to pick up after me.

ponto - same predicament as you, 2 stone to lose and still in maternity jeans (they are so damn comfy) I have a wedding to go to in Dec and that's my date for getting back to pre-baby weight as I want to look fabulous. Weightwatchers is very good, do you have a goal date to aim for?

DS - this is my first baby but whilst I am not as militant as some about weaning before 6 months I think it would be better to wait until at least 4 months. P.S photos of samuel are adorable

TJuice - I would just let your DH perserve, if you do take E back when she is making a fuss with your DH then in a way you are undermining his position (please don't take this the wrong way I mean undermine in the sense that E won't get used to him). So let E continue to make a fuss with your DH and let him deal with it. E will soon get used to him.

mini - as Ds said take a big breath. Ironing is not an essential task, just this once can you just fold the clothes and put them away? If your DD1 is happy in an untidy room then just leave it, if she's unhappy then tell her to tidy it herself (presuming she is old enough).

As for nookie, we tried (well I became desperate and jumped him) at 5 weeks but then I had had a c/s so down there was still pristine. We are already talking about our next one and think we will start to try again next summer.
Alex has been grumpy the last few days which is quite out of character but think it maybe because he is going thru a growth spurt.

JODIEhadababy · 02/09/2008 13:58

Morning all.

Weaning - (I can't quite believe we're discussin this already, but it will be upon is soon enough!) I started quite early with DS1 (17weeks, but please don't spread it around, I fear for my safety on MN) BUT he was soo hungry all the time and waking up 3-4 times in the night and started being interested in food and watching up eat and trying to 'swipe' at our yogurts/bags of crisps etc, so HV advised baby rice. (He was already on Hungry Baby Milk) I think I'm gonna take my cues from Sam again this time, he's no where near as big or demanding of food as Oliver was (So far!) God I;m dreading all that pureeing again, so time consuming (only to be spat at you half the time!!! )

It's taken me agaes to write this post, I think I've swapped my fingers for Cod's!

sweetkitty · 02/09/2008 14:04

Wow laods of messages I tend to read more than I type these days

Re: weaning, DD1 was about 24 weeks DD2 26 weeks so will be going to 26 weeks again, just plan to BF more to ride out the growth spurts. I kind of fell into BLW with DD1 (she refused a spoon) and did it again with DD2. I did all the Annabel Karmel puree/ice cubes malarky with DD1 (as you do PFB) DD2 got whatever I was eating, DD2 had amazing dexterity at 8 months probably due to the BLW, she used to sit and eat peas and sweetcorn one by one. Oh DD2 did get food early I found a raisin in her nappy at about 3 months culprit DD1

Weight - well I know I was back in normal clothes at a week and back to prepreg weight at 3 weeks but I am so unfit and flabby, I have my 6 week post natal check in half an hour that will be fun am so not getting examined though.

isaidno - I know I must be utterly insane to consider another one I think I have had some sort of memory loss, it's a case of once the baby is here you kind of forget all the pain and misery of pregnancy (a bit) and they are just so cute too.

minipink - I know what you mean re housework this house is never tidy, I have started cleaning my carpets though now I don't have SPD anymore, am doing them bit by bit. I was so ready to burst into tears yesterday when DP came home.

oh who asked about cradle cap - is it Dentinox shampoo that's good for it? It's in supermarkets anyway, smells really prefumey but works.

Right must dash!

pigleychez · 02/09/2008 14:47

Hi all,

Donut- A maid! I wish! When i told DH his response was "shall we move??"

Tjuice- Agree with everyone about perserving with DH and E.. Dont want her to be totally reliant on you to settle.

Disney- no personal experience but i would of said 9 weeks was abit early.
Im a Nursery teacher so also intend to do lots of activities with Abiagil.

Minipink- Sorry things are getting on top of you Like others have said just do the essentials. I have a list of jobs as long as your arm! Im slowly working my way through them and find crossing them off very rewarding- Like ive achieved something.

