Little Al has a cold, so managed about an hours sleep. It's that cotton wool head of the 1st few days.......What a magical time!

LM do they do the freya bras in H and above ?!?

mumofk · 18/06/2008 12:24

hugs nicknack- we've had colds/coughs galore here so can really sympathise.

Pina- wow at superpost! Makes me feel a bit better but i still can't keep track....

Podlget- Yippeee, so glad the appointment went ok!

Magicfairy, hope last night went ok for you, and LM's advice sounds good to me (also not wanting to make anything harder or worse for you!).

Indigo- really hope today is better for you- its tough, isn't it. Sympathies. Its got to get better soon. I hope...

Mitchell- wow at keeping tidy and selling your house! Good luck with Oz, fingers crossed at sponsorship/visa situation.

Welcome to all new to the list! Off to read birth announcements when I'm done here. Hugs all.'its such a magical time'!(snorts with manic laughter as mumofk staggers off!)

YCBS- PMSL sleep deprivation as torture! Special time, hmmph. I love my daughters, but I love passing them on to anyone who wants a cuddle (who I know and trust, obviously!). With my pals I hand Jasmine over, and go off to do the jobs that are bugging me most. Last week it was cleaning the bathroom!

Asics- Jas sleeps in a vest/babygro but she's in our bed under our bedclothes, always toasty warm snuggled up to me (I've read lots of supportive literature about bedsharing safely).I loved sleeping bags last time but then K wasn't in our bed. I'm sure I'm lining up for a battle when she's bigger, but right now its soooo easy and I'm loving getting a lot of sleep, 10pm- 3 am,then 7 am sometimes(sorry, but now I've said that I'm going to have a crap night tonight!).

Sweetbean- wizard sleeves???don't know what you mean ( showing my ignorance to mumsnet sayings) Glad Freya's going ok but hope the jealousy settles soon- sounds tough.

LM - hope your dp on nights has been ok. at your friends birth! OMG! wow!please post link to that seller, I'm interested!

Though can't buy anything yet- 3 new slngs arrived since yesterday!!!!! Sorry, but I'm soooo happy with my new pouch slings. they're hotslings, and are fabulous. Not just comfy, but nice to look at too- seriously! I'm not a fashion follower, but last year I got sick of having nothing to wear, nothing went with anything and nothing fit very well. I paid a professional shopper to help me get a new wardrobe, and I now know what colours suit me.All I do is buy things that fit my colour palette, and then I just grab something and all my clothes match. Well, now I'm getting slings that way too ( I even emailed my advisor pictures of one expensive one- if I'm wearing it for the next couple of years I want it to tie in with my clothes!).
Anyway, hotslings are in all different patterns and I think they're easier to use than my ring sling, once you buy the right size. And I really rate my ring sling!!
Right lsing rant over, thanks for putting up with me!!!

Congrats GingerWench! Read your birth story on birth announcements. I would be up for meeting up some time when you are out and about. I am in Leith, but am happy to bus it up to Southside to say hi.

PC82 you are so good at namechecking everyone. My brain doesn't work well enough for that.

JentlyDoesIt/Podglet hurrah for DD's clear corneas

LM74 - I would be interested in the link to that seller. I have seen a mum with a fabulous polka dot feeding bra that I am currently coveting. and about your friend giving birth on the toilet. my second stage was 2 hours so i can't imagine a speedy one!

Ampster - congrats!

This week has been going well, I have been enjoying my out and about stuff. We went ot baby yoga this morning and it was lovely to do some exercise. I am thinking of starting ot run again very very gently, but am going to wait until after my check up next week. I have that seperated tummy muscles thing, but dont' think it should affect it.

i have started expressign with the view to DH being able to give her a bottle when I want a bit of time away. however, I am only getting 2oz every time - is that normal? I am hoping it gets better.

WW xx

YCBS - i havwe seen wilkinets go on ebay quite cheaply. I have one and love it!

magicfairy · 18/06/2008 15:51

LM74 thanks, i didmt take it patronisingly dont worry. He definatley is a sucky baby, i am waiting for him to find his thumb, as ds1 has a dummy and we have been cursing it in the middle of the night for too long now, but ds2 is getting closer to a dummy! DS1's feeding patterns were similar, and even he would show signs of being hungry after a very short time, the thing is neither of them will refuse a feed. They may come off one side by thenselves and then when offered the other they happily take it and never let go!! Actually writing that makes me think sod it he's ahving a dummy! I have had him in the sling for 1.5 hours now and he's still asleep, so mayne he just freaks in his basket after a while.

the bottle last night went dwon in no time, dh did it, but then ds2 puked and it took ages to burp him then get him to sleep. i sepnt the whole time thinking i could have just fed him myself and he would have gone to sleep feeding! he did sleep for longer though, finally went to bed at 11pm, then woke and came into our bed at 12.30pm, didnt feed just went back to sleep on my chest, thren woke at 2 and 4 and 6 for feeds. When i woke for the 2am feed i was soooo full and wet, good job that mattress protector is there!
Will continue with it though, see how it goes, may just stick at the one bottle.

pina - ds1 had bad colic and we got him one of those battrey powered swings, put him in it with loud classical music, and let him rock off to sleep every evening for about 6 weeks! it was heaven although we got bloody sick of that cd, but we would do anything to get him to stop crying!

