Low folate and iron deficiency

5 months PP and after losing an extreme amount of hair even for post partum I have been found to have the above. My red cells are good but my iron stores are low, folate low too.

My question is really to gage how normal this is for PP? I had low iron and iron stores with my first but the folate is a new one! This is now my 4th baby. I wasn't the best at taking my prenatal vitamins and tbf my diet was terrible as I was so sick but I feel like I've been eating well since birth (no vitamins still though..) Anyone else had similar? GP said not to be concerned but my head naturally goes to "why?"

Your baby needed the vitamins so they took them from you! I would look into temporary vitamins/supplements for this period of time and things like consuming vitamin c rich foods alongside iron rich foods and it helps with the absorption of iron. From myself I know it took a good year + to build my iron back up to normal levels post birth and breastfeeding!

Oh and sorry but for your question I think it’s quite normal 😭 myself and a lot
of my friends had some low levels and so so much hair loss 😱 but it comes back ☺️

Thank you @KoalaPineapple ❤️

I know hair loss is normal but I am losing handfuls every hour when I run my fingers through it, and the shower it's coming out itself in massive balls. I have long, long hair so it looks like a crazy amount. I had hair loss with all my babies but my first and this one has been the worse (this one being the winner!)

Thinking on it I feel so whoozy and shattered most days but it's so easy to brush that off to having a new baby and other kids to run after. It's strange as I am OK but I just feel like I need a break to rest if that makes sense.

I think woozy and shattered does mean you should probably consider some supplements /vitamins and some me-time (if possible!) take care x

GP has prescribed iron and a folic acid supplement 👌🏻 I am hoping they kick in quick but I'm not looking forward to the iron side effects.