Was extremerly shocked this morning to find Abiagil had slept through all night! Woke at 6.30 as Abigail had started to snuffle as she does when she starts getting hungry. I presumed that DH had fed her during the night and he presumed i had so we were both shocked when we realised she had gone 11 to 6.30..Now she just needs to do that everynight

Met up with the ladies i have met via the netmums website had a coffee and a chat as the weather was so pants. Got absoluelty soaked going back to the car, then could find my car keys so was driping wet standing at the car tipping my bag out!!

CilC · 02/09/2008 15:17

LOL disney I am soooo the same! Definitely a teacher thing! I have not been one for quite a number of years...but once a teacher, always a teacher I think!

minipinkscottish · 02/09/2008 15:24

Thanks all for advice xxx I will try and chill out a bit

Disney and Clic did I know you were both teachers? If I did I'd forgotten.......me too so it must be a teacher thing

OP posts:
mummy2bsoon · 02/09/2008 15:30

me three, another teacher here!
lol

Umlellala · 02/09/2008 15:36

agh just got back from 6 week appointment to be told, they don't do it at 6 weeks and rescheduled for 8 weeks

I am a teacher too (drama, secondary/pru)!

(i do lurkon the thread but find it hard to keep up)

sweetkitty · 02/09/2008 16:12

6 week check complete waste of time, lovely female pregnancy GP but went in there with the 3 DDs, how are you feeling - fine, how's feeding going - fine, examined my tummy womb fine (MW told me this at 10 days PN), contraception - erm have you seen the 3 children I have brought in? erm fine we will use condoms if we ever get round to it, smear due next year and that was about it. Oh she did give me some cream for my erm pile problem.

I'm not a teacher but did think about going back and doing my PGDE in Primary Teaching but have given up that idea as a) apaprently theres 60 new teachers to one job in Scotland and b) with the 3 girls it would be too difficult I don't know what I will do career wise going forwward try not to think about it.

mummy2bsoon · 02/09/2008 16:27

pru-Ur brave!!!

social science. mainly geography/history

disneystar · 02/09/2008 17:14

sweetkitty my dh not a happy man i had 2 letters this morning from Lothian and Borders police 2 impending prosecutions from 2 diff speeding cameras in my dh company 6 drivers got caught on camera in 1 month
he was dong 42 mph in a 40 zone
thats 6 pts on his lisence omg hes annoyed
hes now refused to do scotland
hes had an unblemished record for 14 years
hes got to be more careful now but really 2mph over

DonutMum · 02/09/2008 17:27

OOh disney, 42 in a 40 mph and points - that's a bit harsh. That's the polis for you.
Oh, and I think 9 weeks is waaaaay too young - am going to pout Logan on hungry baby aptimil when the current lot runs out. He's a bloody gannet.

TJuice, I gave calpol before the jabs - just before leaving the house. And then waited to see if they needed more. Neither DSs reacted badly at all so was lucky. Fingers crossed Logan will be the same - jabs on the 11th.

Re the teaching thing. Is one of the things am thinking about when we get back and am looking into being a teaching assistant out here as and when i have the time/if we stay long enough. But what i really really want is to train as a midwife. Takes three years (or 18 months for nurses)so we'll need to have the mortgage paid off. I'll just have to crack the whip on DH to earn lots of pennies. Can't remember who asked but he's head of HR for a bank here. I am/was in HR too - just finished up at Barclays for my mat leave. Still keeping my right to return next summer in case things don't work out here though. But fingers crossed that won't happen.

Anyway, this has turned into a right ramble. Good to see everyone is doing well - mostly!

JacobsPrincess · 02/09/2008 17:35

I'm a teacher too! Did we all plan July babies in readiness for the summer hols?!!

disneystar · 02/09/2008 17:50

donut he was driving a HGV i guess there stricter with them
i also feel awfull it was the day we were arguing on the phone literally about the fact his job took him away so much
he was talking to me when driving (on ear piece)and just went over so il get the blame for his now

sweetkitty · 02/09/2008 21:15

disney - thats harsh I thought they gave you 3mph each way as the speedos on cars can be wrong suppose its the same with HGVs I mean unless the speedos are caibrated regularly how do they know they are correct I mean it could say you are doing 30mph when it's really 35mph. Anyway I digress Scotland is fab but the rain argh!