LM74 10-4!!!!

right gotta go, ds1 on sofa glued to cbeebies very poorly, and ds2 just woke and out from sling very cross with a huge green boogy, oh no not that dreaed lurgy that wont leave our house!

magicfairy · 18/06/2008 15:52

oh no, ds1 fallen asleep, bugger in for a hell of a night now!

YCBS - they are easy to put on - the video on the site helped us. It is a bit of a faff when you are taking the baby out of the car and putting them in as you need a surface - but i just use the passenger seat. My sister use to put her baby in the car seat half in the wilkinet, which would work better as you could just scope them out and put them on. It is good for a teeny one as very supportive.

ycbs- go for the wilkinet! What's the worst thing that'll happen? You don't like it, return it or ebay it and move onto something else! Hmmm, must take my own advice and just buy one at a time.....
And PMSL at your DH.....I can't remember the last time I was in a bar in the evening. Arrggh, that's a bit scary actually. Anyone seen a memory (not a Mammary!) lying around somewhere? I seem to have put it down and forgotten about it....
Hmmm, where's the baby? (only joking, she's asleep upstairs but she's a bit quiet so going to check. OMG she's been there over an hour and I'm STILL on the computer).
Mumofkandj- spot the name change at last!- dashes off to make it look like she's done some 'housework' now coz I'm off out all day and do like the mess to be re-arranged before DH gets home!
hmmm. think I've got a sense of humour today. PLease ignore any random ramblings that don't make sense. Oh, all of this then!

magicfairy · 19/06/2008 12:18

wow, ds2 been asleep for over 2 hours in the sling, its a record, espesially as ive not been moving for the last hour! Im sure he will wake up when ds1 does, that usual feed me now session from both of them at the same time! oh well not complaining at the mo, managed to have a hot cup of tea!!! and even done my mumusnet profile page!
Ds2 just poking his head out of the sling, sqwaked and has gone back to sleep again!

off to put my feet up and read my book!!

ha ha ds2 woken now! hungry!

JentlyDoesIt · 19/06/2008 15:21

Hi all,

Flying by before the babies wake! Hope everybody is ok.

MF - hurrah for the big sleep in the sling. How is the winding going?

Pina - how organised to do a write up in word firt! How are you?

Otter - hoping Hazel is home now.

LM74 - have a fab night out

YCBS & WW - I have a Wilkinet and I love it! I had 2 for DS but sold one. He loved it forward facing when he was about 4 / 5 months too. I use it now for DD although we both find it a little warm on hot days.

Have put some new pics on my profile if anyone wants a peek... Cannot believe DD is 2 months already - where do the weeks go???

pregnabrain · 19/06/2008 22:05

hi all

hope you're well.

just popping in to say hello. i haven't been up to it before now as have been hit by really horrible PND / anxiety / insomnia. i've been a mess since dd2's birth and just haven't felt like communicating with anyone.

i haven't had a chance to catch up on the thread but i hope all's well with you all and that i'll have the energy to join in soon.

lots of love to you all.

baiyu · 20/06/2008 00:06

He sleeps in my arms and is awake as soon as I put him down, arg! Still, we're starting to get some smiles and the nights are improving so i'm not too upset by it. Also DP is back on Tuesday! I'm going to have a sleep, and a bath and ...ooh I'm so excited! Oh yes, and get to see my DP too, hehe.

Another, rather amazing thing that just happened is I've this evening found us somewhere to live until the lease on the new flat starts! It's a bit too perfect for words, a friends lovely big flat is sitting empty for the exact period we want somewhere and he's renting it to us at cost, ie. very little. The 7 weeks in his flat will cost us about half what the new one will every month (and that's still a small student flat!) So we'll be able to move back to Edinburgh from the beginning if July so now only a few more weeks of Highland life then I'm back to the city, hooray! haven't even had a chance to tell DP yet, very happy, bit too good to be true actually!

So gingerwenchand walkingwomb a meet up in Edinburgh would be fab!

Thanks asicsgirl, LM74, pina and niknak21 for the advice about bleeding. It did calm down and has yet to make an appearance today, please let it be finished, it's been nearly 6 weeks!

