July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

1000 replies

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice folks - posted a feeding thread too, and got lots of help. A hot bath and some massage got rid of it - looks like it's been a combination of blocked duct and poor latch, so blood has pooled behind the blockage. I'll be more careful how she's latched when we're lying down in bed and I'm reading a novel at the same time in future
I looove MN, it's so easy to get help exactly when you need it.

isaidno · 31/08/2008 11:06

poledra - glad you found an answer!
disney - at all your nookie! No wonder you have 7 kids!!

re; milestones - smiling, rolling over etc. We have to remember all our babies are different and they will do stuff at their own pace - it's not a competition for who can have the smiliest most advanced baby!!

disneystar · 31/08/2008 12:25

i guess im a bit of a worrier with sam as he has so many probs but its true they develop at different times
they said sam wont sit or hold his head up an i read all these smiley babies on here and just panicked a bit i guess

RUMPEL · 31/08/2008 14:04

Hi All,

Good to hear all the bubbas are doing so well.

DISNEYSTAR - you must be really good at doing your PF exercises if you still both enjoy nookie after 7 births!!! (They have a saying in Scotland that 'it's like throwing a sausage up a close' when a woman's bits become slack due to overusage!! How is your DD - she must be due soon? How are all your boys (have you any other DDs or just the 1?) Is your wee boys croup gone now?

Calvin has finally - thank the Good Lord - setteld down - whoopee!! Although I was up every 1.5 to 2 hours last night (DD has the cold and think he may be getting it) he did actually sleep for 3 and 3/4 hours the toher night - amazing!! He is much happier in himself and smiling now too. I got some timidine cream form Dr as his nappy rash was horrific and that has cleared his bum up quickly.

He had anopther CS treatment on Wed and was quite gurny Wed and Thurs but settled now. he ia right Mummy's boy though and hates to be left alone - sling being used afir bit here too.

Is anyone else really sweaty and roasting now? I know it a combination of the hormones settling and my anxiety but it's horrid - escpecially with ababy stuck to you!!

RE DUMMIES - I was always totally against them until I had DD - she came out sucking her fingers and she loved her DT - I gave her 1 after 3 torturous days and it has been great for her teething too. i need to take it off her soon but she likes it when she is teething (still 3 to come in) and when she is feeling sorry for herself. Recent research has shown that it van reduce cot death by up to 50% if you give bubba dummie when they go to sleep. Calvin wouldn't take 1 at first but after 4 different types I have found 1 he likes - IMO they are a saving grace!

No nookie here although DH said he was getting horny again now - I jsut feel so utterly minging and unattractive just now - so fat!! It gives me the boak!

KAZ - what is your status re your flat at the mo'? Hope you had a good birthday yesterday too.

HUBARB - I am seeing Gp Wed about reflux as Calvin is sick all the time too - tell Mrs HUBARB we said hi and did she like her trinket?

Hope everyone else is ok - too many to mention individually.

How about you all give us an update on bubbas - weights, lengths and ages now - see how they are coming along?

disneystar · 31/08/2008 15:10

rumpel my daughter is due in november and shes having a girl first baby girl in the entire family in 22 years

as for me doing my PF ive always done them TBH im just as i was prior to my 7 births or so he says

sweetkitty · 31/08/2008 16:00

disney - first girl in 22 years wow, it's strange how gender goes in families, in both DP and my family it's all girls very few boys, I think if we had 7 I would have 7 girls, so (forgive me I forget) you have 22yoDD and Sam DS? so who's inbetween? Are you a Gran already I cannot remember. I think it's fab that Sam and your grandaughter will be practically the same age.

Rumpel - love the sausage up the close and giving you the boak you may have to explain them though Do glad Calvin seems to be settling down B is still quite unsettled from about 7-10pm but then settles in bed and goes to 3-4am then to 7ish so not too bad. I think it's the weather too but I'm so hot and sticky now as well, won't be that in a month when it's freezing.

