PillockOfTheCommunity · 02/07/2008 20:53

AngeG · 02/07/2008 21:09

Hello GM

Hope everyone else ok. xx

PillockOfTheCommunity · 02/07/2008 21:43

have Pisha on the phone, she's attempting to be enough of a computer geek to set up her wireless router without buggering up the phone line - but she's failing miserably

(s'ok, have told her she makes a crap geek and should go back to being a pisshead mum instead )

oooggs · 03/07/2008 08:18

ellie - your hair is fantastic

dooby - belated Happy Birthday

sol - I'd rather have a flake too

Bramshott · 03/07/2008 09:46

Lovely hair POTC! Very sorry to hear about your Nan.

SOL - glad to hear that K is on the up.

NL - pants to crappy work. Hope you can find something else soon.

WO - your new job sounds great! When do you start?

All okay here - work busy, in London for rehearsals yesterday. DH mad busy and stressed with work and feel a bit worried that he will burn out! He's away on a stag night this weekend though, which will be good for him, but probably make him even tireder!

I am stuck in a rut with food for the kids! Anyone got any advice? I am cooking them the same now, which is good, but N is quite picky, and because O eats with her fingers, stuff that can be chopped small is best. So pretty much every week they have:

  1. Pasta with pesto (they would eat this every day if they could, but are funny about tomato-based pasta sauces)
  2. Sausage and chips or boiled potatoes
  3. Pizza and salad
  4. Fishfingers and chips or boiled potatoes
  5. Something else I have to wrack my brains for - maybe meatballs, but O wont' eat them, or salmon, but N won't eat that.

Ho hum. DH comes in late so we eat later on. Weekends are quite easy because DH is a better cook than me and they'll both eat stuff if we're all eating together.

Inspiration anyone? What are your top kids meals?

elkiedee · 03/07/2008 10:07

Happy belated birthday Dooby, sorry, didn't get online last night.

Very chic haircut POTC.

Bramshott, I'm not much of a cook myself but wondered about the following (I don't know if there's any allergy issue or other problem). We also tend to have a handful of staples but they're different.

Chicken - we normally just roast a small one but you could get pieces or fillets if you preferred, and I've seen recipes I'd like to try for making our own chicken tenders/ chicken nuggets without the rubbish in fast food and supermarket ones.

White fish in breadcrumbs (v similar to fish fingers but slight variation)

bread or toast and cheese - or sandwiches

omelet - D's had eggs for a while but someone else mentioned omelet as it's better for finger food than scrambled egg

We tend to do loads of peas and sweetcorn with fish and chicken as D loves them (especially the peas - I was surprised).

I realised the other day that Turkish bread makes an excellent way for giving babies stuff that's not finger food, but I've also seen suggestions of using pitta bread the same way eg with hummus and presumably baby friendly dips

mini sandwiches

CaptainDippy · 03/07/2008 10:31

Gosh Bramshott - your menu sound exactly the same as mine - so no advice here; but welcoming suggestions also - Elkie liking some of your ideas P eats anything (with fingers, although she spoon-fed herself a yogurt last night ); but older 2 are super duper fussy So is DH

LOVING the haircut POTC - really suits you - looking good laydeeee!!

Happy Birthday for yesterday Dooby - did you do anything special!!?

Bramshott · 03/07/2008 10:55

Dipppy - lovely to "see" you on Facebook, sorry, my Facebook chat just crashed on me for some reason. It must know I'm supposed to be working!!

Elkie - thanks for ideas. I am not good with eggs so I always forget about them, but omlette is a good idea - I could do them a spanish omlette with potato couldn't I? The problem is that N is so picky, it's a disincentive to try new things because I know she'll turn her nose up! Still, we are in such a rut (Dippy - glad to know it isn't just me ) that I think I should make them something new once a week.