Thanks also "LM74* for saying such nice supportive things, made me feel lots better.

podglet glad all went well at the hospital, you must be very relieved

magicfairy I think we have the same routine, or lack of, at the moment - a constantly feeding baby! There's your answer YCBS! He's on about every 2 hours for about 20 - 30 minutes each side, sometimes less, sometimes more. He does stop feeding and then just suck so I often have to break the suction and take him off when it's clear that there is no more to be had! planning to start trying to express at the weekend, he'll be 6 weeks on Sunday.

asics DS sleeps in a vest, a sleepsuit and a grobag and sometimes a blanket too. Oh dear, that sounds like loads but my room is pretty cold. I'm wearing long pjs and a really thick duvet and sometimes still a bit cold so don't want him to be. He doesn't ever seem to be hot. I love the grobags (well, unofficial 'grobags' real ones far too pricey unless from ebay IMO) as he can stay in that if he comes into my bed which he does rather a lot (but not under my duvet). Need to try and stop that when DP is back, no room for 3!

LM74 thanks for the links to nice bras, i will try to e-mail her cos with the P&P at new price it's only a pound under RRP. Hmm. I would love a pretty bra though! OMG at friend giving birth in the loo, I didn't think that was possible, thought it was just a bit of an urban legend! Bit jealous - it's the memory of the last long pushing bit that makes me doubt I could do it all again!

pina So glad you like DP's photos. He's not professional but is trying to be. Let me know if you'd like to see more, there are many very lovely albums and I'll get him to friend you. There's some here too. When I got birth announcement/thank you cards printed (still not written them damnit!) the printers said it must be useful having a prof. photographer in the family, I just agreed! (I've just put that picture on my MN profile, I think it's a lovely one) Oh dear, yes I am his biggest fan! I will ask a friend to do that next time I get the chance, they can always say no!

mumofkandj I've also used bigmamaslings and they were so brilliant I nearly wrote a letter to tell them how good they were (then remembered i don't even have time to wash so not really that important!) Haha i read your last post as 'snorts with magic laughter' and i thought that was brilliant!

gingerwench and ampster Congratulations! Will read birth announcements when I get a moment.

pregnabrain* so sorry you're feeling so low, have you got someone for some support? big hugs. x

Sorry for huge post....
Hope you all have a good night!

Just waiting for MIL to arrive for lunch .....time for a quick MN!!

Well I don't know what's more embarassing, pina typing into a word doc and copying and pasting or me....I do actually make notes (I thought everyone did??!! . How on earth do people remember everything otherwise?? Right, here goes...

sweetbean glad to hear you are back in the saddle . We managed 'it' 3 weeks after DD2 was born, which I was quite proud of . Also, v bizarre, there were definitely a bit of 'wizard sleeve' issues after DD1 (I was mortified) but I can proudly say that since DD2 born, I have done lots of pelvic floor exercies and the wizard sleeves are no more....Huzzah!!!

walkingwomb Please take it easy running if you have a split rectus (tummy muscle). I have the same, and also, work as a physio so know how important it is to have strong tummy muscle to avoid back/pelvis problems when running. Are you seeing a physio? Are you doing any exercises for your tummy muscle??
That reminds me actually, on my mat notes the MW at hospital wrote 'split rectal sheath' meaning the rectus abdominus muscle. I went for my 6 week check and the nurse said " so you've got some problems with your bottom have you?" and I said "erm, no...." and she was quite insistent that I had split my rectum....(ouch!). I had to advise her it was my tummy muscle...he he he!!

magicfairy Hope the feeding is going better. How are the nips? It sounds as if you have a very good supply, so I wonder if your DS is just a very hungry baby and it might be worth you BF him but giving him formula to top him up??

pregnabrain Sorry to hear you are feeling so low . PLease come on here and talk to us about it when you can, we can all support you. I'm sure however you feel, there will be at least a few of us who can relate to it, if not all of us.

Baiyu You are sounding much brighter!! Good for you. Great news about the flat and your DP's imminent arrival back in the UK. Are you going to meet him at the airport??
You are v lucky having your DP take such lovely photos. My Dad is a photographer (he owns 400 cameras!!!) and he takes beautiful photos of my girls, we are very lucky. My mates have spent literally £1000's at places like venture, and we have it all for free!!!

Well I went to mass this morning, instead of Sunday. I decided to feed DD2 in church as she was due a feed and I was sitting right at the back in the corner behind a post so no-one would have seen anything. What I forgot was, how noisy she is when she feeds !!! Blimey, it was like a pig at the trough! Then she did a massive burp, then did her 'poo face' which basically is akin to a woman in labour (it's just yellow water coming out FFS!!!!!!!)
It made me chuckle anyway!

Hope not to cause too much here now, but DD2 fed at 7pm, then I woke her at 10:30pm and she had a very brief 'I'm not really hungry now mummy' few mins on one side, then didn't wake up til........5:45am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yipeeee! Let's hope it lasts. Sorry, probably not people like magicfairy wanna hear, but I had to share my joy...

Right, better go. MIL will be here soon .