Couldn't tell you what B weighs or her length (might measure her) will get her weight done at 8 week first jabs but reckon she's well past 11lbs odds, I think she is dainty though definitely a wee girl. Woke up last night and she had pushed me across the bed you should have seen the amount of space I had between her and DP.

disneystar · 31/08/2008 16:46

min912 · 31/08/2008 18:18

So P slept for 6hrs straight both last night and the night before... hurrah! I have therefore concluded that my/her feeding technique can't be that bad and although I have changed how I support her body I really can't be arsed to faff about taking her on and off until she gapes properly. Plenty of wet and poopy nappies and I'm not sore (unless she keeps sucking for ages after she's fallen asleep, then I can get a bit chafed, but the feeling goes quite quickly) so that will do!

She is just over 4 weeks and just under 10lb. We met a friend for lunch today and one of the waitresses said 'what a small baby, she must just be a few days old' she really doesn't look small!

sweetkitty · 31/08/2008 18:51

Thanks disney I always get you, minipink and notanotter mixed up as you all have so many children loads of boys, you must do the boy thing really well, Samuel will be well looked after growing up with all those big brothers.

What a lovely surprise too B was planned to the n-th degree, after my mc last year I wanted to be pregnant again asap was using OPKs charting the works kind if takes the shine off it a bit.

Just finishing bathing the girls and DP was undressing B and she was giving him the big smiles and he said "oh SK it's a shame this is our last wee baby and it's all your fault as you don't want to go through labour again" I said "no this house is bursting at the seams as it is we can't have 4" after the horrible SPD pregnancy I was adamant B would be our last but now ................

sweetkitty · 31/08/2008 18:52

min - sorry I think you are doing just fine too, I bet Poppy isn't small it's just people are always about little newborns are.

SmokingBridesmaids · 31/08/2008 20:00

SmokingBridesmaids · 31/08/2008 20:01

Mummywannabe · 31/08/2008 20:43

Hi all. Sorry been missing in action for so ling. think i was a little depressed but feel much more like me again now.

Max doing really well, gaining about 10-12 ounces a week! Settled down to a nice evening routine, bath at 7, bottle, goes down awake and sometimes i have to go up to him a few times (to put his dummy back in - the same dummy i was so against!) and then sleeps till 3am(ish) feeds then back to sleep to 6.30/7am. He is 7 weeks now - where does the time go?

Hope your all ok? Thinking ahead, whats the earliest you can take them swimming?

JODIEhadababy · 31/08/2008 21:19

Hi all.

Mummywannabe Hope you are feeling better now that you are haveing more sleep!!! As for swimming I know girls who've taken their babies at 5 weeks, but personally I like to wait until they've had at least their first lot of jabs, but that's just me, just remember that Max's body will adjust to the temperature around him, so after a while his lips might start to turn blue! Your cue to get out (Usually about 20 mins)

Update on Sam - 8 weeks, 10lbs 5oz and 58cms long.

Am today as Sam has out grown alot of his babygrows and I've had to put them away. I know it was bound to happen but still....
I'm with you SK I REALLY Don't want to be pregnant again, but finding it hard to imagine NOT having another, much to DH's horror!!!!

isaidno · 31/08/2008 21:25

SK - I can't believe you are contemplating another pregnancy after all that moaning and complaining you did through the last one

Rumpel - glad to hear Calvin is responding to his treatment and is sleeping a little bit more.

Notanotter - you have too many names!!!

Mummywannabe - welcome back - I think the first 6 weeks are the hardest, then the mists begin to clear and you start to feel more normal. You can take them swimming as soon as you like; no need to wait until after vaccinations.

Poppy is getting into a little routine now, although I spoil her by using the sling alot to get her to sleep! Tbh with the 2 ds I don't have the time or energy to make life harder for myself by insisting she settles herself. We just go with the flow... She does settle sometimes if she's in the right mood.

Donutmum - meant to say earlier, glad you got to Bahrain safely; hope everyone settles in well.

NotAnOtter · 31/08/2008 21:29

i know isaidno but this is my long time moniker

MINNIE1 · 31/08/2008 22:07

Hi all,
In bed with Leah, she is asleep and hoping she will go till bout 3.. She is staying awake more in the day which is great.

Sweetkitty
Never say never its the pregnancy part that i really am afraid of!! Just dont think i could go through it again. Plus no space left in this house, girls do have alot of bits..

Disney,
Leah had that green poo aswell today, she was like a bag of cats yesterday..

DD1 starting montessori in the morning... and a break for me.