CaptainDippy · 03/07/2008 11:14

That;s ok Bramshott - DO SOME WORK

Same goes for me, idle procrastinator that I am

My older 2 won't eat potato in ANY form - even chips!!

happy birthday for yesterday Dooby

Loving the hair POTC - i wanted something similar to that but wasn't brave enough

Dancer obviously agrees with you lot, as nothing has happened yet!......

Why can't she be more like her owner? sex before chocolate any day!

My lot eat just about anything......

Kebabs are a fave atm....I put the littlies ones on lolly sticks, so there are no sharp points.Just push a knife through first.

Jamie Olivers Sainsbury's meals for a fiver cheese and bacon pasta goes down well

oooggs · 03/07/2008 13:03

mine eat anything except James doesn't like mushrooms, Erin doesn't like pineapple or strawberries and Jack.............. no comment

they all feed themselves everything whether it be fingers or cutlery

jacket pot beans & cheese
spag bol
chilli & rice (messy but we are having it today)
roast chicken
fajhitas (can't spell) Jack loves these
nachos
pizza
fishfingers, chips & salad
chicken pasta
chicken curry - Korma
sausage casserole & mash
sausage beans & mash

I could go on............ they love picnic food for tea after a day at nursery, mini savoury eggs, sandwiches, cocktail sausages etc....

baby asleep on my knee.........happy days!!

Bramshott · 03/07/2008 15:12

Thanks for the recipie ideas guys! N used to be an eat-everything type, but she's got really picky recently, and I don't have a very thick skin for 'yuk I don't like that' so we have found ourselves in this always having the same state.

I am going to try something new tonight - undecided currently between a spanish omlette and the cheese and bacon pasta thing. I have no chicken in the house today, but I will definitely try your recipe another time Luce.

mammyjo · 03/07/2008 15:17

Sounds good GM!

POTC, so sorry to hear about your nan . Strictly no hugs though Very good hair!

Bramshott, I try to vary what the children eat but it is difficult isn't it! Mine love meatballs + pasta, homemade pizza, cooked dinners (mainly chicken), lasasgne, bolognese, chilli, homemade chicken nuggets (like luce's recipe, but I use parmesan in the crumb coating), cottage pie. Can't think of more off the top of my head, but they eat most things. F loves all fruit and veg, more of a struggle with ds unfortunately!!
I made some banana and choc chip muffins yesterday which went down very well, only two left today!

SOL, hope K is better today

CD, how are you feeling?

Haven't been around much lately, but feeling much much better in myself. Still a bit sore but improving every day. And I can eat cheese!! My zero fat diet is over, yippee!!!!

elkiedee · 03/07/2008 15:19

I'm pleased to hear you're feeling so much better mj.

geordieminx · 03/07/2008 15:19

I have to say that I'm really bad with C's meals as with only having him home-made stuff seems like a real waste of effort as 9 times out of 10 he wont eat it.

Fish fingers potato smiley faces
Sausage mash peas and gravy
Pasta with homemade tomato sauce
Boli in the bag fish and mash
Meatballs (bought)
Little mini cheese burgers (bought)
Tinned spaghetti on toast

TBH honest I have gone back to giving him baby food 7+ month jars usually once a day as he actually seems to enjoy them I think he is just to lazy to chew

He also likes picnic teas... cheese, crackers, baby crisps, yoghurt, fruit.

He doesnt seem to like eggs very much - although I havent tried him for a while - it seemed to be the texture that he didnt like?

geordieminx · 03/07/2008 15:21

x-posts MJ - Great that you are starting to feel better.

I accidently bought C pull ups instead of nappies the other day... he thinks they are great though as he can pull his tail out of the top

He has aso started fishing in the toilet bowl

CaptainDippy · 03/07/2008 15:35

Yum to all these recipes - thank you!

Yuk to toilet bowl fishing though - P also has an unhealthy obssession with the toilet bowl - barf!!

Oh, and I went to the Dr and he listened to my chest and said there was no wheeze or anything so it is probably just a virus and to come back next week if I am still coughing
