Morning everyone. Wow, Chuffed, you did so well to get to 10 months Fimblesfan - I'm in Kent. It's lovely and sunny here so might have to take ds for a walk later.

Lovely and sunny in Bedford too - working till 12.30 and picking ds up at 1. will take dog and ds for nice walk.
ds is now walking across the room - although looks like a little frankenstein with his arms above his head and jerky walking movements.
When do most people get shoes for their babies (will start another thread on this I think)

Chuffed - 10 months of breastfeeding is just excellent. (I only managed 5 months and that was for my 2nd!)

Hello and welcome Fimblefans.

Just wanted an update really - how many of you still have babies that wake in the night? Ds wakes once for a bottle and then mercifully tends to settle back down to sleep okay. Still, naturally I would rather he slept through.

Also, just how long does it take you to clean up after your baby's meal? I know babies are messy but I don't recall dd being quite as bad as ds. Despite bibbing him up, he usually needs a complete change of clothes after food, and food gets smeared into his hair and caked all over. The floor usually needs a good sweep followed by spot cleaning with a mop. I estimate the clean up operation (including change of clothes) takes about 20 minutes....perhaps longer. It is so wearing.

Also - final question....how does your baby cope with the car. Despite now being in a stage 2 front facing car seats ds spends most of his time screaming in rage and frustration.

(Sounds like I'm moaning about him doesn't it? I love him to bits really!)

Ds doesn't get too dirty when eating - though I usually only give him eggy bread or sandwiches - gets proper food at nursery. plus having a dog saves on hoovers/mops!
ds still wakes maybe 30% of the time in the night - but still give him a dream feed at 10.30 so maybe that helps him through.
ds is fine in the car - though he has started resisitng getting strapped in - i tend to give him some spare keys to play with.

dd gets pretty grubby when eating but it varies as to what she is eating and how tired she is as to whether it goes all through the hair. Definately needs a good floor clean. I'm almost ready to put on her little painting smock we got given for Christmas - it is a little plastic one and will be great for messy feeding I feel.

dd is pretty much an all night sleeper, very rarely wakes up.

HMC - no car so no input on the carseat I'm afraid.

Guess what - just had a call from Day Nursery. Ds has fluid leaking from his ear and "is not himself". Sounds like an ear infection....

Should I just hang myself now!

Chuffed · 07/02/2005 12:24

oh HMC what a run of bad luck you've had.

I just had a call from nursery too saying dd has a temperature and could they give her calpol?

Hopefully it isn't anything serious with your ds!

TracyK · 07/02/2005 12:25

oh bugger - i hope it isn't another phase of colds/illnesses - i thought it was all over as spring was nearly here.
hugs to you both.

DS still wakes at least once between 6.30pm and 7am. He is still being bf and DH blames the waking on that! DS has only twice slept through and both times were when Dh was away! What does that say!

Don't worry too much guys. I've left him at Day Nursery (bad mother, bad mother!). Have looked it up on internet and treatment is conservative (calpol and other pain relief)...antibiotics not of proven value. Also if his ear drum has perforated already it won't be hurting him all that much as it has relieved the pressure. I know 'cause I've had ear infections myself in the past.

Dolbear - I thought hen nights were for hell raising and staying up crazy hours doing mad things, not catching up on your shut eye (lol!)

hmc , yeah I know its a sad state of affairs , we did go out for a meal and for a few drinks 1st , then 8 hrs sleep , pure bliss , shame i had to drive 3 hrs to get it

called nursery about an 1 1/2 hrs after they administered the calpol and apparently she seemed fine so it was probably teeth like I thought it might be.
Anyone have any advice for accomodation in Amsterdam? I've put a post on the travel section but no replies yet...we need to book or we'll miss out.

Evening! Ds spectacularly threw up all over himself, the highchair, me, the kitchen at dinner time. He's shaking his head again so I hope it's not another ear infection. Have you seen that someone on the May thread is pregnant?! Sorry Chuffed never been to Amsterdam but would love to go. Hope someone helpful comes along

When are you getting married dolbear?? I didn't realise - congratulations.

HMC - how is you lo today??

Fimblesfan - I'm on the other side of Croydon - in Purley. There's a few mumsnetters about from around these parts.

Chuffed - sorry can't help you on the accomodation front. Its been years since I went to Amsterdam and when we did we stayed in an awful B&B.

Feeling v tired today as ds was up loads during the night. He's got a very bad cold/flu and has been running a high temp since the weekend. Hopefully the antibiotics he had last night will kick in soon.

Big cuddles to the little ones feeling poorly (Lucyjones junior and Metrobaby junior)....

Baby ds is actually fit as a butcher's dog despite his ear infection. I think it's because the ear drum perforated (gunk has come out) and this relieves the pressure. Doc has given him some antiobiotics but you really can't tell there is anything wrong with him

Sorry Chuffed - despite having been to Amsterdam a couple of times I can't for the life of me remember where I stayed (must have been a good weekend!)....

Somebody on the May thread is pregnant???? - cripes! I will pop in now to find out who and give my congrats I think....

Blooming heck pg already - still get it all over and done with I spose.
I'd love another - ds is growing up so fast it'd be lovely to have another little baby - but too old now - should have started earlier.

A big hello to everyone new popping on the thread

And hope all the poorly lo's are feeling better too.

Nothing exciting happening here, ds is being a fusspot with his food as usual, have to coat all his lumpy veg in yogurt or fruit to get him to eat it! Still loves all breakfast foods though.

MrsD - thank you so much for the nappy lady contact. She's been great, got my trial order a while ago, and while I've got quite a few second hand nappies I'm making do with atm, I want to eventually have all new and I'm still trying to pick between bumbles and totsbots for my main order from her!

I always wondered how you chose your mumsnet name, Dolbear!

like the others I only recall unsuitable-for-children accomodation in amsterdam. nice city though.

HMC - dd3 actually often wakes once in the night this last month. after sleeping through since about a month. all the teething, colds, sniffles seem to have disrupted her. we booted her out of our bedroom yesterday into her own room where she yells but I am ignoring her meanly.

dp is off this afternoon for an appointment about the snip - no more baby fennels, I sincerely hope

Report
Fennel · 08/02/2005 15:55

sorry bits of that post were not very clear. dd3 was sharing a room with us til yesterday, but now is in her own room, only about 6 months after all the other april babies I expect, but I like co-sleeping (til they wake me too much...)