Poledra · 31/08/2008 22:55

Hi All

Have just put Orlaith down and was hoping to get some time to myself but can hear her chuntering already!

Disney am and a bit about you and DH being back in the saddle so quickly - I just can't find the time or the energy! Sounds like Sam is doing really well, and going to be tall. Both dd1 and dd2 are above average on height (DH is 6'2 and I am 5'10, so I guess it's not that much of a surprise) but I don't know what length Orlaith is - they don't measure length here until later on as they say it's too difficult when the babies are still all curled up like kidney beans! Orlaith is 6 weeks now, and weighed 10lb 4oz last Wed.

Donutmum, glad the move went well - keep us posted!

Sweetkitty, that's more than once now I've seen you suggest that B might not be the last after all . I'm just jealous, I'm feeling quite sad that Orlaith is our last but have vowed to start selling maternity clothes etc on ebay to remove temptation to have a fourth.

Rumpel - it that the wet boak or the dry boak?

Mummywannabee I've always been told you can take the baby swimming as soon as you like but that you should really wait until after your 6 week check. Would second what Jodie said, that 20 minutes is enough for them.

Boob has healed up fine now, the duct must have been blocked as that side has just run with milk all last night and today. Orlaith was choking on the flow when she fed this morning, and it hasn't been like that for a little while.

Right, O has settled herself down again. Anyone want to come and be sad with me while I put the last of the nametapes onto dd1's school uniform? My PFB starts school on Tues - I cannot believe she's old enough, and moving away from me into her own world already

disneystar · 01/09/2008 08:26

poledra you both are tall but no idea where my 16 yr old height came from as im 4ft 11 imagine what that looks like when i say no you are grounded mister till you do your room he just laughs at me but does it anyway

disneystar · 01/09/2008 08:34

sweetkitty sorry i missed your question yes i am a nanny too i have 1 who will be 3 on oct then the new baby girl in november and i cant wait he is just so sweet i get some strange looks when im out though as one is shouting nanny then the other mummy
i have to say this is my daughters baby they always asume my daughter is abour 15 people are always suprised when i say no shes 22 then they know im old i get told by everyone i look around 32 when im 41 soon
im a kinda hippy earth mother type very down to earth and think of nothing singing wheels on the bus in public or round tesco with dc of course
if anyone remembers it i get twinned with the lady in the good life 70,s show felicity kendall as im like her character
there you are a complete guide to my existence how boring is that

TJuice · 01/09/2008 09:15

disney - you do look much younger than your age.

i suddenly feel really old. my body feels knackered - joints ache and my shoulders and back are constantly knotted. I really miss the weekly massages at my work.

Well, miss E is having morning kip and should be showering, hoovering etc etc.

and here i am, on the internet.

Still no signs of sleeping through yet. She sleeps between 7 and 10.30, wakes up between 3 and 4, then again at 6am. Then we snooze until 08.30 in the bed. Bad habits, I'm sure.

Settling her seems to be harder now than before, I find myself sitting next to the cot, shush-patting her for ages (hence the knotted shoulders).

She has her jabs tomorrow! Time flies . . .

disneystar · 01/09/2008 10:23

awww tjuice isnt ia draining job being a mom
shush patting thats your shoulders explained
have you had your appt for her yet sorry i know you had one but cant remember when

i have a new pic of samuel on my profile is anyone wants to have a look
i think hes soooo beautifull but extremely hard work

JODIEhadababy · 01/09/2008 10:30

Disney He's so cute, all that lovely hair and those big eyes, he looks so big now, but I bet all of our babies do compared to the new born pics!

Donut Forgot to say hello the other day, glad you got to Bahrain nice and safe.

I'm happy today as we gained control of our 'relations' last night and it wasn't uncomfortable or sore (was so nice we did it again this morning after DS1 had gone to nursery) Things are starting to get back to normal (I even went out with some friends for a drink on Friday and had a hangover on Saturday, that wasn't pleasant!)

I also signed up for Weight watchers Online last night, has worked for me in the past and I want to lose at least 1 stone by christmas (16 weeks to go) So no more 'eating for 2!' Back to counting points for me!

MINNIE1 · 01/09/2008 11:33

Disney
Sam is co cute, Its looking at them at this stage that makes me all broody.... Seen a new born 3 day old this morning and OMG so adorable...
