Hi - anyone fancy making up a thread for babies born this month? My dd (child no 4 ) was born on 6th Jan - I have had a rough time so far with feeding (cracked nipples etc) but things have started to improve now (I think). if only I could get her to sleep at night....

DD started took her first step last Saturday. I was so pleased, but DH wasn't as he wasn't there to see it! Neither of my tots have had their MMR yet, despite me making several appointments. Each time one or the other has been ill, which tbh, I was secretly relieved about. I'm still really unsure about the whole MMR thing and DH does nothing to improve this situation - he is dead against it. He has heard lots of horror stories from work colleauges and BIL's family. We are just about to move house (so yet another excuse to put it off!), but not sure when. As I've left it sooo late with DS1 I'm worried about his reaction to the injection itself. I can't imagine him sitting still while someone is sticking a needle in him at 2.5! I do need lots of reassurance that I'm doing the right thing.

suss · 26/02/2006 20:24

tiny you are doing the right thing I got measles when I was 12 really badly (badly enough for me to remember it very clearly, i am now 36!) and I am quite short sighted as a result. I worry too about DB esp as he is a boy and more likely to be autistic but the thought of him having measles like I did is worrying as well. So i am going to bite the bullet, when I get an appointment! I don't know why they don't have boy's MMR and Girl's MMR (Mumps and Measles for boys and Measles and Rubella for girls).DB has started staggering around a bit, but has been ill on and off for three weeks which seems to holding him back a bit.

LynnC · 01/03/2006 10:03

Hi everyone, hope all are well. I got notice for MMR for dd on 8th March. I feel sick with worry but know its for the best although she has been unwell for over a month now with colds etc that not sure if they will go ahead until she is all clear. Katylou25 & Dizzymama hope all went well with your lo MMR jabs, how are they now? Any bad reactions?

katylou25 · 02/03/2006 09:53

Hi Lynn

DS was absolutely fine having his MMR - was tired and grumpy in the afternoon on the day he had it - but so would I have been if anyone jabbed a needle in my leg!! - and then absolutely fine - nothing nasty at all. Am really glad hes had it as my friend didn't give her little one it and he had measles and was really reeally poorly with it and won;t know if there's any long term damage till hes older.

katylou25 · 02/03/2006 09:55

Oh forgot to say DS had cold at the time and they still gave it to him - was checked by DR beforehand and they said unless they've actually got something like bronchitis or a really high tempreture there's no extra danger/ or symptoms from MMR

Dizzymama · 02/03/2006 11:11

Hi Lyn, E has been grumpy and had a slight temperature but nothing more major :) I agree, I was worried about giving her the jab but knew it was for the best. Gave her calprofen before hand and after the initial wailing she was ok. Hope that makes you feel a little easier.

LynnC · 08/03/2006 11:02

Thanks Dizzymama & Katylou25 it is reassuring to know all is well. DD was due to get her MMR today but I have cancelled as she seems to be getting the flu bug again thats twice in past month! She is really not herself and unwell and dont feel right to give her a jab right now. Booked into doctors on Friday again so not sure when next app will be.

Dizzymama · 27/03/2006 19:39

Hi everyone, how are the little ones getting along? E is now toddling along merrily and developing a great personality (for this read 'throwing mini tantrums constantly!') We've had the round of bugs - very nasty - and now she appears to have blister like spots, anyone had this with theirs? I'm not sure if it is chicken pox, measles or just blisters. She has them on hr hands but also little ones on her face.

suss · 27/03/2006 21:16

sounds nasty dm. I don't know about blisters but DB has had a rash after a virus which I (pathetically worried mother) thought was the measles, but blisters, could it be chickenpox - there is a lot of it about. DB practically running, even though he has only been walking properly for a couple of weeks. We can hardly keep him in the pushchair and he wants to walk everywhere! No MMR yet waiting for current cold to go. Hope everyone else is well. Does anyone else have a child who eats for Britain?

katylou25 · 27/03/2006 22:15

Hi DM Blisters could be hand, foot and mouth if they only on face and hands - if it is think you need antibiotics to clear it - is she well in herself?

suss · 28/03/2006 20:55

What was it DM or didn't you find out!