Donutmum - I would love to be a midwife as well but as you say it's 3 hard years. I don't think it would be fair on my DDs as it would mean me working shifts (whilst on placements) and also all the studying would mean less time for them. Also we have no family that help out and DP is out the house 6.30am to 6pm, I just don't see how I could do it

B very unsettled tonight have fed her both sides so it's not food but she's wants carried and walked not just held, DP taken her to give me a break just now. Been trying a dummy again too.

MINNIE1 · 02/09/2008 21:30

Disney
42 in a 40 MZ thats a joke. Should be more interested in catching real road offences like drink driving...
Re: Weaning, 4 to 6 months with DD1 and DD2. 9 wks i think, is to young. Now funny enough it was suggested to me a few days ago, to get L to sleep through the night. Putting some liga in her bottle, i dont think so!!

Tjuice
I gave DD1 & 2 calpol after shots.
When we had DD1 she would only ever settle for me.But at 4 months DP and I could do it. By 6 months she turned intoo daddys girl and still is..

Pigley
Hate when the bag eats the car keys esp when its raining...

All well here, Leah had another bad nappy today green with some yellow poo. 6 wk check this wk so will get it checked/

Libra1975 · 02/09/2008 21:52

Ds - that is very harsh on your DH, as has been said I thought they gave you 10% but maybe it's just an urban myth.

SK - that was exactly the same as I got at the GP, it took 30 seconds and could have been done over the phone fgs.

Aghhh, I have just bought tickets for this:
www.seetickets.com/alw/price.asp?code=323095&filler1=see&filler2=multisee&filler3=
My sis and 2 best friends are going with me, will be my first evening out proper (i.e. without A and with booze) since A was born. Both excited and nervous (and hoping I can express enough for 6 hours!)

pigleychez · 02/09/2008 22:12

Disney - I too thought it was 10%.. Do a Google search and see what it springs up.

Libra- Thats looks like fun

I have my 6 week check tomorow.. not expecting too much going by what ive heard/read lately.

Umlellala · 03/09/2008 05:20

Gosh, that's harsh Disney. My dh got 3 @(yes 3!) fines in one day month ago. He's been driving two years, nothing. Then £180 in one day -ouch! All down to being tired/slightly hungover...

My 8 week check is 20mins for me, then 20mins for baby, then injections! Have no idea what they are gonna do with all that time. IME they just ask 'are you ok' and then say right, good. So can't imagine it will take 20mins. Maybe we will read the papers, have a coffee.. that'd be nice.

As you can see from time (5am) we are def NOT sleeping through. We all co-sleep (dd, dh, me, ds) so if ds has an awake bit (which he seems to around this time, then we come downstairs and he chills in his bouncer til he is sleepy again (otherwise he is v noisy). It's quite nice really, a bit of 'me-time'! Got the Amby nest -baby hammock thing- in a box ready and waiting. Can't wait to try it...

Re weaning - dd was 5half months and BLW. very easy IMO. Just pretty much fed her what we had after with maybe a month or so of extra vegetables... we cook without salt now (surprisingly fine!) so we don't worry if she has some salty processed/foods when out. And she hardly had any teeth til she was one either.

Disney - am liking your routine. I am having to be a lot more organised with two. This is my first week with two of them and no dh (he is a teacher too) - but so far, going well. I know this seems like nothing to you - but seemed very daunting. Think this is why ds seems harder than dd was - we just went with the flow with her, but ds has to fit in with our lives more...

PS mummy2bsoon (you need to change your name!), I taught in a PRU in Hackney, NOrth/east london so double scary ... but not really. Kids are kids.

Think ds might be ready to go back to bed. Will try to catch up tomorrow at 5!

isaidno · 03/09/2008 09:25

I hope you have a big bed umlellala! Poppy is mostly co sleeping with us at the mo, and if one of the ds gets in too it's very cosy!

Today is the last day of school holidays here. It's a nice sunny day so I think we will go out somewhere - when I've turfed dh out of bed.

Poppy is 11 weeks today and has gone really dribbly. Anyone else's baby doing this? Will have to buy some bibs, which I hate because they cover up the cute clothes.