Dizzymama · 29/03/2006 13:01

Sorry ladies, been running around like a mad woman! Took her to see the nurse yesterday as a huge blister on her finger popped and looked like it had become infected! She said it wasn't chicken pox, woke up this morning and she had more blisters so took her to see the doctor. She's treating her for impertigo - poor little thing, they look so sore Sad Now I teach, so I know I should know this but...is she the only one in quarrentine? I have contact with hundreds of kids, I couldn't infect them could I?

suss · 29/03/2006 14:13

It depends if it is spread through the air. If it is by touch alone then it will be really hard to spread it try looking on the NHS direct website. Poor little thing hope she gets better soon. xxx

Dizzymama · 29/03/2006 14:35

Thanks for the link suss, it doesn't mention anything about keeping anyone other than the child off so I think my class should be ok! It's spread through skin to skin contact, especially if there are cuts. However, reading what the site said, what E has doesn't sound that much like impetigo at all, there is no 'crustiness' (sorry for the TMI moment there!!) around the burst blister, infact she has what looks like a blood blister in it's place now. Ho hum, will just have to hope antibiotics clear it up whatever it may be!!

suss · 29/03/2006 20:14

it couldn't be a meental heat rash could it, I get tiny little blisters on hands and feet sometimes when they get v hot and probably a bit sweaty (sorry probably too much information!) they are quite itchy I think its a bit like chilblains.

Dizzymama · 29/03/2006 20:24

I suppose it could be but blisters are on her hands, legs, shoulders and head, not just hands and feet - would that matter? Giving her the antibiotics is a laugh! Social services would have carted me off if they'd looked through our lounge window this afternoon Blush The only way I can get her to swallow them is if I lie her down, 'sit' on her whilst pinning her arms to her sides with my knees and holding her head still with one hand - poor, poor child!

suss · 30/03/2006 09:48

DM No it doesn't sound like a heat rash - God they didn't give you tablets did they? If they did they are nuts and I would go back and get a liquid, otherwise I would use a syringe. Poor you, poor her! Does your local hospital have a good pediatrics dept? If it goes on I suggest a quick visit to A&E sounds drastic but you might actually find someone who knows about childhood illnesses.

Dizzymama · 30/03/2006 21:38

Nope, it is the liquid suss, but it smells and I presume also tastes, foul. They also make these things vivid colours that stain very badly! Was thinking about heading down to casualty if things didn't improve but blisters seem to be dying down thank goodness!

suss · 31/03/2006 14:13

Pleased to hear that your Lo is getting better - you probably never know what it was!

bunyanvillas · 31/03/2006 16:43

Hello, may I join this club? My daughter was born on Jan 14th 2005. I've been back at work (3 days a week ) for a month and dd is at nursery during this time. It all seems to be ok - much better than I thought! Anyone else in a similar situation? Anyone trying for another baby yet? I'm feeling a bit broody, oh dear!!! Mind you the thought of 2 under the age of 2 is rather alarming!

Dizzymama · 31/03/2006 22:14

Welcome! My Dd was born on 20th January and I've been back at work for two days a week since september. I'm having to go back four days from this coming september :( You'll find this thread really helpful and supportive. Look forward to crossing posts with you!

suss · 05/04/2006 14:07

hi bvillas! I am still at home, not planning to go back to work, can't bear to miss a thing and yes I am v broody! DS born 20th Jan is An IVF baby and we are going gto have another attempt in May! DM How is your DD I hope the blisters have gone!

Dizzymama · 05/04/2006 19:54

Hi there suss, blisters are no more [smile. I too am becoming increasingly broody but feel a little trapped due to work and the situation I'm in (all very complex and boring!)Think we'll start trying for number two in another year.....seems so far away though! I'm finding E a 'not so little' bundle of joy at the moment. I love this age, although she's testing boundaries big time, it's very exciting. Very much beginning to wish I hadn't said yes to going back to work 4 days from September. Sad

suss · 09/04/2006 20:19

Sorry DM - about going back to work for 4 days a week but its not for a while. We all have moments when our bundles aren't exactly joyful, but we wouldn't be normal if they always were would we!

LynnC · 13/04/2006 09:58

welcome buny! I work four days a week and wish it was less but needs must I suppose need to be grateful job was able to accommodate me to shorten working week. Still would jump at chance to give it up completely if I could.

How is everyones LO? DD got MMR last week and has been fantastic, dont know what I was expecting but thankfully no real side effects yet, although was warned it could take 7-10 days for a reaction. I was also told they no longer carry out development check-ups at 18 months so unless I wanted to attend clinic off my own back they would not need to see us again - is this the same for everyone?
